Preparing for the final showdown

The Army has decided to temporarily postpone its hostage rescue plan into the NFZ as large numbers of civilians started moving into government areas across the Nanthikadal Lagoon yesterday following the complete decimation of the LTTE's entire hardcore reserve.

Reports reaching DefenceWire indicate that a total of around 750 LTTE hardcore cadres have either been killed or surrendered to the Army over a 3 day period ending last Saturday night. Not a single LTTE cadre trapped in the combined 53, 57, 58 and TF-8 box had escaped. It was virtually airtight, ground commanders confirmed to DefenceWire.

Sources indicated to DefenceWire that only a small band of hardcore fighters remain in the LTTE. These include members of the Ratha Regiment providing protection to Prabhakaran and family (Ratnam Master, the head of Ratha Regiment was killed in an airstrike) a team from Charles Anthony, an Intelligence Unit team protecting Poddu and Kabil Amman and bodyguards of the handful of other surviving 'Colonels' like Bhanu, Lawrence etc. There is also a small 'Police Force' and an auxiliary unit, which can also putup a fight if necessary.

The services rendered to the daring operation to break the LTTE backbone in Puthukudirippu from 1st to 5th April by Major General Kamal Gunaratne as the senior-most officer in the team as well as Brigadier Shavendra Silva, Colonel G.V. Ravipriya and Colonel Deshapriya Gunawardene requires special notice.

Also of particular note is the close fire support provided by the 5th Reconnaissance Regiment of the Sri Lanka Armoured Corp, which was evident in the way enemy bunkers, fortifications and even bodies have been mutilated in the battlefield.

The yeoman service provided by 2 Commando Regiment under the overall leadership of its CO Ralph Nugera and 1 Special Forces under Colonel Athula Kodippili needs special mentioning as they, particularly 1 SF, swung into action on Commander General Fonseka's instructions (Special Forces are part of the Commander's Reserve).

The man who deserves major credit is none other than General Fonseka who, particularly through Major General Jayasuriya, provided close scrutiny of the battleplan and approved the daring operation to proceed. If all things go according to plan, General Fonseka's pledge to eliminate Prabhakaran, who once sought his own scalp, could become a reality.

Thanks DW for the regular updates....

Well done SLDF . . . we're so proud of you !

Great sons of mother lanka. . . !

Victory is ours !

There is conflicting information from the front; there's news of small party infilteration while the major force holds back, while others say the army is only conducting psy-ops and have not entered the area at all.

Somehow it is hard that our forces would not have infilterated the area, to map it out in detail by now.

Sinhalese finally proved that how they survived this island over 2500 years.

SLDF was criticized for letting LTTE escape from the previous regions, finally they answered the critics by surrounding them and wiping out completely.

This battle and the men who fought it should be remembered forever. We should remember to integrate these men to our future decision making than not just handing over the country to self centered politicians.

Hi All,
This is very well written. I am sure you will find this very informative.
Who destroyed Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is a place for all of us to live in harmony. If anyone, especially the Tamil Diaspora thinks that Sri Lanka should be ethnically divided, then, the following is food for thought for you. This is also good for those LTTE sympathisers in our country as well as around the world:

Claim: Sri Lanka is the only place for Tamil Ealam

Fact: Sri Lanka is the ONLY place in the world for the Sinhala race and the Veddahs. Whether you like it or not, they have the right to this land before anyone else. Tamils, on the other hand, have the historical right to Tamil Nadu – and that is where the only Ealam Dreamland should be. Or you may consider Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, Germany, England or Australia – they have been pampering you well, haven't they?

Claim: North and East are the historical Tamil Homeland

Fact: If you think the North and East belonged to the Tamils historically, think twice. Read the history of Sri Lanka – the truth, not the rubbish you teach in Tamil schools in Germany. Visit Anuradhapura and look at the moonstones: Lankan civilisation began in the North (not in the South) and the Buddhists were there before the Tamils. Many places of worship of significant importance for Buddhists still lie in the North and East, including places such as Nagadveepa and Thiriyaya – which is said to have been built containing relics of the lord Buddha. It was only during the Polonnaruwa regime that the cow was removed from the moonstone as a result of the Hindu influence. That's the first time ever the Cholas set foot in our island – so how dare you claim that the North and East are the "traditional" land of the Tamils?

Claim: Sinhala Buddhists are committing a Genocide in Sri Lanka
(Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group.)

Fact: There were Sinhala and Muslim communities living in the North and East – not so long ago. Where are they now? Who has systematically eliminated them, chased them out of their own homes? Who has chopped the heads off the infants, split opened pregnant mothers, stamped their wombs, killed every Sinhala person in sight and torched their
villages? Starting from the Kent Farm and Model Farm, the Tamil extremists have eliminated the Sinhala and Muslim communities from the North (and tried in the East -too); they attacked temples and mosques, brutally executing monks, priests and innocent people while they were praying. From Aranthalawa, Dimbulagala and Sri Maha Bodhiya to Kandy , the barbaric LTTE terrorists didn't even spare a temple or a mosque. It's the Tamil terrorists committing genocide in Sri Lanka, not anyone else!

Claim: Tamils are discriminated in Sri Lanka

Fact: A person from the majority Sinhalese cannot buy a piece of land in the North
(prevented by a pact), but the Tamils can buy land anywhere in the country. Statistically speaking, Tamils are occupying more than their share in universities, in the civil service,
the government and even in the private sector. From Sea Street to 4th Cross Street, there are certain trades and industries that "belong" to the Tamils, and no Sinhala or Muslim merchant can penetrate that.
A closer look at the transformation of Colombo and its suburbs will make any pea-brain understand who is having a better life and who is being pushed aside from the capital city.
From Paskaralingam to Kadirgamar to Muralitharan, there are millions of Tamils who have flourished in this country. It is the Sinhala students who cannot attend the Jaffna
University or the Eastern University, while the Tamil students enjoy their rights all over the country, including the Peradeniya University in the heartland of the Sinhala Buddhists. Even in Colombo, a Sinhala student is not admitted to any Tamil school, while all the Sinhala schools accept Tamil students. From education, to civil service, to businesses and private sector, to land-ownership in Colombo – Tamils are enjoying more than their fair share. How would it be possible if there is so-called discrimination against Tamils in Sri Lanka ?

Claim: Sri Lankan regime has failed to take care of the North and the East

Fact: Jaffna had been almost on par with Colombo at one time, a thriving cosmopolitan – the second capital of Sri Lanka – before the troubles began. There are many provinces and districts that have been forgotten by the ruling parties – North and East aren't at the top of that list. Uva, for example did not even have a university until 2 or 3 years ago;
Moneragala district is the most deprived in the entire country. The governments have always favoured the Tamils – in order to keep their votes, and as a result, they have been enjoying better benefits than the others in Sri Lanka.

Claim: Tamils get hassled and harassed by the security checks

Fact: The Sinhalese, the Muslims, the Burghers – we all get woken up in the wee
hours of the morning, during search operations; we all get our bags, baggage and vehicles checked, we all get harassed – that's the price the innocent people pay for the environment the stupid LTTE has created. Anyone who fails to produce valid identification or reasonable evidence for whereabouts would get into trouble
– unless you are a foreigner (they are the privileged ones in paradise). There are Sinhala and Muslim informants on the LTTE payroll too, so everyone is a 'suspect' at a
checkpoint. We all go through the same hassle, same agony. But then again, you hardly visit Sri Lanka, so what would you know?

Claim: Sinhalese Buddhists are at War with the Tamils

Fact: Nope, we aren't. If we did, there wouldn't have been any Tamils living outside LTTE-controlled areas. Majority of the Tamil population is living outside the LTTE grip; living amongst the other ethnicities in harmony. Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL)
is at war with the terrorists, just like some other democracies around the world. Some LTTE propaganda agents substitute GoSL with Sinhalese Buddhists and LTTE with the
Tamils, to leverage certain situations in their favour.

Claim: Some Sinhala Extremist Parties are spreading Sinhala-only ideologies.

Fact: Yes, there are extremist elements such as Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU trans.
National Sinhala Heritage) – which came to being to counter the extremists such as the LTTE under a political mandate. Tamil extremism is over 50 years old in Sri Lanka
while JHU isn't even 10 years old. JHU, being an extremist, has almost zero influence on the average civil society. Tamils, on the other hand, have "erased" Sinhala from their areas (only Tamil and English exist on the sign boards from the North – out of sight, out of mind?) while the rest of the country treats Tamil as one of the official languages.

Now, who is being extreme and who is breeding extremism in this country?

Claim: Sri Lankan Government has no option but to negotiate with the LTTE

Fact: Sri Lankan Government did not negotiate with the Sinhala Buddhist uprisings in the early 70's and the late 80's. The Sinhala terrorists were captured, tortured and
killed – and their heads decorated the roadside fences. Their burning bodies were seen in almost every street corner every morning, and over 50,000 youth are still missing to
date. That was the Sinhala Buddhist government taking care of the Sinhala Buddhist youth who terrorised the country.
The government does NOT have to negotiate with terrorists. The Sri Lankan governments have been too nice, and tolerant, to the Tamil terrorists all these years.

Claim: The international community has a right to involve in the Sri Lankan situation

Fact: The international community has already banned the LTTE – a terror outfit and its sister-concerns. Not even India can encourage terrorism or division anymore; they too have Mumbai and Kashmir on their agenda. Sadly, it is only a few misguided Tamil businessmen and individuals who support the LTTE around the world trying to lobby a voice for lost cause – they hardly quantify or qualify as the "international community." BBC and the gullible British elements don't qualify either. You too will soon
see the truth and realise that the Ealam dream was nothing but a painful nightmare.

Claim: LTTE is the only and true voice of the Tamil people

Fact: LTTE does not represent the true Tamils of this country. If they did, why
would they eliminate EPRLF, EPDP, EROS and TULF? Weren't they representing Tamils too? Why would they kill any Tamil voice that was against the LTTE agenda – no matter how big or small the person was? From innocent villagers who were
labelled as "traitors" to great statesmen like Lakshaman Kadirgamar, LTTE has killed thousands of its own kith and kin that they were "supposedly" protecting. In fact, the LTTE has killed more innocent Tamils than the number of LTTE militants killed by the Sri Lankan Security Forces. LTTE is not the true voice or the protector of the Tamils in Sri Lanka. It's just the opposite.

Claim: LTTE is protecting the civilians in their area, if they get out, they would be
killed by the Sri Lankan Security Forces. (Also according to LTTE and the BBC)

Fact: Almost all the Tamils in Sri Lanka – except for the ones who are trapped
in the current War Zone – live outside the LTTE influence. How come they are not killed? If over 90% of the Tamils are living outside the LTTE held areas, in harmony with the rest of the Sri Lankans, protected and freely, what are they talking about? They would be killed by the military advance if they DON'T leave the LTTE-held areas soon
enough.

Claim: Sri Lanka failed to recognise the demands of the Tamils and never offered a
political solution

Fact: Sri Lanka did, but sadly the Tamils didn't recognise the power they had in their hands. The country switched from a 225-seater parliament that represented an MP per electorate to the Provincial Council System to satisfy the demands of the Tamils. This may not have been perfect, but it was a very good beginning. North and East were combined and offered in a silver platter to the terrorist leader twice, but he
refused to enter the political stream. LTTE rejected democracy and took up arms, not once, not twice, but many a times. Every "Cease-Fire" ended in LTTE regrouping, re-arming and murdering hundreds of Sinhalese – the Tamil Diaspora that has never set
foot in the island should use their brains to understand why the LTTE were NOT acting for the benefit of the ordinary Tamils.
Sri Lanka would have been better off without the high-maintenance Provincial Council System – with a leaner, meaner, accountable and more responsible Parliament. Today we have a white elephant – created for the Tamils, but fed by the rest of the Sri Lankans.
We were a resourceful nation in South Asia, ahead of Singapore on the development curve, once upon a time. Thanks to the idiotic ideologies and stupidities of LTTE, the whole country has gone back in time – in to the stone ages.
The roads are still the same width as it were 30 years ago, the currency has
depreciated from Rs 16.00 to a US Dollar in 1978 to almost Rs 114.00 to a US Dollar today – a whopping 712% in just 30 years!
The country is filled with the maimed and the war-victims – a huge burden on the welfare system for the next few generations to come. Emotional scars would take another zillion years to heal; and I could write another million ways the war has crippled our Paradise.

Most of all, the LTTE cleverly bumped-off all the brains in the political system –leaving the country in the hands of a bunch of imbeciles. We will win the war and restore peace and stability, but we cannot gain the time we lost. We cannot turn back the clock. The world has moved on, leaving us far behind.

In simple terms, the LTTE morons have shat on the pile of gold that is Sri Lanka. It is going to take a few heavy monsoons to wash away the crap and the stench, and its going to be a hell of a long time before we begin to shine again.

Thank for the update DW.

This means that "Rescue Operation" will become another "Assault Operation" like one we just had.

meaning we are going to have "Grand Finale" ?

Unknown said...

I think if this is the case ( I mean …postpone the operation) it is better to declare a ceasefire
just for 24 or 48 hours to allow civilians to come. This may cause foreign countries to pressure LTTE, but not the government.

the dia(spo)rea loosers without showing off in foreign countries should come back to SL and cry for their wasted dream. Some can jump to Beira lake or maybe sit at the Parliment ground and go for a fast.
Tamils are considered as a minority, or a low cast even in their motherland India. So accept the reality you pussies.

We must also thanks Army Intelligence. I think SL Army today cannot be compared to any other army in the world. Their strategies and plans are developed utmost.

DW,

What are the reasons for suspending ongoing operations?

If the remain LTTE hardcore fighters are numbers why cannot we use our commandos to operate to achieve last LTTE killers?

Without waiting any further Army should start high operation to gain coastal area and destroy remain sea tiger capabilities?

I am so proud of our commander and the current administration. I think it this could be a great beggining, a new chapter for Sri lanka. To be united and work towards a stronger economy a better country. As Sri lankans we can help Sri Lanka prosper, by investing in our country. Just the way the LTTE suppoters invested in their dream land. BUT, the difference is that we would do this with good intentions. To build our mother land, not for some neverland that some sakkiliya dreamed up. All Sri Lankan diaspora owe this to our country, we were provided with free education and a good up bringing. We benifit from that while living in foreign countries, living the "good life". Its pay back time, we just have to make sure that our money is spent in the right places, to hlep the poor, all Sri Lankans. Once we have a good system in place the foreign corrency will start to flow in and the tourism would kick start. I hope we can sustain this energy and pride, then turn it towards rebuilding SRI LANKA.

whats the hurry to enter the NFZ? We just got a new source for detailed info on enemy positions within the NFZ in the form of the ltte cadres who surrendered. We will closely study them with the satellite images we have of the NFZ and info given by the escaped civillians and plan a "lightening" operation in to the NFZ.
The much talked about massive rescue mission seems like psy-ops! But we will strike...

DW, what's the final body count? Army.lk put it at 525, are we still counting?

I think we need to add the pro-ltte Tamils who died of heart-attack after PTK debacle in to the count as well ;-)

Also, what's going to happen to the bodies we recovered? Has the ltte agreed to accept them or are we going to bury/cremate them on state account?

LTTE top 10 are still there. I think around 1000 hard core elite fighters may be still there.

koly,

no leaks. Pure coincidence. actually, we were surprised to find 130 fire coming from the box and then only did we know there was a considerable force trapped. that's why CR and Sf were called in.

Rathnam Master was in charge of many things in the latter stages but Poddu was always in charge of LTTE MI.

SALF helped hit some targets pretty accurately BEFORE we crept into the coconut grove. After that it was mostly face-to-face fighting.

SL,
You have big hopes to build our country and economy. Yes they are reasonable. However I am afraid that if a politician such as RW comes to a power, everything will be changed.
Since there may be few gurilla attacks even after the war for next couple of years, he may say "we need negotiation, war is not the solution, lets cut off post-war security measures, tamils do not like these things after war..etc".

Then

True, the corrupted political system has to go, in order to really hope for a better Sri Lanka. After all the biggest reason that the LTTE became strong was due to our corrupted politicians. We need someone that really cares about the country, not financial gains from it. A diaspora who is retired and has no need to make money off of it would be a good canidate. We need someone that has an open mind to tackle the global issues of the 21st century, hence someone who lived abroad and had the exposure. Sri Lanka has the great potential to become the Hawaii of Asia, only if we think about the long term gains and not get caught up in the short term "get rich quick" plans. Hope Manhinda Rajapaksa has good intensions for the country.

SL said...

Saduni,
you are right, I do have high hopes. And they might not be realistic since we are talking about Sri Lanka, but our country has a great potential. All we need is the right leadership, hope MR is not in to make some money like the others. We need someone that's well off, well educated and that has traveled or lived abroad (to tackle the global issues of the 21st century, and one that has an open mind) to run the country. We can't have parasites, and some of these poor basterds that are trying to run a "get rich qucik" schems by becoming the president of Sri Lanka.

Looks like some major battles going to be fought in the seas!

Surrendered cadres have informed that LTTE is preparing hundreds of boats to carryout a major sea assault.

It would be a very difficult task for the Navy to hold on, when large number of boats are out and attacking them. This is their last breath.

Unknown said...

VP death story is hogwash, another premature ejaculation.

Its not all good news boys, our casualties in PTK battle is close to LTTE's, but not so many KIAs, some casualties due to blue on blue (friendly fire) bcoz of close proximity fighting. We captured a large haul of weapons, many are past use by date which means LTTE stocks are dwindling, this could be one of the reasons their firepower was not effective. Some of the weapons captured were those that LTTE captured from us in earlier battles (remember the days when we marched up the A9 leaving both flanks exposed?)

We did not use gas attacks againts LTTE! They are idiots to think we would use gas in close proximity fighting, those injuries to cadres are due to thermobaric weapons.

PTK extreme edge entirely not cleared, some pockets of resistance are there. I don't know of any SF missions inside NFZ, they are operating on the boundaries though.
Bodies of killed leaders were washed, cleaned, dressed and kept in govt. A/C morgues, not sure what for.

NOLTTE=peace,

I hope that we will embark on ground assault before these boats leave the shore. May be it is the time to train our hundreds of artillery and MBRLs along the beach and keep our eyes in the sky watching any boat activities. I hope that MBRLs can incinerate many such boats together with Arrow missiles.

NOLTTE=peace,

If this case is true, then we are in huge trouble. I dont think Navy can counter-attck sucessfully, if there will be a very large number of ltte boats.

Most probably, they break the defences at sea at one point and will land to someware in the north which is already cleared. Then they will move into thick Jungles.

Then there is no end of war ....

thank you DW for the details.

what a harvest that was!

tigers are still in disbelief. they allege we had used RPO-shmels!!

even if we had used them, they are not banned weapons.

we are now having a hostage rescue operation. if hostages escape from their captors in large numbers, there is no need for operations to go at lighting speed. get as many as hostages free this way and then attack. few "encouragements" may also be needed!!

LTTE supporters are bloody angry with india. but there is little they can do. whatever party wins in tamilmadu it will join the ruling party.

thereafter they have dance to indian concerns NOT tamil madu/elam concerns.

SL on the other hand should (as much as possible) pit tamil elam concerns against indian concerns.

there are so many heros and incredible moments of patriotism during the initial phases of this operation. We were covered in thick mud and so many insects biting us for days while we made the movement to encircle the ltte group.

i only lament that through one of our weak points banu managed to leave perhaps with prabhakaran and swarnam.

the TE project will run with or without vezapillai.

politicians can,

1. reverse the military victory
2. make the military victory uselss
3. mess things up again
4. stop the dismantling of the TE project

OR

5. start further frustrating the TE project by other means complimented by military activity.

the final solution MUST be a political solution based on island-wide physical and human ethnic integration.

I agree with Badri,

Multiple features show that the purported body isn't Theepan.

see the picture at DN of the dead body
http://defencenet.blogspot.com/

and Col. Theepan's photo here

http://dbsjeyaraj.com/dbsj/archives/293

Five main differences:

The body has a separated left ear lobe. Col. Theepan doesn't have separated ear lobe.

Just above ear lobe, Col. Theepan's ear section is not raised, while the body has raised ear section.

The body has a sharper nose. Col. Theepan has chubby nose.

The under eye drooping scar on Col. Theepan picture doesn't exist on the body.

The shape of the eye brow on the dead body appears thicker, straighter than Col. Theepan and is is curvy near the nose. Col Theepan's has discontinous eye brow, wavy shaped.

Col Theepan has large mark on right cheek. The body doesn't have this.

The body's top row teeth sticks out and has thin lips. Col. Theepan has a recessive upper jaw, thick lips.

What completely gives it away and confirms the two are different is the shape of the forehead relative to the eyes. Col. Theeepan's eyes are not recessed relative to the forehead. While the body has well defined (imposing) forehead, with recessed eyes.

Col Theepan's eye lid are also chubby. While the body has smaller thinner, eyelids.

Conclusion: This another exposed fake by the creative writers at army.lk and defence.lk

Liberation Tigers of Denmark are arrested when they tried to show how they break rules elsewhere in the world.

Now this is a good lesson to them. I believe that this arrest is strictly linked to the observations in London. Danish didn't want the same nonsense under their flag. See the world is listening.

Pussycats and diaspora is always doing what we expect from them. Anger is the best tablet we can give them.

This is soo sad! All Tamils living out of SL have no clue what is going on here! They think that the SL government is killing civilians but where as it is the other way! it's the LTTE that does it and they did it always! This purely because of fake LTTE propaganda! Desperate to end the assaults by the army they are only provoking boxed minded Tamil youth abroad! another reason the Tamils abroad don't want this war to end is cos they r all war refugees and these refugees will be kicked out of those countries as soon as the war in Lanka is over! so the war is their only excuse to stay!! Open ya eyes and see the real situation here!! Us Tamils are better off without the LTTE!! We dont want them!

As I have seen in this blog many times from the postings of some LTTE supporters, "LTTE is not loosing but just "tactically" withdrawing". They have been withdrawing from Mannar to Killinchchi to Mullativu and now into the safe zone.

Does anyone know where they are planning to go next? Any LTTE insiders or supporters here to answer?

PS:
LTTE should also contact the offices of Guinness Book of records as they deserved to be credited with most "Tactical" withdrawals record in the word military history.

Loud explosions heard in NFZ, after the final announcements made to LTTE to release civilians

Several loud explosions have been heard in the NFZ soon after army made the final announcement for the LTTE terrorists to release the civilians held hostage by them this afternoon (Apr 8). The army has made announcement using loudspeakers positioned few hundred meters short of the western border of the NFZ.

Army suspects that the terrorists have launched some sort of an attack at the civilians who tried to escape their rule.

More information will follow...

mass suicide?

I agree with you, but only upto a point on that last one.

Politicians and hate mongers and economic refugees may yell, scream and demonstrate, but the host nations will not do anything. They may attempt to hold SL to ransome only if they feel there is a way to force their influence on us. With the present geo-political dynamic that clout is not strong and unlikely to be very soon.

India will remain the neighbor we need to watch. They are not done in SL yet, but will, if the threat from Pak-china axis becomes bigger. Their relationship will most probably remain a re-active one, just like now. So their instability actually will be beneficial to us.

No new state can exist if it cannot defend its borders. The tamil eelam claim has no validity and is indefensible whether in theory or physically. The only hope if for a foreign power carving out a seperate state on their behalf and defending it for them. No foreign nation is going to attempt that and will be allowed by India, for whom it becomes a big and immediate threat.

With Velu gone, the LTTE will implode, degenerate and will be picked apart by our military.

It is over. Theoretically and physically. There will remain diplomatic posturing by Norway and others trying to provide legitimacy for the seperatist cause in SL. That would need to be viewd in a long term perspective and SL may need to formulate a policy towards how she deals with Norway.

Once Prabha, Soosai and Potthu are extinct, there will be no LTTE in Sri Lanka. After that there will be no two sides to this war. Just the SLA trying to restore normality to NE. Then the whole landscape to the Tamil issue will change. Other governments and Foreign NGOs will not have a choice to choose between parties. Only option will be "do we support Sri Lanka in recovery or not". You will see Tamil diaspora will change their ranting from Genocide to how Tamils are treated in Sri lanka. Yes, you cannot get rid of sakkili diaspora whining, but it will be whole lot less damaging to SL image.

Ah.. the cat is out of the bag. Chief joker of TN has let it out. Never had the civilians in mind, only the tiger chief. And they wonder why the tamils are in such big trouble...

"Chennai , Apr 8 MDMK leader Vaiko today warned of a"bloodbath"in Tamil Nadu if"something"happened to LTTE leader V Prabhakaran in the ongoing offensive by the Sri Lankan army in the island nation&aposs Tamil areas.

Addressing a protest demonstration here, Vaiko, a staunch supporter of the LTTE, said there was nothing wrong in youth taking to arms and joining the LTTE in its fight against the Sri Lankan army.

"The Tigers are fighting the army and will continue to do so. If something happens to Prabhakaran, there will be bloodbath in Tamil Nadu,"he said.

Vaiko accused the Centre for not taking steps to ensure a ceasefire."

We need to tell the world there were similar kind of opertions to rescue trapped civilians in military history.Eg:Bagdad,Najaf..

And we can justify rescuing many civilians from NFZ at a cost of few civilian lives..
