The Columbian-French politician Íngrid Betancourt was rescued last Tuesday in Operation Jaque, executed to great perfection by the Colombian Army. It is hailed a victory and a morale booster for Defence Forces fighting guerrilla groups around the world.

this is one of the most successful efforts in recent history.
the recent fallout of the venizuelan president (who is a hardliner) with the rebel movement also set the stage for their defence stand. it is expected that the rebel movement will not last long engaged in violence.

If early reports of a payout are unfounded, this operation sounds more like an Israeli operation in its heydays( ie 60-early80s)rather than from the not-so reputed Colombian one;) . Indeed an ex-Mossad is supposedly one of the planners.
However the FARC still has an estt 10,000 troops with a shrinking but supportive peasant base--I would expect to see them around a decade later too, but militarily much less potent.
