Countdown to the end begins...

Loud explosions were heard by the Army from inside the NFZ today. Sources told DefenceWire that the explosions could possibly be weapons and explosives dumps blasted by the LTTE prior to an impending Military Assault on the LTTE.

The exact nature of the assault is still unknown. Since the final warning to surrender was given today, the operation can be expected any moment now. All units of the Army are on standby awaiting the Commander's orders and are on high morale.

Ground Commanders told DefenceWire that they are ready to face any enemy and that they don't mind high casualties since it is to finish the LTTE once and for all. Although the Army's elite units might be used extensively, there is a high likelihood of regular units, specially units like the Mechanized Infantry from the 55 and 53 Divisions taking on much of the responsibility. The involvement of the Navy and possibly the Air Force cannot be ruled out either.

Remaining small groups of Tigers from Charles Anthony, Ratha, Imran Pandian, Jeyanthan, Malathi, Soothiya etc. who escaped the box-in attempt are now without their more illustrious Commanders. Returning civilians claim their morale is at the lowest ebb and are in mortal fear. Any rapid incursion into the NFZ whereby a channel is opened-up for civilians to retreat could begin the isolation and subsequent annihilation of these remaining cadres.

The desire of the trapped cadres to escape the LTTE cannot be ruled-out. Rasiah Ilanthirayan, formerly of the LTTE political wing (a.k.a. Marshall) was a high-profile cadre who attempted to flee the LTTE but was apprehended, beaten and redeployed in the NFZ.

Many of the Political Wing cadres have also been deployed, among them was Elilan- former political wing head for Trincomalee District who was last seen in Mathalang. The Army was able to reestablish the identity of all the dead LTTE Leaders thanks to an LTTE doctor who surrendered over the weekend.

Escape via boat can also be ruled-out. 3 Naval cordons are in place in the seas off the NFZ. The first line of defence is formed by the Elite Special Boats Squadron and the Rapid Action Boat Squadron.

The second line of defence is formed by Dvora and UFAC Fast Attack Crafts while Gun Boats upto the Offshore Patrol Vessel form the third and final line of defence against any retreating LTTE leaders. In addition, the coastline is guarded by the 55 and 59 with mounted anti-tank missiles and the SLAF MI-24 gunships are also on standby.

# I think cutting off the sea escape routes is difficult but critical. What about SLN ability to detect submarines?

I think sooner we try to finish this highier the risk and casualties. If SLN try to land they may face huge attak and lose vessels. SLAF may get AA fire and SAMs. Deploying large troops may result in LTTE firing behind histages and to avoiding civilian casualties SLA taking casualties.

I think PTK type smart plan is needed so that;
1) Catch or kill top tiger leaders
2) Civilians can come out

Hope GenSF knows....

Re. Earlier post; I mean we can spend more time and end this less own casualties rather than hurrying and end up with high casulties. Despite all the monkey shows world around end of the LTTE (at least military wise) is set and its upto SLDF to do it good way.

Prolonging the rescue mission can cause more deaths and casualties.

Therefore, now is the best!

My request is to deploy more and more Thermal Imaging around the NFZ edge and take out as many LTTE snipers as possible before commencing the assault!

Since we are tight-lipped about the mission, we can only hypothesize what it would actually look like.

Considerations and some possibilities:

1. Terrain, whether breaking into manageable pieces or not, is unimportant. Only two things are important. The first is to search and destroy the leadership. Like in many hostage scenarios, the hostages themselves and any defectors from the hostage-takers' side become primary sources of HUMINT in addition to other electronic warfare. Secondly, the quick separation and extraction of the hostages. This is more challenging that killing the LTTE leaders.

2. Likelihood- A small force of elite soldiers, possibly in disguise, could systematically takeout the LTTE leadership while other troops herd the civilians away from the action. These things can and must happen simultaneously.

3. Any amphibious or heli-drop scenario is probable but only after the spear is firmly planted inside the enemy to secure the periphery/reinforcement/extraction etc.

4. The actual operation could be as simple as all units jumping into the safe one with each unit playing a specific pre-determined role.

5. It could be neither one of these scenarios and an entirely new approach.

DW, very interesting speculations. Whatever the many options you have stated, it wouldn't take any acuity whatsoever to see that it has to be done rapidly (Indian elections), with minimum non-combatant bloodshed. Challenging.

Fighting in NFZs is different from fighting in the open because there can potentially be thousands of civilians living among and occupying the same real estate as the enemy. As combatants, the Sri Lankan soldier's job is to kill and wound enemy insurgents, not civilians. One way to win NFZ combat is with light infantry using small-unit tactics. It's a difficult, inch-by-inch task which involves squads and platoons clearing buildings, rooting out snipers and attempting to keep civilian casualties to a minimum, all at the same time.

Victory can only be achieved at the small-unit level. Soldiers must be trained to take on enemy forces larger than themselves, just like our enemies are prepared to do

I think we must use overwhelming firepower and more rapid action all around no fire zone. Yes some civilians will have to pay some of the prize (order to cure the patient doctors must cut several body parts)

Yes we’ll have to blow through civilian fence.

So don’t wait, do it now or never – waiting is the game altte want us to play.

please Don’t do that !!!

Dear Patriots,
To paraphrase words immortalized by great Winston Churchill:

The gratitude of every home in our Island, in our Nation, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the Sri Lankan Soldiers who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of this war by their prowess and by their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. All hearts go out to the soldiers, whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day…

Thank you DW for the update and subsequent analysis…….

I feel that we need to complete this operation ASAP for political and humanitarian reasons. Our goal should be to ‘rescue the civilian population’ rather than going after LTTE at this point. In the process we will have to take out the LTTE leadership and the cadres. But for political and long term stabilization reasons we have ensure that our intentions are very clear.

Of course we cannot rescue the civilians with out destroying the LTTE. World, the Tamil population will have to accept this ‘objective’ at least on the face value. For the longest time we have suffered because we have said and done the right thing in the wrong way. Knowing LTTE and their supporters are waiting to twist any little thing to their advantage, we have to show our sincere intentions.

We need to remember that this battle or battles are the short term objectives of SL stabilizing the situation to a lower level. It is indeed not the end of LTTE or Tamils supporting a ‘Tamil Eelam’. Our long term political aim should be to win over the Tamil Population and make a United Sri Lanka, so we together could be one of the best in the world.

Tactically, I feel SL Forces will try to separate the NFZ in to small areas like how Israelis did. There is no need for a surprise assault; we have to just do it. Which ever the way we go there will be lots of casualties to the own forces and the civilians. If we do a night attack we may reduce own casualties, but LTTE may indiscriminately shoot at the civilians. In this sense it would be better if a dawn attack is carried out so we have the whole damn day to mop up, shoot any suicide bombers and destroy any heavy weapons, including the remaining LTTE cadres. LTTE was never good in day fighting and always relied on night to surprise SL forces. Finally, let us pray that this will end up in minimum number of casualties, because which ever the way it goes we will loose another Sri Lankan. All because of a murderous terrorist who only wanted to protect his drug running illegal empire.

Guys Mexico is in our bag now! :)

Mexico has reassured Sri Lanka of its firm support at international fora, including the UN Security Council. Mexico is holding the presidency of the Security Council in April.

Mexico confirmed that they do not have any intention of permitting the Sri Lankan situation to be placed on the Security Council agenda, as it does not pose a threat to international peace and security.

This is a sequel to talks in Mexcio City between Foreign Secretary, Dr. Palitha Kohona and senior Mexican government officials, including Vice Minister Gomez-Robledo. A press release issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Colombo yesterday said:

“Dr. Kohana explained how the LTTE had cleverly ‘herded’ thousands of civilians into the tiny no-fire-zone in the North East of Sri Lanka, while pulling back its combatants and weapons also into it with the intention of sheltering behind this human shield and using these thousands of human hostages to save itself.

“He repeated the call of the Government to the LTTE to let these hostages go (which will automatically result in a cessation of hostilities) and lay down their weapons for the sake of the civilians.

“The Mexican authorities expressed their understanding of the dilemma confronting Sri Lanka in view the fiendish circumstances deliberately manipulated by the LTTE and offered to do everything possible to bring the civilians out to safety.

“Mexico also expressed its appreciation of the large quantities of food and medical relief supplies being sent by the Government to the people held hostage by the LTTE with the assistance of the UN and the ICRC.

DW, thanks and appreciates taking time to give us a glimpse of what could happen in the “real” war game.

It is wonderful and on the same note horrifies me thinking of our possible casualties. May triple gem bless our brave ones and hope their training and moral and instincts will minimise the casualties.

On lighter note this so called “loud noise” heard from NFZ could just be the “POP” noise came when SunGoat take his d#ck out from Navindran’s (or Peter’s or Bahirav’s) arse! Ha ha ha Tight arse ha? Ha ha ha

Regarding the next operation I would like to c something like Russian SF did while ago to rescue hostages from the Opera Theatre. They pumped the sleeping/aesthetic gas and shoot the teras but as we know LTTP boys and girls are horney as shit so we can pump some type of “sexy gas”(I can buy a shit load of them from sexyland shop and DHL) and kill them while they are on their last orgy on the Tamil Peelam land! Ha ha ha

It is time to move on and kill the SunGoat and the rest as we should not drag this too long.

50% true and 50% false.

tigers CAN escape to other parts of SL. this does not involves breaching the deborah "line" of defence and the OPV "line" of defence. it will only involve RABS and SBS enforced defences.

RABS and SBS teams don't have (enough) detection systems of their own. they depend on detection by others. this leaves enough room/time/opportunities for tiger boats to slip through.

as saduni pointed out quite correctly the success rate of SLN attacks has ALMOST ALWAYS been less than 50%. (i can prove this)this is if,

detected, and,
engaged.

otherwise it will be 0%.

some ppl have a WRONG perception of the 4 tiered defence mechanism by SLN.

it is NOT in circles. it is in DISTANCE TO THE SHORE. OPVs and deborah are deployed FURTHER away from the shore. TF this MIGHTY second and third lines of defence DOES NOT stop a shore to shore (within SL) movement.

after sliping through the defences close to shore, they might set sail out of SL.

No doubt Prabha must be planning to escape in some manner. Few things that might be running through his head..
1. Does this NFZ has a large enough area for a small plane to land and take off? Do we still have anti-aircraft guns to prevent this?
2. Are the medical and humanitarian supplies going in-and-out of NFZ carefully scrutinized so a 200lb pig cannot hide inside a disguised hidden compartment?
3. Is the lagoon well secured so a submarine cannot emerge from the other side?

Prabha and remaining cowards will definitely not use brute force to escape since that is futile and they love their lives.
I hope SLA will ignore any white flags Prabha and gang have hidden up their asses to pull out when SLA approaches.

Loud Explosions in NFZ Reported April 08, 2009

Patriots,

Let me speculate on what these explosions could be, in priority order:

1. Tigers using explosives to excavate underground defenses

2. Tigers testing effectiveness of underground mines laid to kill our troops in the expected move into the NFZ to rescue civilians, or to blow up escaping civilians. These mines could be laid along the land corridors into the NFZ, the shallow fords in the lagoons between the NFZ and the mainland, and along anticipated beach landing zones to forestall invasion of the NFZ by sea.

3. Tigers are destroying their residual military hardware and explosive stockpiles to deny their "donation by capture" to the SLA.

4. Accidental ignition of explosives stockpiled in the NFZ.

5. Tigers blew up some civilians who wanted to escape so they could blame it on the SLA for a last minute propaganda effort.

6. Tiger leaders committed suicide by blowing themselves up.

What is the most likely of these in your opinion?

These explosions must have been observed by our UAVs. Does anybody have any additional information on what is going on?

Loud explosions heard in NFZ, after the final announcements made to LTTE to release civilians

Several loud explosions have been heard in the NFZ soon after army made the final announcement for the LTTE terrorists to release the civilians held hostage by them this afternoon (Apr 8). The army has made announcement using loudspeakers positioned few hundred meters short of the western border of the NFZ.

Army suspects that the terrorists have launched some sort of an attack at the civilians who tried to escape their rule.

DW,
do we have snipers in position around NFZ? if so, y dont we take hits and maybe kill the LTTE guards surrounding the civilians? not all at first... little by little, i mean i dont think that more than 200 cadres are still left.. maybe kill about 50 of them and they wont even poke their head out.and when these civilians escape, maybe the SF or the commandos or the experienced LRRP guys can infiltrate the compund and attack at the right time. Im sure that our guys are watching these buggers very closely, and monitoring their every move. if we monitor these movements this would give us a chance to find where the top leaders are hiding in the NFZ.

the second thing is, if poddu is in charge now, it will be a little more tough as he is a master mind than the Pig itself. but with the combined efforts of all the top notches in our forces, poddu wont be much of a big problem.

the third thing is, can u give an estimate about their fire power that is left? and the amount of civilians still trapped?

Defence.lk thinks the sounds may be results of a civilian 'rebellion' against the LTTE.

Ananda-USA said...

Yet Another Juicy Speculation: Rebellion by Civilians/LTTE cadre in the NFZ?

Rebellion crushed in the NFZ?

Serious disturbances have been observed in the NFZ since last afternoon (Apr 8) with loud explosions and machine gun fire have been heard in the Ampalawanpokkanai area, defence.lk special correspondent on the field reveal.

Sri Lanka Army units deployed just 500- 400 m short of the LTTE built earth bund on the border of the NFZ in Ampalavanpokkanai West, reported sighting of a large group of people gathering in the NFZ during the afternoon hours before the explosions and shooting began. The sources suspect a serious clash between the LTTE terrorists and their civilian hostages held in the zone.

" Troops have observed something similar to organized gathering of people in the area in front of them following an announcement made to the LTTE terrorists to release the civilian hostages and to lay down their arms", said our correspondent .

"Then, they have heard gunshots and explosions in the NFZ, following which they too have been kept on full alert", he added.

Ampalavanpokkanai is the closest area to the Army forward boundary to which the civilians can access via the causeway, if allowed by the terrorists. Troops have been manning their defences few hundred meters short of NFZ border there, in order to provide the maximum protection to the civilians escaping the terror clutches.

Meanwhile, troops deployed in the area rescued a group 118 civilians from the LTTE clutches during the morning hours yesterday. The group included 51 children, 36 women and 31 men.

According to our correspondent, LTTE has been busy with building command bunkers and other fortifications on the NFZ border close to the causeway, knowing the possibility that civilians may escape their rule in large numbers from this area.

"It is likely that LTTE is going to concentrate all its remaining field leaders and best fighting cadre in this area", he said.

Meanwhile, intelligence sources revealed that Pottu Amman has ordered his so-called police chief Ilango send all his cadre to the frontline.

Vaiko Threatens Hell, Fire & Brimstone if Prabhakaran Dies

According to MOD, however, VP is already Mentally Indisposed now, like Karunanidhi was last year. Is this illness CONTAGIOUS?

Vaiko warns of bloodbath in Tamil Nadu
By B. Kolappan
The Hindu, Chennai
April 09, 2009

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday warned that Tamil Nadu would witness a bloodbath even if the slightest harm befell Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam leader V. Prabakaran.

Addressing a meeting here to condemn the killing of Sri Lankan Tamils, the MDMK leader said the mind of the people in Tamil Nadu had become a “volcano.” It was now a long time since they had forgotten the Sriperumpudur incident (assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi), he said.

Prabakaran had a place in the hearts of Tamils the world over and they would not tolerate the slightest harm to him, Mr Vaiko said, adding people in Tamil Nadu also would not have a different attitude.

He said they would not be cowed down by the police and guns. The LTTE and its leader Prabakaran could not be defeated in the war.

Recalling the shoe-throwing incident at the news conference of Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram, he said the self-respect of the Tamils was manifested in the self-immolation of 12 persons. The Sikhs could only hurl a shoe, “but here we have people who can get bombs. The next generation of youth will not be like me,” he later told reporters.

Mr. Vaiko said the sea between India and Sri Lanka could not permanently prevent the Tamil youth from visiting that country with arms. “If the Argentine-born Che Guevara could fight for the Cubans, why not the youth from Tamil Nadu for the Tamils in Sri Lanka, with whom they have an umbilical cord relationship,” he asked.

Mr. Vaiko said “India would not remain one country” if Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not stop the war and if India did not urge him to stop the war.

The dangers of Tamil chauvinism

By Malini Parthasarathy
The Hindu, Editorial
October 14, 2008

The latest campaign in Tamil Nadu masterminded by a desperate LTTE must not be allowed to undermine the sound policy decision upheld by successive Indian governments since 1991 to stay out of Sri Lanka’s internal affairs.

Time appears to have stood still for most Tamil Nadu’s politicians who seem completely insulated from the complex ground realities that mark India’s new political landscape. India’s political establishment and civil society are anxiously grappling with the enormity of the horrific new threat to Indian society — terrorism — fast becoming an everyday reality on the streets. But oddly enough, seemingly oblivious of the contradiction, political parties in Tamil Nadu, led by the MDMK and the PMK, have recently plunged into high-pitched activity aimed at garnering support for the LTTE, a deadly terrorist organisation.

These parties have launched a campaign in the State ostensibly to express solidarity with the Sri Lankan Tamils trapped in the war zone in northern Sri Lanka but the timing of this campaign which appears to have materialised overnight, is a dead giveaway. The Sri Lankan army, just two kilometres away from the LTTE’s administrative capital, Kilinochchi, has successfully encircled the Tigers and their leader who are virtually trapped in their bunkers. For the first time in years, the Sri Lankan government appears to be on the brink of a major success in its battle with terrorism. There is now the very real prospect of the capture of the elusive LTTE chief, Velupillai Prabakaran, who is behind the assassination of a former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.

Tamil Nadu’s politicians clearly have different standards for India and for Sri Lanka. It would appear that they accept that battling terrorism in India and saving Kashmir from Islamist jihadis are important national tasks but not so in Sri Lanka which has been menaced for more than two decades by the LTTE. It was the LTTE which pioneered terrorism in South Asia and produced two generations of suicide bombers who have claimed numerous high-profile victims. For far too long have the legitimate aspirations of the Sri Lankan Tamils been held hostage to the hegemonic ambitions of the LTTE chief Prabakaran who has consistently sabotaged all attempts to find political solutions to the ethnic conflict.

When Pakistani generals and Islamist militants characterise the separatist uprising in Kashmir as a “freedom struggle,” the collective Indian national consciousness is understandably outraged. Politicians in India are rarely exercised over concerns that the human rights of innocent citizens are often trampled upon in police action against terrorists or their perceived accomplices. There is indeed a broad-based political consensus behind the Indian state when it takes strong steps to root out terrorism.

It is therefore all the more incongruous that the political parties in Tamil Nadu, including the ruling DMK and its principal challenger the AIADMK have decided to work themselves into a frenzy over the alleged violation of the “human rights” of the Sri Lankan Tamils in the context of the military action against the LTTE. Evidently, the game plan of the LTTE and its supporters is to rally Tamil chauvinist sentiment and translate that into pressure on New Delhi to signal its disapproval to Colombo, thereby weakening its moral authority in the eyes of the Sri Lankan Tamil community.

There is a strong sense of déjÀ vu, listening to the rhetoric and speeches of leaders in Tamil Nadu, whose understanding of the Sri Lankan political situation is mired in a time-warp, their images of the ethnic conflict drawing primarily from scenes of two decades ago, particularly the flashpoint of 1983, when the Wellikada prison massacre highlighted dramatically the plight of the Sri Lankan Tamil community and brought thousands of refugees to Indian shores. But after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, the Indian national psyche recoiled from a continued engagement with the Sri Lankan ethnic crisis.

Since the 1990s, New Delhi’s policy has been to acknowledge the terrorist character of the LTTE and the imperative of a military confrontation with that organisation, while continuing to offer moral encouragement to Colombo to find a political solution that would provide a framework to empower the Tamil community. Meanwhile, India made clear its utter repugnance for the LTTE by banning it not just because it was involved in the murder of Rajiv Gandhi but because it viewed the LTTE as a terrorist movement that would continuously strive to stimulate the secessionist sentiment in Tamil Nadu as long as Sri Lanka continued to have ethnic strife.

The situation in Sri Lanka itself has undergone profound changes since the 1980s, when it was easier to conceptualise purely political solutions and rule out military responses to the violent dimensions of the conflict. At that point in time, it was indeed possible to sideline the militant groups of Sri Lankan Tamil politics by engaging the political interlocutors in the Tamil community such as the urbane leaders of the TULF, notably Appapillai Amirthalingam, who recognised the key to political empowerment lay in the democratic process. But with the ruthless elimination of every credible interlocutor in the Tamil community by the LTTE which insisted that it was the sole representative of the Sri Lankan Tamils, the space for a political solution has narrowed over the years, rendering null and void the several exercises seeking a devolution of power to the Tamil community.

Yet the Thirteenth Amendment to the Sri Lankan Constitution which was a consequence of the Indo-Sri Lankan Agreement of 1987, envisaging devolution of power to provincial councils has become a touchstone for the resolution of the ethnic conflict. The Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa, has made it clear that he remains committed to a political solution of this sort. In a meeting with the All Party Representative Conference (APRC) last Saturday, Mr. Rajapaksa emphasised that it was the duty of the Sri Lankan state “to ensure to the Tamil people of the North the same democratic rights as enjoyed by the people in all parts of the country.” He also took care to explain that the military action against the LTTE was against terrorism and not against the Tamil community.

The Sri Lankan President has acquired unprecedented political space for his military campaign against the LTTE. Several factors including the rebellion of the powerful LTTE commander Karuna and the fact that there is now in place an elected provincial council in the Eastern Province have rendered irrelevant many of the points in the earlier Sri Lankan Tamil political platform. That there is a credible and workable political solution now in sight has made it easier for Colombo to launch military operations against the LTTE. It is indeed the sovereign right of Sri Lanka as it is of India to eliminate any terrorist organisation that poses a fundamental threat to its survival as a nation.

The parties in Tamil Nadu which have strong ties to the LTTE such as the MDMK and the PMK are in the forefront of this new campaign which has sprung to life overnight after decades of silence. Their rhetoric is dated and wearily familiar. The MDMK’s Vaiko, brimming with moral indignation, has lashed out at the Centre for allegedly sending military assistance to Sri Lanka which was “unleashing a genocidal attack on the Tamil race”. Likewise the PMK’s leader S. Ramadoss has alleged that “the situation on the island threatens to eliminate the entire Tamil race”.

That the LTTE’s shadow lurks behind this new campaign is evident in the demand of Dr. Ramadoss that the Union government recognise the “Eelam Tamils struggle for their rights.” There is also an implied acceptance of the LTTE’s claim to be the only authentic representative of the Sri Lankan Tamils in the declaration of Dr. Ramadoss that the LTTE is “acting as a fortress for ethnic Tamils.”

As the LTTE has presumably calculated, this binge of competitive chauvinism has compelled Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to up the ante on this issue, adding for good measure, his own dramatic assertion that unless the Centre cooperates in stopping the attacks on the Sri Lankan Tamils, not only would the Sri Lankan Tamils perish but so also would the “Tamils in Tamil Nadu.” The strategic design behind the campaign to “express solidarity” with the Sri Lankan Tamils that is now under way in Tamil Nadu should not be underestimated.

For the last decade or so, New Delhi has successfully resisted the various attempts made by the LTTE and its supporters in Tamil Nadu to force it to intervene in the Sri Lankan ethnic crisis. If New Delhi were to express its disapproval, even implicitly, of Sri Lanka’s sovereign right to recapture its own national territory from the LTTE, it would weaken the moral authority of India’s own actions in regard to its struggle against terrorism and the separatist agitation in Kashmir. This latest campaign in Tamil Nadu masterminded by a desperate LTTE must not be allowed to undermine the sound policy decision upheld by successive Indian governments since 1991 to stay out of Sri Lanka’s internal affairs.

Tamil Nadu Rabble-Rousers TURN ON EACH OTHER!

MK must apologise to Tamils: Ramadoss

Members of the campaign to stop the war and restore democracy in Sri Lanka, staging a demonstration near the Memorial Hall in the city on Wednesday.

CHENNAI: PMK founder Ramadoss has asked Chief Minister Karunanidhi to apologise to the Tamil people for his failure to save the Sri Lankan Tamils. At a meet organised by the Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Movement (SLTPM), Ramadoss said: “Accept that you (Karunanidhi) are useless, that you can only write letter, dialogues and poetry.”

“We looked up to you for leadership. But now you have become one among many. We won’t talk about you unless you apologise to the Tamils.” “The Union government has not denied that they are helping the Lankan government. You harvested the self-immolations of 1965 in 1967 (elections). But we are not going to do that. We are not even going to talk about that. We consider elections secondary to this. We will continue this struggle when necessary,” he said.

Rally for Tamils: Meanwhile, TNCC chief K V Thangkabalu has urged his party workers to participate in the Thamizhar Perani (Rally for Tamils), organised by the DMK to express solidarity with the ethnic Lankan Tamils on Thursday.

In a release, he said that Karuninidhi had taken many measures to safeguard the interest of the Lankan Tamils for the past 50 years.

He said that the UPA and the DMK-led State government had taken steps for the Lankan Tamils.

The Tamil Film Producers Association members will be also joining the rally with the support of other like-minded parties for the cause of Lankan Tamils on April 9, said its president Rama Narayanan. In a press note here on Wednesday, he said that actors, film producers, cine technicians, film distributors and others in the celluloid world would take part.

The Dravidar Kazhagam has also requested its cadres to participate in the rally for Lankan Tamils organised by the DMK. It has also planned to conduct a statewide agitation on April 12 in support of the Lankan Tamils who are facing the wrath of the Lankan army.

In a statement, party president K Veeramani said that the time had come for people in the State to come together and work towards a meaningful exercise to stop the genocide of the island Tamils.

The members of the State Federation of Construction Workers and the associations of farm labourers and unorganised workers will also be joining the rally organised by the DMK, said a release from N Ponkumar, who heads these bodies in the State.

Pictures of leaders burnt: Meanwhile, some advocates of the Madras High Court burnt pictures of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakshe protesting against inaction on their part to prevent the killing of Tamils in the island nation.

In Coimbatore, the MDMK staged a demonstration at Gandhipuram against the Central and the State governments’ failure to end the alleged killings of Tamils. Pollachi Lok Sabha MP Dr Krishnan led the protest. Cadre raised slogans against the government’s and urged them to compel the Lankan government to declare ceasefire and to protect Tamils.

Scum of Sri Lanka (Jaathiye Paahara Ballo)

Highlight of the Day

Ranil Wickramasinghe

Having lost the faith of the people of Sri Lanka and patriotic elements within UNP; Ranil Wickramasinghe has started blaming others for his own acts of treachery. It is not the act of signing a CFA that qualifies Ranil Wickramasinghe to be the top scum of Sri Lanka, but signing a CFA with the loop holes for LTTE to violate the spirit of a CFA. Among his top acts of treachery, serving our bravest soldiers heads on silver platters to LTTE, engaging in anti Sri Lankan propaganda in other countries (to prevent us getting financial aid), threatening foreign banks to renege any agreement if he comes to power, insulting achievements of our soldiers, and forming anti Sri Lankan alliances with other top scum Rauf Hakeem, Mano Ganeshan , and Mangala Samaraweera are a few of his most noticeable acts of treachery. This scum bag is a threat to the security of our nation, mainly because he is out of touch with the common Sri Lankan, he will bend over backwards to serve colonial masters, and most importantly he will reduce the UNP to level a level of a minority party. It is the responsibility of the people of Sri Lanka to push this scumbag to a dark corner of SL history.

Peelam War V : Innocent Tamils vs. Lttp:

"Sri Lanka Army units deployed just 500- 400 m short of the LTTE built earth bund on the border of the NFZ in Ampalavanpokkanai West, reported sighting of a large group of people gathering in the NFZ during the afternoon hours before the explosions and shooting began. The sources suspect a serious clash between the LTTE terrorists and their civilian hostages held in the zone.

"Troops have observed something similar to organized gathering of people in the area in front of them following an announcement made to the LTTE terrorists to release the civilian hostages and to lay down their arms", said our correspondent . "Then, they have heard gunshots and explosions in the NFZ, following which they too have been kept on full alert", he added."

How to save the IDP's from LTTPs
1. make available thousands of empty boats from the lagoon to civilians. this will distablize LTTE control over the civilians.

2. or influx thousands of civilians to LTTE control areas mixed with our 'Agents'

3. or make some solid rumors (of cause false) to convince civilians that the LTTE is finised.

4. or send our group of impersonates (as praba) with a special squard to kill as many as possible.

we have to deal with this as soon as possible. if possible do not waste a second... whatever the humen cost ( i mean our soldiers) we have to do this.

Lot of funny happenings in TamilNadu.

Highlights:

- Pussycats support JayaLalitha after all the jokes of threats and other nonsense

- This maybe the last statement from Nade-sun.

- Jayalalitha never bothers about pussycat statements. What a way to dump them.

- Vaiko talks of bloodshed in TN. We do not like to interfere into TN's own issues. Even if we do not kill Fatpig, there is bloodshed always happening there, among castes, and political parties. So what?

- Karu-nagena-nidi is dumped. Wonder when the pistol man or suicide girl is sent for him.

- Karu-nagena-nidi sends a TELEGRAM to central govt advocating a ceasefire. Of all the modern communication means the old brat is sending telegrams. I thought telegrams are now a way of past. And read between lines. All what he wants is the publicity that he sent it.

- You know that colossal statement of Pottu Amman. "Sorry guys. This is all we can do. It is now beyond our control". As soon as he told that making way for the decimation of the hardcore disciples, rest of the world started sending it in Pottu+Fatpig's way. Eric Solheim did so. London Met police too. Sooner we will here the same message from TN and India. But I doubt whether there will be a pussycat alive to receive it.

These pussycats are funny, aren't they??? Equally funny are their TN god fathers.

Killed by LTTE carder? Killed by SLAF? Killed by SLA? Killed by SLN? Killed by taking a cyanide pill? Killed by an Indian arm force? Killed by H2SO4 in north sea? Died of heart attaché? Killed by a accident?

Is there a price tag for his dead body from FBI, Interpol, India or SL Police?

Why can’t we use a derivative of a fentanyl like at 2002 Nord-Ost siege? This will reduce our casualties which I feel must look into.

[What if SLA tried a small scale attack with TEAR GAS. Would this work?]

It would certainly work as it is doubtful the para-sakkiliyas have gas masks...

However, we need to be careful as there are infants/toddlers in the NFZ and it is undetermined at this moment what effect it will have on the infants/toddlers (as it could well be that their bodies are not matured enough to process and neutralize the effect of such gas)...

However, using tear-gas by any law enforcement authority in the world is considered quite acceptable in containing violence/riots/neutralizing armed groups/etc. (as per UN standards)...and it is something SLDF/MOD must look into I agree.

Cheers mate...

Many comments here of the ill-effects of dragging on the capture of the NFZ (and thereeby liberating Tamil civilians and of course putting a bullet squarely through the forehead of any LTTE motherfuckers we find there)...

I agree this is not something we must drag on longer than absolutely necessary...(we don't want this to go "handigeywila" to our disadvantage do we?)...

I forget who, but someone said earlier that when PTK fell, that was the time to have attack the NFZ as the MFs were in total disarry...a view I wholeheartedly agreed with...

however when I talked to "Colombo" today I was told that the LTTE MFs had already well devised the "human shield" factor so well that had the SLA done that in a hurry, there would have been quite a disaster....

This is indeed quite the enigma...however, I am told SLDF have a sure-shot plan A, and failing which, a Plan B, and at worst-case scenario, a Plan C and we should see an end to this hostage taking soon.

I have a question for those LTTE supporters that think it is justified to break Sri Lanka into two, claiming its the tamil "homeland". As far as I know, tamils have deeper roots in india and had control over india for some time. Unitl, they were hauled out to work as slaves around the world. (trinidad, guyana, south africa..etc) They still live in masses in Tamil nadu, India. Don't you think you have more of a "right" to claim a separate homeland in India?
I think, you guys are a sad, desperate bunch that is ashamed of not having a place call home, (I feel bad for you too). But, not this time around, not in Sri Lanka.
True, you had the opportunity, the weak government, volatile political situation, corrupted politicians and laid back Sri lankans. You thought, hey what better place than Sri lanka to establish a "tamil homeland". Right???

I think it should be done with three lines. First line execute hunting down LTTE while any civilian like people sending to the second line, where 'filtering' takes place. Third line will control the floow of the civilians and terrists out from the war zone.

Probably there will be groups from second line following the first line into the NFZ and transfer unarmed people out of for clearance checking.

1st line will have to hunt down any armed person and rtansfer any civilans to the second line and continue. Priority should be leaders, heavy guns (e.g. AA). Process can be accelerated by dropping in force from air and sea at identified targets (using satelites) - this will ease the evacuation of civilians.

Points to note are:
- Snipers are vital in open terrains to reduce casualities to forces and civilians
- 1st line should keep safe distance even from civilians until 2nd line takes full control and ensures those are unarmed.
- Close support of Choppers would be useful.
- Navy will have to tight up their current three levels fo defence and carry out amphibious attacks.

Hopefully, we can hunt down LTTE with minimum casualities as soon as possible!

Karunanidhi Shedding Crocodile Tears!

MY COMMENT:
GET LOST Mr. Karunanidhi! Stop preaching to us about Sri Lankan Tamils and attend to taking care of your own poor, illiterate, jobless, caste-ridden people in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu in particular, and India in general, has a long way to go to catch up with the social equity we have achieved in Sri Lanka. If it were not for the racist hypocrites of Tamil Nadu, who in collusion with misguided central Indian Govt officials, inflicted this separatist terrorism on Sri Lanka pursuing an expansionist Greater Dravidian Nation policy, today Sri Lanka would have been the model for all other South Asian nations to emulate. Instead, we are just now emerging from a 30-year nightmare inflicted upon us by people like you. We don't want your advice, or the crocodile tears copiously shed by you, by Vaiko, by Ramadoss or by Thirumavalavan...just attend to uplifting your people and leave us to take care of ours!

EXPRESSBUZZ ARTICLE:
Treat Tamils with dignity: Karunanidhi

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK leader M Karunanidhi on Thursday said the Sri Lankan government should treat Tamils with honour and dignity even if the LTTE was defeated in the ongoing offensive by the island nation's Army.

Addressing a rally here to protest against the offensive, he said, "Tamils should be given equal rights and powers in the affairs of Sri Lanka. History will not forgive Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, if he illtreats Tamils."

He said if Mr. Rajapaksa thought that the Tamil race in the island could be annihilated, he would be wrong.

He said Congress president Sonia Gandhi should emulate her mother-in-law Indira Gandhi, while handling the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

"Though the situation might have differed now, Ms. Sonia Gandhi should emulate Indira Gandhi," he said in an obvious reference to the Indian government dropping food packets in the affected areas in the early eighties.

He appealed to Ms. Gandhi to take "early steps" to prevail upon the Sri Lankan Government to stop its offensive in northern parts of the island. "Please take early steps to stop the war. Respect our sentiments," he said.

Vaiko lost his balance: Cong

New Delhi: Denouncing the statement of firebrand MDMK General Secretary Vaiko warning of a ''bloodbath in Tamil Nadu'' in the event of anything happening to LTTE Chief Velupillai Prabhakaran, the Congress Thursday said he had lost his balance and sense of proportion under the heat of elections.

''May be the electoral heat made Vaiko lose his balance and sense of proportion,'' AICC spokesman Anand Sharma said at the party headquarters.

Saying that the policy of the UPA government on Sri Lanka was unwavering and very clear, he listed the steps taken by India to impress upon Colombo the need to protect the innocent Tamils.

''We stand by the rights of ethnic Tamils. Even after intensification of conflict, India has sent relief materials and our doctors and paramedics are still operating hospitals in Sri Lanka,'' he said.

In this context, he said distinction had to be made between the sufferings of the civilian population and the terrorist outfit (LTTE) which is banned in India, Sri Lanka and by many other countries.

''We must not make the mistake of equating terrorists with honest, inncocent civilians,'' Sharma, who is also the Minister of State for External Affairs, said.

CHENNAI: MDMK leader Vaiko, a known Tamil Tiger sympathiser, faces police action over his alleged inflammatory speech supporting the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

An FIR was filed Thursday against Vaiko, a day after he warned of a bloodbath in Tamil Nadu if LTTE chief Prabhakaran was harmed.

"Charges have been made against Vaiko for spreading disaffection among people and speaking against the banned LTTE," an official, at North Beach police station where the FIR was registered, told IANS.

Vaiko Wednesday said: "Prabhakaran lives in the hearts of Tamils. Tamils all over the world do not want even a small harm happening to him. If anything happens to him there will be a bloodbath in Tamil Nadu," he said.

MY COMMENT

Dear Vaiko, Ramadoss, Thirumavalavan...we need you here in the Wanni now. All of our frontline leaders are dead and we need a few good men to replace them. WE WANT YOU THREE HERE right away. Write your last will, cash you assets and donate to the nearest LTTE office; we will send a FISHING BOAT for you. What, you don't know how to fire weapons? That's OK, you can SHOUT back at the Sri Lanka Army....we know you are good at that...we just need more bodies to hide behind. Also, we are having trouble motivating our suicide cadre now, and we know that you have experience getting people in Tamil Nadu to IMMOLATE themselves; that experience is just PERFECT for our line of work here in the NO FIRE ZONE in the Wanni. We need more people to serve as CANNON FODDER and no one seems to be interested anymore; Yes, they are all jumping ship..the cowardly RATS! PLEASE come right away! Your UMBILICAL CORD BROTHER, VP.

A Cheap Car for Sri Lanka Until We Make Our Own Peaoples Car?

Tata Nano finally goes on sale across India: For safety, status and price, Indians snap up ultra-cheap Tata Nano on first day of sales

By Erika Kinetz, AP
Coimbatore, India

April 09, 2009

At 6:46 p.m. Thursday, R. Sampathkumar signed a check for 3,809 rupees ($78) and ordered his first car: a Tata Nano.

Bookings for the ultracheap car, which retails for 100,000 rupees ($2,050) plus tax and transport fees, opened Thursday across India.

Sampathkumar, who is 30 years old and single, makes about 20,000 rupees a month ($410) as a goldsmith and says he wants a Nano for "status."

"Automatically, women will come forward," he said, grinning.

Dozens gathered Thursday to gawk at the silver Nano sitting on a red platform with pink satin skirting at the Tata dealership in Coimbatore, a mid-sized manufacturing hub in southern India. Two DJs blasted Backstreet Boys, Ricky Martin and Madonna songs, while college kids snapped photos of the snub-nosed car on their cell phones.

Despite the festivities, analysts say Nano sales won't do much in the short term to help debt-strapped Tata Motors, which is facing falling sales and is in talks with banks to refinance a $2 billion loan it took out to buy Land Rover and Jaguar from Ford last year.

Vaishali Jajoo, auto analyst at Mumbai's Angel Broking, estimated that even if Tata Motors manages to sell 250,000 Nanos a year, it will only add 3 percent to the company's total revenues.

Production constraints mean Sampathkumar won't get his new Nano until July, at the earliest. Violent farmer protests forced Tata to relocate at the last minute a factory that was to exclusively build Nanos, and the replacement won't be operational before year's end.

Customers who want to buy the Nano must pay 300 rupees for an application form, then pay the entire cost of the car or get financing from one of 18 banks Tata Motors made special arrangements with.

Tata will accept orders until April 25 and then randomly select 100,000 people who will get the first shipment of vehicles. Everyone else will have to wait. Tata will pay interest on booking deposits: 8.5 percent for people who have to wait one to two years to get their Nano, and 8.75 percent for those who hold out longer.

Tata spokesman Debasis Ray said the company would not release data on the number of orders until after the process closed, but added that "the signs are encouraging."

He said 300,000 people had visited Tata's 400 showrooms across the country since the car went on display April 1.

In the last two weeks, the Nano Web site has gotten 20 million hits, he said.

K. Thamilarasu, the divisional sales manager for Tata Motors in Coimbatore, said 21 people paid for the car in full at his dealership Thursday. Another 19 made downpayments for financing arrangements.

"I have been in this field three decades," Thamilarasu said. "This is the first time we are noticing a revolution."

Rajeswari Nandagopal, a teacher, paid 300 rupees for a booking form because she wants to buy a Nano for her son, 17, who currently rides a motorbike.

"These days going on two-wheelers is a great risk," she said.

J. Rathimasawamy, 70, a retired schoolmaster, said he sold his Maruti WagonR two months ago because he wants to buy a Nano. "It's the cheapest," he said.

Rathimasawamy, a wiry man with white hair and a dusty pair of flip-flops, took a bus from his home 25 miles (40 kilometers) away to buy a booking form.

Vijayakumar Jayabal, 50, a policeman who earns 12,000 rupees ($246) a month, said he wants to buy a Nano because he can't squeeze his family of four onto his motorbike.

"We only fit three people maximum," he said.

Sri Lanka is my country where I was born, grown up, studied, worked, married and lived for 39 years of my life. During first 20 years of my younger age, I have never seen violence that is taking place today.

Murderous bastards of LTTE make my brothers and sisters from all ethnic communities suffer in unprecedented manner. LTTE and its leader Prabakaran are the worst kind of cancer that can happen to a society which has close links with religious and racial harmony at every corner.

There is no doubt in my mind about Prabakaran the megalomaniac who wants to run a mafia state within Sri Lanka is mentally ill and geared to destroy our goodwill towards each other beyond any possible recovery.

However, forces of truth, nobility, corage and determination are about to liberate our mother land from a worst type of mad dog who called himself Prabakaran. These forces are about show the aforesaid dog the only way to die in shame instead glory, it envisaged.

I sincerely thank all our brave hearts who have contributed to this success.

Lankans "behead" Nehru statue in London

Protesting Sri Lankan Tamils are being blamed for beheading the statue of Jawaharlal Nehru outside India House in London this morning.

Indian diplomats were informed of the statue’s desecration when they arrived at the premises of the High Commission in Aldwych this morning. The remains of the statue have been bound in a white sheet and are visible for all to see.

When contacted, India’s High Commissioner to UK Shiv Shankar Mukherjee said: “The statue has been damaged and the police are investigating. The police were there at night and they are on the job.”

Said Minister in charge of information at the High Commission, M. Subashini: “All we know is that the statue is broken, not how it broke.”

A spokesman for Scotland Yard said he was not aware of any formal complaint from the High Commission but said, “Any criminal damage will be investigated and the perpetrators prosecuted.” (Indian Express)

regarding smuggling in of heavy artillery like 130mm guns, these would have to be first disassembled and then shipped part-by-part..thats the only way for the tigers to ship em in..(unless they plan on docking at colombo port and unloading the whole artillery gun,pay the customs fellows LKR 50K and coolly transport them in container lorries..ahem!!

Guys, for those of you who still see Tamil Nadu through LTTE's mirrors want to let you know that the tamil nadu common people does not support LTTE. All those noises you hear in media are from those who got benefitted from LTTE during its hayday. The people are not going to vote based on eelam war. If you are not aware TN has moved a long way since the early nineties.
I wish the eelam war comes to end early so that I can visit srilanka and see the beautiful places that was mentioned in tamil literature and shown in movies like "Bridge over river Kwai". I wish the beautiful places are intact. It is sad that only beautiful places in the world are tormented with terrorrism.

Karunanidhi claims...Porus was a tamil King.

Pinbara Bro,

In a PIG'E EYE Porus was a Tamil King! NO WAY! Karunanidhi is then rewriting history to massage his ethnic pride...as the LTTE did in Sri Lanka.

Porus (340-317 BC) was a Northern Indian king reigning in the Punjab area. He was of Yadava extraction, and of the Yadavansha lunar vansa.

Alexander never penetrated India beyond the Punjab region. The battle against Porus (Battle of the Hydaspes River in 326 BC)was the worst the Greek Army had ever fought. It discouraged the Greek hoplites so much that they mutinied and demanded to be allowed to go home. Alexander acceded, and the Greeks sailed down the Indus river to the Sea, and along the coast of Pakistan to Persepolis, Persia, where Alexander died.

Porus was befriended by Alexander who admired his courage; he was restored to kingship as a Hellenic Satrap, and apparently was assassinated in 317 BC, by the Thracian Greek general Eudemus.

PORUS: King of Paurava and dominions extending to Hyphasis.

Reign: 340-317 BC
Birthplace: Paurava, Punjab
Died: 317 BC
Place of death: Malayketu, Punjab
Successor: Malayketu (Porus' son)
Royal House: Paurava, Yaduvanshi
