LTTE's grand finale before 1st May?

We have received reports that indicate Velupillai Prabhakaran, the LTTE supremo is still in Mulaitivu. 4 days ago his son Charles Anthony was spotted by now defected LTTE cadres. If Prabhakaran has the guts to face the Army he will not live to make another Heroes Day Speech.

The Mulaitivu battlefield was fairly calm today. The 55 Division and 58 Division linked up two days ago and have started consolidating the area north of Puthumathalang. The clearing operations were spearheaded by 2 Commando Regiment and the Mechanized Infantry of the 55 Division.

The 3rd phase of the rescue mission could begin within the next 48 hours as the objective is to destroy the LTTE by 1st of May and to secure some 50,000 civilians thought to be still trapped inside LTTE areas south of the A-35 in Vellamullaivaikkal. Fresh SF troops from SF 3 and 4 have been brought to a nearby location in case of need.

DefenceWire would like to take this opportunity to call on all Sri Lankans to organize at the village level, possibly around religious places of worship to collect garments for the rescued civilians. Food and other essentials are being provided by the government but there are still some shortfalls.

An act of kindness by the people in the south can go a long way in terms of repairing ethnic harmony in Sri Lanka. Soon after the Tsunami in the East, ordinary Sinhala villagers voluntarily collected and distributed their belongings to Tamil and Muslim villagers along the coastline. This was the first wave of relief that reached the people in distress.

How they planned to exile Tiger Supremo in Idi Amin fashion

By a special correspondent

According to certain well sourced news reports, an offer of safe exit was made in the late summer of 2008 to LTTE through an influential group comprising “former Canadian and US diplomats as well as representatives of the ‘co-chairs’ and others of various political persuasions based in Colombo”.

According to sources, this arrangement consisted of the following components: 1) Immediate cessation of hostilities (2) Safe passage to fifty senior leaders of the LTTE and their families to any country that would accept them (3) A blanket amnesty to all combatants with all existing charges withdrawn (4) The agreement guaranteed by India, Norway, Switzerland, and two other countries chosen by both parties (5) The evacuation of the senior LTTE supervised by the ICRC.

The offer, intended at avoiding an unnecessary “bloodbath”, was reportedly conveyed by the Sri Lankan government to the LTTE as well as its proxies in the Tamil diaspora. Despite repeated entreaties, however, the “Tamil leaders” in Toronto had failed to respond to the offer let alone meet to negotiate, these reports say.

Idi Amin style

Some authoritative sources said that what had been considered was “a kind of Idi Amin plan — to pay a fat pension to the supremo and to send him to live in luxury for the rest of his life”.
These sources also said Foreign Secretary, Palitha Kohona visited London, Paris, New York and Toronto in late August and early September for “necessary consultations”.

But Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona, when once questioned about a possible deal, said a “settlement had never been on the cards”. He admitted to having made those visits but said he had done so to meet members of the Tamil community. “It was more like groping in the dark to bring this to an end,” he said. “No deal or settlement was ever offered, either formally or informally.”
The government’s claim last week that the hierarchy of the LTTE has now been confined to a stretch of eight square kilometres in Mullaitivu has raised questions about what will happen to Velupillai Prabhakaran, the leader of the LTTE, as well as other senior chiefs of the terror outfit.

It has been speculated that Prabhakaran might attempt to flee the country taking the sea route using a submarine. The government, pointing out that the naval forces have fortified their positions, has ruled out any possibility of Prabhakaran taking the sea route. Some reports suggest however that certain international actors with vested interests are conspiring to ensure safe passage to the LTTE leader.

Asian Tribune, a web-based news magazine generally known for its pro-government views, recently said that the Sri Lanka Government “is now concerned that there is an international conspiracy precipitated by US Ambassador, Robert Blake, with the support of Norway to give the LTTE leadership an opportunity to escape from imminent defeat and to provide safe passage to a neutral country for Prabhakaran”.

Safe passage

Quoting “top international diplomatic sources”, the news report said the LTTE had established contact with the United States of America through Norwegian facilitation to get safe passage for the LTTE leaders by way of surrender, through the United Nations.

The report further stated: “The 48- hour ceasefire that was negotiated and agreed upon by the Government, at the insistence of Ambassador Blake, on the sidelines of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year on April 13 and 14 in Sri Lanka, has not yielded a single trapped civilian from moving from the ‘No Fire Zone’. Even Ambassador Blake is known to have told his associates that the LTTE will “never release the civilians” during the ceasefire, and thus the question being asked is why did Blake then champion a ceasefire? The fact that the ceasefire which was brought about by the pressures of the international community has not yielded the proper results is causing the Military to suspect a conspiracy to enable the LTTE leadership to escape”.

The US ambassador Robert Blake has denied these charges.
The report alleges that Robert Blake was in touch with “the LTTE via intermediaries via a known arms smuggler and money launderer - “KP” K.Pathmanathan” and that the “48- hour ceasefire declared on the sidelines of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year was negotiated and agreed upon by the Government at the insistence of Ambassador Blake”.

The terras are mounting direct fire with 3 or 2 130mm guns, and yesterday they tried to infiltrate the 55 rear by using boats in the night, but the 55 gunners along the coast took care of that..

Not exactly.I know I will get flamed for this, but this is the truth.

What do you expect to do when you respond to a SOS from your neighbour, who was struggling to control Leftist struggle led by a Maoist rebel.

You send your army to protect the international airport, your navy to patrol the high seas while your airforce joins the counter offensive against the insurgents.

But what you dont expect is,the very same country allows your arch rivals Airforce to be refuelled in the ongoing war, while your own airforces are protecting the very same airport.

Now why,Sirimao decided to do this, only she can tell. But Indira was furious naturally and pounced when the oppurtunity came.

Sri Lankan Ruling Party Heads for Landslide Win in Provincial Poll

2009-04-26 12:38:28

Xinhua

The ruling party led by Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse is well on its course to record a landslide win in Saturday's Western Provincial Council election, elections officials said on Sunday.

In the final results declared early Sunday of two of the three districts that went to polls, Rajapakse's United People's Freedom Alliance recorded over 60 percent of votes.

The main opposition United National Party has barely managed to cross 25 percent mark.

Some 3.8 million people were eligible to vote in what was expected to be a popularity test for Rajapakse's war effort against Tamil Tiger rebels.

The government said it is on the verge of totally crushing the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as almost all of the 15, 000-sq-km territory held by the LTTE has been captured by the government in a military offensive launched in 2006.

Claiming discrimination at the hands of the majority Sinhalese- dominated governments, the LTTE began to fight for an independent Tamil homeland in the north and east since the mid-1980s, resulting in the killing of more than 70,000 people.

CASE STUDY #1 OF INDIAN DOUBLE STANDARDS

In 1984, Indira Gandhi Ordered the Attack on the Golden Temple Sikh Complex in Amritsar even though non-combatant civilians were in the Temple Complex.

Objective: Enforce the Rule of Law and Order, disarm and remove insurgents threatening the integrity of the INDIAN State.

From: wikipedia.org

Bhindranwale and undermining the Akalis

The second reason was attempts made by the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi to use Bhindranwale to undermine the Akali Dal (Eternal Party), a religious party. The strategy backfired because Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale started challenging Indira Gandhi and the Indian government. Bhindranwale and his followers became a source of disruption and mayhem. Bhindranwale gained a lot of support from the Sikhs, rural Sikhs especially because they felt alienated from the Indian government. Their disruptions became so bad that in 1984, Indira Gandhi had to order the Indian Army to flush out Bhindranwale and his followers who were in the Harimandir Sahib complex, Sikhism's most holy shrine, in Amritsar. The operation undertaken by the army was codenamed Operation Bluestar. Most Sikhs inside the complex were killed, the Akal Takht was bombed, and the temple was left in ravages. Bullet holes are still visible in the complex. Many Sikhs viewed Operation Bluestar as a political tool used by Indira Gandhi to win the elections that were to be held in few months after Operation Bluestar.

Operation Bluestar

Operation Bluestar was a mixed success. Negotiations were held with Bhindranwale and his supporters who were holed up in the Harimandir Sahib Complex. After all negotiations failed, Indira Gandhi ordered the army to storm the temple complex. A variety of army units along with paramilitary forces comprising mostly of Sikhs surrounded the temple complex on June 3, 1984. The army stormed the temple without giving any warning to innocent pilgrams trapped inside. The army had grossly underestimated the firepower possessed by the militants. Thus, tanks and heavy artillery were used to forcefully suppress the anti-tank and machine-gun fire. After a 24 hour firefight, the army finally wrested control of the temple complex. According to Indian Government sources 83 army personnel were killed and 249 injured while insurgent casualties were 493 killed and 86 injured. Un-official figures go well into the thousands. Along with insurgents, many innocent worshippers were caught in the middle. The estimates of innocent people killed in the operation range from a few hundred to thousands of people.

Sri Lanka ruling coalition sweeps regional polls

April 26, 2009 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's ruling coalition led by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) of President Mahinda Rajapaksa swept regional polls with close to 70 percent of votes in two out of three districts in the Western province.

Campaigning on a platform of military victories against Tamil Tigers, the ruling United Peoples' Freedom Alliance, racked up 69.5 percent of the vote and 14 seats in Kalutara, a district south of the capital Colombo.

The main opposition United National Party (UNP), wracked by a leadership crisis, was left a distant second with 24.6 percent of the vote and 5 seats for the Western Provincial council.

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), a Marxist-nationalist former ally of the ruling party was left with 1 seat at 1.6 percent of the vote.

In Gamapaha, north of Colombo, a district where the SLFP is traditionally strong the UPFA notched up 69 percent of the vote and 27 seats, against 26.1 percent of the vote and 10 seats for the UNP.

The JVP was reduced to 1.99 percent of the vote and 1 seat.

In the capital Colombo, where the final tally is yet to be declared, the UNP has held on to some of its strongholds but most populous suburbs have been swept by the ruling coalition.

From washingtontimes.com

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, one of the world's most violent terrorist outfits, are surrounded in northern Sri Lanka and about to be destroyed - but Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and European self-styled peacemakers are getting in the way of victory. The meddlers should let Colombo finish off this menace.

In desperation, the Tamil Tigers are using tens of thousands of locals as human shields. The Sri Lankan government declared a cease-fire and called on the Tigers to release their hostages, but unmanned-aerial-vehicle video footage shows the terrorists holding masses of innocents at gunpoint, refusing them freedom. Last week, Mrs. Clinton played into the hands of the terrorists by blaming the Sri Lankan government for the crisis. "The entire world is very disappointed" that they were "causing such untold suffering," she said.

Foreign governments and aid organizations are calling on Colombo to cease operations, fearing that further action will lead to a humanitarian calamity. Norwegian Environment Minister Eric Solheim has been the point man in trying to negotiate a new truce, but he has been denounced by both sides. In response to his unwelcome efforts, the Nation, a Sri Lankan newspaper, editorialized that "the caravan of military operations has to move on. The time has come to tell the salmon-eating international busybodies to mind their own business."

The Sri Lankan government is justifiably confused and angry at the international response to their progress. Sri Lanka has been fighting the Tamil Tigers for over 30 years. The Tigers pioneered the modern use of suicide bombing and have killed thousands of civilians. A U.S. government expert on the group tells us that the Tigers are "one of the most odious insurgent groups around, and for a long stretch of time had more suicide attacks than the rest of the world combined. It has made a cult of martyrdom and violated every single previous cease-fire." During the most recent truce, the Tigers took the opportunity to assassinate about 200 moderate Tamil politicians and the Sri Lankan foreign minister.

Last year, Colombo decided enough was enough and withdrew from the cease-fire agreement. Using innovative counterinsurgency tactics, the Sri Lankan defense forces dismantled the guerrilla network on land and at sea. They drove the Tigers from their safe havens and bottled them up in a four-square-mile patch of beachfront swampland. Tiger leaders are hunkered down in underground bunkers trying desperately to stave off their looming demise.

We can only imagine American satisfaction if we had al Qaeda in this position. It is unconscionable for the United States to castigate its Sri Lankan ally for prevailing in its war against terrorism. The Tamil Tigers have purposefully created the conditions for a humanitarian crisis and deserve neither amnesty nor mercy. There are ways to help resolve this standoff that will not allow the Tigers to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, such as providing military and intelligence support for pinpoint strikes against the terrorist leadership. Failing that, the Obama administration should mind its own business. The Sri Lankans are winning; we should let them finish the job.

CASE STUDY #2 OF INDIAN DOUBLE STANDARDS

SOFT on LTTE Terrorists in Sri Lanka,

BUT,

HARD on all Terrorists in India!

................

"Fatal hammer blows await terrorists: Chidambaram"ExpressBuzz.com, IANS, Sivaganga (Tamil Nadu)
April 26, 2009

Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Saturday sternly warned terror elements and said nobody will be allowed to play with India's unity "till the last drop of my blood".

"No terrorist or anti-national element will be allowed to play with India's unity and integrity till the last drop of my blood," Chidambaram told supporters here during election meetings."

As the holder of India's home portfolio, I am warning all brands of terrorists that fatal hammer blows await them as the endeavour to safeguard ourselves," the home minister said.

He also recalled his performance as finance minister giving facts and figures as he addressed a series of meetings in his parliamentary constituency 350 km south of state capital Chennai.

Chidambaram has won six times from this constituency.

The warning against terrorists and anti-national element comes as over 30 people were arrested all over Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Thanjavur and the textile city of Erode earlier in the day for attempting to burn Indian flags to protest the centre's alleged aid to Sri Lankan military moves against the Tamil ethnic minority in the island.

CASE STUDY #2 OF INDIAN DOUBLE STANDARDS

SOFT on LTTE Terrorists in Sri Lanka,

BUT,

HARD on all Terrorists in India!

-----------------
India cannot get away from the fact that they will have to face Tamils Nationalism one day. The best thing they can do is to get rid of Tamil Nationalism in Sri Lanka and then fight it in TamilNadu. Otherwise they will have to fight double hard. What ever Tamils say about Sinhalese applies to India as well. Until now it has been under the wraps because of the expectation that they would be able to carve out a Separate State in SL and then go on to get a separate state in India. Now they have realize that is not going to happen. So the gloves are coming off.
Hopefully India would handle this much better than we did from the beginning. There should be no space for Terrorist and what ever shape and form. Specially so called Freedom Fucking Fighters.

The website also says that on the day he was assassinated (May 21, 1991), Rajiv Gandhi was reluctant to leave Vishakapatnam for Chennai and then Sriperumbadur. But some Congress leaders convinced him to undertake the journey, which eventually killed him//

This is what happens when you read some half baked reports on a website.

Rajiv's flight from Vizag to Chennai was delayed as the plane had problems with its communication system.Being a former pilot with IA himself,Rajiv tried to fix the system.

He failed and they realised they needed a replacement system in place. His flight was cancelled and he left from Vizag airport to his hotel. His meetings in Chennai were to be cancelled.

But as fate would have it,a replacement was found to be available in the stock in Vizaag itself and was rushed to the airport.Rajiv midway to his hotel was informed about this and he decided to return back eventhough it meant that his schedule in Chennai would go haywire and he would address meetings way past midnight as well.

He had given apointment for an interview at Chennai and due to all this delay,he gave that interview in the car on way to Shriperumputhur. He stopped enroute to open his mother's statue at Shriperumputhur bypass which was his last public function.I still get a lump in my throat whenever I cross that junction

I think everyone in India understands the difference between the Tiger's and the innocent civilians held hostages by them.

The concern shown is for the civilians and not for the Tiger's.Unfortunately, for the Tiger's to be wiped out, casualties on civilian side cannot be avoided either.

As someone here said before,it what India does that matters most and not what it says(It has to say a few things taking various calculations into consideration).Didnt the GoSL release a statement mentioning that Ceasfire was never brought on the dicussion table by SS Menon and MK Narayanan?

I perfectly understand what you want to communicate. You mean to say " Pappa dont preach".But unfortunately in the International arena things dont work that way. What you are rather than what you do accounts most in this arena/

Take as a casestudy your country of residence. It must have killed millions of innocents if we consider its TRACK record in Vietnam \ Iraq \ Afghanistan etc.Still its the first to preach to others whenever it gets an oppurtunity.

Pathetic it maybe, but thats how things work

Sri Lanka didn't "allow" the Pakistanis to refuel. Under Sri lanka's policy of neutrality, planes and ships from neighbouring states had the right to refuel in the country. For All International Community, you all are worrying about :
1).
Concern : Security of entrapped Civilians

Solution : Ask LTTE to release Civilians. Politicians of Tamilnadu and Dispora protesting in London have good contacts with LTTE, so you can contact LTTE via them.
Once you get the assurance from LTTE, then Govt of SL can arrange a 6-hour truce for the release (it took only 6 hours to relase 100000, so this time is enough)

2).
Concern : Facilities for IDP
Solution : If you are not providing any support to government Relief efforts(other than BS talks)then shut your mouth up.
We have enough people in SL for BS talks.

3).
Concern : Safety of LTTE leaders
Solution : They can select between the options used by Daya Master or Theepan.

Pandula,
The mutual trust went out the window with Srilanka's behaviour during Indo-Pak war in 1971.

Sirimao went out and in came JR.But Indira remained at helm even then. Her opinion on Srilanka hadnt changed at all.To compound the issue,Americans tried to sneak in at Triconamalee

Indira felt it was to monitor India's nuclear facility at Kalpakkam. She had enough to suggest that Srilanka's acts were threteaning India and felt the need to act.

Ofcourse having a Kandy born person in helm at Tamilnadu influenced the decision she took as well.

I for one dont justify what Indira did or what Sirimao \ JR did. They all acted in the superior interest of their respective nations.Indira did achieve for India what she wanted and Kalpakkam functions without hindrance. But it cost her son's life later.

Coming to Rajiv,he took over soon after his mother's untimely death. His team had everyone from his mother's team.He was advised by them about the policy adopted by his predecessor in Srilanka and he followed it as well.

He realised the folly when ill equiped IPKF took on the tiger's.My maternal uncle was part of the IPKF and he decided to quit the forces as soon as he returned

Not because he was made to fight against his fellow tamils, but because his comrades died(official tally puts it at 1200+)for nothing and they had no clear agenda as to what they were supposed to do.

But,we must also remember that Premadasa joined hands with Tiger's and provided them logistics to take on the IPKF.It was such a maze.

I wont blame Premadasa as well as he wanted the external forces out of his motherland. He acted in interets of his nation and believed the already wounded Tiger's could easily be mauled by the SLDF's as soon as IPKF left.

But he was prooved wrong and paid the price with his life.

We will never get to know how
Rajiv would have responded had he been alive to take over the helm at 1991.

We see CLEARLY that eradicating the LTTE benefits both INDIA and SRI LANKA, but does INDIA see it as clearly and value it as much? They didn't see it, much less value it, 30 years ago, although we saw it very well even then.

The problem is that INDIAN national policy is very partisan; it changes with the wind direction. Often, the need of the party governing the CENTRE to remain in power is the DECIDING factor, and TN may provide the necessary swing votes.

Can we trust the future of Sri Lanka to such an uncertain ally? For example, if the BJP comes to power with a slim majority and requires TN votes to stay in power, will the POLICY towards Sri Lanka change, and we will be thrown to the wolves to placate TN?

I say, Sri Lanka must be very wary of dependence on this unreliable ally now, and become largely independent of INDIAN support. However, we should keep on educating INDIA that Sri Lanka is a reliable ALLY and FRIEND, but they cannot use us as a pawn in their local politics. We should establish good political links with both major contending Indian parties and emmerging leaders, so that India's national policy towards Sri Lanka will not change irrespective of who captures power there.

Ultimately, we must rely on rapidly developing our own economic and military strength, and strong diplomatic ties to other powerful allies. Only that will garner us the respect from India required for peaceful and mutually beneficial co-existence in the long term. National weakness in any of these three areas, will only invite continuous aggression, and unremitting bullying, from our dear Indian relatives. I figure that we will need two to three decades of non-interference and continuous economic growth to achieve these goals.

That is why I feel so strongly about keeping the flame of PATRIOTISM excited by this cathartic conflict alive in the hearts and minds of our young people. It must somehow be harnessed, nurtured, and kept burning to achieve these national goals. If we do that, then we will be able to assure great future for the people of this resplendent land.

Indian said...

Bonchi,
Thats a very funny logic.

I believe your views on TN altering policy change are a bit over exaggarated.

We have 2 alliances now.ADMK(JJ has been unwavering in her opposition to LTTE)+PMK(Chameleon's as we call them here in TN)+Vaiko(Would say his stand on Eelam has been stable)+Commies(They act on China's directions,India's own interest comes second to them) on one side.

We have DMK(Soft corner to LTTE)+Congress(I dont think I have to say anything)+VC(Rabble rousers)

JJ makes all the hallabaloo so as to make Srilankan tussle an election issue.JJ and PMK are the ones who could bring the numbers to Congress if they end up as the single largest party. They will switch sides easily as they will also get to rule in TN.

Karuna has no other go.As JJ is raising the pitch he has to play along to ensure that he doesnt loose out on the votes,if at all the people do vote on Srilankan issue.Once the elections are over,GoSL and the Indian Govt can breathe easier without this pressure.

If you have any doubts, just check the intervening period when parties were finalising the alliances, number of seats to be contested, candidates to contest etc. There was no headline worth news on Srilankan struggle then.Even Vaiko was silent. If this doesnt show you the true picture, then I dont know what will.

On the other hand,I do agree with your views on Srilanka being self reliant. Its essential. Now not being Self reliant is the only reason why IC is focussing much as Srilanka too needs help \ support from them.

As I said, I believe the reason is they were too busy in SL. But I may be wrong. Think about it, there are 80 million Tamils without a country. They think they are superior, and they can do much better job running the country than Sinhalese majority. In the same token, they would be thinking the same thing about Indians. So that is how I came to my conclusions. The reason that there is no arms struggle is not because of they love mother India (This I gathered by visiting other blogs), it is because they might not be able to fight the Indian Army.
Think about it, they are geographically very well placed in India.

Washington times Editor hits the nail on the head. Hope Clinton is reading.

Tigers At bay

Today we saw that LTTE has again made an offer of ceasefire to allow for civilians to be taken out. This should now be allowed!! and we should point out to the international communities and HR-Champions ( :-D ) how the LTTE used ceasefires to strengthen them selves and used those civilians to
dig bunkers and tunnels. Make them aware that only a handful civilians escaped during the "2009 New Year Ceasefire" and how thousands were able to escape before and after that ceasefire (it is when the carders defenses are distracted that the people can escape).

Now the LTTE is saying they are welcoming foreign NGO and media personnel into the NFZ. Why now? Why didn't they allow this before?

They do not have have any trumps to play with at this point of time. Are they planning to use these journalists and NGO personnel as bargaining chips (together with civilians) to make their escape?

Having said that please show the journalists (who are already visited the IDP camps) how the people are treated at the IDP camps and may be allow for "screened interviews" of some of these people. Simply emphasize the good things we are doing with the rescue and after rescue, and even welcome MP's of TamilNadu to donate food, tents to their brothers in IDP camps.

Do not mind the comments by the TN MP's during these days, they are just election gimmicks. But do not make hasty comments on them either. Do not make comments that would interfere with Indian elections either, cause the more support we have it will be more easy for us to finish this issue.

Hopefully we will be able to finish this war by mid may.

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on Sunday announced a unilateral ceasefire in Sri Lanka, a pro-rebel website reported.

"In the face of an unprecedented humanitarian crisis and in response to the calls made by the UN, EU, the governments of the US, India and others, the LTTE has announced a unilateral ceasefire," TamilNet reported.

"All of LTTE's offensive military operations will cease with immediate effect," said the press statement.

"We are in full agreement that the humanitarian crisis can only be overcome by declaration of an immediate ceasefire," the statement said, calling upon the international community to pressurise the Sri Lankan Government to reciprocate.

However, the Sri Lankan Government rejected the call and said the LTTE has to surrender.

If the GOV did not care about the Civilians the LTTE is over by now. It is because of the restraint of using the Heavy Weapons and Bombs that the WAR is still going on.

If the government did not care about the civilian casualties the fat pig would be lone gone by now.

It is because of the maximum restrains of our forces that we were able to rescue 100,000+ civilians (with minimum casualties). Anyone saying otherwise does not know the facts or are playing dumb.

//Thushitha,
As I said, I believe the reason is they were too busy in SL.
Think about it, they are geographically very well placed in India//
Not really.I think you are talking about the Srilankan Tamils who crave for a nation of their own.

I will not dwelve into the reasons they have for that,as I have no first hand knowledge on this topic at all.All I know is only that their propoganda machine worked over time.

In the case of TN,where is the need for the people to think about a separate country? What we dont have?I agree there ought to be some shortcomings, but I am talking as a whole, there is no necessity to think about a separate state at all.
To give you a case study, the Naxalbari movement had spread its tentacles in Kerala \ Andhra \ TN.It was wiped out clean first from TN - due to lack of support from people.Andhra got rid of the menace through its Greyhound forces recently and now the naxals are pocketed within a district or two.
Such is the confidence of election commision in TN,that entire state goes for polling in a single day.

Anycase,I am travelling and wont be visiting here often in next 2 days.Hope by the time I get time to logon,we have some good news and have got rid of the menace once and for all

Independent Tamil Eelam only solution, we will fight to attain it: Jayalalitha
[TamilNet, Saturday, 25 April 2009, 22:13 GMT]
A separate Tamil Eelam is the only solution that will permanently put an end to the problems of the Tamil people in the island of Sri Lanka, said Tamil Nadu former Chief Minister and principal Leader of the Opposition, Ms. Jayalalitha at a election rally in Salem city Saturday. In a powerful, moving speech, she resolved to fight to attain independent Eelam.

Ms. J. Jayalalithaa
Ms. J. Jayalalithaa
"I met Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravishankar who has just returned from the war-zone in the Vanni. He gave me CDs and photographs of the atrocities. My heart boils when I looked at it," the AIADMK leader said. If this pathetic situation of the Tamil people has to be removed, if the problems of the Lankan Tamils has to come to an end, an independent Eelam is the only solution, she added.

"We will fight to attain that independent, separate Eelam. Till today, I have never said that separate Eelam is the only solution. I have spoken about political solution, this and that. But, now I emphatically say, a separate Eelam is the only permanent solution to the Lankan conflict, " she said.

Earlier, Jayalalitha had announced at an election rally in Thirunelveali (Tirunelveli) on April 18 that if won in the coming elections and if the AIADMK-led alliance would have a say in the next Union Government, she would strive to get Eelam if a fair political solution was not found for the Tamil people in Sri Lanka.

If Sri Lankan politicians will decline the 10-20% commission out of each and every project they accept the bid on, the money available for rehabilitation is much more than you can collect from Sri Lankan diaspora abroad.

Most Sri Lankans send money home anyway since that is our largest form of income these days. Why try to get more out of them?

Imagine cutting 20% of our cabinet and let that money available for development?

Overseas Sri Lankans can be motivated to invest in teh Sri Lankan stock market, rather than 'donate' to any fund which may be victimized by corrupt politicians. Personally I will never donate to any such enterprise.

Instead what i do is buy sri Lankan stocks each month, which is now nicely building up into a solid portfolio. At anywhere between $100-500 a month, there's plenty of stock that can be bought cheap towards building up a diversified portfolio which will provide massive returns over the next 10-15 yrs.

Sri Lanka has unparalleled potential and is being seen as the next Hong Kong or Taiwan by most western investment analysts. A guy I worked with at a leading mutual fund company in the US is now based in Colombo, picking investments dirt cheap for US investment portfolios focussed on higher risk emerging markets.

This is a great opportunity for Sri Lankans abroad who want to come back home someday to retire.

Are you from Tamil Nadir?
Are you a Tiger?
Tigers are essentially solitary and territorial animals. That is why anywhere in the world all the Tamils have this characteristic. They like to live in their own community. Do not like to live in cosmopolitan areas.

Be aware friend, a day will come that India will consider your suggestion, but not to Sri Lanka, Pakistan or Nepal but to Tamil Nadir when you try to establish a Dravidian Kingdom in Tamil Nadir, your final goal. Many of you know that but do not wants to spell it out as is too hard to achieve as it is.

Do you think that Aryans are fools not to realize this? They know what you are up. But do not want to spell out early.

Think friend,

Why IPKF?
Why does India train our army?
Why did India give arms to us?
Why did India give air defense system?

Your leader VP knew that and eliminated wrong guy at the wrong time. But it bounced back. You try to cover up. But failed.
That is why you guys are going round.
1st North of Sri Lanka, Jaffna.
2nd North plus East of Lanka,
3rd North, East, plus North West of Sri Lanka.

The speed you guys were too fast. People realized. And now it is over.

Your plan to capture Sri Lanka and then to fight Tamil Nadir for a Dravidian Kingdom which is the final goal.

Now it is over friend.

Go and start from the last lap (in Tamil Nadir) if possible. Alternatively try at Canada or UK. May be you will find much easier than in Sri Lanka. They are large countries. They are more gentlemen, richer and willing to tolerate your claims.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/8019451.stm

The ceasefire declaration by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and its immediate rejection by the government have emphasised the starkness of the situation in which the guerrilla group finds itself, 37 years after first taking up arms for the cause of a Tamil homeland and 26 years after the start of all-out war.

Masters of communication, the Tigers were quick to disseminate their message to journalists all over Colombo and overseas, too.

But to many it seemed like a cry of desperation from the losing side.

With no government reciprocation, there can be no immediate improvement in the dire situation of the civilians trapped in the Tamil Tigers' area.

The only alternative for the Tigers would seem to be surrender, but they have vowed never to do that.

The balance of evidence is that their most senior leaders are still inside the war zone, which would make surrender less likely.

Nice to write back again but looking at 622 comments, my god, it looks like coming colors no good.

The GOSL is going to be undone because they are waging the war for an agenda that is really not in interest of the people of Sri Lanka.

Time and again, I have thought, that bombastic rhetoric does not go anywhere. Please, H. E. the President, think on your feet. There is widespread acceptance for you even if everyone in your cabinet are getting fatter by the day with commissions and graft. You have a stupid Foreign Minister and a bunch of jokers who cannot get their act together to mobilize masses to contribute aid to the IDP. On the one hand GOSL criticizes the UN and on the hand, the GOSL asks for aid from the UN. If they send their Chef to look into IDP affairs, then you have to let him come in to create a new soup for Sri Lanka.

It will be a real sad spectacle if GOSL has to go for a permanent ceasefire for Congress to win elections; for Hillary Clinton to pay back her backers; for Milliband and Kouchner to safeguard their vote base. So what our options, if the unthinkable happens?

One thing that we may realize is that a gay man could be the better option over an able bodied, muscle man with little brains. In todays world, it is better to go for mind games than fisticuffs. Sri Lanka could have saved the brains as well as the brawns!

Most of you folk will think that I am out of my mind to say this but my position is that if the President does not have guts to put the finishing touches then he may well abdicate for someone with balls to get the job done.

I think most Sri Lankans are prepared to starve to death to rid of this menace but then President downwards should show the same commitment and a single minded purpose. Let's starve for six months to get the country on the right track, starting with the end of LTTE!

They may be classified information. Have belief on the end of LTTE. Lets us appreciate what had done than find fault for not doing things. Again this is just my opinion. No hard feeling to anyone.
2) I have seen few guys rightly or wrongly disclosed their identity in this blog. That leaves the individual and more his/her near and dear once (mother, father, siblings, fiancée) at risk in the future. My opinion is that we got to remember this LTTE maniac is over.
3) But a Kingdom Search for Dravidian is far from over. So whether “Virtual Tamil Nation” leave Sri Lanka along or not is to be seen in the future.

Suresh, Take your self-serving one-sided arguments to TamilNET, where you will be in excellent company.

NOWHERE in the world has a terrorist organization, claiming to be the SOLE REPRESENTATIVE and SAVIOUR of its people, KILLED MORE of its OWN PEOPLE than the ENEMY, than the LTTE.

NOWHERE has a group claiming PERMANENT VICTIMHOOD for an innocent people, has been so MURDEROUS within its own country against all INNOCENTS, shooting, blowing up and hacking to death over 150,000 people, than the LTTE.

NOWHERE has a group been so BRAZENLY HYPOCRITICAL than the LTTE in stockpiling and deploying enormous quantities of the MOST LETHAL & DESTRUCTIVE WEAPONS of war on the one hand, complains about the use of WEAPONS TO COUNTER them to its enemy, than the LTTE.

Using catchy phrases such as “Nowhere in the world has a government been continuously bombing its own civilians for over a year." to demonize the GOSL DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE! GIVE IT UP!

We all know that the SLDF only bombed LTTE personnel and facilities. The building of LTTE bunkers within civilian buildings such as schools, hospitals, govt offices etc, and displaying killed LTTE cadre as civilians has now been TOTALLY EXPOSED as a standard LTTE strategy.

The Tamil HOSTAGES of the Wanni, and the world at large, NOW UNDERSTAND & ACCEPT BEYOND ANY DOUBT the TWO-FACED nature of the LTTE that takes its own people HOSTAGE and hides behind non-combatant women, children and old people using them as HUMAN SHIELDS.

The LTTE, and the SUPREME THALAIVAR Vellupillai Prabhakaran has EARNED itself a special place as the MOST MONSTROUS TERRORIST ORGANIZATION in the annals of human history.

Only the incurably disappointed Sri Lankan Tamil Diasporans, with a FINANCIAL STAKE in the survival of the LTTE, still weeps crocodile tears for them.

...........

Washburn69, brother,

I was trying to make the same estimate many moths ago, for the same purpose. In particular, I asked at DW "how many Sinhala Expatriates" are there? But, there was no response.

So, lets try some off-the-wall guess-estimating:

Sri Lankan Tamils:
United States - 100,000
United Kingdom - 100,000
Canada - 400,000
Autralia - 50,000
New Zealand - 10,000
Persian Gulf States - 50,000
EU (Excluding UK) - 100,000
Singapore - 5,000
Other - 85,000
TOTAL: 1,000,000

Sri Lankan non-Tamils:
United States - 250,000
United Kingdom - 125,000
Canada - 200,000
Autralia - 100,000
New Zealand - 20,000
Persian Gulf States - 500,000
EU (Excluding UK) - 150,000
Singapore - 5,000
Other - 50,000
TOTAL: 1,400,000

So, if each non-Tamil Sri Lankan invests 100$/mth = 1,200$/yr in Sri Lankan stocks, the total investment will be 1.6 $ billion/year. WoW!

If our Sri Lankan Tamil brothers and sisters join-in, the amount will zoom to 2.88 $ billion/year! Wow! WoW!

That, in combination with corporate and govt-to-govt investments not included in these sums, SHOULD BE ENOUGH to get the economic development we need going, to transform the economy of Sri Lanka within a DECADE.

Patriots...all over the world...please contribute your knowledge of the expatriate populations, and the affordability of the investment amount of 1,200 $/yr.

Yo! Asithri Bro, our investment wizard, can you help here?

Ananda bro, what do you think?

IDPs – Something we could do after attending to their immediate needs – let’s say in two or three week’s time:
Some of the funds raised, could be used to manufacture clothes locally - free clothes for the IDPs, whilst at the same time keeping the hard hit garment factories operational.

So that,
· 150K IDPs who lost all their belongings after being taken hostage by the LTTE will benefit.
· Sri Lankan garment factory workers and the local economy will be helped.
· Foreign journalists could visit the temporary IDP camps and see how we look after our own.

Bro, this is a good idea! I particularly like that both the local garment workers/economy AND the IDPs will be helped, directly.

I am willing to contribute financially, and help gain support for this in my community here!

We will have to make sure to package the clothes with "Gifted by your Sinhala Brothers and Sisters" in Tamil, Sinhala and English, as in "US Aid" labelling, to make sure the IDPs know where the help is coming from. We may also be able to get reduced prices donated by manufacturers in Sri Lanka.

Let us hear from the other Patriots at DW.

In doing those calculations it is imperative that you point out that the gains will be most impressive in the long term.
In my estimate it would require a minimum holding period of at least 10 yrs to build and grow a well diversified portfolio consisting of all asset classes as well.

This suggestin was made recently to the SLG, with the intention that they motivatethe private sector, who stands to benefit the most, to take the initiative to attract the investments. As usual it may be asking for too much from our govt, evn though they are good at fighting this war.

Guys

SLG has made it clear that they will not accept used clothes. THis is a good thing, to prevent acquiring foreign deseases.

Any used clothes you send may not reach the intended people. So check with your embassy to make sure they can deliver with some certainty.q

What makes you think starving will build a nation? Starving will only weaken and demoralize the nation. Instead what needs to be done is to attract investments into the country, increase efficiencies and productivity, inculcate research, attract expatriate talent and make the most of a very vibrant private sector for wealth creation.

All VERY do-able.
