LTTE Regiments: Charles Anthony

Charles Anthony Regiment Insignia
The Charles Anthony is the LTTE's first conventional regiment (Padai Pirivu). The number one in the above insignia probably explains its seniority. The emblem has a significant criss-cross of LTTE's earliest rapid-fire gun, the Sub Machine Gun.

The Regiment was commanded by many famous LTTE 'Commanders' including 'Col' Swarnam, 'Col' Nagulan and 'Lt. Col' Nakulan. At its inception 15 years ago, the Charles Anthony Regiment was actually a guerrilla unit with some semi-conventional warfare capabilities.

The Charles Anthony Regiment could have as many as 1000-1500 cadres presently. Hardcore cadres could be around 500. They are almost entirely northern Tamils. Charles Anthony was Prabhakaran's earliest conventional military formation. The unit has also been trained by LTTE Military Wing Leader 'Col' Balraj.

The name Charles Anthony comes from Prabhakaran's personal friend and comrade-in-arms Charles Anthony, an early LTTE recruit from Trincomalee District. He was killed by the Sri Lanka Army at Meesalai on 15th July 1983. Pirapaharan named his first conventional unit the 'Charles Anthony Regiment' as a tribute to his close friend. The LTTE leader later named his only son Charles Anthony Seelan, as a further tribute to his old comrade.

The Charles Anthony Regiment has fought against the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in Cease-less Waves -I (Oyatha Alaikal-I) to capture the Mullaithivu SLA base, the Kilinochchi SLA base, Cease-less Waves II, against the Jaya Sikurui Operation and the second successful LTTE attack to capture the Elephant Pass Base.

The Regiment, considered part of the LTTE's Special Forces is suffering almost daily casualties at the hands of normal infantry regiments of the Sri Lanka Army.

Now much of Charlse Anthony is deployed to protect the Butcher Prbhakaran's sorry *ss.

Once our SLAF could make 24 hour air presence, these sorry *sses would become little kittens.

We need to get there soon!

noltte=peace,
Bro fully agree with you.We need to make these guys sufficiently desperate to lauch conventional military operations..one way to do this is to kill several cadres on a daily basis..which is what the forces are doing..then the LTTE will face a point of no return..

I simply love the ending of the article. Keep up the good work.

Does this means Charles Anthony is now getting used regular basis?

Perein,
I think the current purpose of the charles anthony is to mainly stop the conscripts from surrendering to the forces.

When you study them you realise there are places with same name.
Good example is Puliyankulama in mannar and Puliyankulama proper on the A9 road. Similar way Adampan in Mannar and Mulathiv.

Interesting to see our old sinhalese names that has been changed by Tamil people worked for Survey department (almost 100% tamils)during British rule. See the link;

http://www.geocities.com/place.names/barelist.htm

We should ask survey department to make a sri lankan map with old sinhala names.

noltte,

Imran-Pandiyan is a regiment who's purpose is to defend VP.

CA is probably defending the 3 rings around Kilinochi, and the 3 around Mullatheevu.

Right now, I think the Female regiments are the ones being battered, with a few CA and Jeyan. sprinkled in.

Guys tell me where your brave SF went when LTTE's Unceasing wave 1,2&3.When they were confronting normal LTTE soldiers they just ran away.....shitting in their pants...

If LTTE able to get their Arti ammo supply in large amount then the same thing is going to happen..All SLA will run away from their FDLs.

The difference lies in the way the war doctrine has changed. From a semi or rigidly controlled-autonomy for the ground commanders during the previous regimes, in particular during the ponsy years, the SLA has turned into a fully fledge professional army with ground commanders capable of effective decision making at operational levels. While that has its own disadvantages in certain situations, the decisions have proven their value in the results raked in.
SLA's strategy of inflicting attritional damage without offering static targets has proven very viable, and is being studied by foreign militaries for adaptation.
The amount of continuous and unbearable damage being caused by its campaign is the rason for the Norwegian backed western diplomatic pressure that is being waged against the country.

Sri Lankans need to be made aware of the covert and hostile actions the Norwegians have taken against us over the long period of time, so that even future political leaders are steered clear of these nasty folks.

They send in waves of people in row formation starting with the least experienced to the most. The ones that come first waves are generally the weakest such as underage girls running towards army defenses. Most of them get moved down by machine gun fire. The ones that survive cut barb wire or step on mines to clear the way for the next wave. Over time, the defenders run out of ammunition or due to sheer exhaustion just give up. They then capture the camp.

LTTE Balakumaran admitted they lost 3000 in Unceasing waves ops against JayaSikuri.

hey lankan,

another tamil reguee boy, learn the history of Sri Lanka before you talk abotu Sri Lankan names in Sri Lanka. All those names were once sinhalese names, and tamils just added "lam" at the end and change few words around. In fact, change your name to reguee instead of lankan because you'll never be a lankan, tamil ltte supporting refugee boy. LMAO!!!!! Dont read history books of sri lanka by tamilnadu historians, read history books of sri lanka by the great sinhalese historians!

Balaguru (as I remember, in DN) said he is from tamilnadu and wanted to know details about SL conflict, few months ago. It seems he has leraned rapidly-a crash course from Nadesan.

//..Because of the DN activity and habit like this the forum is failing like the country ...you can compare the number of people who comments 2 weeks before and now....defence net is just failed thats what i can say .....For DN ignoring tamils made to ignore your site ah....?//

DN may be you can consider taking shyam also to your team-he will work on increasing the popularity of blog.

In the USA a black guy is on the race to become the president. He doesn't talk about things happened decades ago; slavary, discrimination etc. Mistakes were admitted and corrected. He talks as a real american not as a black.

Tamils in SL still talk about some thing happenned in 56, 83 etc. They live in past, no future. Mistakes were admitted and corretced, mostly, may not be 100%. Tamil di-ass-pora now getting readu for thier e-elamless future. Only things they can celebrate past; 56 langauge issue, 83 riots, unceasing waves, KAB,AAB attacks, killing 1000s of civilians etc. And they are doing it now, in the blog.

VP's eelaam struggle killed 50000 humans and nothing acheived. It is so funny tigers spend time on blogging now, for an elaam.

You have misintepreted what I said brother.

Let me discuss about Tamil names in north and east. Tamils who occupied all the big posts in the Survey department had the liberty to change all sinhala names into tamil names. British masters allowed them a free hand during early nineties when they surveyed the whole of Ceylon.

Let me show you few examples;

Puliyan-kulam --Puli means in tamil Tamarind, Kulam means lake
Old sinhala name was SIYABALAWEVA

Mullative --Moola means in tamil Roots, Tivu means Island
Old sinhala name was MOOLADOOVA

Nagarkovil --Old sinhala name was NAGAKOVILA

Nintav ur --Old sinhala name was NINDAPURA ur means village, gama
Mutt-ur -- Pearl village‘ MUTU GAMA

Naina-tivu -- NAGADEEPA

Muhamalai --Malai means mountain or hill -MAHAKANDA
Kudiramala--Sinhala name is -- KIHIRIKANDA

Valikamam Kamam means town, village -WELIGAMA
Kodigamam --GODOGAMUWA
Chunnagam --Chunna means lime -HUNUGAMA
Mallakam --Flower village -MALGAMA
Kondavil -- KONDAVILA
Kokkuvil -- sinhala meaning crane pond -KOKKAVILA
UDUVIL -- sinhala meaning Upper pond -UDUVILA
