Elephant Pass being vacated

LTTE has started vacating Elephant Pass, sources told DefenceWire. With the Mechanized Infantry Division, comprising mainly of Air Mobile troops under the leadership of Ralph Nugera revving their engines, LTTE is fast running-out of places to run. It is at present limited to Elephant Pass, Palai, Puthukudirippu and the coastal areas from Mulaitivu to Nagarkovil.

Meanwhile unconfirmed sources claimed Prabhakaran's wife Mathivathini has applied for Asylum in Canada from India.

Praba's wife applying for asylum in Canada?

To Sri Lankans in Canada, get in touch with your Canadian MPs and get them to point out to your equivalent of the Foreign Ministry the following:

Article 1F of the United Nation Convention on Refugees is headed 'Persons considered not to be deserving of international protection'.

I understand the new government is a Conserevative one sho want to appear to be hard on banned terrorist organisations. Get onto this pronto people!

Diaspora can now say bye bye Kilinochchi with 'little' satisfaction and pleasure.. 1 civilian killed and 30 injured is not bad for an intelligent suicide bomber.. eh

Using a suicide bomber just to divert propaganda... what an achievement after a 30 years 'libertarian struggle' ? Anyway, good news for diaspora.. Let's expect more of this kind..

Public need to be very vigilant despite celebrations..

SLDF need to avoid another 83 from 'moda choone sinhala chandiyas'.

If LTTE is vacating EPS troops (specially in 58) should expect massive counter attacks.

MD

Do you when those calculations were done? Anyway, I think both the large LTTE runaways are very close to troops.

Could be a coincidence, her lover and biological father of Charles Anthony and Duwaraka, Shanmugalingam Sivashankar aka Pottu Amman has already applied for refuge status in Canada. At least he Pottu follows his lover.

Prabha's Wife:

If she is in India, she has no reason to migrate to Canada. However Sri Lankans in Canada must work with the Embassy to inform immigration that this is how LTTE is trying to shift their terrorist base from Sri Lanka to Canada and it is the best interest of the Canada not to honor her application.

They can point out Tamil gang related violence and intimidation of Tamil citizens in Canada by LTTE indicating these things will rise if LTTE leader's wife is entered to their country.

I glanced at Canadian immigration site and did not find anything restricting her case based on Terrorism (much contrast to US immigration policies). Perhaps a legal mind can see things I have missed.

So LTTE is going to fight with 53 and 55 too? That is 4 divisions (53, 55, 57, 59) and 4 TFs, with one more TF to join the party.

Its too bad SLA couldn't sandwich them in EPS.

DW/ others, what kind of ending scenarios we have?

Calvin said...

1.) LTTE can start jumping to sea from Chundikulam and Mullativu.

I think Peter, Mahen and the Clan already started..!

Vigilante said...

It looks to me, LTTE wants to take on the 58 in Paranthan. Withdrawal of the LTTE cadres from EP indicates that they are going to concentrate full force on one front.

Are we prepared for this scenario?

I am not a millitary person or an analyst, but 2 cents brain tells me, LTTE is going to couter attack.

Calvin said...

Last Final Thrust,
will be bit tough .. but not last longer for sure..!
and they will start surrender..!

Anonymous said...

Yep, according to my key board war expertise LTTE is for a massive counter attack to regain Paranthan against 58. But if they do that vacating EPS they have invited 53 and 55 too from rear. Big gamble, I guess.. Hope SLA knows...

Why SLAF couldn't do some 'carpet bombing' in EPS, MNK area? No civilians there.

Nisal said...

Mahen's blog is updated. Whether you like that blog or not, you should read the new post. It is very interesting.

Ares said...

Well for some reason 53/55 didnt making the big advance when paranthan fell like 57 did at iranamadu. now they are withdrawing from EP. maybe even from muhamalai (cannot confirm). there was some initial movement at the national front. but as far as i know it has stopped (for now). from the south 58's forward operating is about elements 1.5km from EP.

58 is likely to over run EP soon... maybe in the next 24 hours!

no news from mullativu front... i'll try and get some.

Vigilante said...

Beware!!!!

LTTE may have already mined the EP's-Muhamalai axis for a massive attack. DW mentioned recently how LTTE raised to the ground a booby trapped building in Killi with 11 soldiers.

They will repeat it.

If 58 runs up in this axis LTTE might bombed the whole place with some remote controlled bombs.

Please be ready.

Ares said...

interesting observation about the ltte at EP... highly unlikely though...

this moment is ltte's last chance to counter attack... once we are done with clearing operations and especially once the elections are over all hell will break lose in wanni!

counter attack at paranthan is a possibility... but i dont think they have enough to launch a assault there while maintaining enough to protect mullaittivu and muhamalai...

but well we probably should ask peter?!?

We should be 1000 times vigilant on EPS. They may be playing a trick of a withdrawal as they are desperate for a blood bath. War will not loose much if 53/55 delay the march by couple of weeks, just to make sure they are not playing a trick.

Meanwhile I like to see more attention on TF3, TF4 and 59th. They seems like the fronts for a counter attack.

Still the war is not over until we bring down Mula and Puthu and kill the rest of "elites". My concern is that a huge amount [more than 50%] of so called elites are alive. It is sure that they can't beat the strong SLDF, but it will be a nuisance for sometime.

And seems like my preferred plan for Fatpig is coming true. Everything tells me that he has chosen to flee. Diaspora, here comes the monster you created. He will occupy you in extortion, gang crimes, credit card frauds, paying a dollar a day and attempting unlawful procurements. He will provide you opium for the addiction. He will make sure at least some more of you sinners will be going to jail in decades to come. And he will be a dark symbol for the intl unity for SL's defense. Please take care of him well inn his hiding. I want to see him living for many decades to come messing your lives.

BTW, this is given for the pig only. Pottu, Bhanu et al deserves the aerial jackpot or DPU gift hamper like ThamilSelvam did.

Here is a great oppertuniy for those who would like to show their gratitude to our solidiers but want to be ABSOLUTELY sure that 100% of their donation reach the target.

I kindly request you to sponsor a child of a fallen/disabled soldier. Please email me on hareen_m@yahoo.com. I will email you back the application form. You can fill the application form with your details and the details of the child that you like to sponsor and submit the application to Army Sevavanitha unit. After you are satisfied with your own verifications you can deposit the funds monthly.

The stipulated amount is just Rs. 750-1000 monthly (depending on the age of the child). But you are most welcome to deposit more.

I think the key is civilians for the remaining part of this war.

Case 1. Civilians come to GSL areas

Then LTTE has less options; mainly, fight to death or surrender. OTOH, SLA can easily kill each and every tiger until the last tiger.

Thus GSL must make every effort to take civilians out.

Case 2. LTTE detain civilians

This makes things hard and complicated for GSL as LTTE can recruit more, use them as human shield against SLAF and SLA long range guns, use them as a tool in their propaganda (as they do so far).

In either case any kind (big or small) counter attack is a huge gamble for LTTE. They have to use their 'elites' and they will die.

When withdrawing so far, LTTE tactic was to save thier 'elites' to defend less territory and do the counter attack later when SLA is spread enough and come deep enough. But LTTE is losing rapidly ground and facilities (hospitals etc) which they need for counter offensives.

If you see Mahen's blog you can see he use NOW 4 times for the time of counter offensive. DiASSpora was expecting jayasikuru typed counter offensive for long time and time is NOW for Mahen and others are still waiting.

All the things do not repeat as sun rise. Things happen due to reasons and when reasons are eliminated it will not happen. "Modayas" have elimiated the reasons which made jayasikuru s failure and that's why "modayas" are winning the war.

Anyway, any kind of SLA victory will not stop any one's day dreaming.

What I wrote to Mahen in Ellalan Force:

Mahen I rarely visit here. Just came up to see how you manage in hard times.

You have been cheating yourselves on "surprise" for some time. I have stated many times that "surprise" will be for diaspora and it seems so. I appreciate your stern statement today, that time has come and "surprise" has to happen today. It is good that you guys realized this. In my calculation it should have happened a long time ago, in fact even now it is not so easy for your pussycats, even if they dare it, to achieve a major victory. They can push SLDF by several km at any point but it is temporary, it is a matter of time SLDF will defeat small pocket of counter attack and regain control. Whatever has happened has happened around six months ago, just that it took so long to finish it.

If you think that pussycats had such a black magic hidden under sleeve which can regain most of the wanni from this pathetic point, you're daydreaming. Reality is that they were FORCED TO withdraw and will be until the give up or die.

Accept the truth that they used "surprise" for you guys to raise hair and growl [while pumping money for them], thinking really there is one in waiting.

It is time for diaspora to come to understanding of matters at hand. Your anger, craze, addiction and crimes have been beaten. It is time for you to re configure your life to 2009 and live it. Forget differences and think within humanity in general. BTW I do not think it will happen, and I pity the loss of hopes that you end up due to your inability to adapt to the ground realities of life as today.

I'd not be visiting and annoying you guys often. I would never violate the right for the virtual eelam to exist, in fact I would help further. You guys need some relief to gain sanity and sense, after many decease of fooling, misinformation and live feeding of daydreams. You need a virtual platform as reality is no more. Thank Mahen for providing such a platform to survive with the eelam instincts for some more time.

And whatever happens I congratulate Mahen for his entrepreneurship. This blog has succeeded in a matter of days. Eelam maybe lost but as a writer you are not.

What I think is that's highly unlikely and they cannot gain much by doing so (if they withdraw from EPS and try to attck 58, they will get sandwitched). If they can (no... probably try) to attck 59, because it's their last chance. If 59 continued along east sea line, LTTE is finished. So I'm expecting more reinforcements into 59 and like to see new TF in that front. Maybe I'm worng, this is how I feel.

Well, changing the slave Tamilnadu Tamilians into nationalists won't happen in overnight but given the unfavorable conditions we should have waited enough in order to put our long term interests of Tamil Eelam before any premature actions.

Instead of killing Rajiv, LTTE should have killed scumbag "Karunanidhi" and "Jeyalalitha" long time back.

Do not think that you have beaten LTTE on your own, all the Asian powers behind you for their geo-political interests as even many foreign military analysts are stationed in Wanni.

WE SHOULD NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE ENEMY AS LTTP DID.

Can you remember the begining of the peelam war IV?

At the begining (even now), LTTP and their diaspora supporters underestimated the capabilities of our forces.

They indirectly supported MR in the presidential election as they wanted a war as soon as possible. LTTP no longer wanted a CFA as they thought they have gained everything during that era.

Just 1-2 weeks after the election, they have started blowing claymores, clearly they wanted to start a war and they thought SLDF cannot win the war.

They closed the mahaveli oya (mavilaru) and invited SLDF for a war. Meanwhile they attacked Muttur, trinco and Jaffna simultaneously, just because they underestimated the SLDF. They honestly believed that they could capture trinco and jafna and gained the control of entire north and east easily.

Diaspora guys were overjoyed during the CFA period and they requested an urgent war (and victories).

WE SHOULD NOT DO THIS MISTAKE. THEY HAVE LEARNT THE ULTIMATE LESSON AND WE SHOULD KEEP THIS IN MIND.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. We will enter a phase of hit-and-rn attacks after we reestablish full territorial control of Sri Lanka like we used to see in early 80s. However, the difference this time is that our forces are very well prepared both in size and training to face such threats. I firmly believe that we will have to maintain or increase the size of our forces forever. Our Special Forces, Commandos and police will have to engage them for years to come. We better improve our capabilities including MI to fend off future threats. I hope that Lt. Col. (Ret) Gotabhaya Rajapakse with the help of his brother is smart enough to steer our nations in right direction.

Non of us here know even 0.00001% of what VP does.

He, the almighty one, has time and time again proven himself to be a worthy leader of the Tamil people.

VP will do what is necessary, at a time when military, political and economic circumstances are at optimum.

Killinochchi is a loss, but it is not the biggest or worst ever loss suffered by Tamils./

@SP Bro,

Brig. Wimalaratne already has a statue at Kiribathgoda. Gen. Kobbekaduwa had quite a few statues but I am not sure of the exact locations, one is supposed to be in Kandy.

Gen. Algama was also a great soldier who cleared EP. Made the same stupid political decision as Gen. Perera. True he deserves one as well.

Also, Admiral Clancy Fernando, Gen. Parami Kulathunga (there is a huge billboard with his pic. at Pannipitiya, the place he was killed), Col. Fazly Lahir, Col. Nissanka, etc. etc.

Mankulam - Major GS Jayanath

Place in Jaffna - L/Cpl WIM Seneviratne (bike escort who saved life of Nimal Siripala).

Not to forget the other PWV winner Lt-Com Jude Lakmal Wijethunge

@Ninja Bro,

[But I couldn't see Mr. Uthayakumar...]

From the same factory as the NIC of the 17 year old SLA trooper, DPU soldier who grew a beard while he was dead for 1 mongth and whose mutilated body miraculously healed (as in Dolph-Lungren/Van Damm film Universal Soldier), SLA soldiers raping a dead body and urging to show their faces, and last but not least the vid where an MI24 was shot!

SCENARIOS: Is Sri Lanka's quarter-century war near its end?
Fri Jan 2, 2009 10:21am EST

(Reuters) - Sri Lanka's military on Friday said it had seized Kilinochchi, which the separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had claimed as capital of the nation they want to create for Sri Lankan Tamils.

With that, the military has struck a strategic and symbolic blow that shows it has made the most battlefield progress at any time since the war began in 1983. That has analysts asking if the ground war could soon be over.

Here are some scenarios of what could happen next:

THE BATTLE HEADS EAST

With Kilinochchi in government hands, the Tigers now control a wedge-shaped piece of land in the northeast corner of the island and a heavily defended strip on the neck of the Jaffna Peninsula that soldiers can hit from both sides now. The only major town the Tigers still control is the Mullaittivu port in the east. Troops are heading toward there on all fronts to the west and south, trying to push the LTTE toward the ocean. Another unit of near division strength -- Task Force Five -- is soon to deploy, the military has said.

DOES MILITARY SUCCESS MEAN EARLY ELECTIONS?

With the LTTE losing ground and the military riding high, President Mahinda Rajapaksa has plenty of political support. That has prompted allies to call for an early parliamentary election to consolidate power and sidestep criticism of his government's handling of the $32 billion economy leveled by the main opposition United National Party. Dates are already set for polls for two provincial councils in February, which many political observers say will be a chance for Rajapaksa to test the waters and shore up support before a national election. Some were expecting Kilinochchi's fall to be the trigger for an early national poll, but advisers have said that is but one of many factors that figure in Rajapaksa's political calculations.

WHAT ABOUT THE ECONOMY?

As predicted, both the Colombo Stock Exchange and the sliding rupee currency got a boost from Kilinochchi's capture. It remains to be seen how long that will last since both tend to move on their own fundamentals and have recorded some impressive performances in the course of the 25-year war. In December, Standard & Poor's Ratings Services cut Sri Lanka's sovereign rating by one level to B, five notches below investment grade, on declining foreign exchange reserves and a high fiscal deficit. Most analysts say a sovereign default is unlikely. That said, the IMF has warned that Sri Lanka's impressive economic growth could slow if it doesn't cut spending, stop taking expensive foreign loans and spend its foreign exchange to support the rupee. It has eased up its support for the rupee to conserve cash.

IS THAT A RISK TO RAJAPAKSA?

Not really, especially with popularity for his war effort so strong. Rajapaksa's mainly rural power base has been largely shielded from economic woes through his populist budgets and development projects. Rajapaksa is also counting on a flood of post-war reconstruction money to come in after fighting ends.

ARE THE TIGERS DOWN FOR THE COUNT?

Tiger leader Vellupillai Prabhakaran in his annual speech in November said the government was living in a "dreamland" if it thought it would win. But most analysts say the Tigers are on the defensive and losing strength. The diplomatic currency on which the Tigers had long traded -- that they are defending a minority -- suffered in December when Human Rights Watch accused them of mistreating and forcibly recruiting the Tamils they say they represent. Many analysts say Prabhakaran may order bombings or air raids in Colombo, but will not be able to reverse military gains as spectacularly as he did in the 1980s and 1990s. The military and analysts expect the Tigers to increasingly go underground as they lose turf, changing back into the guerrilla group they started as and away from the conventional force they have become. In a possible sign of things to come, a suspected rebel suicide bomber killed three airmen in Colombo hours after Kilinochchi fell.

INDIA: THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

Sri Lanka's giant neighbor has always loomed large in the war. Despite a lot of noise from ethnic Tamil politicians in southern India with decades of links to the LTTE, Rajapaksa and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have agreed Tamil political grievances must be addressed while the Tigers should be dealt with militarily. And since Islamist gunmen assaulted Mumbai last month, analysts say Singh is unlikely to give any quarter to a group his own government lists as a terrorist outfit despite renewed pressure for a ceasefire from Indian Tamil politicians.

LK is nice. Let me also throw in SF or GR. It was these people's leadership that help us liberate it.

Vesipilai prevented 300,000 people from voting for Rani Wickremesinghe.

The disasspora should have sacked VP for that "strategic" mistake alone. Now VP will continue as Chairman until the project is liquidated.

On this day of celebration also spare a thought for Chaminda Yakadawela the hero who saved the life of SF in April 2006."

Didn't people say MR paid LTTE to prevent Tamils voting for RW?

If true, how often you hear stories of kicking the butt of the bribe taker?

Whatever it is, it is Sri Lanka's destiny.
