Sri Lankan Army Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka and Navy Commander Vice Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda have received service extensions by another year Defence Ministry officials say.
President Mahinda Rajapaksha approved his two Commanders service extensions after Defence Secretary Lt.Col(Retd) Gotabhaya Rajapaksha made his recommendations.
Army commander who narrowly escaped from a deadly suicide bomb attack inside the army headquarters in April 2006 was serving his second extended term which was earlier scheduled to end on 06th December 2007.
Vice Admiral Karannagoda's service was due to end on 22nd November 2007 prior to yesterday's service extension. Both Commanders were candidates for the post of Chief od Defence Staff, with Vice Admiral Karannagoda being the senior of the two Commanders.
