Tough days for LTTE 'middle-management'

A team of Commandos from the Special Task Force acting on Military Intelligence this morning ambushed a group of 15 Tigers at Kotiyagala (Situated near general area Siyambalanduwa) along the Ampara-Monaragala border killing 13 and injuring another two who subsequently escaped.

The team was part of a 75-member unit deployed under LTTE leaders "Colonel" Ram and Nagulan operating from the general area Kanjikudiaru.

Meanwhile the former "Special Commander" of the Chalres Anthony Brigade Gobith and the last known "Special Commander" of the same unit, Amuthab have been killed in fighting at Ananthapuram, a village on the A-35 road.

"Colonel" Gobith once headed the famed Charles Anthony Unit and "Lt. Colonel" Pallavan functioned as his Deputy Commander until Pallavan and a team of 200 Charles Anthony cadres were surrounded and routed by the Special Forces and the 57 Division. "Lt. Colonel" Amuthab, who Military Intelligence says was similar in appearance to a westerner then replaced Pallavan and subsequently Gobith until both of them were routed on the same day at Ananthapuram.

Canadian Tiger;

Just wait for the riots in the south to kick in.

What riots? You mean South India? That will bring a sure genocide to TN tamils if they start rioting there.

The economy isn't going to hold on,

As per diaspora like Navindran, there can't be any economy left in SL. It has fallen, crushed and crumbled. Whoa.

As a matter of fact, SL economy has been running i its current state for the eons that we knew it.

and now the Sri Lankan government's recklessness has been exposed to the world by the Tamil Diaspora.

I believe that, in the contrary, SL govt has exposed the ruthlessness of Tiger support base of diaspora and they are being persecuted.

It's just a matter of time before it all turns around.

The matter is that this time does not come. You guys waited for it from Mavil Aru times. And even now some of you still think that 1000 ragged terrorists, 5000 forced school kids and 75000 hungry civilians can turn around the tables from ~20 sqkm land given in the mercy of GOSL. Day dreaming is not suitable enough for you.

To you Sinhala extremists continue cheering on your military on its short-term fictitious ‘military’ gains, continue to believe Colombo’s fairy tales,

Prove what part is fictitious.

but realize that the birth of Tamil Eelam is just around the corner,

I will never come. It has always been around the corner of your incest ruthless minds. So will it be till you die. But in reality it has been eliminated from SL. Mere proceedings await.

and We Will get the last Laugh!

Yeah a never ending last laugh in a Toronto Mental Asylum.

All the best.

It's good if we can get some terras to surrender, but in the mean time, what's the role the SF can play in the NFZ? Is an infiltration possible to take out the key ltte leaders? I'm sure we can get some help from civilians and ltte who are sick of ltte now!

DW,
As the LTTE areas dwindle away obviously the options of the LTTE is limited. Along with that, SLDF opitions too are not very many mainly because of the civilian factor. Any direct assult on the LTTE is bound to have a very high civilian casualty rate.

One option is to futher enhance PSY OPS. Get the civilians to rebel against LTTE. Even with arms, 2000 LTTE caders can not control a force of 50000 focused civilians. The LTTE outer rings lack leadership and purpose. They are demoralised. This situation should be capitalised to our advantage.

Psy ops should be aimed at.

1. Showing Civilians in the no fire zone the freedom and treatment those who escaped the clutches of the LTTE enjoy. These should be innovative, informative and effective.

2. Distancing Civilans in the Safe zone, from the LTTE. Showing that the SLDF is not what it used to be. That it is a disciplined trained force with regard to human rights.

3. Getting Civilians to question whether there is a purpose for their suffering whilst diasspora has cozy life in the west.

4. Making the civilians turn around and directly question the LTTE.

5. Giving them simple tips to organise themselves against the LTTE.

6. Aim the outer circle of the LTTE to abandon arms and try and escape and surrender or to defect.
7.Let them get to know the defeats of the LTTE. This should be illustrative and comprehensive. (Just like the Army lower ranks do not know SLDF casulaties the LTTE caders should be unaware of theirs)
Let them know that it is going to be a waste of their lives. There will be no meaning to their death unlike a SLDF death because at the end the LTTE will be crushed.

Air dropping leaflets, word of mouth through moles within the area and other methods can be used.

Continous effective propaganda has turned around resutls of battles through out the world. We need to use this so that the LTTE could be dismantled with effort of the Tamil civilians who want their freedom. This would be their new freedom struggle.

Let the remaining LTTE be dismantled by it self and the very people it claims to represent (In fact keep hostage)

I hope this is seen by the relevent ranks.

On Sri Lanka, UN's Ban Drops Call for Suspension of Fighting, Vague on Aerial Bombing

Byline: Matthew Russell Lee of Inner City Press at the UN: News Analysis

UNITED NATIONS, April 3 -- Weeks after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for a suspension of fighting in Sri Lanka, his Office's follow-up statement on April 3 omitted the request. Rather, apparently implementing the UN's new strategy of putting more pressure on the Tamil Tiger rebels than the government, Ban's Associate Spokesman Farhan Haq read out a statement that the Tamil Tigers are violating international humanitarian law, while the government is merely "reminded of its obligations."

Inner City Press asked, what happened to the call for a suspension of fighting? Video here, from Minute 15:45. Mr. Haq pointed to the statement he had just read out, which did not refer to a suspension of cessation of fighting, much less to a ceasefire. When Inner City Press first asked Ban about the killing in Sri Lanka, Ban said he could not call for a ceasefire because Sri Lanka was not on the Security Council's agenda.

After then-President of the Council Yukio Takasu told Inner City Press that Ban's statement is not what the UN Charter says, Ban called for a suspension of fighting. But Sri Lanka's president has said he will not give in to international pressure and that the fighting will continue. Inner City Press asked for a reply from Ban, but none was given. Then on April 3 there issued a prepared statement omitting any call for a suspension of fighting.

Ban Ki-moon in car on phone, call for suspension of fighting not shown

Ironically, Haq then read out a statement by the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs which described "aerial bombing of the No-Fire Zone" in northern Sri Lanka. Particularly given the reports that the Tamil Tigers' rag-tag air force has been destroyed, to say "aerial bombing" is to say "Sri Lankan government," but to omit saying those words. Why? To jibe with Ban's new strategy of accusing the Tigers of law-breaking and merely reminding the government of obligations?

A senior UN official has told Inner City Press that this is the UN's strategy, since the government of Sri Lanka has so openly ignored Ban's calls: to pressure instead the Tamil Tigers and their supporters overseas, threatening prosecutions, and to "lay off" the government. Given the number of deaths that have been caused by shelling and aerial bombing by the government, to "lay off" is to be complicit.

Click here for a new YouTube video, mostly UN Headquarters footage, about civilian deaths in Sri Lanka.

There are not more than 600-700 hardcore LTTe left. Along with auxilliaries, they may add upto abt 2000.

The numbers of civillians under the direct control of the LTTE has shrunk to around 10,000, while there are at least a total 20,000 only in the no-fire area.

THere are deals being worked out with LTTE insiders to surrender, if Velu's head is delivered on a stick.

Everything is on the table. Cash, freedom from prosecution, even a political appointment..and then there's the all important; Or Else..!

Even if we pay this amount as a fee to "Rajapaksa Company" for "eliminating LTTE terrorism" from Sri Lanka, it is well over worth it. If I had money, and if I can pay $500 million to eliminate LTTE, I will happily make that investment. It is a great investment and a BARGAIN!!! In fact the return that Sri Lanka would gain from LTTE cancer would be much much more than $500M. So, $37M is peanuts compared to the return!!]

Even today some of the more sharper minds in the Tamil diaspora are lamenting over this “colossal mistake.”

Evidently (based on my inside info, also not dissimilar what I get from my “eastern beauty” and her connections) there was a segment of the Diaspora in favor of RW stepping into Presidency and another vehemently against (as their belief was Tamils must not vote in a SL elections when they are agitating for separatism), and as we know the “against” won)…and the rest is history.

Anyone who says LTTE MFs helped MR over RW…well it is true, but LTTE just boycotted elections – period. They did it not because they loved MR over RW, but for above reason.

I know most people are away of the dubious role played by the Catholic Church with regards to the LTTE, but this is appalling...

From the Daily Mirror...

Shocking story of forcible recruitment

A group of parents who came to the military on March 27 had revealed a shocking story about a Catholic priest, who was living among them in the 'no fire zone' in Puthumatalan, and helped the Tamil Tigers to forcibly recruit more than 550 underage children.

According to a mother (whose name cannot be revealed due to security reasons) parents of some 600 children had sent their children to a church located in Walayarmadam, just south of Puthumatalan in order to protect them from the LTTE's continuing forcible recruitment of underage children and teenagers.

The priest had promised the parents that he would not allow the LTTE to take their children and would take care of them. But on March 24, a large group of LTTE cadres, most of them female cadres had appeared in the area. Soon the parents, who were in the vicinity, had informed the priest about the LTTE’s arrival.

But,he had told the parents to let them come as he would not allow them to take the children away. However when the LTTE cadres entered the premises and ordered the children to go with them the priest had disappeared from the location, leaving the LTTE to do whatever they want.

Several teenagers in the church had tried to attack the LTTE cadres, but some 550 children were forcibly taken away by the Tigers in vehicles. Some fifty teenagers had been able to run away and save their life. Most of the parents had started to attack the LTTE cadres, who in turn had brutally assaulted the parents.

One of the grandmothers, who spoke to the Daily Mirror over the phone, said that she was able to save her 17-year-old grandson after she dragged away one of the female LTTE cadres who tried to capture her grandson. Using the opportunity, the grandson had run away and now the entire family had come to the cleared area.

“The life in the area is like living in hell, the priest is openly helping the LTTE to recruit youth, in the night the priest in LTTE uniform used to go with other LTTE cadres to forcibly recruit youth,” the grieving mother revealed.

She also said that most of those parents are still at the church awaiting the return of their sons and daughters, though they had a chance to escape to the cleared areas.

LTTE out of space, but GOSL needs to do more.

We have known for some time that the LTTE has nowhere to run and nowhere to hide. However, there were sections of the media and some analysts suggesting the LTTE will resort to guerilla warfare. My response has been that that option is not one the LTTE has had for past year either. Indeed, it is this very deep penetration tactic by the GOSL that has cost the LTTE its territory, as it has allowed the SLA to dominate the barbaric outfit in every space on land. With the SLN dominating them in the shallow waters in addition to deep water, and the SLAF dominating the air, the LTTE has lost, and with all the mythology of its prowess.

The only remaining means is the barbaric bombings of soft targets by brainwashed homicide bombers.
However, as even homicide bombers need to be activated, the lost command and control (something the LTTE never expected to lose) functions in the Vanni means a decline in this last resort of barbarism.

Now in this overall success of the GOSL, I must say I have been a bit underwhelmed by the recent tactics of the SLA, even though the long range sniper is an excellent means, provided they are properly equipped to effective night and day. The sniper is extremely useful when removing the leaders of the LTTE, and when he does not allow the LTTE rest thus degrading their effectiveness.

There are other area I would like to see the SLA-SLN-SLAF action.

I would like to see greater use of naval craft backed by the Mi 24/35s closer to shore to remove the LTTE threat completely. It is also important the forces dominate the lagoons--both of them.

The lagoons should be used to inflict damage to shore based LTTE assets and also to remove refugees when the chance is there. I think the SLA possesses landing craft. These must be used with proper preparation, though part of that preparation must include simultaneous threats of landing, while the actual landings take place on the safer beaches. This will force the LTTE to spread their remaining forces to police the people, and thus make them vulnerable both to civilian revolt and to Special Forces.

I hope I have not said too much, as these are obvious tactics, and besides, the LTTE cannot do anything to counter them. In fact the more threats they have to prepare for, the more stretched out they will be.

Re. “Jay” to OaOA

[However, my request is to refrain from castigating anyone until proven guilty]

Mate, there is really nothing such as “until proven guilty” here.

All what I have seen from this undercover Tamil Nationalist (aka Tamil racist) in this blog is his writing about corruption of the present MR GOSL – as if he himself has done research and come up with proof.

His pet peeve is how much money “Rajapakse Brothers” have made and it was to one such post that you yourself responded earlier, basically saying if such corruption charges are true, then so be it as it is indeed a paltry sum we Sri Lankans have expended in eradicating our beloved Motherlanka of LTTE terrorism.

If you re-read my post you will see that I am not accusing him of being a LTTE agent, but rather a Tamil racist who is out to discredit this GOSL that has done what no other GOSL hitherto has been able to accomplish – in military, politico, and diplomatic spheres to eradicate the LTTE.

What we need to keep in mind is there are lots of rich Colombo Tamils who always supported the UNP regime and even now there are many such well-established Tamils in the Diaspora who openly say that the war may be over for now, but as soon as the next UNP GOSL comes (they fervently hope under RW), they will agitate and get what they want nevertheless. They say yes, it many not be called “thamileelam” but the end result will be the same and the beauty of it is, they hope to get it without firing a single bullet. This is not my imagination, but first hand account of what I have heard in my wide travels.

What they have started doing from now on is to spread malicious lies about this MR GOSL so that they can sow the seeds of hatred against this regime (hinged on baseless corruption allegations) and thereby help usher in a RW-Ponna UNP regime with as minimum delay as possible to achieve their goal.

Additionally, what do you think the morale of the fighting forces will be if such malicious lies are allowed to widely permeate in Sri Lanka? Don’t you see the results of such having a direct and disastrous impact on maintaining the success of this military campaign? This is not to say that there is no corruption in this GOSL (which GOSL did not have corruption for that matter), but to say that such exists to a colossal extent (as stated by this Cocksucker), without producing evidence, is highly suspect vis-à-vis the motive is concerned. No, I am no stranger to these double-dealing, highly conniving, insidious characters as I (meaning my family) did once mingle with them growing up in Colombo. Their ghetto mentality was there at that time and sadly, many still have it to the point of being rabid about it.

Mate, I too have the highest respect for your undying passion re. our Motherland and I have seen that manifestation over the years that I have known you in this blog and elsewhere. However, please try to see why I react to these “fifth column” Cocksuckers the way I do…I am not asking you to agree with me, but only to entertain the possibility of what I am saying.

In my view, the time is long past now that we would fall victim to these insidious characters’ ploys…now is the time to be merciless and be resolute in our saying “Never Again”…!!!

Cheers,

There is a an 'article' on Tamilnet about a Sinhala mob attacking a peaceful 'Eezam' Tamil rally.
Nothing could be further from the truth. There was a peaceful Sri Lankan rally protesting against LTTE holding human shields. Some provocative LTTE thugs came around with a tiger flag and some banners. This was the start of the whole problem. The tiger-supporters were arrested because they were specifically instructed to stay away from this area.
Also the Tamilnet article shows a windscreen smashed in. This video shows the windscreen intact. I hope the thugs get caught for insurance fraud as well.

Catholic Church, an ally of Tamil Tiger terrorists

http://www.srilankaguardian.org/2009/04/catholic-church-ally-of-tamil-tiger.html

-----------------
Some time ago when I raised the issue of Catholic Silence, lot of people said not to talk about it as it would cause grief to the Catholics who are patriotic. I went silent because of that. But now Guardian has written a piece on this. Why should WE be silent about the Catholic church who are big time supporting LTTE.
When we killed Tamils in '83 people can criticise us. The same way when Catholic church support LTTE we should be able to criticise them. We should not be silent because we will heart some Patriots. This kind of Silence are the cause of lot of problems. We should not worry about criticising any entity who are supporters of Terrorism (It should not matter what religious group or ethnicity they are).
Hopefully Sri Lankan Catholic Patriots would raise their voices hard and strong against this type of support by the Church it would be good. It cannot allow LTTE supporters to work as Catholic Priest. Being silent is not good enough for Catholic Sri Lankan patriots.

Check it out brothers. SF, the grand master, has announced that plans drawn and finalized to rescued the Tamil civilians taken hostage by the LTTE.

I wish him and his comrades luck, in managing the biggest terrorist hostage taking ever. When this is done winning hearts and minds of Tamil people does not need any further assurances or going beyond 13th amendment as some pundits say.

Patriots,

It was an amazing effort by all Melbourne Sri Lankans. Tremendous crowd was gathered to protest against LTTE brutalisam and force them to release civilians from their clutches.

Thank you for the tremendous support you have offered to make this event success.

I am thanking you all on behalf of the organizing committee.

Thanks

It was good until we got rattled by the LTTE Supporters.
Just saw a utube video from Sri Lanka U Tube. It was obvious that they came to get a reaction from the Sri Lankan crowd. They got what they want and the police came and disperse the Sri Lankan demonstrators. One thing is sure, we have not learnt from the 83 problems. We still can't control our anger and end up doing stupid things and then get bad reputation. Not sure how we should react to this kind of behaviour, but please SL, use your brain a bit before you start acting (at least when others are watching)

Marcus,

/Why can't we use loud speakers directed to NFZ from liberated areas to deliver the psy ops messages? Keep reminding the LTTE carders that there is no where to go other than surrender./

Yes, our troups are doing that.

One more thing about Melbourne Sri Lankan Rally.

The cars that came in, when they were being surrounded by the SL crowd did not seem to care. Therefore it is obvious that they wanted to get attacked. This is what LTTE pulled in '83. I think the crowd didn't reacted that bad, but it was bad enough, and the police came and dispersed the crowd.
Therefore we must learn from this, Some Tamils will continue to provoke Sinhalese so as to get a reaction, which they can use against us. This will continue to happen even after we defeat LTTE. Therefore people should make the SL community aware of this and publish an article regarding this.
I saw TamilNet was quick to publish an article condemning our behaviour. So everyone should take note. It seem like we still have not learnt.

LTTP is now having breathing difficulties from chronic asthma which it is suffering. Conditions are getting worse due to acute diabetes and diarrhoea. Expert opinion from the medical staff employed by Vesapille has given only two more weeks the most.

SLA medical staff has given even lesser time irrespective to the conditions put up by hypocratic UN.

You have no idea about Lt.G Sarath Fonseka. I like when he says somthing like that. Then we know we are in for a huge suprise. He is 1 in a Million battle planer. Ex: you see, out of no where he has created 3 entry points for the No fire Zone(Chalai front, Puthukudirppu front, Mullaitive).

Here it Comes...The Rats Fleeing the Sinking Peelam Out To Tamil Nadu!

LTTE moves to shift out

According to reliable sources many friendly countries like India and Malaysia are on alert that family members of the top rung Tiger leaders have escaped to their countries and the LTTE is in the process of sending the family members of other top rung Tiger cadres into India.

Therefore, the intelligence analysts indicate that the LTTE is in the process of shifting their well trained cadres into Indian soil to operate from there once their last bid to survive in Sri Lanka failed

Strong indications are there that LTTE is going to operate outside Sri Lanka for its next stage of Eelam War once they are defeated in the Sri Lankan soil.

First they have to fight with the LTTE and defeat them inside the No-Fire-Zone. Secondly they have to rescue the civilians trapped inside this terrain with zero or minimum casualties among civilians.

A group of around 50 Sinhala expatriates, some of them allegedly inebriated, attacked a car-rally demonstration organised by the Eezham Tamil diaspora in Melbourne Saturday noon protesting genocide of their kith and kin in the island of Sri Lanka and demanding immediate end of the war waged by Colombo government. A few Eezham Tamils were injured and their cars were damaged in the attack. One of the attackers also reportedly got injured in the melee.

If true..this is the best harvest we got during the "Wanni cultivation"

I got a piece of news that some of them were killed during rescue operation.

- Amuthab was initially wounded but that time all the resources were allocated to evacuate wounded Charles Anthony to NFZ. By the time they tried to get back Amuthab, he was scummbed to wounds while a short range "missile" (as they called) fired by a SF team kissed Gopith.

- When the news of these deathts spread to NFZ, SLA expecting an uncontrolled uprising and possible defecting shortly (if not hours porbably in 1-2 days).

- Many SF and Commando teams with heavy fire-power (including soem recently aquired "new pieces") were behind the enemey line just to target fleeing leaders and back-up carders.

Sri Lanka military says 25-year war in final act
Sun Apr 5, 2009 12:27pm BST Email | Print | Share | Single Page [-] Text [+]

By C. Bryson Hull

COLOMBO (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's military said on Sunday troops had confined the Tamil Tiger rebels to a no-fire zone, where the last act of the 25-year separatist war will play out with tens of thousands of civilians still trapped.

Three separate units killed at least 420 rebels after surrounding them in a triangle-shaped single square kilometre (0.5 square mile) during a three-day battle, the military said.

That means the remaining rebel-held area is less than 20 square km (8 sq miles) of coconut groves on the Indian Ocean island's northeast coast where the United Nations has said the Tigers have kept more than 100,000 civilians as human shields.

"The only uncleared area left is the no-fire zone," military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said. "We have recovered over 420 bodies over the last three days."

Troops confirmed they had killed the head security officer for Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) founder and leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran, Gaddhafi; the head of the LTTE's female fighters, Vidusha, and commander Theepan.

And there were signs the elusive Prabhakaran was near: soldiers found a bullet-proof car he was believed to have been using which was torched. The state-owned Sunday Observer newspaper said troops found his birth certificate and photo albums.

The Tigers could not be reached for immediate comment and it is difficult to verify casualty figures given by either side since independent observers are generally barred from the war zone and both sides have been known to distort them.

SIEGE TO START

The arrival of troops at the no-fire zone signals the beginning of what diplomats and aid agencies say will be the most difficult and possibly deadly phase of a military campaign that has in less than three years put the Tigers near conventional defeat.

The best choice, diplomats say, is besieging the area, since it would offer the most protection for civilians there.

Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Gotababya Rajapaksa, the top civilian in charge of the war, told Reuters soldiers would be in no hurry, especially since intelligence reports show dissension against the LTTE brewing in the area.

"Time is not a factor here. Our major concern is to get these civilians out of the LTTE-controlled area. Very soon, you will see a lot of civilians coming out and making the task of the military easier," he said.

At least 62,100 people have fled from Tiger-held areas since the start of the year, and about half that number since the army neared the no-fire zone. That is despite the Tigers shooting at them, according to those who have escaped.

The Tigers, Human Rights Watch and the United Nations have all accused the military of shelling civilian areas, which the government denies as a propaganda ploy to try and build international pressure for a truce so the LTTE can re-arm.

Sri Lanka's military has swiftly done what had, over the course of a war that started in 1983, become thought of as an impossible task -- recapturing nearly all of the 15,000 square km held by the Tigers in the island's north and east.

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has vowed the LTTE will either surrender or be destroyed.

The Tigers have so far refused to give up their fight for an independent state for Sri Lanka'a minority Tamils, who complain of discrimination by successive governments led by the Sinhalese majority since independence from Britain in 1948.
