But anyway, it occured to me that we could have a mandatory statement to sign when someone lands at the Katunayaka airport, stating that he/she has never taken part or has supported any terrorist activities. Ofcourse everyone would say that, but in those cases, we can use the videos and stuff from LTTE support gatherings for appropriate people and atleast get them on the charge that they lied on that statement and hopefully send them packing.

You are one reason I stuck with this blog. I am sure many would agree although they may interpret you differently to me.
I educated my-self a lot reading different perspectives of the issue by reading quite a few admirable people. I did not care their style of writing. That has never changed. Sooner than later direct battle field maters bound to cease. But we need to maintain that hard fought peace in the country we love. That, we all know would not last long if our Tamil people are marginalized. That, I feel even the most ardent fans of the current military victories would not disagree.
As I have mentioned sometime ago – when it come to Sinhalese-Tamil existence on the land the prejudice and accumulated hurt have been stuck in a vicious cycle. All what the agitators and opportunists had to do was, simply to milk it to their liking. What needs is to find instruments of getting out of this cycle and more importantly not to pass it to younger generation. Our generation would possibly be best placed to shoulder this responsibility as we grew up and acquired the beauty of celebrating in cultural diversity. We need actions on ground. Not mere words. I hope progressive people from both sides would come together on this. We, who live abroad, could/should contribute towards that. Ananda-USA (with Moshe I guess) initiative, for example, meeting false Tamil die-ass-pora propaganda head-on is a good project. Only, if it does not cross the line and Sinhalese-die-ass-pora become ugly and un-true as what we are currently seeing from LTTE die-ass-pora.
For example, this “Genocide” card they play is bull crap. If they succeed in that I think us Sinhalese and moderate Tamils will have our hands full. That will be the next battle.

As Upul rightly points out the SLAF-HQ is reduced to rubble. The navy video which shows the continuous flight path of the plane has been altered to omit the part which blows the 3-4 story building to rubble. Reliable sources say that this particular destroyed building can only be viewed from inside the HSZ so there is no way for the outsiders to see the damage. This attack was the most successful TAF attack out of all the 6 or 7 'devastating' attacks they carried out.

Ok Presuming that the conventional phase ends soon, and that VP and the head honchos escapes the SLDF cordon, where are they likely to hide till things settle down?
For VP I would say his physical presence in Tamil areas is a must if the LTTE is to remain as a single entity-- I would expect him to continually move around the vanni mass with a very small retinue, and stay out of sight for 6mts-1 year;
Soosai,Pottu and older/injured fellows like Balakumaran may already be lying low abroad--to recuperate both themselves and their orgs.
Commanders like Theepan,etc would prob find sanctuary in the East for maybe a year b4 venturing back..
Small teams of Leopards or such remnants will prob operate throughout( a la Yala)the wanni to harass the SLA and prevent Govt projects.
It will probably take 2-3 years for LTTE to have a secure chain of command as a guerilla outfit after the coming chaos..

Colombo , Feb 22 Was the LTTE&aposs suicide air strikes bombing the Sri Lankan capital a copy-cat 9/11 attack?.
The aerial attack by the Tamil Tigers has brought to the fore this question as they claim that the two Czech-made Zilin 143 aircraft sent by them were on a suicide mission and not meant to return.
Sri Lankan news websites have reported that the two-light wing LTTE aircraft which attacked Colombo were on a suicide mission similar to the September 11, 2001 (9/11) attack in the US.
But, the Sri Lankan Government, which claims that it is on the verge of defeating the Tamil Tigers, says it wasn&apost a suicide attack and it had shot down the aircraft.
The pro- LTTE TamilNet.Com yesterday said the aircraft dived into Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Headquarters in Colombo and into the SLAF base at Katunayaka at around 0915 pm Friday night carrying out"successful"air raids.
TamilNet.Com also published a photograph of the two suicide pilots together with Tamil Tigers supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran said to have been taken shortly before they set off on the suicide mission.
That the aircraft were on a suicide mission is confirmed by the fact that both the planes were laden with 210 kg of explosives.
The LTTE is the only militant organisation in the world to posses an airwing.

What would diaspora expect to happen if VP gets killed?

I would say 2nd case you mention is also equal to what I said about diaspora wishes.

The 2nd airplane also certainly shot down by ground AAA units and NOT by SLAF Fighters as widely reported..F-7's a Mig-27 were scrambled but for a different target,probably the 3rd mysterious aircraft seen popping in and out of radars and also to bomb the takeoff area of the tiger aircraft
Bofors L-70 40mm upgraded AAA with radar-assist plus several 20 and 23mm AAA units would have done the trick for the 2nd airplanes downing(although amazingly the plane and pilot seem pretty much intact),as if the pilot was gonna do a belly landing or something:)
Even though the mission of the Tigers was unsuccesful it should be pointed out that this particular mission was indeed a do-or-die suicide mission to cause maximum carnage with a flying bomb, a la 9/11 inspired method..

this plane and the other was indeed hit by AA fire and no other means, with regard to the katunayake downing the pilot was not only hit in the arm but on the right hand side chest as well.. this lead to his death and therfore the crash landing..

The terrorism wrought on 9/11 and thereafter( before as well) in both the developed and no less in the developing world has opened the eyes of the world to this threat by non-state actors in the 21st century. In this context Pakistan government’s agreement with banned Tehrik Shariat-e-Nifaza Muhammad( TSNM) to the introduction of Sharia law in Swat valley and parts of NWFP has caused concern among the US, NATO, UK and many others. Amnesty International, for example, has asked Pakistan authorities to ensure protection of human rights of nearly two million people in Swat and neighboring Malakand district. But given the past activities of the Taliban in Swat in the destruction of music/video shops, canning of unbearded people, warning women not to go out of the house unless accompanied by a male member of the family, and destruction of schools for women the appeal of Amnesty International is unlikely to be listened to.

About your blog; What about adding as article on peace talks. In 82 all agreed to district councils; Then TULF (now TNA) who had vast majority of NE votes from 77 election fully agreed. Its good present good analysis of all peace talks. When, where, why LTTE did that and how they strengthen their military wing during talks and how they escape from talks each time.
Another topic would be analysing the behavior of int. media and other INGOs.

"The death toll of yesterday's LTTE massacre of civilians in a rural village in Inginiyagala of Ampara District in the Eastern province has risen to 21, the Media Center for National Security said.
The LTTE attack of the villagers which came at the heels of a failed air attack over capital Colombo by the LTTE air wing on Friday night injured another 20 civilians. According to the police the dead includes three children. The injured including 5 children are still receiving treatment at Ampara hospital. Few of the injured are in life threatening conditions.
Suspected LTTE cadres hacked to death and killed 8 chena farmers in the village of Karamatiyawa in Inginiyagala on the spot. The others have succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
STF is not up to the standard set on by SLA. We need to guard the entire FDL more vigilantly.
Those two planes must have come from a place outside the island because to travel that distance they may have fitted extra fuel tanks and no bombs to increase range and if it was a one way trip then the clever deduction could be the distance travelled could be from Andaman Island or Burma and on their outward journey must have been used to take one or two VIPs out to that place. Hearing planes coming out of the uncleared areas may not be accurate perhaps it was our own aircraft they heard. If they have originated from PTK they would have used it’s air assets to the full by carrying and dropping some bombs in an important target before committing suicide which was not possible due to the range they would have travelled without bombs from a faraway place. If it is so they might invest on a better crop duster with a longer range with a substantial payload in a future attack.So we must expect attacks from abroad.
