Rathnam Master's last stand

Task Force 8 finally reached the Puthukudirippu junction yesterday. Fighting still continues in the major part of the town as the density of LTTE fighters has increased due to loss of terrain.

Advance of FIBUA units is conducted at dawn or dusk as Tigers occupying civilian houses and public buildings direct heavy volumes of 12.7mm and mounted 23mm and 30mm canon fire at the advancing units. Often taking cover inside buildings is hazardous due to trappings.

Many of the infamous LTTE leaders have all been relegated now. The man leading the battle against the Army is Rathnam Master, the LTTE's head of Military Intelligence. Rathnam Master was a personal bodyguard of Prabha and perhaps his closest and most capable commander right now. With orders to shoot any deserters, Rathnam Master's ruthlesness seems to be keeping the other Tiger leaders in line.

The former head of LTTE Military Intelligence, Charles was killed by Major Lalith Jayasinghe, 3 Special Forces Special Reconnaissance/LRRP. Poddu Amman and Kapil Amman are the respective heads of the LTTE's Secret Intelligence.

Unlike Secret Intelligence units, Military Intelligence teams of the LTTE have always been distinguished by a strike capability. This means that not only do they collect intelligence but act on that intelligence as one unit.

Many of the successful LTTE attacks in government controlled areas were coordinated by this unit. The only compatible unit in the Army to LTTE Military Intelligence was the SP/LRRP teams who operated with Army Intelligence units (MIC).

Rathnam Master wasn't identified for years due to the secretive nature of his operational engagements. Poddu Amman's image was released by the media and Kapil Amman, a baldheaded middleaged man was identified some time ago as well. But a photo of Rathnam Master wasn't found until two weeks ago when an album abandoned by the Tigers gave away his identity.

Rathnam Master was the man behind the Anuradhapura airbase and Vavuniya SFHQ attacks. The Army has been studying him for years, particularly since he was appointed the head of Ratha Regiment, Prabha's own protection unit and special operations group.

Wow!
That mean, Al Qaida can hire LTTE Terrorists in NY to kidnap someone and make demands without even arriving in US.

As always, LTTE provide innovate methods to the Terrorists world.

Kasthuri sad...

However, Ananda disagreed with me. His basic idea was to be auspices with India and develop defence systems to match India.

Kasthuri, you are misrepresenting my declared views.

My basic idea was to develop defense systems sufficient to fend off India in collaboration with many other allies. It was NOT TO MATCH India totally 1-1 in weapons systems because that is impractical. The reason for doing so is that we cannot always depend on the goodwill of India, as our recent history has demonstrated; we must develop a combination of internal military strength and external alliances to make certain that our friendship towards India is not abused again as in the past.

I also said that we must not allow ANY COUNTRY to dominate Sri Lanka either militarily or economically, including our other non-Indian allies.

We must always place ourselves in a position where we have MANY OPTIONS. Countries don't have permanent friendships, they have permanent national interests in the pursuit of which their friendships change.

That is what I said before, and that is what I am saying now; it has not changed.

Kasthuri,

No need to refer to me as "master," let's leave that to Schizo Sam and Puffy Pete.

"Could you please elaborate critically with details on discrimination charge made by SL Tamils against majority Sinhala people without referring to communal violence that happened time to time from 1950 to 1983?"

The communal violence was the most important factor which led to the rise of the LTTE because it affected all Tamils relatively equally- the jathika thugs did not distinguish between Batticaloa or Jaffna Tamils, or high/low castes. All were "para demala."

1956 Sinhala-Only has often been cited as a major policy which alienated the Tamils, and to an extent that is true given that Chelvanayagam's ITAK ("Federal Party") only became popular after 1956- it had gotten few votes before Sinhala-Only. However, only the upper-caste elites who knew English were adversely affected by the change from English to Sinhala- nothing really changed for those who only spoke Tamil. Note that the lower-castes supported the leftist parties like CP, LSSP etc. before the war, and not really ITAK or TULF.

Standardization led Jaffna youth to create the first militant groups, but they were small and virtually nonexistent in other parts of the country. Standardization actually benefited Tamils living outside Jaffna and Colombo.

The eastern Tamils, unlike the northern Tamils were very sensitive about the demographics of their region, because they formed a plurality not a majority in Eastern Province. Government settlement of Sinhalese in the east after 1977 (and especially after 1983, when JR's govt used force to drive out Tamils in parts of the N-E) helped push them towards militancy.

*/

You are quite correct about GGP. He later joined UNP and even talked against NE merger. He thought Tamils will be marginalised from the nations progress.

However, as anything things are not this simple. GGP was advocating a seperate 'dravidian' identity for Tamils. He rejected DS Senanayake's common Ceylon identity. It was GGP that drove SWRD to form Sinhala Maha sabas all over the country as a response to GGP overt racism. GGP was the one who first triggered racial riots in 1939 calling Sinhalese a 'race of mongrals'.

Afer having done all these things he changes his stratergy to co-operation with the Sinhalese would get better results. He forgets to clean up the mess he creates. He leaves ACTC and its remnants form FP to take up the seperate identity policy. Unfortunaltey for Tamils, it was right wing Chelvanayagam that fills this void.

Now its true Sinhala only 1956 is the watershed period for Ceylon. It was a mistake by SWRD which alienates most Tamils driving them towards the FP. The reason was again fear and anger of Sinhalese politicins that drives them in this directin.

You have to remmember Sinhala nationalism only rises in times of need for slef-perservation, whereas Tamil nationalism is one based purely on ego and self importance.

Tamil nationalism however is only isolated to the upper casts. The other more reaonsable Tamils are the one who face descrimination mostly becuase of Tamil Vellaha egotism and the resulting Sinhala fear and anger.

This is the latest talk in town.

As we all know, the plan of the terrorists who attacked the Sri Lankan team had been to take the entire team hostage. Latest reports say that the terrorists didn’t target the bus and if the terrorists wanted to attack the bus, they would have easily attacked the bus. What they wanted is to kill all security personal that were providing security to the team and to kill the bus driver and to drive away the bus.

The talk is that, the LTTE hired these terrorists and after taking the team hostage, to put demands to the Lankan government to release the Cricketers. God knows what the demands was to be, but for sure a cease-fire.

This is what the Indian proposed at DW, and I agreed that seemed very likely. He said LTTE-Taliban, and I said LTTE-RAW.

I just read two newspaper articles today:

1. "Ambush Unnerves Pakistanis" By Rizwan Ali and Chris Btummitt, Associated Press.

This article has a photo of weapons abandoned by the terrorists including two rocket launchers (not RPGs), grenades, AK-47s etc. More importantly, it quotes Pakistan Interior Ministry Chief Rehman Malik as saying hostage taking and hijacking the vehicle seemed to be a part of the plan judging from their "preparatyions." All gunmen escaped in Lahore.

2. "6 Police die in Attack on Sri Lankan athletes" By Jane Perez and Waqar Gilliani, New York Times.

This article quotes Haji Habibur Rehman, police chief in Lahore, as saying that the 12 gunmen were in their early 20s, were bearded resembling Pashtuns from the Northwest Frontier Province, apparently suggesting they were Taliban militants from tribal areas. Another police official, Shoab Janbaz, is quoted as saying that a RPG was fired but missed the motorcade and failed to explode.

My own take on the Pashtun appearance of the men is that it could be an obvious disguise to throw suspicion on the Taliban, by non-Taliban assailants.

Thusitha,

Thanks for responding.

"1) Perception of Injustice done by Sinhalese. Tamils should take periods (such as 1800 -1900, 1900-1950, 1950-2000) etc. and then figure how monorities were treated by people of ther countries. Then should compare how we treated Tamils. Then it would be clear we haven't treated them that bad."

We only need to look at one of those three periods- 1950-2000. While I agree that minorities in some countries had it much worse, it is also true that minorities in other countries had it much better.

Because minorities tend to be treated as 2nd-class citizens, it is pretty normal for them to not be "patriotic" (a term that ultimately is defined by the majority). Michelle Obama had gotten in trouble during the presidential campaign for saying, "this is the first time I am proud of my country."

Given how some jackasses here are prancing about with "patriot" label, perhaps it's not so bad that the Tamils are not that way.

"2) Teach Tamils what actually equal rights means. Lot of Tamils seems to be confused by what is meant by equal rights."

Would you agree or disagree that there are a lot of Sinhalese who also seem to be confused by what is meant by equal rights?

"Try to create Tamil leaders who try to promote the well being of Tamil people instead of trying to promote Eelam who is acceptable to Sinhalese as well."

How do we do that?

Sorry mate, I have missed it.

Firstly, some couldn't believe SL team was attacked and secondly, its said it was cross fire. Finally, none could find a reason. ANd you can see LTTE elements (Navindran) trying to fill this vacoom by their propaganda which basically saying MR send SL team just to keep PK happy and get arms risking players lives despite security warnings. Also, many questions level of security given by PK pointing finger to PK and there by risking relationship with PK which is our friend. Also, trying to accusing RAW is also bad specially if they are not involved. Its up to PK government to investigate and punish the killers. That may take time. In SL context we credit every crime of this nature to LTTE account and people in SL was in trouble finding an account to credit this. This is where this story comes handy.

Its said they found high protein chocolate, water etc from the site; and that suggests they were aiming for a long time drama. What if they kill the cops and then kidnap the team and take them as hostages and demand MR to stop the war or CFA or pull back of SLA...? Given the love of mass to the team MR will be in deep trouble. In fact, LTTE don't need to negotiate by themselves rather they can use some (fake) front organization (say, stop genocide in SL..). In this way, LTTE can easily deny as usual.

People need a reason.. scenario.. and we got it.

I don't agree. Sri Lankans gained a communalistic sense of identity ever since 1833 when the British established representation for natives based on ethnicity (starting with 1 Sinhala, 1 Tamil, 1 Burgher representatives). You can't solely blame GG or SWRD for that, also they played that card to get votes.

SWRD's Sinhala Maha Sabha was the coming together of sections of Sinhala society marginalized by the British- Sinhala vs English medium teachers, Buddhist monks vs Christian missionaries, ayurvedic practitioners vs Western doctors, native (Sinhala) workers vs British-imported S. Indian "scabs" (by the early 20th century). I have seen no evidence that it was a response to GG or "Dravidianism." I still haven't come across the 1939 riots in any literature out there- you would think that the Eelamists would have picked it up with glee.

"Now its true Sinhala only 1956 is the watershed period for Ceylon. It was a mistake by SWRD which alienates most Tamils driving them towards the FP. The reason was again fear and anger of Sinhalese politicins that drives them in this directin.

"

Your 2nd paragraph where you say Tamil nationalism is based purely on ego, contradicts the 1st where you say that the Tamils had been alienated. If I were to go by your 1st paragraph, I would say that Tamil nationalism too had been driven by self-preservation.

What is undeniable is the fact that both Sinhala and Tamil nationalism, regardless of whether they were motivated by sincere self-preservation, had been hijacked by politicians for their personal benefit. That is why ethno-nationalism is dangerous and can ultimately ruin the people it claims to represent.

Ananda, you have hit the nail right on the head.

I could see a lot of anti RAW\Indian sentiments here and I can perfectly understand that. But the bonhomie with Pak\China also has to be treaded carefully.

Every nation acts with only one intent - Its Geo political wield, nothing more\nothing less

Pak\China want to keep India in tender hooks in the south too, hence building a relationship with GoSL.Once this war ends, then it will be really interesting to see what they both need from GoSL and how the GoSL handles it.

In my assumption,I suspect strongly that China could most probably have a continuing presence in Srilank through some form to check India. Will the GoSL be ready for such presence is something which we need to wait & watch.

Ofcourse this could be avoided,if Srilanka is self sufficient as suggested by Ananda.

As far Pak is concerned,it seems the day is not very far when the same fate of Afghan falls on Pak as welle.Thats something that India can definitely do without. We dont want a crumbled state in our North west. But unfortunately that day seems to be nearer. Its a cause for concern for the entire world as unlike Afghan Pak has nuclear weapons as well.If it falls in the wrong hands, its curtains

likely perpitrators of the lahore attack,

1. an (islamic) militant group by its own initiative

motive was to impose their sadistic bullshit across pakistan. sports obviously stands in the way!!

or to get international attention.

2. a militant group at the request of the LTTE

if this is so, things are going to get really nasty around the world. "you kill my enemy, i kill your enemy" is a very successful strategy used by murderers in some parts of the world. VERY difficult to prove links, intention, motive.

the world should learn from this that terrorism anywhere is terrorim everywhere.

hostage taking or otherwise.

3. a militant group abeted by RAW, other indian agencies

obviously to damage SL-pak relationships but it won't work.

4. a militant group abeted by ISI, other pak agencies

to put the blame on india. to be used as a terrorist "excuse" to carryout similar attacks in future

A Tiger-Made Crisis - WSJ 25/Feb/09

Sri Lanka's government stands firm against terrorists using civilian human shields.

>From today's Wall Street Journal Asia.

The Sri Lankan government is steadily gaining ground against the terrorist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, and an end to that country's 26-year-old civil war may finally be in sight.

Now the United Nations, European Union and U.S. worry about a looming humanitarian crisis in the conflict zone. With the Tigers reportedly holding civilians hostage as human shields, Colombo has few good options.

But the worst would be to stop now.

The army says it has the Tigers cornered in a 24-square-mile patch in the Northern Province. But as many as 250,000 civilians, most of them innocent Tamils, may be trapped in that zone.

While the government has tried to establish routes for them to leave and is providing camps for those who do, the Tigers reportedly refuse to allow the majority of these civilians out. They're too valuable as human shields, and as PR tools.

The government's options are either to push forward in the knowledge there will be civilian casualties or to heed international calls for a break in the fighting for a few days in the hopes the Tigers will allow the civilians out. Colombo insists it must keep the pressure on the Tigers, especially when it's so close to victory.

This week has seen renewed calls from the U.N., the EU and the U.S. for a temporary pause in fighting to allow civilians to flee. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Monday that the U.N. "would strongly support a suspension of fighting." Also Monday, a conclave of European foreign ministers in Brussels called for an immediate cease-fire while a State Department spokesman said Washington "want[s] to see" Colombo and the Tigers "discuss ways to end the hostilities."

The danger is that any let-up in the assault will give the Tigers time to regroup, thus extending the conflict and the civilian suffering even longer.

A reminder of the danger the Tigers still can pose came with Friday's kamikaze aerial attack on Colombo with two small planes. That attack also casts doubt on the sincerity of the request for a cease-fire the Tigers issued Monday, especially since that proposal didn't include a promise to lay down their arms.

Nor is there any guarantee the Tigers would honor a break in the fighting, let alone allow the civilians to leave. The last time a formal cease-fire was negotiated, in 2002, the Tigers spent the following four years violating it frequently.

Tiger leaders must also be keenly aware that their human shields are their last remaining "defense" against a Sri Lankan army better equipped and trained than any in the country's modern history.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa's military offensive has made more progress against the Tigers than any effort in the past 26 years.

The civil war has come at a high cost in Sri Lankan blood and treasure, a cost that may grow as this offensive reaches its conclusion.

But the cost of stepping back from the fight would be higher still.

I could see a lot of anti RAW\Indian sentiments here and I can perfectly understand that.

Regarding mistrust of India/RAW, I fervently wish it were otherwise! We all know what India the grievous harm India has inflicted on Sri Lanka; therefore, Sri Lanka has must be cautious, putting the welfare of its people ahead of everything else. The blind trust we placed in India earlier turned out to be our undoing. Now, we have to forget all that, and be very smart for our survival.

Let me tell you how I feel about India. We Sinhala people of Sri Lanka view India as our AryaBhumi. The land from which our ancestors came, our religion arose, and was gifted to us by that great Dharmishta Emperor Dharma-Asoka of India. When we want to go on pilgrimage...it is to Saranath, Patna, Benares etc in India. Therefore, as a people, we identify with the aspirations of India, and wish India and all of its people the very best of everything.

I remember my father, who was involved in Sri Lanka's politics and struggle for freedom from the British, reading to the small boy that was me, the book "Great Men of India" and Nerhu's letters to Indira from Prison, as my father lay sick in bed during his last year of life. When Mahatma Gandhi visited Sri Lanka and spoke to the people, my father translated from English to Sinhala right on the podium. He told me about Gandhi and his nonviolent struuggle for India's freedom. My father embedded in my mind a different version of history of the world, an indigenous non-Anglicized Indian-Sri Lankan version. My grandmother was the Secretary of the Maha Bodhi Society, and she was committed heart-and-soul to restoring places of Buddhist worship in India. These things, my mother continued, and our home had frequent house guests from all parts of India come to tour places of Buddist worship and learning in Sri Lanka. I had ample contact with these people and their small children.

All of these things, and more, inculcated in me a love of all things Indian. In this, I don't think I am different from many other Sinhala people, or even Tamil Sri Lankans who trace their heritage to India also. Given these attitudes, our recent experience with India is one of great sorrow and the disruption of a close and valued relationship, to us Sri Lankans, akin to a dispute between a father and a son. But, the son must now do whatever is necessary to protect itself and survive in the future, irrespective of what an irrational father does.

Anonymous call behind Lahore 3/3: Reports
NDTV Correspondent
Thursday, March 05, 2009, (Lahore)
An anonymous call made the police in Lahore change the route of the bus taking the Sri Lankan cricket team to the Gaddafi Stadium.

According to Pakistan media reports, the caller asked the police to use the Gulberg route instead of travelling along Ferozpur road as had been decided earlier.

Sources have said that the police followed the caller's instructions without ascertaining his identity, which led to the police falling into the trap.

Friends, Mates and distant Friends,

When two are bulls are trying to test their horns, best for others to ignore it. Don’t waste your time on trivial things. We have better things to do.

Our heroic forces are marching towards eastern coast. 58 Division is already at the eastern periphery of Puthukudirruppu. Task Force 8 is also closely following 58.

Troops of 58 Division and Task Force 8 after liberating Puthukkudiyiruppu have commenced an eastward thrust towards the coast, defence sources reveal. The LTTE terrorists lost the last town under their clutches as Puthukkudiyiruppu fell to the Sri Lankan soldiers yesterday (Mar 3).
According to the battlefield reports, 58 Division soldiers have pushed their forward boundary further east of the Puthukkudiyiruppu junction this evening (Mar 4). Following clashes ensued since this morning, troops have collected four bodies of LTTE cadres, one Rocket Propeller Grenade Launcher (RPG) and four T-56 riffles. --- Defence.lk

As I have predicted last week it takes more time than what brig. Shawendra thought due to civilian factor.
Our foreign dignitaries are pleased with facilities provided at IDP centers.
Every thing is working on our favour and LTTE has the Murphy’s Law acting on them.
Murphy’s law : If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong at the worst time!

Hope fully some one attach to SLA or DW could shed some more light on this

We should start with making computers available almost 24x7 in schools and public libraries.

Every small town should have such a public library available to both children and adults, and a instructor (teacher/librarian) always available to help.

This is already in motion the nanasala concept by the ICTA Sri lanka .At the moment there are apx 585 nanasalas which provides ICT facilities to rural areas

As you can see in SL ground work is set to take the nation to the next level we could concentrate more on these areas but we need to finish LTTE and tamil separatism once and for all i have great faith in SL that we are going to come out of this mess in style and with in 05-10 years we should be able to take this country to a commendable position our advantage the basic facilitating factors are in place and being a small country the negative forces are with in manageable limits unlike in india the vast landmass itself is a problem

Open letter by a staunch Catholic to Cardinal Gomis and fellow Christians
Gracian Fernando, Australia

Dear Cardinal Oswald Gomis, It is with a heavy heart, I write this open letter to you, the head of the Catholic Church in Sri Lanka, sincerely hoping to draw your attention as well as the attention of all Christians in my motherland.

I am a devout Catholic born and bred in Negombo, the unofficial capital of Catholicism in Sri Lanka. My name reflects the Portugese roots of our religion in Sri Lanka, just like yours, probably. Although at present I live in Australia, having migrated due to family reasons, I am a patriotic Sri Lankan who has served in the Sri Lankan Navy for 12 years with the ID Number A2860. Therefore, I keep myself well informed about happenings in Sri Lanka through the internet, newspapers, telephone calls and frequent visits. As such, on the 4th February, using the internet, I was eagerly listening to news about the Independence Day celebrations through SLBC City FM service (I must say that this service is a godsend for Sri Lankans like me who are thirsty for news from our motherland).

When at one point, the program started broadcasting your service, delivered at Kotahena St Lucia Cathedral, I braced myself with devotion to listen to our Head of Churche’s holy words on our nation’s holiest day taking into consideration the current situation in our motherland. However, sad to say, instead of making me feel pious, proud and happy, your whole sermon made me sick, ashamed and angry.

I fervently expected you to speak about our successful heroic struggles to gain freedom, both from the clutches of the cruel western colonists of the old as well as from the yoke of the vicious inhuman terrorists of the present day.

Instead, indirectly, but quite obviously, you belittled our heroes of the past and present. On our freedom day, without a word of blessing for our frontline soldiers who are sacrificing their lives and limbs to save the nation, you spoke about a “political solution”. A church that blessed, in the name of Christianity, the Crusaders and the Spaniards who murdered hundreds of thousands of people, failed to bless those who die to save others. You defended the brutal Portugese by saying that their’s was not an invasion, that they had almost no impact on the island of ours. Well, the fact is that the Portugese were the cruellest among our three western invaders, the Dutch and the British being the other two. You being a scholar, surely cannot claim that you do not know about the macabre Portugese atrocities. You are well aware how, under the leadership of Asavedu, the Portugese invaded the villages around Malwana, corralled all the women to an open area after raping them, ordered their men to assemble around the venue at gun point and bayoneted the women, slitting their bellies. Babies in their hands were thrown up into the air and were caught on the points of swords. The marauders laughed at the death cries of the babies saying that they sounded like the cries of chickens. These were the criminals you whitewashed on our national radio on our national day! Similarly, now I can understand why you failed to say a single word about the inhuman atrocities committed by the present day terrorists, the Tamil Tigers.

Being the supreme leader of our Catholic faith in Sri Lanka, I expected you to be factual and knowledgeable. However, you were neither. You exhibited your lack of knowledge (or was it?) of our history by claiming that it was not the Portugese who brought Catholicism to Sri Lanka and that Christianity was thriving for thousands of years prior to the advent of them. Perhaps, you may think that the fact that a cross was found during excavations in Anuradhapura among other offerings (such as Roman coins) made by ancient merchants is proof that Christianity was existing in Sri Lanka at that time. For your information, may I tell you that the ruins of Anuradhapura predate Jesus Christ and that the cross was an important symbol used by people much before Christ was born.

I passionately expected you to bring a message of goodwill and peace, a message of healing, a message of repentance that would alleviate the mistrust Sri Lankans of other religions may have against the Catholics, with or without reason. But instead, you indirectly pointed a finger of accusation at our Buddhist brothers by saying that they think the Catholic Church is behind the troubles of Sri Lanka.

My dear Cardinal, let me tell you as a devout self-critical Christian, that if the majority of Sri Lankans mistrust the Christian Churches in general and the Catholic Church in particular, it is not a surprise at all. The reasons are as follows:

· It was Sri Lanka’s Anglican primate who once notoriously said that the abominable LTTE leader Prabhakaran was a humane person;

· The Bishop of Mannar, Rev Rayappu continually criticised our heroic forces but never had a bad word about the LTTE. He distorted information and lied about the situation in Mannar and Madu Church making it extremely difficult for the Sri Lankan forces to liberate the areas;

· A Catholic Priest in Jaffna who went on International TV (I watched it from here) explained why he supported the LTTE: “I was a Tamil before I became a Catholic”, he brazenly said;

· The Catholic Church never ever said an encouraging word about our heroic soldiers. On the contrary, many statements from the Church appeared to sabotage the efforts of bringing the terrorists to book;

· During the last elections, you foolishly appeared on a full page advertisement on national papers calling all Catholics to support Ranil Wickramasinghe, a total failure who was against any attempt to finish off the LTTE terrorism. Ranil who signed the ignominious “ceasefire” which strengthened the terrorists bringing death to many more innocents is still openly supported by the Church;

· Christians of all faiths make up less than 10% of Sri Lanka’s population. However, they still command a disproportionate influence in all facets of Sri Lankan politics. For example, more than 75% of Minister’s in Ranil’s cabinet were Christians, mostly Catholics. How come?

· The majority Buddhists and their kings saved the Catholics from persecution by the Anglicans during the British rule by allowing them to settle in nominated villages in the Kandyan kingdom. Now, the Catholic Church, instead of being grateful to the Buddhists, is trying to control the affairs of their country. Church leaders, instead of being model citizens, are seen to be friendlier with the arch enemy of the nation, the Tamil Tiger terrorists.

Therefore, my dear Cardinal, I beg you to change your ways and those of the Church you are in charge of by doing everything you can to pacify people of other faiths and become a friend of them and their country and nation, rather than a saboteur.

The rest of this letter is addressed to my fellow Sri Lankan Christians in general and Catholics in particular.

My dear brothers and sisters, I hope this letter opens eyes of both the Church and the lay Christians. The church is a vehicle we developed to help us join hands and serve the almighty, an institution to help keep our faith alive. It should not be a autocratic establishment that governs us, that dictates to us, that cannot be questioned and corrected. Our saviour, Jesus Christ did not use a Church, neither did he anoint anyone or any institution to have dictatorial powers to say or do whatever the incumbents wanted. Because of our unyielding faith in God, we have been lagging in assessing the workings of our Churches. Church is not God. Church is an institution manned by mere mortals with all the weaknesses that humans possess. If we confer to the Church the very same level of uncompromising faith we bestow to God, it can and will cease to be the institution we expected it to be. In the past, we have made this mistake and the results were appalling. Few examples are:

· Several Popes, including the current incumbent had to apologize for serious mistakes on their part. Turning a blind eye to the extermination of Jews by the Nazis, statements made denying the holocaust, statements made against Islam are some of the issues about which they had to apologize;

· Many billions of dollars have been paid as compensation to victims of sexual harassment by priests, resulting in complete bankruptcy of some Churches. Most of these crimes had been initially denied by the Church hierarchy.

It is up to us to decide; whether we become enslaved by an institution of our own making, which has now turned to be a monster that controls us or whether we talk to our Church Leaders and bring them back to sense. After all, God lives in our hearts, not in Churches gone astray.

Defence.lk orbat map updated on march 03rd. The new map shows that PTK junction is under control of SLA. Why Palamaththalan still shown as LTTE controlled area even it captured before PTK town?

Pala(old)maththalan is 3KM south of chaalai, The place you mention is Puthu(new)maaththalan. Which is more that 4km south of chalai.

55 Div moved close Palamaththalan junction, but LTTE counter attack forced SLA to withdrew to chaalai.

SLA never entered Puthumaathalan area until yesterday. which is the border of the "Killing zone". One of my relative who refuged there more that 20 days with his family talked to us yesterday a place close to Puthumaaththalan.

Which pre-1956 demands are you referring to? All of them had to do with representation in Colombo, and none of them involved devolution of power/federalism/"Tamil nation" (that started after 1956).

Although they were to do with representation IN Colombo, they were not FOR Colombo. They were for the WHOLE COUNTRY and were demanding UNDULY FAVOURABLE representation for Tamils, thereby continuing the British practice of discrimination of Sinhala majority.

It can't be GG Ponnambalam's "50-50 representation," because the Tamil Congress did not really complain after the Soulbury Commission rejected it and Ponnambalam even participated in the 1st independence govt as a Cabinet Minister.

Of course it was !! Just because TC didn't complain, it does not erase the fact that he made that RACIST DEMAND. When he saw that he couldn't succeed, he shamefully joined the Govt. in order to enjoy the power/benefits/perks of a Cabinet minister!! Then Chelva took over from that point and planted the evil seeds of separate homeland demand, expecting to get "LITTLE NOW, MORE LATER"

If SLA want to kill innocent tamils they can do it easily

LTTE, Mahvir families, innocent Tamils and not innocent tamils cornered in 45SqKm.

If SLA, SLAF, SLN use indiscriminatory fire power all the life forms in that area going to be vapourised within few minutes.

Cann't you understand why SLA having casualties because they are using small arms in fighting to minmise the damage to innocent people. They would not use indirect firepower without proper intelligence.

Question to you all,

How come our most High profile Battle field commander Brig. Shavendra was overlooked for a promotion?
Is the army high command trying to dampen the hype surrounding him?
He's been getting a lot of press coverage recently...
Dispropotionately some might say...

Or is it purely an army, order of seniority matter....
As I think most likely...

jack1234 said...

Peter ,

i disagree with your comment about Sonia's loyalty to her adopted country...
seriously..
but on a Lighter note..
as far as I am concerned Her clan (Rahul/Priyanka)with it's blood feud against the SL tamils can rule India for eternity....

Peter said...

jack1234,

That's a possibility, but all signs are that dynastic rule is coming to an end in India. In the future, it is more likely to be governed by coalitions; to an extent, that has already began to take shape.

Most Indians would even question her loyalty to the host country. Why do you think she didn't become PM?

Push said...

Coverage on SS (or 58) is higher due to few reasons.

1. 58 has liberated most strategically important places than others.Check this out
2.SS is more froendly with media. (SS has made Shanaka to report everything his team do)
3. Other leaders are not so like to talk to media.

one sided really..
no, congress got themselves a a winner in him and I say they have a lock on the country for the forseable future..

Peter said...

jack1234,

We'll have to wait and see on that one.

My point is that people are starting to vote for regional parties in national election. This has always been the case in Tamil Nadu, but other states are catching up as well. Even now, UPFA is a coalition. Most partners would not approve of dynastic leaders in such governments.

Peter,
You seem to have got the political situation in India completely wrong.

I dont agree with your views on Sonia Gandhi and about her loyalty to India.First & foremost you have to understand that her nationality is not a point of discussion at all anymore in India.People have accepted her as very much their own.
If your memory is good, when 2004 election results were out, nothing stood between her and the PM's chair. It was she who chose not to become PM.

I agree with your point on regional parties getting votes in National election point though.Thats why alliances are formed.Congress is the only party which has a nation wide presence.Same cant be said about BJP.If you consider Tamilnadu,BJP cant win a single seat on its own.Same applies to Kerala and Andhra pradesh as well.

But with the average age of the voter in the fortcoming elections being the lowest in decades,I am sure the situation of regional parties gaining votes will change.Congress party has been shrewd enough to see this and thats why they are bargaining hard with their alliance partners. The partners too know they can do nothing without the Congree and seem to be yielding.

The reason behind that is Rahul. He seems to be the future. We will know the answer on May16th

Min-anal,

That is Peelam Dicktionary u moron. The Peelamic term is given first, which is followed by its meaning. For example, "LTTE tactically withdrew from suckKilinochchi" means "LTTE stuck the tail up its ass and ran away from SuckKilinochchi"

To understand it better, here is an exercise for ur suck-kili brain:

If "LTTE tactically withdrew from suckKilinochchi" = "LTTE stuck the tail up its ass and ran away from SuckKilinochchi",

"Stop killing civillians" = ?

Refer to Peelam Dicktionary and answer.

Commode cleaners raid behind enemy backs in Pai-para-piddy.

Civilian,

How about asking LTTE to release them in the name of "ransom" you paid over the decades to LTTE fronts based in your country of residence?

Mate, trust the Sri Lankan Army, they are on their way not only to rescue your family, but also another 40,000 families too.

..and if you have not realised, at this end of this rescue mission, it would result in rescuing 21 Million of people from 25 years of LTTE inflicted misery.

Just wait and watch the show or try contacting your LTTE Agent!

{Cricket’s leading security adviser, Reg Dickason, says he had warned the Sri Lanka Cricketers Association of the inherent dangers in going to Pakistan, but they ignored his advice.)

There must have been some serious arm twisting going on before the SL team agreed to the Pakistan Tour. Only time will tell. Mahela's interview on TV made a subtle reference to the security concerns/risks voiced by the cricket officials. No doubt we will hear from Mahela & Kumar about these once playing days are over.

The issue is not whether or not an incident happened, but rather whether the risk was acceptable. I suppose it is reasonable to expect that countries which value human life more than others would have a lower risk appetite. Furthermore if someone else (ie. cricketers) is made to bear the risk for anothers benefit (ie. politicians)it may be cheap but opportune. I think one calls that risk transfer. We need an independent inquiry into the handling of this warning.
It would be a shameful act if the politicians used our cricketers as pawns.

I was just wondering if you could clarify further that who is the head of LTTE’s military intelligence unit at present. Because when former head of LTTE’s military intelligence, Charles, was killed, LTTE announced that he was replaced by Ratnam Master. But when Balraj died of heart attack the LTTE published pictures of other cadres paying last respect to Balraj and claimed at that time Sasikumar Master as the head of military intelligence again. Just for the record he was the one that founded the LTTE’s military intelligence in the first place in 1993.

For more details visit http://theltteinsider.blogspot.com/

Please let me know the details so that I can also update my blog where I detailed the LTTE’s military intelligence unit; and keep up your good work.

Last Saturday some of my friends invited me to join them to drive to Mississauga in Canada. We left Friday late evening and reached
Mississauga Buddhist Vihara a small but beautiful Buddhist Temple in Mississauga, ON. The temple itself finding it is too small to cater to thousands of Sri Lankan families and raising funds to purchase a new building.

The temple had organized a Pot Luck in aid of Ranaviru Fund on the request of Consul General Bandula Jayasekara who is fighting an uphill battle with LTTE terrorist elements countering their false propaganda in the Greater Toronto Area.

What we saw was phenomenal. We reached there about 10.30 am after few stops and having breakfast at one our our old-friend's place.

The little temple was filled with hundreds of volunteers, busy cooking food, and helping. Hundreds lined up to buy food packets. The demand was so high that they could not keep up. At one point we saw people donating money and leave, even without waiting to get their food parcels saying they came to help Ranaviru Fund.

People were so optimistic and upbeat. They wanted to take part and contribute. They wanted to do more. I mentioned them to visit this blog and find Hareen's site on sponsoring Ranaviru Kid.

I have never seen such enthusiasm from people. They all are thankful to MR and his team for putting Sri Lanka out of 25 years of LTTE Cancer.

Then there was food shortage, and we had to drive to the nearest Tamil store to buy some Spices. That Tamil Shop is called Vanni Market with some LTTE propaganda posters torn but still hanging on glass. The girl who served us looked very kind (as usual of many Tamils).

However, when we came out of the shop, there was a LTTE stooge who wanted to sell us some LTTE BS book. We talked to him nice and told we are Sinhalese and told him to ask his Masters to release the Tamil civilians they forcibly keep in the Safe Zone.. He uttered some broken English, and we realised that he can not speak much English.

Also one of our guys told him that soon he and his LTTE clan has to roll the book he wanted to sell us and shove up in his back passage. It was very funny to see his face, gob smacked not knowing what to do, but uttered some Tamil filth towards us... and we saw he was writing down our number plate -retard LTTE mentality.

When I read the following article, we saw how much money the event has collected. Fantastico man.. fantastic!

Potluck that showed great patriotism

Thank you Mississauga Buddhist Vihara and the people who were behind the Potluck!
