Two Zlin 143 planes that came to attack the Vavuniya Air Force Headquarters, having managed to avoid anti-aircraft guns unloaded its cargo of gravity bombs mostly outside the base around 3.45am today. A 2D Radar system in Vavuniya picked up their approach and had conveyed it to SLAF fighter jets by this time.
F-7 Fighters and others on standby scrambled into the morning sky immediately. The SLAF aircraft managed to track down one of the Zlins over Mulaitivu District, and engaged it with gun fire and missiles. The aircraft caught fire and went down in a ball of fire into an area ahead of the SLDF 59 Division FDL.
The Army knows this location and Air Force sources indicated there could be some actual footage of the crash. It was too early to verify these claims.
The Tigers had thought they had set the stage for a surprise aerial attack but had given it away in a sudden unexpected 120mm attack on the Vavuniya FDL last night. 6 soldiers were killed and another 6 were inured in the attack.

This is disastrous news for We Tamils! The first instance of AIRCRAFT GENOCIDE™!
Any chance that the video is released for public viewing? Our friendly neighbourhood NGO's need to see this new form of GENOCIDE™ so they can help us! As if GENOCIDING™ We Tamil Tigers wasn't bad enough, now these homophobes are GENOCIDING™ TAMIL PLANES!
After the incident, LTTE PhotoShop Regiment mobilized it's crack monkeys to show how their automated air-defence system brought down SLAF KFir. It is a spectacular to watch how the F7 was transformed in to Kfirs to become Mig27s on the way down and fell in to the Gulf of Mexico.
I am sure tamilnut will publish that same picture of the bogus pilots with the pig....
Thanks Defencewire for quick update...
I am so happy rolling on the ground here....
Elakirie...
Gahapalla LTTE Ekata Rampeta porrie Hal-lena
Elara,
I am waiting to see what Tamilnet.tv says.
Rover, Shay....
Really happy about this news. Well done SLAF and the concerned pilots.
Like I said they have changed their MO and thank to heavens our guys were ready to take them on.
Looking forward to hear more details.
By the way Shay, Rover thanks for commenting on my earlier posts and giving this "outsider" a little bit of education on the art/craft of war.
Congratulation to the pilot/s for the first successful hit on a enemy aircraft in SLAF history.
At last..!!!
Good job SLAF. We can do better next time.
Well..as for the Tiger sympathizers
Some days you get the bear and some days bear gets you. ;)
Well done ladies and gentlemen.
Simply very well done. Lost for the words....
Keep up the good work.
Pictures are up in army.lk.
DW,
Thanks for regular updates. I've been a keen follower of your blogs, which are very interesting and informative.
Daily Mirror has a question mark about taking down the TAF aircraft, but state with affirmation about the deaths in SL defence forces. Hhhmmmm.....I wonder why????
Well done SLAF! Great achivement.
Next time, perhaps we can split the counter-attack package to 1 F7G v. 1 ZLin. I know doubling up on one target doubles the chance of successfully downing but i think success in future needs to be total not 50%. But great achivement nonetheless!
Does anybody have pictures?
