It rained incessantly for the fourth consecutive day today in the Wanni. Troops continued their operations despite the weather and heavy LTTE resistance.
Heavy fighting erupted on Sunday after 58 Division troops broke through an LTTE earth bund along the Pooneryn-Paranthan road. The 58 was able to advance only 2km when heavy LTTE resistance forced them back. 90 casualties were reported to the 58, 12 of which were deaths.
The 58 had 6km to advance along the Pooneryn-Paranthan road but these 6km is completely open terrain. Like in Sempankunduvillu, Tigers launched attacks from well defended positions. Field Commanders told DefenceWire that they will achieve their objective no matter what.
On that day itself, total casualties to troops was 160, majority of whom were in the P3 and P4 categories. These included casualties from fighting in Kokavil, Murukandi and Weli Oya. This is an indicator of LTTE determination to resist, which is welcomed by the Army.

Prabakaran’s 54th birthday celebrations cancelled - Asian Tribune
Colombo, 26 November, (Asiantribune.com): Pro-LTTE websites have reported that the 54th birthday celebrations of the aging leader Velupillai Prabkaran were cancelled on his instruction.
Reasons for cancelling of the birthday celebrations are not clear.
In the meantime, Minister Kehelia Ramukawella, Government spokesman on Defence and National security has said that the fall of Kilinochchi is imminent.
Defence Ministry sources also announced that Troops of Task Force 3 operating east of Mankulam have gained total control over the Olumadu village yesterday evening, located 4Km northeast of Mankulam along the Mankulam - Mullaittivu (A-34) main road, reaching to a significant stage in the Wanni liberation operation, which is another blow to the LTTE’s sagging moral.
However Prabakaran the leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam who took to arms vowing to create a separate state of Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka, has lost since November 27, 1982 to November 20, 2008, more than 22,390 Tamil Tigers - young Tamil men and women.

well vajira was the first with news and todays SF from LNP kind of gave some info saying they have entered kili and started to clear the area. usually his info is accurate. But he did mention if LTTE counter attack they may have to wait another 3-4 days to declare as kili captured.
Kilinochchi is not captured, SLA still bogged down in Mavil Aru. Eelam is just around the corner.

Yep, when some one completely new to the blog say some thing... we suspect him as LTTE. (With time only we will know, as they post.) Initialy, I strongly suspected rana was LTTE becuz he said some thing bad about SLA, but I was wrong. So its difficult to conclude any thing from one's initial posts.
SLDF have a hard time identifying LTTE cadres from civilians. We also here have hard time identifying the privious names of new tigers. Ha Ha Anyway I like when tigers use nice names like Lalith, Upul... Ha Ha
The last reliable source (Sunday Observer), stated that earlier today the army was 2 km away from the south and 5 km away from the west.
2 km is a long distance for a single day in bad weather against experienced fighters unless the enemy is in a total rout. Must be careful also for a counter-attack ambush. So if this distance is correct then I think that it is doubtful that Kilinochchi center (like the hospital where probably the local HQ and logistics center are located) will be captured today or tomorrow before the speech.
But I hope I am wrong. Regardless, Kilinochchi will fall in the next few days which will shatter the morale of cadres and diaspora.

Kilinochi was captured this morning after heavy long fighting through out the night. Forces gained control of southern part of town inclduing Kilinochi hospital and still heavy fighting going on as LTTE try to regain the places. According to my sources Town will be in full control by tonight..But we have lost many soldiers and too many injured and lost limbs since they traped in landmines field.

what are the chances of the tigers dynamiting the banks of the tanks in the killi area to cause a flood and to make movements hard for the army and then using this sudden flash floods to launch attacks in the areas affected (eg- mallaiv and thunukai..places well known to be prone to floods)??

The defence ministry said there were bloody clashes around the edge of the northern town of Kilinochchi, the political headquarters of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Government officials said troops were poised to take the Tigers' lair.
"There is fierce fighting going on but the fall of Kilinochchi is imminent," the government's defence spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella told reporters in Colombo.
The "imminent" fall of the rebel base comes after a series of strategic reverses for the LTTE, who have been fighting for a separate homeland for island's 3 million Tamils for 25 years. In the last two weeks, the army seized the entire western coast from the rebels for the first time since 1993.
As journalists have been denied access to the battlefield, independent confirmation is not possible. Kilinochchi is more than 200 miles north of Sri Lanka's capital, Colombo.
The news comes as the elusive guerrilla leader Velupillai Prabhakaran marks his 54th birthday. His yearly "heroes day" speech is eagerly anticipated as one of the few indications of his mindset – and it also aims to bolster support among the global Tamil diaspora, who have helped fund the LTTE for years.
In Colombo, there has been intense speculation that Sri Lanka's president, Mahinda Rajapaksa, would announce the Kilinochchi capture to upstage the LTTE leader's annual speech. Three weeks ago Rajapaksa rejected the Tigers' latest ceasefire offer as disingenuous, saying they must surrender or be wiped out.
The Tigers have been fighting for a state to be carved out of the island for Sri Lanka's minority Tamils because they claim systematic discrimination by the Sinhalese ethnic majority in the 60 years since independence from Britain.
However, splits within the organisation – notably by their eastern military strategist Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, who is known as Colonel Karuna – proved to be their undoing. It would be good if someone can provide a link to say that the dieasspora celebrations (e.g. the one in Excel Centre, London) is cancelled, I have looked at the usual suspects, but can't find a word mentioned about it. I came up with this idea to promote poetry and literature here. I am honestly proud of many skills we have here. Shall we start a poetry competition on Mahen of Nochchikudah?
He is a much better and decent guy than Thelebara piglot. Piglot is issuing vague statements of illusive counter attacks and surprises and bloodbath - but only the torrential rain is blocking the marching SLDF divisions. But Mahen was a brave kid who went all the way providing a clean target with a clear time frame to be achieved. Success or failure you ought to respect this straight speaking Mahen of Nochchikudah. If I was Mahinda I will give him the Nochchikudah as a ninda-gama. That is why I thought Mahen of Nochchikudah is a better person to write poems about.
