Sri Lankan team of investigators will leave for Thailand to interrogate LTTE's procurements unit head Kumaran Pathmanathan shortly, defence sources said. Kumaran Pathmanathan, better known as KP has been taken into custody by Thai authorities on Monday in Bangkok. But Thailand's Interpol head Col. Apichart Suribunya denied the media reports and said that none of the agencies in Thailand has arrested him. However, according to reliable information, KP disguised as one Peter Ibrahim, had held a Swiss passport when he was taken in to custody. It is learnt that he has used more than 20 passports within the last 2 decades to run around the world to purchase arms and equipments for the Tamil military struggle in Sri Lanka. A close confidante of LTTE's supremo Vellupillai Prabhakaran, KP is one of the few surviving members of the LTTE's pioneers.

This is perhaps the biggest ever breakthrough in the international crackdown on the LTTE. KP's second in command Pratheepan Thavarajah was arrested in Indonesia in January this year, which means the procurement arm of the LTTE is now severely depleted. The US crackdowns, coupled with the SLN's ability to target supply vessels is certainly a shot in the arm for the GOSL. The military/intelligence gains of late have been phenomenal. Let us hope that this is backed up by reaching out to the Tamils of the north and east, so as to cut the recruitment chain from its roots.

You mean shot in the arm for LTTE right?

Excellent analysis. Most people cannot make this analysis and have a one-track mind. This makes DefenceWire's work worthwhile. Thank you!
Your site provides an objective, refreshing read... thank you for the effort.
Thank you castedeus. I must say, Deshapalanaya is equally enthralling for people coming from a defence background.
