KILINOCHCHI HAS FALLEN

Update @ 1 5.00hrs

LTTE launched a counter attack on the 571 now in control of Kilinochchi Train Station, which is now being beaten back. The town of Kilinochchi is being cleared house to house. Another counter attack was launched against the 59 in the morning near oddusudan, which was also repulsed.

DEFENCEWIRE BREAKING NEWS- The LTTE capital Kilinochchi is now being vacated as troops from the 57 converge on it from all sides. The Town is expected to fall completely into the hands of the Army shortly and it will be declared captured after clearing by tomorrow.

Meanwhile 35 Ratha Regiment elite Tigers were killed when they clashed with a Brigade from the 59 Division near the town of Oddusudan yesterday. 15 bodies of the elite cadres were recovered.

This Brigade from the 59 has bypassed Oddusudan and is heading towards two LTTE airstrips situated South East and North West of Puthukudiirippu. Out of a total of six airstrips detected by the military, 3 are within our grasp, including the one at Iranamadu.

Victorious troops of Task Force 1 on aggressive advances towards the heart of Kilinochchi have reported another victory against LTTE terrorists by gaining control over the Karadipokku junction located between Paranthan and Kilinochchi along the A-9 main road by last evening, 01 January.

The Karadipokku junction is the northern edge of the Kilinochchi garrison and troops continued their advance from Paranthan to Kilinochchi captured this strategically vital place giving early signs of fall of Kilinochchi.

  15. In another thread, one bankrupt Sinhala Journalist/Activist says that once Giranike is captured, LTTE become a Guerilla force again and spread all over the Island.

We should take it serious. There should be lot of spies among tamils. Every Tamil house should be mapped, names of the every family member in that house should in a database. They all should have specific identity cards.

By, that way any movements can be identified. I think, those are already in place.

That will for the tamils and for the country. Every new house built should go into that map and more.

    [TamilNet, Friday, 02 January 2009, 00:32 GMT]

The hospital located at Tharmapuram, the new administrative centre of Vanni, struggles to cope with a high number of patients as Sri Lankan air strikes and artillery barrage on Wednesday and Thursday killed 10 and caused injuries to more than 50 civilians. The hospital, originally a village level hospital, has to cope with the inpatients of Ki'linochchi hospital, with its short space and lack of medical equipment, was forced to dispatch its vehicles on Thursday seeking blood donors to come forward to donate blood as all blood types in Illinois were at critical level.

No more will we witness Norwegian politicians having tea with bloodbath promising Thamilchelvans in the "capital" of the "de facto state". So, where is that LTTE whore-motherfucker named ”peter” (if I recall right) who was always asking “how long to Sakkilinocchi” here uh?

Hey "peter" the pee-drinker…I was told even in the immediate outskirts of Sakkilinocchi there are a few “maaveerar” graves and I earnestly asked my source to ensure that our bravehearts take a yet another piss on those very graves when they pass through…just to tell ourselves show how much we must respect these LTTE terra-motherfcukers!

  68. AFP: Sri Lankan officials: Troops enter rebel capital

By KRISHAN FRANCIS – 1 hour ago

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — Sri Lanka's military officials say that their soldiers have entered the Tamil Tiger rebels' de facto capital in the north for the first time in a decade.

Senior military officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, say troops have entered the town of Kilinochchi from two sides.

The level of fighting inside the town Friday was still unclear. The military had predicted on Thursday that they would control the town within two days.

The fall of Kilinochchi would be devastating to the separatist group, which has been forced out of much of its territory in the north of the Indian Ocean island nation amid a renewed government offensive in recent months. President Mahinda Rajapaksa has promised to crush the rebel group and end the nation's 25-year-old civil war this year.

Looks like Vezapillai's daydream turned into reality in just a matter of weeks. Ado Veza, feel like making a comment about Mullaitivu as well?

Also, a good strategic decision to go after the airstrips. Hopefully, this will put an end to the threat from Zlins. We should however be vigilent about the possibility of an airborne suicide attack.

In any case, the fall of Kili would free up the 57 and the 58 to clear up the areas around A35 and trap the monkeys in Muhamalai.

However, this is hardly likely now...our bravehearts have captured much of the Vanni theatre (where these planes used to take off from) and they are now spread all over Vanni like how fleas infect a dog I am told...so although their remains a remote possibility, I say it is highly unlikely that a fcuking Takaran Plane can take off without "far in advance" warning going to SLAF (who in turn I am told are waiting eagerly!)...

well said. couldn't agree more. if ranil's transparently gutless but not so transparent state asset auctioneers were running the show the sinhala & muslims would have been vacating the trinco & ampara districts today for sure.

the capture of killi, paranthan etc. & defeat of LTTE would have been an impossible dream for sinhala nation. that was projected by ranil personally at every given opportunity during ceasefire.

"our army cannot defeat the LTTE"

the above was what the shameless fukcer said at very public forum internationally as well as locally. everytime I saw this gutless & shameless speech on TV i used to cringe & hang my head in shame cos i knew it wasn't true.

equal status has to be earned & cannot be given to any individual or community, specially terrorists.

for example if barak obama wore a goatee beard, practised islam & criticized the whites & america at every given opportunity where would he be today?

before he became presidential candidate he won the confidence of the majority whites before the minorities. this is the key. lakshman kadiragamar springs to mind.

this is the best example that can be given to tamils who constantly cry "discrimination".

  126. Great news!! Well done SLDF. What a start to the New Year.

I have to say, I wasn't expecting it so soon after Paranthan, but looks like the SLA is in overdrive.

Rather than Killinochchi alone I would have preferred if they they attempted to block off EPS, but looks like the terrorists have already started to flee from there as well.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Now from DefenceNet

Kilinochchi surrounded, Female Black Tiger HQ Falls

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) political capital is about to fall to advancing forces of the Sri Lankan Army. Several Special Infantry (SI) formations of SLA have already moved into the town and secured several parts of it including the railway station. Majority of LTTE resistance in the area has either been crushed by the army or has been forced to retreat. Official announcement of the fall of tiger stronghold is expected anytime now.

Meanwhile even the LTTE’s primary weapon, the black tigers (aka suicide bombers), were not able to stop the army onslaught in this instance. LTTE’s Female black tiger command (9-3 base) located in Karadiyapokku (located on the northern boundaries of Kilinochchi town) was overrun by 58 division units several hours ago. A senior black tiger leader was among those killed in the battle.

    ReplyDelete
  129. We still could block off a significant no. from EPS escaping.
The 58 might be the best suited for that.

Black tiger HQ is said to be south east of EPS. SLAF should target them now. Those retreating from North are likely to move in that direction.

  132. LTTE launched a counter attack on the 571 now in control of Trincomalee Train Station ...

    -DW

Guys, look at the DW update. DW is also in panic mood.

    ReplyDelete
  133. ok...so lets take a moment to think what the negative consequences of this good news maybe.......

In paranthan and kili, I m sure there were many tigers held up in bunkers and trenches in a defensive role...how many? 100, 200, 500, or maybe more than 1000 (your guess is good as mine)...
When in a purely defensive role we knew where they were and we had the opportunity to decide to where and when to attack...

But with both these garrisons now gone, all the carders that were in a defensive role are now utilisable for a offensive role.. in addition if there were any good defensive locations, like vantage points, tall buildings etc etc, that wud have been of use for us, I m sure they must have booby trapped them or completely blown them up.... so while we are trying to find our way in a new terrain full of booby traps trying to set up our defenses they have new troops available for a counter attack and a pride lost to recover...a very dangerous cocktail indeed.....

    What do u guys think??

    ReplyDelete
  134. Thambala,

    ReplyDelete
  136. DW has updated the article. So there was a counter attack.....

Rupavahini news said that kili is surrounded in ALL DIRECTIONS.

SKR reported that he heard the LTTE cadres screaming for help over radio while he visited the 57th operations station. Does that mean the LTTE cadres are trapped and a counter attack was made to rescue the baboons, or was it just a last stage by those trapped inside? Any news?

  138. Katch,

Yes, bro. this our moment of joy, couple of drinks is a must as new year presents (Paranthan and Kili) are flowing in.

Next is EP and hell will break for LTTP when 55 and 53 comes down.

Soon Mulative will also in our bag.

    SL Power,

mate, AGG do not come to the blog during holidays. He may be reading our posts time to time. I think he will start writing from 5th Jan, hopefully.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Thoughtful guy,

Interesting perspective you have. However, our armed forces are expecting a counter attack. So the tigers will not have the element of surprise. However, the familiarity of the terrain will be on their side.
Our mbrls and number of troops could negate that advantage to a certain extent.

  144. thambala.... well for starters,

1)we need to not over extend our selves, if we start chasing them, they can very well lure us to a trap and box us..(like what happened to one of the platoons of the 59th..as reported by DW,Vajira)

    2) we need to have a perimeter defence created by arti/MBRLs/Motars and have some UAVs up there to see any counter attack materialising

    3) we need to make sum diversion attack to some place close by so that the LTTE commanders are torn between the choices of starting the counterattack on kili or sending the newly freed caders from Kili as reinforcements to this new defence line..(the new location shud be close enough to make this "reinforcement" option a realistic one for the regional LTTE commander, but far enough that transporting them and will take enough time that by the time they get there, that diversion attack can be stopped and our troops puuled back to the original locations)

    any more ideas...

  161. President Rajapaksa's New Year Message to the Nation:

Never before has the dawn of a New Year brought welcome expectations of unity and prosperity to our nation as we see today.

We have great confidence that the determined path we have traversed so far will result in a sustainable peace to our country and people. I am aware this will bring great joy to all of you who have watched with great patience as we proceeded in the search for peace with justice and dignity to all.

It is my firm belief that when our nation crosses the threshold to victory it is the responsibility of us all to be united in safeguarding the future of our country. My government that has taken the country on the correct path to development, while facing many challenges, has also taken the necessary steps to bring prosperity to the lives of our people. We have bestowed the honour of the nation on our brave and heroic troops engaged in the task of saving the country from terrorism by declaring 2009 as the "Year of Heroic Victory". On this occasion we invite all, irrespective of political party, colour or affiliation to set aside the divisive feelings of opposition, and act with unity to transform the victories so far achieved to those even greater, and work together for the bigger victories of that await us in the future.

When the nation stands united all conspiracies against the country are defeated. It is our resolve to strengthen the determination and commitment of our people towards making this New Year the truly victorious year of the nation.

I wish you all every success in the New Year.

  167. Bishop of Jaffna, Rt. Rev. Thomas Saundaranayagam, in his New Year message for the year 2009 has wished all a peaceful and prosperous new year.

The Bishop also urged international community to take steps for bringing peace in the island nation.

    WHAT???

“The Holy See Benedict XVI had urged President Mahinda Rajapaksa to stop the war and strive for peace when the president met the Holy Pope at Vatican but the war atrocities have only escalated since then,” Rt. Rev. Thomas Saundaranayagam, Bishop of Jaffna said in his New Year message.

THIS CUNT MUST BE A TERORIST SUPPORTER.

“The appeal made by the Bishops in Sri Lanka to stop the war too remains rejected, “ the message said, adding, “Even appeals made by several countries including India to stop the war had gone unheeded”.

YOU MFS LOOK AFTER YOUR FAITH. LEAVE POLITICS TO ELECTED. THESE MF's funded, harboured and supported LTTE murderes.

The leaders of Sri Lanka and the foreign ambassadors stationed here should take into consideration the injustice committed against the peoples and work hard to find a permanent solution, the Bishop said in his message.

”The government’s war to capture the Vanni has resulted in the loss of lives and thousands of people being displaced in the year 2008. Jaffna peninsula and Vanni kept reverberating in the artillery fire and aerial attacks”.

WELL VANNI PEOPLE ASKED FOR IT.

Moreover, people faced severe economic crisis and natural disasters in Vanni and Jaffna peninsula including a major flood, it added.

WELL ALL PEOPLE FACED THESE PROBLEMS NOT ONLY VANNI.

”One cannot remain unconcerned about human lives when the people have to face a new year amidst great suffering and while the government looks forward to a new year in a state of 'victorious exhilaration”.

    GET LOST

“I pray to God that all people should lead a life without the fear of war, happily and in prosperity, in an atmosphere where human rights are respected, in the year 2009,” the Bishop sought the blessings of God. - Sri Lanka Guardian

WELL WE TOO. AND IT SEEMS YOUR PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED BY GOD. PARANTHAN, KILLI GONE. MULLE AND EP NEXT. LTTE WILL BE PROCRIBED AND HUNTED DOWN TO THE LAST SCUM. PERHAPS FEW BISHOPS WHO HELPED TERROR SHOUD GO TOO.

    -CNN Asia headline

    ReplyDelete
  175. a must read. sorry for repeating and for pasting the whole thing from the island.

    every sentence is prophetic.

'The Future Minds': A barometer of public opinion- The Island
The recently concluded Future Minds exhibition in Jaffna was a huge success. It drew thronging crowds for several days. The youth were ebullient and children frolicking. Enthusiasm that people evinced in that fun filled educational and industrial event bore testimony to the fact that the Taliban culture the LTTE imposed on Jaffna has given way to a democratic way of life. The exhibition had been preceded by a couple of mass protests against the LTTE in Jaffna.

This kind of public response is indicative of the fact that the army has won over the northern populace and the northerners are thirsting for democracy and a better life which they richly deserve. It has also given the lie to the claim that the LTTE still enjoys popular support and people are awaiting its return. Those who support terrorism from a safe distance and expect the LTTE to make a comeback and turn that part of the country into a hellhole are only hoping against hope.

There is a misconception that the LTTE is being targeted only on the military front. Hence it is claimed in some quarters that Sri Lanka is attempting a military solution to the conflict and therefore the LTTE will survive the on-going military onslaught and continue to function as a guerrilla outfit. The argument that the government will have to talk to the LTTE at some point is also based on this illogical reasoning.

It is not only on the military front that the LTTE is being fought. In the Vanni the armed forces are all out to defeat the outfit. They have already exploded many a myth that the separatist lobby had used to lionise the Tigers. The LTTE is about to face the worst ever military defeat in the very heartland of its militancy. Prabhakaran having a Humpty-Dumpty kind fall is only a matter of time.

He lost Paranthan to the army yesterday and now Elephant Pass and Kilinochchi are extremely vulnerable to a military assault which is imminent. His mistake of defending Kilinochchi at the expense of other strategically important areas has enabled the army to reach the outskirts of Mullaitivu with relative ease, and the loss of its main base on the Eastern coast will be unbearable to the LTTE, as it has already lost control of the vital littoral west of the A-9 highway completely.

The army won't stop at Mullativu and move northwards along the coast thus effectively cutting off the LTTE's access to the sea. In such an eventuality, Prabhakaran will find himself fighting on several fronts in a landlocked area. The fiercely fought battle for Kilinochchi won't leave the LTTE with so many cadres for future battles.

The LTTE has also got a severe beating on the political front. It has ceased to be a factor in the Eastern Province politics, though it is making a desperate effort to make its presence felt through hit and run tactics which it cannot sustain over a period of time without having a strong base either in the North or the East. The Vanni offensive will deprive the LTTE of all its remaining bases in the North. If the government sustains its development drive in the East and strengthens the newly formed PC by implementing the 13th Amendment properly, the eastern democracy will fully recover in record time.

The newly liberated areas are being developed fast. Rehabilitation of the A-32 highway will begin shortly and that arterial road will link the North and the South far more effectively than the A-9. Better roads, transport, education facilities, communication and so on will certainly deal a heavy blow to the LTTE, which created conditions similar to those in Pol Pot's Cambodia and made people go through hell by terrorising and exploiting them in every conceivable way.

A generation of Tamils the LTTE kept behind the iron curtain and brought up on a diet of racial hatred so as to maintain a pool of child soldiers and suicide bombers is beginning to enjoy freedom, which the Jaffna youth savoured during the past few days, especially at the musical shows which were part of the Future Minds programme.

Thus, it may be seen that there is much more to the on-going war than the military offensives in the Vanni. None are so blind as those who refuse to see the other prongs of Sri Lanka's anti-terror strategy and criticise her military campaign against terrorism.

What is needed at this juncture is not expending time and energy on some political pie in the sky. Over the past two and a half decades, all experiments with devolution have failed. Not even the Indian model took root due to the LTTE's intransigence. The LTTE has rejected, as the EU Parliament pointed out in its resolution to ban the outfit a few years ago, devolution at the provincial level (Provincial Councils), devolution at the regional level (Regional Councils) and devolution at the national level (federalism). What else remains to be offered to the LTTE? It is only a separate state!

So, those who are pressing for talks with the LTTE are, either wittingly or unwittingly, advocating Sri Lanka's dismemberment. If anyone is confident that the conflict could be resolved through a political solution without eliminating the LTTE, he or she ought to first get an assurance from Prabhakaran--and not from any lesser minion

like Nadesan--that the LTTE is willing to give up Eelam. The public mood in Jaffna as seen in the recent past is proof that the country's war against terrorism is paying dividends and the LTTE is fast losing whatever popular base it may have had in the North.
