SLAF 'exposed'

SLAF's recent performance against the Zlins

When investigating the SLAF, our particular attention fell on the recent attack by the Zlin-143s in Colombo. This being the most discussed issue against the SLAF in recent times, we decided to inquire into the reasons why an 'appropriate' response was not made to engaging the Zlins.

We were assured by sources within the SLAF that MI-24 gunships were airborne and waiting in an undisclosed location over Kilinochchi and that F-7s were also dispatched to engage the Zlins. But we discovered that the 'aerial route' the SLAF say its jets took and its helicopter gunships were waiting on to intercepting the Zlins were different to the one the 2 Zlins had taken.

Based on our investigations (see some details below), we must conclude that it was a wonder that SLAF pilots downed a Zlin speaking volumes for their quality. During a few previous Zlin attacks, including the one on Vavuniya, three planes were observed on the radar screen but during the last attack on Colombo, only two had popped up on the screen. The 3rd plane, sources say, was acting as a guide.

After a careful investigation we have drawn the following conclusions:

1. SLAF fighter pilots and helicopter gunship pilots are adequately motivated to destroy the threat (if there is an actual threat) posed by the Zlins. SLAF sources indicated they keep an F-7 pilot team ready at a dedicated barrack all night to counter the threat. We will accept this explanation.

2. There seems to be a huge mis-match between the high-tech of the SLAF and the low-tech of the LTTE.

3. The F-7s in particular cannot get a radar lock without Beyond Visual Range target-locking systems. The current radar systems cannot lock on the target because the F-7s move at a faster pace and higher altitude compared to the Zlins. The slow, low-flying planes can easily get away from the existing target-locking systems of the F-7s. If the downing of the Zlins is an absolute must, we recommend SLAF seeking immediate assistance from the Indian Air Force who have upgraded their MIG-29s with BVR.

4. Although a few MI-24s have been equipped with radar, radar alone is inadequate in guiding an attack helicopter towards the Zlins in the dead of the night. The radar on board the MIs had not tracked the Zlins successfully. Only the ground-based radar had been able to observe the planes bobbing up and down. The MIs cannot pursue the Zlins with instructions from the ground-based radar alone.

5. Tigers have used an air burst bomb on the power plant, which a Navy video of the bombing clearly shows. This means that they have either improved on their home-made bomb or obtained new bombs. But one must keep in mind that even mortar bombs can be set to explode several meters above ground.

6. There is no evidence of the Zlins being equipped with radar deflation systems, although Radar being a simple radio wave, can be countered with another opposite frequency. Radar absorbing paint, however, is a more likely option. The paint is mixed with an alloy to make radar absorbing paint--a simple low-tech method to confuse the magnetic energy around the plane. But there is no evidence to suggest that the LTTE is using any of these methods.

SLAF's accuracy in bombing raids

Our investigations reveal that the accuracy of the bombing raids of the SLAF's fast jet bombers is currently between 80 to 90 percent. A sincere effort was made during the CFA to improve the accuracy of the attacks. This effort seems to have paid some dividends.

Although the exact details involved in improving the accuracy of the jet bombers cannot be revealed, some details can be discussed openly at this point. One of the key improvements the SLAF made was through the acquisition of DGPS or Differential Global Positioning Systems.

The jet bombers of number 10 squadron release their lethal cargo automatically once over the target, based on a computerized system. What one calls 'Dive Bombing' is where the pilot lowers the nose of the jet as he approaches the target but the bomb is released by the computerized system on board.

Before the CFA, SLAF realized that GPS coordinates it had gathered were 10m to sometimes 100m off target due to a problem with the traditional latitudinal and longitudinal grid map. Through an elaborate and cunning process, SLAF and MIC were able to correct this map with the differential data. They then superimposed this new map with satellite images. Hundreds of LTTE targets were thus systematically mapped resulting in the aforesaid increase in accuracy.

"The so-called "Tamil" literature is (I am told) equally beautiful and is related to Buddhist influence early on and taken further during Bhakti period."

The earliest Tamil literature had nothing to do with Buddhism. Buddhism only had an effect on later epic literature, and even then the Jains probably had a greater influence.

"It's a pity that the monkeys decided to call it "Tamil" which is a corruption on the sinhala invented word Damila. I am sure the Pandyas or the Cholas did not call themselves "Tamil"."

Wrong on both counts. The word "Thamil" itself is one of the oldest words in the language and the Pandyas, Cholas and Cheras most certainly referred to themselves as Tamils. It is "damila" which is the corruption.

"Damilla=Damila= "end of Dhamma"= "no Dhamma"= "enemy of Dhamma""

I hope that the above is a joke.

"Elara was a Karnataka General. He was not Chola (it unlikely that "Cholas" existed at the time- this lesson for another time)."

Cholas most certainly existed back then and it is very likely that Elara was a Chola, based on the story of the bell, the cow, and the calf which also appeared in Chola legends.

"Elara used a 'bell' so that people come to his palace and ring it if they want to make a complaint. No such tradition existed in south india or in particular with cholas. But such tradition did existed in Iran (Parsia)."

Can Ealara be from Iran/Parsia? What do you think?

Pooneryn Terrorist Bastion falls to Army: Task Force 1 -Task accomplished

Troops of Army Task Force 1 have entered LTTE bastion at Ponneryn this morning (Nov 15) scoring the greatest feat against terrorist in their courageous march along the northwestern coast of the Island.

Infantrymen of 12 Gamunu Watch (12 GW) and 10 Gajaba Regiment (10 GR) successfully negotiated the great marshlands south of Pooneryn last night , and cut off the Pooneryn- Paranthan road (B-69) close to Nallur before dawn today. Troops then marched about 10 Km along the B-69 and entered into the Pooneryn town , where the terrorists have their last bastion on the West coast.

According to the defence sources at the field terrorists have given a stiff resistance to the advancing troops . Pitched battles are still going in the area, the sources said. The terrorists are fast withdrawing towards the K- Point.

I hope at the same time 58D is moving east alonng Pooneryn- Paranthan road!

If LTTP ever want to do counter offensive this is the time. They should use their full strength (hard core) and attack via Nallur and isolate part of 58D in Pooneryn. I hope SLA has taken all the steps neacasary. Even such an attack can't stop the SLA momentom but might slow down. And I don't see any other 'chance' for LTTP.

Now SLA need to keep on attacking LTTP in all fronts, in particular Paranthan area. Well, commanders know better than me...

yes, according to what i know.

tamil is a combination of negrotis, pronto australis and north african peoples. unlike sinhala, tamil is both the ethnicity and the race.

negrotis means negroid ppl who moved to asia as negroids (without much evolution). pronto australis are australian/irriyan jaya aboriginal ppl.

almost all north indian regional languages fall under indo-aryan, indo-persian, indo-etc. languages. but tamil, malayali, etc. have no indo-x part.

the reverence of the cow also has its origins in africa.

Hello all after some time.

Moshe, Hemantha, I'm all eyes open on Oddusudan. I would like to know how it happens. Since we have enough resources it is always good to get our new lot into another offensive task force bound to Oddusudan between 56th and 59th, than waiting for TF2, TF3 to get there [too far for them]. As I always feared the only open slot [opportunity] is available between 56th and 59th. Recent pussycat DPU operations entered from there. And as we can see, a breach of that point leaves the nearby sinhala villages and Trinco at great risk.

Still on Oddusudan, in my head, that comes after Paranthan. I do not think that we shud initiate EPS, but shud take advantage on their potential withdrawal. I am DEADLY against capturing Kilinochchi until the latter stage and even Mankulam for that matter. Boys need toys in their side too.

Again on Oddusudan, some of you stated that it is used as a DPU entry point by our lads. NO. It is one of such points. Do you think that DPU went all the way to Kilinochchi or Nachchikuda [before capture] from there. Having such stretch open surely leaves pussycats with chance of DPU, btw.

Patriots and Pussycats,

There seem to be a hard fought battle here in the comment list than in pooneryn. Mahen, Thiru, good on you mates. I salute your do-or-die spirit, which shud definitely be taken as inspiration to all the pussycat fighters who run after, say, fifth bullet is fired. Even when it seems all is lost you guys seem to hold on to the illogical arguments and one or two hot keys of your keyboards, eh? [I'm sure you got hot keys for "surprise", "warning", "jeyanthan", "27th Nov" etc].

Mahen, I'd like to give you one advice. I am not the kind who has a lot of time to keep on debating to convince you, so you can take it leave it or throw it back at me. My advice is that many pro-pussycat lads here have been shrewd enough not to give time lines. That is primarily because they are so uncertain how the game so lost, can change is such a fraction of time. i.e. they never trusted the "trusted network". You seem to have a diff level of trust on it. But my concern is that your promise of recapture of Nachchikuda by 27th may cause you not being able to hang around here after 27th Nov. Pls dont commit such time frames. We love to see you here often. Though I don't reply you often I like to see your posts and the others replies to them.

Apart from that I have nothing much to write to you guys, in diaspora. Ah you history knowledge is pure crap, but who cares, we do not draw borders of today as per the borders of homo erectus. History is only one factor and there are so many others. So you can hold onto whatever you think as history. No harm done to either party.

Patriots, I like to see you analyzing the dumb-asses more in a psychological view point.

ex:

- What makes mahen write those statements. how his mind works in coming up with a brave 27th nov deadline.

- How selva keeps on crying for a homeland to be delivered to his beggar plate, and tries to be as nice as possible to all of us [if Selva was a suicide bomber he will make history just before exploding himself, by saying. "This is the final notice from your loved suicide bomber. I am going to explode the bomb right now. Please stay where you are. Everyone sorry for any inconvenience"]

- The complex psycho of Bahiravaya. What makes the elements of his mind. How his Vellar mind despises the sakkili pighead of VP but still support "some sort of a separation".

I'd love to see you all walking in these lines. It is not just for the sake of occasional laugh, but THAT is the driving force of all the total menace called terrorism in SL. As I said sometime back VP and pussycats are mere symptoms.

Hope to see some analysis from you guys one day.

Chhers. Keep up the chit chat.

No matter what happens, if our boys are this good, and officers are brave and intelligent, LTTE can do anything they want, until they sleep in the grave yard.

Ugh, Mahen my dearest,

Do not make such short term notices. Maybe you should have said something like "We left Pooneryn stratergically but CA and IP will surely launch attack on it across Kilali in due course".

The risk you walk with is, your promises are short term, and they do not span the time needed for human minds to forget them. Tell me, how can you stand straight here, tomorrow.

It is not like selling houses with broken roofs you know. Your skills are quite different to the ground realities of a war.

Rana,

Hello howdy?

Blaming Mahen wont help his "course", he will further be dumbfound. Isn't is interesting to study the absolutely abnormal mind of his. How can one make the statements of this sort.

I wonder whether this Mahen lad has ever being to SL, or has got any pragmatic sense of war.

He thinks that issuing a warning will make it happen. Some superstitious ppl think that wishing something makes it happen. Mahen is a step ahead.

Shall we all start a study on Mahen? Maybe to come up with the best model to explain the internals of his mind [not the dirty sides, just those affect the funding and believing of pussycats].

The sad trith is, Mahen is unlikely to be around after 27th of Nov. So be quick.

it is either the SLAF's conduct is unacceptable or they were not given instructions to attack.

one possible reason may be a fear TAF may attack again in response to an SLAF attack.

this is crazy. The Chess players at Defence HQ are demonstrating their strategy and appear to be moving to check mate the LTTE. I expect things will move very quickly in the next two weeks.

Rana,
Enjoy the sinhala poetry please keep it coming.

Wijepala,
I am aware that there is considerable controversy regarding the dating of Sangham (Cankam) literature and the validity of a distinct (archeological) Tamilakam as opposed to that referred to in the Sangham literature.
The most parsimonious explanation for me is that all Southern literature such as Siyabaslakara and the Sangham type literature emerged roughly in the same period (mid 1st millennium) as a continuum of Buddhist and Jain opposition to to Sanskrit base of culture. The shift to use local script and dialects was (it seems) a mere extension of the original Buddhist idea of replacing Sanskrit with Prakrit.

Could you please provide your sources to support the theory that "Tamil" as a valid identity actually existed prior to its "rediscovery" in the mid to late 19th century.
(see the review of Books by Dubianski vs. Tiekens by Anne Monius- J. Asian Studies, Nov. 2006; 61, 4 pp 1404-1406)

To me its appears like common sense that people of South India and Sri Lanka have similar features and culture and languages. Modern science in genetics goes further and confirms that all of South Asia are one genetic stock and Brahmi the root script of all.

I would predict that when linguists and historian let go of their Eurocentric prejudices they will also see that there is no special "Dravidian" group of languages distinct from "Indo-European". That the "Dravidian" languages fit snugly among the Nostratic languages the proto form of which probably arose not very far from the subcontinent if not within it.

It is time to give up these artificial concepts of race and instead learn to enjoy the diversity which is South Asia. While I am for Unity in Diversity, what is not negotiable is dividing the Lankan nation on ethnic lines nor in accepting an invented history to suit caste-conscious racists. The country and its heritage belongs to all patriotic citizens.
