LTTE now only in Mulaitivu

The narrowest battleground in Sri Lanka where hundreds fell in previous operations, Muhamalai and Kilali, were captured this afternoon along with elephant pass. Palai still remains uncleared. The 53 and 58 are squeezing in on Palai. LTTE seems to have abandoned the area and retreated.

The 53 Advanced into a 500m2 area initially at Kilali and Muhamalai without much LTTE resistance. The 58, by that time, had reached the lagoon area at EPS.

Meanwhile resistance in Mulaitivu is growing. On 1st January, a massive counter attack broke the 59 Div FDL. 24 Ratha Regiment cadres were killed and another 8 captured, who also later died. 18 soldiers were also killed.

The police Special Task Force and members of the now 41,000 strong Civil Defence Force were deployed to guard the rear of the 59. Fighting is expected to intensify in this area.

TF 3 and 4 are also advancing steadily towards Iranamadu, Puthukudiirippu and Mullayaveli. They will join the 59 in further trapping the LTTE, which is probably 1,000-1,500 strong in Mulaitivu now.

India battling terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir.

May be a "political solution" should be attempted instead of military force!

ExpressBuzz.com

[Battle continues in Poonch
IANS 07 Jan 2009

JAMMU: The battle raging between militants and security forces in the mountainous forested area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir continued for the seventh day Wednesday and army officials said the intruders had tried to breach the security cordon laid around the area overnight.

Firing during Tuesday night and Wednesday morning indicated that the "terrorists are still present inside", Brigadier General Staff (BGS) of 16 corps Brig Gurdeep Singh told reporters at a press conference near Pati Tar area where the operation is still on.

The battle between security forces and militants in the forests in Mendhar area of Poonch erupted last Thursday. The army laid siege to the Pati Tar peak in the middle of a forest near Mendhar following a tip-off about the presence of a group of hard core militants in hideouts there. Some top commanders of Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfits are reported to be present in the hideouts.

An official had Tuesday said that the security forces had laid a "three-tier cordon around the dense forested area of Pati Tar" and that they would launch a commando assault to flush the terrorists out.

Brig. Singh said the militants had tried to breach the cordon Tuesday night, "but the troops fired at them, pushing them back into the jungle".

He said the exact number of militants hiding in the forests was not known. But Singh dismissed reports of them having built bunkers in the mountainous region.

"One thing is sure... there are no bunkers. The terrorists are using natural caves as their hideouts," the official said.

According to him, 350 soldiers were deployed around the area to carry out the operation.

Singh said there were no air strikes planned. "The army is capable enough to succeed in this operation. But it is not possible to tell how long it will take," he said.

Seven people - four militants and three security personnel - were killed in the first two days of the battle.

The army had recovered ammunition, communication equipment and ration from two hideouts busted last week.

Col. D.K. Kachari, spokesman of the Northern Command in Udhampur, had earlier said that the thick fog and the tough terrain were slowing their operation.

The forested area in Mendhar is on the map of traditional infiltration routes of militants sneaking into the Indian side from Pakistan across the Line of Control that divides Kashmir between the two countries.]

SIRASA" ATTACK BY OWN MASTER PLAN..............

Yes this is a very popular among the common people in SL. One more thing MZ, I heard from an internal source of their company that they have moved their new equipments to Slave island (one of their premises).

I guess lot of you guys aren't living in SL right :D ?
It was planned by them with utmost care as we who are living in SL could understand. Just try to attach the following parts,
1. Army captured Kili and MTV/MBC gave it a very low priority in their daily program set up when other public/private medias were acting very patriotically. (Swarnawahini, SLRC...)
2. President took over the Media ministry under his leadership.
3.There was a carefully planned discussion with Army Spokesperson and some Pro-LTTE people (like Wickramabahu..) on Sirasa FM just to influence that the SLDF did not capture Kili but did some political propaganda.
4.For the past week they reported that a White Van with thugs are trying to throw bombs at them but most IMPORTANTLY they did NOT asked for more security or even they didn't hire any private security firm if they really thought that some one is trying to attack them.
... and the list go on like that...
by the way I am not aware of the understanding that the international community has on this issue (well you can make me informed on that) but apart from the born idiots, we all know that Sirasa did burned themselves and now screaming like a set of monkeys.

"Political Solution" is another War Gambit.

Please see the following extract from Sebastian Rasalingam who opposes excessive devolution to the Provinces:

"Consider one of the devolved regions - presumably run by a provincial council. If the Thimpu Tamils were to have it their way, it would be an upper-caste/upper-class Tamil from the Thimpu set who will get himself elected to power. Even if the Thimpu Tamils fail to get a place under the domination of the Rajapaksa regime, we would certainly end up with some regional war lord who would easily subject himself to Tamil Naadu money bags like a modern day Nedumaran. Such regional lords will have little regard for the problems of the local Tamils. The low caste Tamils, the poor Tamils and peasants have always been suppressed by self-serving Tamil leaders. The hierarchic nature of Tamil society is so ingrained that, when the present Fascist structure imposed by the LTTE disappears, then old hierarchic structure would
re-appear. In fact, a political pamphlet circulated among the Tamils under the title "Son of Eros" already talks of imposing the Hindu hierarchic systems in the Post-Prabakaran era."

India is battling Naxalite rebels in 13 states

By the standards applied to Sri Lanka by Tamil Nadu, this seems to be a case of state sponsored "discrimination" & "genocide" against perfectly innocent people demanding "self-determination"? Shouldn't "political solutions" be attempted instead of military force?

[Chidambaram to chair meeting of Maoist-hit states

IANS 06 Jan 2009

NEW DELHI: Home Minister P. Chidambaram will chair a meeting with the chief ministers of Maoist-hit states to separately address their problems in the war against terrorism.

"The Naxalite (Maoist) affected states have their own problems. I will be again meeting them tomorrow," Chidambaram said at a press conference after an almost eight-hour long conference of chief ministers on internal security.

"I will be spending half a day with them," the home minister added.

According to a home ministry report, 13 of India's states are affected by Maoist violence. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkahand are the most affected states.

Just how serious the situation is can be gauged from the fact that Maoist rebels in Jharkhand struck at their will in 2008, killing a legislator and several police officials and hijacking a bank delivery van.

For the Jharkhand police, 2008 was a bad year in comparison to 2007. The year saw a total of 405 Maoist-related incidents, up from 278 in 2007. A total of 39 security personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, were killed against 11 in 2007, according to police data.

The police said they succeeded in killing 99 Maoists over the year against 60 in 2007. Police officials claimed that more rebels were killed in 2008, but they were rarely able to recover the bodies of the rebels killed.

At the same time, the number of civilians killed went down in 2008 to 148 civilians, against 175 in 2007. Of them, 39 were termed police informers by the Maoists and killed, up from 27 killed in 2007 for the same reason.

In Bihar, more policemen rather than Maoist rebels have been killed in over 100 gun battles in the last five years, police officers said.

A police officer in the state home department said that in the last five years, there were 130 shoot-outs in Bihar between the police and the activists of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), in which 76 policemen and 63 rebels were killed.

In Andhra Pradesh, however, Maoist violence touched its lowest ebb ever in 2008 with a 30 percent decline in extremist activities during the year as compared to 2007, said K. Arvind Rao, additional director general of police (intelligence).

Though the state's elite anti-Maoist force Greyhounds lost its 38 personnel in a major ambush by Maoists in neighbouring Orissa, the Andhra police managed to keep the Maoist activity in check through intensive combing operations Rao added.

The New Delhi conclave was held to take stock of the various measures taken on the security and intelligence gathering and sharing fronts in the wake of the Nov 26-29 Mumbai terror attacks that claimed more than 170 live, including those of 26 foreigners.]

Finally, an explicitly clear, no-nonsense statement from the US regarding the war.

Nice to see them depart from their usual spiel of urging us to talk to the tigers.

despite the election of obama, i wonder what were the real underlying factors for this change of heart? is it the new blood at the state department? but then again, they too rely mostly on what their guys at the embassy in colombo update them on. then, who is it at the embassy who has started pressing all the right buttons?

nevertheless, it is the most clearest indication to date that even washington sees it as "game over" for the terrorists.

Yes, I live abroad.

As far as I am aware the foreign media is up in arms about the attack on Sirasa (it was headline news in BBC and Yahoo) and the pro LTTE dieasspora are gaining maximum propoganda mileage by claiming that Tamil owned businesses and "independent" media are being attacked in Sri Lanka. BBC Sinhala is giving this story the most coverage above all other stories.

I am pretty sure that Sirasa did it themselves, but with the track record of idiots like Mervyn attacking SLBC and other media personnel, the foreign media and the general public are convinced that this is the work of the government / army. It is upto our government to prove otherwise.

Me and a few other patriots based here were tuned into listen to the Presidential address on the day Kili was captured on Sirasa FM online as all other Sri Lankan online radio channels were crashing due to bandwidth problems. Sirasa was working fine and at 4pm we expected them to broadcast the President's message, they didn't do it and were broadcasting jolly tunes and songs. Sirasa got what they deserve.

PS, the only Sirasa programme I enjoy is Api Nodanna Live, that too has become lame of late as those two chuti nangi baduwas (not!) have ruined it.

TS is dead now, Karuna flying high having given everything in his strength to see that prabakaran loses everything he has.

----------------------------------------
Taraki said that the ability of LTTE to create elam is in their ability to perform as a conventional army that can take on SLA at any given time and condition.

Taraki is dead now and LTTE has been reduced to a mere guerilla unit with less than 2000 cardres fighting for mere survival

----------------------------------------------------

Anton Bala said that the LTTE agreed to a ceasefire with the GOSL out of sympathy cos SLA and GOSL cannot fight with the mighty LTTE

Anton Bala is dead now and LTTE has lost almost every major base sans Mulaitivu and massive nubers of their experience cardre is dead or maimed.

Prabakaran`s war machine destroyed-Karuna in Parliament
Wednesday, 7 January 2009 - 5:14 AM SL Time

Vinayagamoorti Muralitharan, MP, told in parliament yesterday that due to the methodical and effective military strategy of the Army Commander and the battle planners of the SLDF, Prabakaran`s war capability is finally over. Mr. Muralitharan further said that Prabakaran who started running with the start of Mavil Aru operations is now holed up in the Mulaitivu jungles with some 1500 cardres who are left over. He added that even though the LTTE tried recruiting another 5000 anew, they only succeeded in recruiting only some 150 cardre.

He made a spelling mistake and called them "aboriginals", then I made fun of him. He corrected himself and made an even worse spelling mistake by calling them "aubergines". Aubergines means vambutu. So I made fun of him even more, everyone started calling him "Vambutu Puli" and I changed my profile pic in his honour. Vambutu Puli has been his monicker or "card" ever since.

Vambutu Puli hardly comes here now, mainly for fear of being attacked by me.

It is always easy to see the problem with others and not problem with ourselves.

I have been labeled as unpatriotic to showing our weaknesses. I do so, so that people can fix our own issues and become even stronger.

If you have experienced SL university culture, it is always a very small number of students calling shots for violence and strikes. It is the same with Tamils as well as Sinhalese as a nation.

I have seen writings on other forums where people discuss irrational behavior towards some people here.

Therefore, the GOSL is killing Eelam civilians with impunity and immunity as the Eelam struggle is being ignored by the international community. "either be part of it or leave it and live in exile as you are doing now"

It is exactly your type of exclusionary politics and discrimination that has led us to take up arms and support our supreme commander in the liberation struggle. How dare you insinuate that I abandon my Eelam homeland? Who are you to say who should be and should not be citizens of Eelam?

Infinity,

If we were to believe GOSL propoganda, then the strength of the LTTE is -25,000. Please don't embarass yourself by quoting defence.lk, just friendly advice.

Selva, 25,000? Source please Fonseka said 13,000 LTTE killed and 7000-8000 wounded in November 2008.

SL government sources, while not perfect, are certainly better than than those from a hereditary dictatorship excluding democracy on principle by claiming to be a "sole representative". As well as having denied the tamils in the territory they control all forms of human rights like freedom of expression, movement, and association. Can you say anything good the LTTE has done to the tamils to compensate for this oppression and the suicide bombers, the chlld soldiers, and the lack of economic development?

Malin said...

Selva Did I asked you not to be a Tamil? Or not to worship you’re GOD? What I ask you was not to claim something what was never yours..

There might have been Tamil kingdoms in the past but there was Sinhala kingdoms too which ruled the whole island. So I maybe right to say that this land doesn’t belong to Tamils nor does Sinhalese. We all live in this land so this belongs to every one of us.

That’s why I asked you to be a Sri Lankan. If you want to hang on to your Elam that’s your wish but don’t expect any support from us.

Anyone who works against the unity of this nation is a regarded as a traitor... may it come Sinhala, Tamil or Muslim.. And there is no place for people like that in this land..

So be part of United Sri Lanka and work for prosperous future for everyone.. Or one day die knowing you’re a exile without a homeland..

Selva
Here are your choices:
1) Kneel down and renounce violence and Elelam.
2) Prepared to form Eelam 3 feet under.

There is NO room for Eelam in Sri Lanka. You have been surrounded, out numbered greatly, and you have no where to go. This is no time for Eelam talk.

If you insist on an Eelam, we will invade you, take your land and rights away, and push you into the sea.

I hope I made myself clear.

Selva,

"Who are you to say who should be and should not be citizens of Eelam?"

I am a citizen of Sri Lanka and you are asking for part of my country for the exclusive ownership of one ethnic minority. You aks for 50% of power and we are not going to give it away. You ask for 1/3rd of the land and 2/3rd of the coastline and we are not going to give it away. You take weapons and wage a terrorist war, and we are not going to give it away. However, as a Tamil Sri Lankan, you are most welcome to live equally and peacefully among the rest of Sri Lankans. Should you choose not to do so, we are ready to fight for decades to come until we eliminate all the terrorists from our homeland.

Moshe Dayan,

An article entitled "Tigers in Dunkirk-type evacuation from Jaffna Peninsula" dated
January 6th, 2009

at dbsjeyaraj.com

says the following about the abandonment of the previous plan of the LTTE to remain and fight at the N-M-K Jaffna front:

[Suddenly, a change of plan seems to have occurred. “Why” ? is yet an unknown.

A plausible reason may be the belated realisation that the army could move further east of the A-9 in a push parallel to the A-35 or Paranthan-Mullaitheevu road and seal off the coastal areas adjacent to the Chundikulam lagoon.

If and when that happened the existing supply route to the peninsula would be knocked out, rendering entrapped cadres in the peninsula vulnerable.]

This is the strategy I had recommended to expel and/or cutoff the LTTE from the Jaffna peninsula in several previous posts at this blog.

It should be broadcast repeatedly, so that Velu and Pottu also get to know of the offer.

Psy ops; 'Paranoia' should be the name of the game..
