The Tamilnet website, manned by Pro-LTTE Tamil Diaspora 'journalists' continues inventing news stories favorable to their losing war. In one of its recent and most blatant lies, the website announced on Tuesday, August 2008, that '23 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed and four wounded in a Claymore ambush at Periyavaddavaan in Tharavai (Thoppikkal) area in Batticaloa district Tuesday evening around 6:30'.
Supposedly, 'well informed sources in Batticaloa' had told this to TamilNet. The site goes on to claim that this 'is the first major ambush on SLA since the Sri Lankan forces occupied the Thoppikkal region an year ago'.
In a small line below the article, the site reveals the truth, that 'only one SLA soldier was killed in the ambush and three wounded'. Although these lies are clearly to a Diaspora audience, it reveals the dwindling quality of tamilnet's sources in the East. Comparatively speaking, Tamilnet sources in the Wanni still continues as evidenced by an article today alleging a shelling of an innocents house in the Wanni.
While Tiger bank-rolled sites continue with its blatant lies, government websites seem incapable of reporting accurately on the damages to the LTTE inflicted regularly by troops. This is perhaps due to a long internalized practice of looking inwards for spin-doctoring casualties on own side than focusing on the enemy and the predicament that it is currently in.
Meanwhile troops from Task Force 1 today captured a large LTTE compound at Vellaimuttal, north of Vellankulam. Troops now have less than 23kms to reach Pooneryn.

can you give your opinion, given the circumstances and support each general had at his disposal, which of these 3 performed the best against LTTE on the battlefield( not White-van stuff)?
a)SF( till date) b)JCP c)Kobbekaduwa d)any other good General you can think of.
All,
Special Force at LNP says that,
"top ltte leader among dead...more information as im able to post..."
Any thoughts?
STD,
I think all 3 guys are in 3 different leagues. you cannot compare their performances. They all performed at their best in all dimensions security wise.
So i can't really say who is really the best.
danuska,
thanks . I think I agree with you mostly. But personally I have a bias for Generals who often risk themselves in the thick of battle( which can also be deemed as foolishness of course).

no info on this but lets hope its a big fish
stf troopers suffering high casualties in the past 3 days, 23 killed in claymore ambush the first day, 11 killed the second day in another claymore attack, 2 killed yesterday while stepping on a pressure mine, 4 killed after a raid on a bunker fdl line in Kanchikudicharu, Vepaiyadi area. And a homeguard was killed in the Amparai area today. There are going to be some interesting developments in the east in the coming weeks and months.
Banu & Theepan are alive

Maj.Gen Kobbekaduwa was the best of all by great measure. As I hear, former.Maj.Gen Kobbekaduwa saved many innocent Tamil civilians in front lines. SF is thug and moron as you can see from his last interview while JP is a big time whiner.
Upul,
Give us a break. Tamilnet has fairly low credibility and its quality has diminished even further after the death of D. Sivaram.
Here's a thread I started on another site on "The Worthlessness of Tamilnet."

Looks like tighter controls are needed.
After all, it is only Sinhala blogs that allow others to post, basically because we respect the right of dissent.
The monkey bastards never could understand the higher ethics of such behavior and that is why they are only good at blowing things up, or pissing upwind.
It is time to pull the plug on their freedom of speech, since the animals are here in cahoots and are really getting down to their own true habits.
Ogre;
Taking Pooneryn opens the doors to an amphibious landing from the north, backed by heavy arti from the Jaffna peninsular and naval guns. SLN is currently acquiring more landing craft prob'ly for this purpose.
That would also make the Muhammalai and E'pass areas very vulnerable and unsustainable for the Tigers.
And then there's Karuna, who hasn't done anything worthwhile for sometime. He is a specialist in that area and can be put to good use to neutralize EP.
Ruslan
Looks like Georgia walked into a well choreographed trap. The Russians would have been watching the scenario as it developed there and Condi's visit plus US forces providing training and arms seems to have sealed the Georgians' fate.
The Georgians were stupid to expect NATO or US commitment of troops into a balkan war, which the US has never faught and has always been wary of. Given the present status quo, it would be surprising only if Russia leaves teh Georgians without making them kneel.
At this point, it all leads to 'regime change in Georgia' and the Russians hold all the strings.
Putin is a tough sob who has never dropped the ball on anything. This one will be a lesson to the world, just like in Chechnya.
The world is watching Georgia. When white kills white, that is prime news, unbelievable stuff and pains the snow white souls.
Not the same when it is some other color.
Now's the time to pluck the cherry, SLA.
"Now's the time to pluck the cherry, SLA."
YES; YES.
1. georgia
2. beijing
3. afghanistan (heaps of civilians dying of air raids)
4. big boys are engaged in VARIOUS SELF-CREATED trouble
T(Z)amilNut has put more pics of SLAF bombing scenes. and are claiming that civilians have got hert.
BUT why dont they ever show the actual location that the bombs are hit??????????????????????
They always show some of the surroundings, why?????????????????
That means SLAF was right on the spot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WELL DONE SLAF............
CHALLENGE TO THE TZAMIZNUT, SHOW THE ACTUAL LOCATION OF WHERE THE BOMB HIT, THERE SHOULD BE A BIG HOLE IN THE GROUND!!!!!!!!!!
OH AND HE HE...
"a word of advice...taking EP and holding it w/o forward guard is very risky vs holding poonaryn region which i think is an excellent point for SLA"
How about
taking EP and holding it + taking and holding Pooneryn region?
We have two almost idle (but battle ready) offensive divisions in Jaffna.
I am pretty sure (a guess) that our military planners are thinking of using the said divisions on the mainland.
After all, it is only Sinhala blogs that allow others to post, basically because we respect the right of dissent.
Is this a sinhala BLOG? then Google..
Danushka,
Dont worry, I'm here to dicuss about Military matters and not to yap about racism or anything else! ;-)
I dont agree with your comment that Gen. SF wants to completely destroy the LTTE. It's simply not possible mate, and he sure knows it.
What Gen. SF wants is to remove as many LTTE cadres as possible from the battle field.
Of course killing them is one option and the other option is to get as many of them to surrender.
This would undoubtedly make Gen. SF's and SL Forces' job much easier.
something I posted on DN on the same matter;
One thing that keeps these LTTE cadres fighting is their morale...
They are made to believe that the LTTE is in a winning streak and that these are the final battles they are fighting to achieve their ultimate goal.
With no connections to the outside world what so ever (i.e. no tv, no newspapers, no radio etc), these poor souls go and fight with
the SL Forces and die a horrible death, believing they are just days away from Eelam!
That is why we need to call them to surrender... drop leaflets, talk to them over their radios, and like someone suggested,
use loud speakers and make sure that the message goes through to them, whether the LTTE hierarchy likes it or not!

Now we really know where the banana republic is..
And these buggers have been supplying tobacco to make cigarettes for the south eh?
Hi guys,
I am a regular reader here and on DN but this is my first comment.
I wanted to bring up a point mentioned by Ogre, the indegenous production of war material. Is there any work done on this front? I think times of war are the best time to rump up production of weapons and army vehicles in a country directly under government control. Once the war is over, these can be used for commercial production.
Also, I think if the government asked directly for people with the skills in specific fields like these rather than just asking everybody for a list of their skills, it would be more productive.
Any comments?
phaedrus
Before Def Sec and New Army commander took office, our Armed forces were only producing a few rudimentary rockets (Mi 24), refit tata trucks called buffels.
Things have changed...about 30 odd new engineering/Science PhDs with new technology division.
what we need is more...
ramp those mental stamping plants to produce more shells
They can initiate metal works projects to produce spare parts for tanks, armored vehicles.
We are now fully independent on FAC manufacture and ours are better shell and handling wise compared to Dvora mk 4s of isreal.
if smaller countries such as isreal , (former Iraq w/ smaller educated population than Sri LAnka), New Zealand can produce these items why can't we....
I have forwarded extensive details of stamping equipment for the mass manufacture of certain military hardware...but SL authorities are so fucking lame on moving forward on anything...
WAKE and up and SMELL the COFFEE.
The conflict will change in its ferocity but will never end as long as thamil extremists are alive + foreign interventions.
so long term planning is very important.
if we have good craftsmen who can take a dead ugly piece of wood and create a wonder out of it...why cant we do it with metal? (it is the same concept)
In search of an R & D head to operate this...will pay at least RS 1000 K per month! if anyone can get the job done!
These are some examples:

take u r 4% struggle else where we are here 85% ,!!
every where in the world game and the rule is the same!! f u don't like it come to kilinochchi bunkers and fight for madivathee..!!
..why this "gul" thalivarr send suicidal-Tamil bombers to kill fellow Tamils?
b`cos he hate tamils sooo much!!??
why tamil join lttp`s black tigers.?
1/ b`cos their been abuse by "gul-talivarr
2/ they are jealous of others?
3/they feel useless
4/to have a good meal just before a mission?
5/to see thalivar actually exsist?
ogre,
It's great to hear something is being done at the moment. Even if it's only a start.
I am in UK and I meet plenty of educated, decent (and non-racist) sinhalese and tamils who are waiting for the war to end so that they can start investing in Sri Lanka and help to develop it. These people can see that there is no home other than our own country, and no matter what the governments in the west say, they only look after themselves and are hopelessly incompetent even at that.
But there is also the problem of not trusting the politicians and other biased news sources which limits the ability of this community to actually do something progresive in the development. Specially since not every one can be on the ground in Sri Lanka.
What I would like to suggest is we start a blog or something similar so the intelligent people can share views on what needs to be done, where the investments needs to go and what information is needed. Something like DW and DN where credible people with the knowledge of ground situation can comments and it will be seen by others who can help. Being non-profit, it will also help to keep the destructive poltical and monetary interests out.
Military projects are probably sensitive, so we may have to skip those. But there is so much else that can be done to improve the infrastructure and the economy.
It would be good if someone with credibility here and good knowledge and connections can start a seperate blog. I am sure the guys here who care would help it along and give publicity amoung the Sri Lankan communities abroad who can help materially.
Finally, I would like to say that, as per capitalism, capital in one form or another is the main thing for the growth of any country. While our soldiers on the ground risk their lives everyday to end the current scourge, Sri Lankans abroad should not be content just to count the number of dead bodies of LTTE reported. We need to start helping in ways that actually matter. And I am sure the people will too, and some way to be confident that their contributions actually go to where it matters will help to speed this up a lot.
I'd really appreciate your comments on this.

tiger DPU attack? what crap?
what happened last sunday was this (what i think):
tigers moved beyond their FDLs and were "testing the waters". SLA in a lightning strike op "neutralised" this crap build-up.
tiger advance was on "no-man's" land and therefore is not a "penetration" into SLDF areas. TN gives it away when it says SLA initiated the attacks. if SLA initaiated them, how the hell can it be a LTTE penetration attack?
but this reveals many tiger secrets.
1. tigers are SHIT scared of the DPU
2. they WISH they could do the same
3. SLDF has not RETREATED for the past 2 years. this worries the LTTE VERY BADLY.
4. LTTE relys on foolish "psy op"s to keep SLA at bay in the jaffna peninsula. unfortunately they BACKFIRE!!!
shan
The jet would not need to come below a 1000feet for anything at all. In the T'chalvam strike they did fly very low, but then there really was no need for it. modern targetting systems on board do teh job at any height.
My guess is it is just the camera angle. i'm surprised the tamilNut didn;t claim this as proof of another SLAF jet shoot down..
What is this ?

Thanks TS
another calrification pl.
the main clip on Sinhahada has a kind of a chain type demining piece of equipment. any more info on this
Moshe, parakrama and thambala,(if you are around) we discussed this type of equipment in a previous thread quite some time back, so you would also be able to enlighten us.
DW/dA:
Looks like news dried up. Any news from Kalvilan battle?
Senior LTTE member has gone missing
"Arvalan" has gone missing some days ago
LTTE is actively looking for him
LTTE suspects "Arvalan" has joined MI
"Arvalan" holds a Lt. Col rank in the LTTE
MCNS reportds
KILINOCHCHI: Today (13) afternoon troops gained total control of MULANKAVIL area in KILINOCHCHI. Due to troops heavy attacks twenty LTTE cadres were reported killed including a LTTE area leader named THENNAMAN
anyone know who this character is?
Tropicalstorm,
yeah, if you can see when Georgian president talking on tv, he's keeping the EU flag behind always. but Georgia's not a EU member. :))
Shan,
I am not expert in these matters and I can't see demining equipment on the main clip in the link that you gave.
However I saw one demining machine in action after the capture of Madhu shown in Rupavahini. It had protruding and rotating spiked wheel kind of thing that took off top soil.
There are such things as "maneuverable reentry vehicles" (MaRVs) which can deploy glide wings to allow a glide-to-target capability after reentry, but even still they're going very, very fast so slowing them down to allow for glide can be difficult. This is more on the cutting edge kind of thing, and so there might be more info that we just can't get to on it. Sadly, ICBM tech doesn't end up on TV shows like Future Weapons that much because it is something that, hopefully, we'll never actually see used.
