Special Forces Kill LTTE's Military Intelligence Head

An elite 6 man team of the Army's Special Forces Brigade ambushed a van in the general area Palaimadu in Northern Mannar District last evening killing the LTTE's Military Intelligence Leader (Internal) and three deputies. A powerful roadside claymore killed him and three others instantly. The assassination was later confirmed by LTTE sources who identified him under the rank of 'Colonel'.

The assassinated leader identified as Shanmuganathan Ravishankar by pro-LTTE sources, operated with the nom-de-guerre 'Charles' and was a very close associate of LTTE's Internal Intelligence head, Poddu Ammaan. Both are from the Jaffna District. A massive search operation is now underway to destroy the Special Forces unit, which is expected to return to base safely within the next few hours.

Charles was credited with the wiping-out of some SLA Military Intelligence operatives working from inside the LTTE and was a prime target of the combined Military Intelligence-Special Forces unit known as the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol. It is now reported that Charles' whereabouts were leaked to SLA Military Intelligence by the same sources he was attempting to eliminate from within the LTTE.

The LTTE structure is breaking dowm from the inside. Good luck with their search operations as they will not catch the special force units of SL.

DefenceWire we really appreciate you.
But please don't publish things like,
"A massive search operation is now underway to destroy the Special Forces unit, which is expected to return to base safely within the next few hours"
I think it's not good for them, isn't it?
Thank You.

Sl this is exactly what we want.. a breakdown of the LTTE from within..hopefully every HARDCORE LTTE member killing each other.
Now you see what i have been saying..the LTTE are not worried about these deaths because they cannot be brought back to life. They are more interested in Murdering in the most brutal way possible the people who came to kill this murderous filth.About AAB attack i am pretty happy that most of them were killed instead of having medals pinned on them in killi.A very illogical statement ..because we lost a lot of good men and money..but hell medal pinning is a no go.Sorry but i had to say this also.

I also agreed with Bhathiya´s comment. I´m sure special force will returned to base, however last thing we need to do is confirming LTTE if worst happens.

perein...lets not kill the "big pig" now.Better to kill many of his close associates first to paralyse command structure if you can call it that.then him.the last thing we want is for the LTTe to become a collection of a band of bandits who operate under the leadership of different leaders..then difficult to kill them.

I can't believe how could LRRP team penetrate into LTTE territory through the heated FDL and safely come back. Is their FDL that porous?

Defencewire,

Can you identify the Terra Leaders in this TN photo?

Also, can you please give us any passable information about "something massive in Colombo this week" per maha?

bhathiya,
The team was safe so that's why we put it out. But we didn't say from which sector they reentered the army controlled terrain. Now that is super sensitive.

sam,
To Charles' left you can see Soosei and to Soosei's left, it is Ramesh.

Attrition plus continous conventional assault seems to be working quite well.

It is good to know that the MI functions seem quite effective.

Whos is this Charles guy? Isn't the Intelligence Head is Pottu?

LTTE is good at promoting cardres to higher rank, don't fall in to the trap.

According to my intelligence (which is the size of a peanut) I bet pottu amma is next. Or is it, Pottu Amman. lol

comrade defencewire,

a query if i may..

"Sri Lanka's army chief said last month the army surrounded the LTTE's bases in the northern Wanni region and halved the rebel force, which now numbers about 3,000 fighters." --bloomberg

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601091&sid=a3erZLT9tf18&refer=india

is this true? have we now halved the regular infantry (which according to your previous article numbered approx 6000)? if so, then one might expect the ltte to face a SEVERE manpower shortage later this year..regardless of their auxillary sitution.

Unknown said...

jiffy, its just an estimation....a minimum estimation.

jiffy said...

tell ya what though..in two years (or so) thats awesome work! in the middle of a so called ceasefire to boot! by the end of this year they'll be screwed for human resources at this rate.

Guys,...

Glad to knoe that the DPU guys made it back safely..Hoorah!!

I'd like to clarify something about the STF..now,do they have access to their own artillery, armoured vehicles, and other supporting heavy weaponry,or do they have to depend on the army, for it?..i understand that the STF uses Buffel APC's with machine guns on them, but do they have any heavier weapons, like mortars, artillery guns?..

The attrition games must continue. At the same time the we must try to gain FULL control of the seas around Lanka and sink any LTTE weapon carrying ships.

Defencenet I am against the idea of posting LRRP mission information. If you post so, keep it so vague and fuzzy.

The naval intel part is a global enterprise. Irrespective of what out guys say, it was immediately in the aftermath of the joint US and other international naval excercises that the tiger rust buckets were identified. Were our clever naval intel guys sleeping all these years?...
Anyway, the fact is we need to enhance the ground fighting capabilities of our men, support them with the knowledge that their families will be cared for well, if they get killed. As it is now, what happens to the young widows of dead soldiers is a well known dirty secret. Those who've seen it wonder who the real enemy is..
