SLAF Headquarters has been reduced to rubble. The explosion was so powerful that the inland revenue building was badly damaged by the shock wave.
Each TAF aircraft was to drop two bombs and then dive into the main target.
Both aircrafts dropped their bombs on target, but the aircraft that targetted Katunayake crashed before performing its Kamakize dive.
Nevertheless the ability of the TAF to reduce the SLAF headquarters to rubble is major feat... A couple of high ranking SLAF personnel have been killed and many badly injured.

With the downing of these 2 planes, the Defence ministry now seems to beleive that the ltte's air unit has been totally eliminated.
However, it was beleived that the ltte had around 5 Zlins and 1 Helicopter.
With the forces laying seige on PTK, the HEART of the ltte, they might try another suicide attack on a key target soon with their remaining planes (if any).
So I would not roll-up the Air Defence system right now.

quite a drama happened last night at bia.as i heard this is what happen. at about 8.30 whole camp was alerted,lights off and all passengers evacuated as plan and practise before except aviation, srilankan and airforce security staff. at about 9.10 pm 5 search lights started to search airport sky's from five directions. later they started fire from different directions. at that moment airforce bia commander commanding from the walki talki's . whole sky filled with red bullets. news received from seeduwa sf camp that they were firing taf above their camp. at about 9.50 taf enter the camp from negombo road side. one search lite spot the taf plane and all guns atak that but how ever it manage escape. at the same time mig plane requesting for emergency landing for a technical felier. chief officer ordered to switch on the runway lights only and mig safely landed. behind mig taf plane came- this time four tights spot it. officer orders gunners to shoot exactly. (gahapan pakayo gahapan hariyata.) then taf fly lower to avoid the aa power. taf turned right and engine sound stops. as i heard officer con. every one threw the set's (weldone putha weldone.)
as i heard taf pilot was not shot but his head was seriously damage.

Last night I watched the airshow close to the airport and thereafter shared a drink with a neibour who was on leave from 59 Div.
Few questions I like to post is although we managed to bring down both Zlings away from their intended targets there were many grey areas.
Although the Army claimed that they knew of the take off from PTK no attemt was made to intercept them before they reached CMB.
Futher it seems as if Colombo lights were switched off just minutes before the airshow started.(heard from friend)

@PEREN no. i can confirm two taf pilots was dead. i mean taf pilot was not shot but he dead coz of a wound. there was early warning 65 min before the actual attack happened and day before mi confirm possible attack.

Do you know a single country where some individuals in a community do not espouse racial hatred? We can’t make every individual in a community to conform to our beliefs. We can certainly strive to eradicate racial hatred but regret to say that I can’t think of any society which has yet achieved that goal completely.
What matters most importantly is preventing ruling governments from making racial discrimination legal.
Sri Lankan governments have never ever enacted a single piece of legislation with a primary intent of discriminating Tamils. Even the Official Language Act of 1956, which was called “Sinhala Only Act” by the opportunistic politicians at the time, was introduced to help the masses to conduct official businesses in a language more than 80% of them knew instead of using unfamiliar English (before this Act, 95% of the people in SL who didn’t know English were forced to deal with the government only in English. They were at the mercy of an interpreter in their own country). When the Government was made to realise that those citizens (Tamils) who could not work in English or Sinhala were still disadvantaged, they further refined it by introducing the Tamil Language (Special Provisions) Act 1958.
As recently as 1963 in the USA, African Americans were legally denied even the basic of human rights. For example, blacks, even their pregnant women, were forced to offer their bus seats to whites BY LAW. Now that was government sponsored racism (even though the President Johnson introduced the Civil Liberties Act in 1963 to rectify the situation it took a while before blacks were allowed to benefit from that). We all know how far the USA has since progressed in their race relations.
The world has become a better place now. Higher educations, exposure to the other parts of the world through travel and international media have made us better acquainted with the rules of the global village.
My grandfather would have disinherited his daughter if she fell in love and wanted to marry someone from another race. My father in that situation would have been upset for about three months before reconciling. Now for me, race is never going to be a show stopper. Well I think that is a big progress.

yesterday's attack was more complex than what exactly happened. it is true that damaging the Zlins is important but it seems like there is more to it. SLDF believes that this is likely to be the first attack carried out by ltte pilots if not the second one after the attack in Oct. the hired foreign pilots might have already fled.
even though it was not brought up as news, police today arrested two tamils with suicide kits and what they reveal is very very interesting. their plan was to hijack two ambulances from General hospital yday.
this leads SL military to believe that this is infact a suicide mission but the target might be something more important. possibly temples trees and then we all know if something like that had happened, those ambulances will not be checked and the two stories relate to each other. The other point which cnfirms that this is a suicide attack is that the planes have taken off from the A35 road and no way it could have landed back there. also there were many bombs found than the usual practice.
with all this it is better to reconsider the investment on the F7s i guess. we could have invested on more guided ground to air missiles instead.

Actually they did, although these legislations did not affect all Tamils equally (1948 Ceylon Citizenship Act disenfranchised the upcountry Tamils, 1972 standardization policy was originally based on ethnicity before shifting to district).
What was more severe was unofficial policy which increasingly built an anti-Tamil environment, particularly after 1977.
