Crowds Jubilate, But Prabha's Demise Unverified

6 jets from the SLAF's number 10 fighter jet squadron bombed an LTTE strong point dubbed 'X-Ray Base around 11am today. The attack was launched targeting LTTE leader V. Pripaharan. X-Ray base is situated east of Iranamadu Tank in Kalmadukulam and is an important nerve center specially constructed for Pripaharan himself.

The base was manned by Imran-Pandyan Regiment and was bustling with activity when the attack was made, following credible ground intelligence. All 6 pilots have confirmed direct hits. However, the presence of AA batteries was not verified.

Meanwhile crowds around the island took to the streets lighting firecrackers in the belief that Pripaharan himself has been killed in the attack. DefenceWire does not have confirmation of Pripaharan's death. Credible ground intelligence will take upto several days to verify such claims, unless LTTE declares otherwise.

DW, my brother told me there were several Air Force fighter jets flying towards north this evening.

Any news about an attack?

if the sun goat is "gone" then this is a perfect reason to jubilate.! if someone got a problem with that! please go to the crowds and tell them about your problem!

sandun,
They flew over the bombed site before nightfall to confirm acquired target east of Iranamadu tank, Mullaithivu.

machang the writer, if it so, we all want to celebrate it. but the problem is still there isn't any confirmation.

perein,
AA stands for anti-aircraft. It also stands for Avenue of Approach, but not in this context.

LTTE refutes SLAF claims of air strike on Tiger leadership

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 23 January 2008, 13:11 GMT]
Liberation Tigers Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan Wednesday evening refuted the claims by the Sri Lanka Air Force that it had hit a location of the leader of the LTTE Velupillai Pirapaharan Wednesday morning. Stating that Colombo was spreading false propaganda, Mr. Ilanthirayan said the SLAF attack targeted civilian settlements at Vaddakkachchi twice between 11:10 a.m. and 11:35 a.m. and in the evening between 5:15 and 6:00 p.m.

Mr. Ilanthirayan was responding to questions raised by media in Colombo.

Earlier in the day, the SLAF had claimed that it had hit a key LTTE base describing the target as LTTE's nerve centre and stating it was awaiting confirmation on whether the LTTE leader was residing in the target, which it named as "X-tray base".

Colombo was engaged in such false propaganda, also during the Tsunami catastrophe and on many occasions earlier, he said.

The handle SF on LNP just updated with the following

"Here is the latest folks...there is nothing pretty much...

top Intel sources are confident that the target was present at the time of the attack as it does not have any information to the effect that he has left.

but SF learns that none of the top Intel sources whithin the ltte or in vanni dealing with military intelligence and state Intel agencies have made contact with Colombo as of a hour ago.

this is not a strange phenomenon as its not usual practice for the sources to not make contact in the immediate aftermath of a strike for safety reasons...

my next update will be in about 3 hours when ill get the chance to talk to a topmost person who is presently charing a meeting of defence and intelligence officlas..."

lkdood,
This is correct. Something HAS HAPPENED. We are yet not sure what. Our sources in K'nochchi MUST lie low now. It is the procedure. We must rely on relayed information, carried to MI through a complicated network of ground operatives. Some were issued with new communication equipment, a whispering radio system that is clear in Dondra Point, even if the signal was initiated from Point Pedro. These were handed over personally by mid-level officers of MI recently to their respective agents. However, if the inevitable has happened, it is only a matter of time.

About Tamilnet and other sources loyal to Tigers

The chances of them announcing Prabha's demise is very low. this is not like Charles' killing. But if it is true, they will announce it, eventually.

Patriots,
What we need is more deberlitating air strikes on LTTE hideouts to demoralize the low level carders. SLA army should get more support from SLAF during invasion missions.
