58 Division troops are now 2kms south of EPS. Tigers are positioned along the former forward defence line constructed by the EPS' 54 Division. This FDL is where Hasalaka Gamini Kularatne gave his life in heroic fashion.
58 Division troops, somewhat fatigued by recent exploits into Kilinochchi will probably take some time to retake the area. Further north the Mech Infantry, formerly under Ralph Nugera, is awaiting orders to march under Udaya Herath, Nugera's deputy.
Meanwhile sources indicated that the LTTE maybe constructing another bund at Murusamodai, 10km east of Paranthan. Tigers have moved around 1000 cadres from Kilinochchi to Mulaitivu. Air strikes, MBRL and artillery strikes were launched on identified gathering points to eliminate the build up.
Heavy LTTE mortar and artillery strikes are being launched from this area for the last 10 days. An artillery barrage also fell on Kilinochchi town today. Despite these developments no clear strategy has emerged from the LTTE's side.
The SLA also captured the Iranamadu tank bund today. They recovered 8 bodies of soldiers declared missing in recent confrontations in this area. A large number of LTTE bodies recovered from various places in this fashion were all buried.
A contingent of 15 SBS and RABS units were deployed at Nayaru today to help end any sea tiger infiltrations. The contingent will increase to about 25 boats or 75 SBS/RABS men in due course.

Methinks that brothers last-mile, sithsala and Sujeewa would be able to oblige us.
Certainly there have been few who always quarrel for no practical reason. Also they make many faulty statements that either directly or indirectly supports Pussycats. For an ex the statement of "discrimination in SL" made by ReallyCold.
But I would not like to brand them as pussycats as I have seen ppl who support SL, still making such statements for various "innocent" reasons. However having a fanfare of such lads at once and the fact they get lined up to shoot a man who argue against pussycats is not only suspicious but also threatening the integrity here.
Nevertheless I still leave them to change their stance and would not classify them as pussycats. Not that they have cleared my doubts but just that I give them benefit of the doubt.
Actually I have been trying to be void of words and person, but take the idea. If you go by idea only, Asithri has one motive and it is clearly relevant to this blog. Some of the lads who take on him show no relevance to the main topic and drag on the discussion towards the heap of garbage. This is what I tried to clarify.
Apart from that I have no particular reason to praise Asithri. His rate of detection is also not 100% and sometimes he picks the wrong guy, but that is how life is. In the end of the day if everyone leaves him alone and keep on talking about their own ideas, it would have been better. The entire community will correct Asithri when he shoots the worng one [If you rem the case of Rana].

I cannot take your re-definition of SLDF for UN peace keeping as fitting. First of all UN operations are not business. There are no such big amount of operations to occupy most of 250k SLDF. On the other hand they will not be allowed as UN does not like to bias peace keepers to one nation.
What is left is to fight for Nato, US, Israel. I'm sure they'll be paid a lot. I'm sure some Ex-SLDF would take up the offer if it is available. But this type of war will be very harsh and the lives will be measured in $$. They will be pushed to risky places where outsourcer originally fails. It was very dis-heartening to see someone called a patriot saying so.
Imagine what would SLDF feel if they see your statement. SLDF has been sacrificing their lives for the nation. And if they bring us victory, someone in the patriot side thinks that they will become a burden, and either sell them [by order] to fight for other crazy battles elsewhere or take away their job.
I felt very filthy about that mindset.

BTW, what I meant was, "if there is a suspicion that someone is an enemy on the blog, do not rule out the possibility that they would come back as another avatar". Last-mile would be able to point them out. It's nothing personal, just blog security and security for future contact between blog-patriots.
WRT, SLDF. Again I whole heartedly agree. You may have read Anada_USA's and my commnets on the matter of SLDF. Both of us believe that SLDF need to be beefed up further.
Our aims for the returning heroes should be to treat them regally. They should be given opportunities for career development via the Defence Academy/University. Any children or siblings/their children of soldiers who sacrificed themselves should be given automatic scholarships to that institution. They have done their duty. They should be now training the next generation of defenders who should be trained at the Defence Academy from the start with a future career in mind. That is just one way of looking after the Defence Personnel.

This is the funniest part in the message. It most certainly is worthwhile for giving credit to Pre-Wickramadonky UNP who made the fair share of sacrifices like Gamini, Lalith, and Ranjan. However, I am at loss in comprehending the current UNP's claim to this victory. Monkeys like Ranil W, Lakshman K, Vajira A. Jayalath J. took every opportunity to ridicule our previous gains. Also, they tried to demoralize our men and women at every corner. Even today, Ranil Wickramasinghe belittles regaining Kilinochchi. Battle progress looks really good in all fronts. I heard that many pussycats were stranded in Jaffna P'sula. I don't think cats get stranded in P'sula as they have number of options to retreat through Chunikkulam.
Cats are there to delay forward march of 55 and 53 as long as they can. However, TF1's march from EP to north will make them retreat to mainland via Chunikkulam and lagoon.
On Mulative front:
Div 59 and TF4 must go to Puthukkudiyiruppu and surround Mulative from north.
Capturing east coast even partly will help SLDF immensely to prevent two most important aspects of the war;
1. Stop arms and ammo supply.
2. Prevent LTTP leadership getting away.
Entire leadership must be eliminated before we stop offensives.

Actually SF played a major role saving Jaffna after EP debacle. SF and JP sent to Jaffna after EP episode. He was the Jaffna commander while JP was the Wanni Commander. SF played a major role there on the front line in stopping the LTTE from taking Jaffna.
Even before that, he successfully led the troops in operation to rescue 100's of soldiers trapped in Jaffna Fort (Gota too participated). He has played some role in every major operation. Injured twice before the suicide attack. It is unfortunate that the dogs began howling at him even before he completely finishes the war.

Dear Mr. Raman,
Before I ask you any questions, I would like to congratulate you on your recent book "THE KAOBOYS OF RANDAW: Down Memory Lane" by Lancer Publishers. As the only insiders account of the RAW available to the general public, your book makes interesting reading.
Also, before I pose my question, I would like to take issue with you on a minor point in your recent article where you compare the jubilation on the streets of Colombo following the fall of Killinochchi to the event surrounding the toppling of Saddam Hussein's statute. We now know that the event in Iraq was not a spontaneous event and that it was stage managed by a US Army psyops team. In the Iraq event people were bused more than 100km and paid to participate.
My question to you is as follows:
Do you think India's creation of the Mukti Bhani and thereby the creation of Bangladesh, and India's creation of armed Tamil militant groups in Sri Lanka are the two biggest strategic blunders committed by post-independent India.
I draw a parallel between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka for the following reasons. In Bangladesh and in Sri Lanka, India has created neighbors that intensely dislike and are hostile to India. There are daily clashes between Bangladesh Riffles personnel and India's Border Security Force personnel. By official Indian accounts, the insurgents in North East India like the ULFA are sheltered in Bangladesh and supported by Bangladesh officialdom. Three months ago devastating bomb blasts in Guwahati, Assam killed more people than the Mumbai blasts.
I believe a similar parallel can be drawn with regard to India's relationship with Sri Lanka. Before the IPKF came to Sri Lanka, the Standing Orders of the post-independent Sri Lanka Army was to hold off any enemy invasion for 24 hours until Indian assistance arrived. Today, given what has transpired in the last three decades, I cannot imagine that any current or future Sri Lanka government will agree to a Indian military presence under any circumstances even if the country faces a foreign or domestic threat. While Sri Lanka is unlike Bangladesh in that there will be no cross-border attacks on India instigated by Sri Lanka, no harboring of anti-India insurgents in Sri Lanka or no border conflicts instigated by border security entities of the Sri Lanka Government for reasons that are obvious, it is very likely that future governments of Sri Lanka will strive to keep India at arms length, and will look upon India with deep mistrust in all matters concerning Sri Lanka.

capturing para, kili, oddu, EPS, etc. is good but i see them only as ENABLERS of reaping a high HARVEST.
but it now looks like we are ONLY intent on capturing places than harvesting.

2. actually a tactical withdrawel
if it is 1, we need not pursue the matter. if it is 2, we are in shitt.
when sakkiliyas attacked EPS in april 2000, we tactically withdrew. had we not withdrawn, our casualties would have been many times more.
the same applies to LTTE in kili, EPS, etc. MORE tigers had escaped than DIED.
what one sakkiliya said about kili is true. (asithri and others please don't jump the gun and call me a MF, etc.)
LTTE DID manage to get away with men and material. PLUS machines. by taking over strategically important places, we are trying to block the 4th M - which is methods. but even i could think of many avenues of escape/attack/sabotage for tigers.

look at 1998, 1999, 2000.
in each seperate battle we lost MUCH less than 1,500 (MAX). this is a negligible % of our SLDFs. but we lost hard earned victories.
this CAN happen again UNLESS we start agressively HARVESTING.
IMHO, we have gained enough strategic advantages when we get EPS. thereafter we should fully concentrate on harvesting. closing the eastern coast is allowed as it can affect LTTE's 4Ms.
actually LTTE must be regrouping in the jungles now. this is a good time to harvest them. we should get them AT OUR CONVEINIENT TIME.

I also like to hope so. But I think, mechanism in SLA mostly depend on the chief and other commanders appointed by the chief, rather than mechanism itself. I think its difficult to military organization to depend on mechanism itself irrespective of the leader. Well, MR/GR will probably appoint the right guy. The risk SLA has is (karumeta) say, UNP comes and appoint some sissy... How to harvest if they run instead of fighting? Only way you have to go closer and kill. LTTE will vacate Mullathiv also soon, after EPS, NMK.

Wait until the developmnt programs hit the grass roots levels in the liberated areas. When the economic activity takes off, the tiger pussies will have a hard time keeping the starving miserables under their guns in one place, held as human shields. When the kids of those who settled down in liberated areas have access to good schools and the others' don't, all arguments will lose validity. The LTTE has a whole lot of things stacked against them, and whether they like it or not, the unsatisfied priorities of their human shields will add to that list.
While I can undrstand the pro-tiger media's slant, the comments by the opposition's wonkies and pussies take the cake.

Your questions Raman are quite interesting, in light of the part regarding how Indian assistance was to be waited upon, in case of a foreign invasion.
That could take a while.
See, the Indians couldn't get to India from India when foreigners were killing Indians like rats in India, a couple of months ago. When they finally arrived, the Indians were clueless as to what to do. It took 72 hours of slpeeless combat and fatigue of the attackers to factor in their defeat and death.
In case of a foreign invasion, India would do much better to seek help from Sri Lanka instead. We would've made toast outa those Paki-pakayas in 5-6 hours tops.

the answer lies in our battle plans (operational ones).
1. we plan to chase them away so that our troops need not face continued fights WITHIN kili, etc.
this has to change a LITTLE bit. we should attack their ESCAPE ROUTES. we have the range and we KNEW very well when they vacated.
2. start bombing LTTE gathering places. ok; SLAF has started doing it already (re - gringo's post), but we need to increase this.
i have been crying for CAS and AS from SLAF. i got it. but at the expense of SLAF's dep attacks.
if you analyse SLAf attacks, say a year ago, MOST attacks were AWAY from battle fronts in mula, kili, vishwamadu, etc.
it is ok to concentrate on CAS, AS, but now we should AGAIN slowly shift our attention to HARVESTING.
i'm not contradicting myself. what i say is SLAf did a fantastic job in CAS/AS, now lets again get into the HARVESTING mode.
3. deep space HARVESTING missions have reduced drastically.
you can say they are happening at the same level but unreported. not true. bcos LTTE will do their best to put pix of civilians or tigers in civilian cloths when these happen. now there is almost total silence of them. even other sources didn't report.
this was due to our CONCENRATED efforts in capturing STRATEGIC locations. fine! lets continue AGAIN.
4. we can trap hundreds of tigers from EPS to nagark NOW if we extend our reach a bit eastward from paranthan. even without that we can harvest them bcos we have the reach. what we need is intel and the need to harvest.
5. capturing kili, tharmapuram, mula are actually good HARVESTING moves bcos these places have MASSIVE hospitals.
so tharmapuram, mula should be next. but looks not likely.
also we can stop tigers converting small hospitals into big ones just to cater to injured tigers. we can't be too soft on this.
can we discuss how to maximise the harvest???????
harvesting will decide the outcome of the war more than anything else, me thinks.

Most probably this may be my last post in this forum. First I would like to share the joy of our victories over LTTE evilness. Even though still there is some distance to go to complete the military victory it is almost impossible for LTTE to reverse the trend. So, we may presume that the war has being already won.
When the military war ends the ‘spiritual’ war starts. (I am not religious in any sense so I did use the word ‘spiritual’ metaphorical way not in any religious sense.) This spiritual war includes cleaning ourselves from all forms of hidden (sometimes we are not aware that our thoughts are racial etc.) and open racist attitudes basing ourselves on the value that our ancestry, ethnicity, colour, creed or our occupation has no relevance for our value as human beings. Only our deeds, way of expressing ourselves (regardless how the other people have chosen to express or act.) and our values, humbleness and compassion will determine who we are. We will forgive ourselves and others for if it happens that we slip from our standards momentarily. We always strive to uphold our values.)
I have posted here also in the handle “Purely Speculative But could be True” for a strategic reason determined by the subject in the post. It was a speculation I used to show that how futile is to presume one’s real identity through the posting material other than evaluating the ideas in the posts.
Even though I consider myself as a world citizen, I have special place in my heart as I have for my Mother. After the war real war begins in Sri Lanka; war against cultural, religious and ethnic disharmonious attitudes, war against corruption, war against underworld and drugs, war against corrupted politics and politicians. You need to understand the drastic need the pro-ltte lobby has, to cause a panic among the majority, to try and contain the recruitment drives. News and rumors of large numbers of casualties are intended to cause massive desertions from the ranks.
Howeveer, unlike before the soldiers writing and calling home are telling their people of how things really are like. Of course there are casualties, but nothing like what we used to have, and even when they do occur, for a good cause and get results.
Death and injury are a part of war, but the numbers are incomparable. We'll never know the LTTe deaths in total, since a lot are being silently buried or incinerated. The intensity of the assault leaves no one untouched in the areas under attack by the SLDF.
Compared to past conflicts, this one has been a professional hit job.

Well said mate. If you read pro-LTTE blogs its hard to believe some tamils really think GSL/ SLA/ sinhalese are waiting to kill those tamils in wanni and LTTE/ VP are saving them. (I think this is genuine, as they were talking among themselves.) Some (majority) still live with bad memories of 83 they brought with them when they left SL.

Thanks for asking and the complement.
Idea of participating in a blog is two fold; “learn and share” and finds happiness (Rana once somewhat accurately termed this second aspect as satisfying one’s ego). You find happiness by learning from others and being able to share your thoughts and influence others. This is a noble way of being egoistic; some other ways are being a dedicated doctor, teacher etc. If I do not find joy in sharing my ideas with you it will be hard for me to believe that you would like to listen to me.
Even though I always ponder about military matters I choose to use little time available to me to put my thoughts about general issues associated with the war. When I was doing that I found that I needed a lot of time. My posts contained lot of typos. One needs to be respectful for its audience. That respect is trying to be accurate if you can.
I found that I have little time to maintain my lengthy arguments and these errors irk me to the tilt. To really share your thoughts, you need to build up Socratic type discussions, getting the answers from your listeners themselves. Unfortunately I do not have time to do this.
I would like to mention whether we should consider sacrifice of life by an LTTE carder to be noble. My simple answer is NO but I reached this conclusion only after complex array of argument.
To lay your life for a cause requires one to be very cautious since laying your life for a cause may almost certainly mean that you may take many many lives for the same cause. Even though for LTTE carders in 1980, true information was not available to understand so called “the cause”, now it is almost impossible to think any right minded person would think this as a valid cause. If they fight for LTTE because of fear of LTTE then it is not a noble sacrifice just a strategy of survival. Hence the answer is NO whatever the motivation whether the motivation comes from fear or the cause. On other hand LTTERs who sacrificed their lives in early 1980 I consider them to be noble even though now I do not agree with their cause.
Any Sri Lankan soldier who fights to bring liberation to people I consider to be noble and I envy and respect them. See how long it takes to consider an issue. I simply do not have the time, but I may occasionally post if I see something interesting. Even then this blog may not have relevance in a few weeks time. That is why I thought that the post could have been the last one. Thanks!

Many believe that the Awami League which just came into power will be pro-India. There would still have been skirmishes with the East Pakistan Rifles, and the terrorist problem would've been far far worse if Bangladesh had not been created.

What you say is probably true. The point that I was trying to make to Raman is that India's foreign policy with its neighbors is based largely on raw military power rather than soft power such building long-term goodwill.
India's post-colonial behavior towards its neighbors is full of such examples.
Pakistan and India inherited disputed colonial borders with China at the time of their independence. In the 50's Pakistan did some land swapping with China and settled their border issues. There are 51st and 52nd divisions for defence of Jaffna. The 53rd and 55th are/were deployed in the national front. If EP is taken, the threat to Jaffna diminishes to a certain extent. The real question in that time is how much we are going to relax the defences in Jaffna without 51st and 52nd. Obviously LTTE must be having enough undercover/underground operatives in Jaffna. Lets see how the grand master going to make his next move.
