We have received credible information on the arrest of two individuals, one a middle aged man traveling on a non-Sri Lankan passport at an undisclosed location in Bangkok in a joint stint launched by Thai and Sri Lankan authorities. The travel documents and said identity confirms with an alias of LTTE operative Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingham.
The man was carrying travel documents both under his own birth name and under other aliases at the time of arrest. A group of Sri Lankan officials is expected to fly the said two individuals to Sri Lanka shortly. Please await further information as it is made available.

Where in your post do you elaborate this. Your post suggests that there is no issue. This comment suggests that there is some issue. This is where the conspiracy theorists jump in. And eelamists take advantage.
Mahen, w/o beating the bush around, get to the point. Otherwise you're doing what you did to pussycats during the latter part of teh war.
SK,
You must understand that for EFT team and our sources safety, we can only publish a limited amount and hope you can read between the lines.
Tip, look at the opposition papers, 80% of what they are saying is true, think of Sajin Vaas / Anarkali chancers / bimbos coming into politics over SLFP stalwarts that have worked tirelessly for the people. Then think of SPC election results, its not a rosy picture mate. Now think of Premadasa and how he started, he was man of the people and did a lot for the poor, what happened to him in the end and why did it happen?
However, what Fonseka2010 is doing here is purely monkey dance, he is an impostor.
Patriots,
The biggest problem for our country is that some of our countrymen love the leaders more than the country. They are stuck in the tribal 'party' mindset.
Many UFPA or UNP supporters are saying no to Gen. Fonseka without even considering the policies put forward by the People's Campaign. They are also convinced that this is a conspiracy of one or another party.
Patriots, this is a People's Campaign. Gen. Fonseka is a Sri Lankan, above all. He is not one to cloak himself in any colour. His strength is his transparency. That's when everyone can see him for the real hero he is. People's Campaign's colour is not green or blue. It is TRANSPARENCY!
This is the time for us to demand CHANGE. Yes patriots, this is a once in a life time opportunity. Let's say no to 110 Ministers, family rule and corruption. Let's rally behind Gen. Fonseka, just as our brave hearts did in order to wipe out the terrorist menace.
Fonseka 2010,
Why do we need a change? why would SF make a better choice than the others?
Why would not SF works with current gov?
Chena boy Perein,
You can get a better answer from a gul ibba.
What we have now is family rule, large ineffective government and rampant corruption. Through clever use of state media, the ruling elites have conditioned many people to label those who want change as UNPers or Tigers. As a result, we have a situation today where some people are more loyal to a party than the future of this country.
Gen. Fonseka has a proven track record. Anyone who can fire a gun can not be commander of the army, let alone the best ever. We all know that the problems that plagued the army for so many decades were corruption and promotion for family members. When asked about the secret to the army's recent success, Gen. Fonseka list the fight against corruption as number one. He also says similar measures are needed for the country at large to see real development.
Family rule isn't just about the brothers. It extends as far as the uneducated goon who has been sent as our ambassador to the USA. Corruption doesn't end with the sister's house. Five months after our forces defeated terrorism on this island, we still haven't added a single job, increased average pay by a single rupee or built a school or hospital. We have had some white elephant developments that bring in largest commission for R family or one of 110 ministers and large debts for government.
The problems facing this country are real. Pretending they don't exist and everything is rosy is a disservice to the heroes who gave their lives for this country and our future generation. When we have a solution at hand, in the form of Gen. Fonseka, why should we continue to live with the problem?
For a minute, shed any part colours you may have. Think as a Sri Lanka. Ask yourselves who is best person to lead this country. You will know the answer.
Gents,
Sam Perera has posted the handles used by Fonseka 2010 on Defencewire. You know he is a Tamil dispora traitor pretending to a Sinhala patriot. He is writing crap about the Rajapake family when all he wants to do his spoil the good General's name. Please ignore his postings, and don't engage him ina dialogue.
Fonseka 2010,
Thank you for the detailed info.
You have said,
1.) "What we have now is family rule, large ineffective government and rampant corruption."
Easy any one to say. What evidence do you have to prove this?
2) Do agree with SF has a proven track record in army. What make you think that would be enough for him to contest?
Then not to forget MR also has a proven track record of success.
Do n't get me wrong. I'm just trying to understand the facts and discuss the issue.
Mahen Aunty,
Would you like some cabbages and Brussels-Sprouts from Chena.
Lol
I do not agree with most of you guys regarding SF , GR and MR saga.
There were lots of leaders, good defence secrataries, who were trying to finish LTTE in different times. There were WARs running for even severals years, but those leaders, defence secretaries or army commanders were utterly failed to finish the LTTE.
There is no difference with those old leaders, defence secretaries intensions to what MR and GR has now.
It is the SF, who made the difference. He had the courage to totally overhaul the ARMY structure, training etc to over power enemy. His stratergies and tactics made those MR clan to believe in WAR.
If SF was the ARMY commander in previous prolong battles against LTTE, those leaders also could have finish LTTE forever.
MR was force to think to use SF stratergy to manage even other areas, by apointing skilled people to counter adverse things comming from international arena.
Now yhou can see true colors of MR and GR. See how are they cornering SF and see who are the people trying to promote via elections.
If MR, GR clan trying to corner , SF , I would use every penny at my disposal to defeat them in next election.
Lanka Guardian is operated by some disaffected diaspora elements like Catapult Thangavelu with a few Sinahlese liberals and some Sinhalese traitors. It has a veneer of intelect and bi-partisanship but has a definite anti-Sri Lanka agenda. They have an Indian connection because people like Col Hariharan and Gen Mehta, retired nobodys, write their crap about Sri Lanka. Its probably bankrolled by some Indian intelligence entity. As Mahen said, as a news organization it is third rate since it picked up Mahen's disinformation without any vetting.
An endorsement from this anti-Sri Lankan entity should not considered a badge of pride except for traitors.
1.) "What we have now is family rule, large ineffective government and rampant corruption."
Easy any one to say. What evidence do you have to prove this?
---
Do you think our ambassador to USA was appointed by merit? Who is Mervyn the vermin?
---
2) Do agree with SF has a proven track record in army. What make you think that would be enough for him to contest?
Then not to forget MR also has a proven track record of success.
---
MR's only success was appointing Gen. Fonseka as commander of of army and allowing him full freedom. If MR has any love for this country he would allow Gen. Fonseka to lead the country as well. We don't hate MR. We just think Gen. Fonseka would be a better president. Do you agree?
TNA Tiger proxy is joining government. Will R Bros give away hard earned victory for a few votes?
http://www.adaderana.lk/news.php?nid=5723
andare,
I very respectfully disagree on your assertion. It was not one individual's effort that made the difference, but it was the great team work. The team is too long to be published since it has to include the current government, military, and civilians who stood steadfastly with each other to finish LTTE. General Fonseka indeed was a vital member of this team. However, any breakdown in any part of the team could have made it a mess. Imagine where we are today if we had:
(1) Civilians who want to overturn the government for taking military action.
(2)Military commanders who don't want to lead their men to the battle field with planning and courage.
(3)Military soldiers who are not willing to fight back.
(4) A president and a cabinet who are not willing to provide necessary tools of war and resist all unsavory foreign powers.
It was our lucky day that we had everything right despite of all that back stabbing by top scum of Sri Lanka.
Fonseka 2010,
Please refer to the point 1 and 2 in earlier discussion.
1.) Ambassador to USA ! That has solved all ?
Can you give some proper examples SF can be proud of?
2.) Good leader will use good tools. That's where SF got fit in under MR leadership. Then SF chose whoever worked under him.
But if start to follow your logic SF should hand over the power to each Army leader soon?
I have no idea SF will be a good president or not. But in my opinion, you do not have enough facts to discuss anything.
If you are organising some camapign, please find the answers to questions rather than saying current or past goves are corrupted.
Moreover get your budget details out. Then we all can discuss where the money going to come as well as what projects will be achived with given time period.
Anada, dear chap, you nailed that blackguard and traitor Jay to the wall. One of the key measures of strength of a democracy is whether it transitions power according to constitutionally prescribed manner at time of an extraordinary crisis such as an assassination of the president. When President Premadasa was assassinated by Jay's favorite terrorists there was no thought of a military coup or some other unconstitutional means of transition of power. I know the Chief Justice during that dark time, Justice GPS DeSilva. Old boy once told me how he got a phone call soon after the assassination of the President. The military escort arrived soon after to take him to swear in Prime Minister DB Wijetunga as the acting President pending an election for a new president by the Parliament. He told me he was a bit shaken up by the events but was very reassured to see that the military was respectful of the civilian leadership and the constitution.
So this blackguard Jay wants to destroy one of the most precious rights people of Sri Lanka have, the power to elect their own leaders according to the constitution. Over our dead bodies military coup man!
Cheers!
Where is this video
perein,
If you think about the future of our country, you would know of all the problems.
Why is Mervyn the vermin a Minister? Why to do we have 110 of them?
Your loyalty is to a leader, not to the country. Tiger diaspora also support their leader kill Tamils. You support your leader rob the whole country. What is the difference?
Fonseka2010 the LTTE Terrorist,
You are nothing more than a subhuman terrorist scum who is here to create a crack among patriots. We have seen your jokes and skunk-work many times and chances of you fooling anybody is very minimal. Please keep trying BS to see if this goes anywhere.
Its meaningless to arguing who should get the credit for military victory. Is same as arguing after an individual defeating another individual enemy in karate - arms should get credit not the legs, no it should be eyes, wait no.. it should be brain etc.
Its the combination of MR/GR/BR/SF together with all SLDF strength plus political backing from JHU/JVP and diplomatic support.
In the famous operation liberation DenzilK had the chance to get VP but JRJ failed.

"In the first incident Thursday early morning eleven Tamil youths took a flight to Singapore. But the Singaporean Immigration and Emigration officials refused permission to these youth to enter Singapore, and sent them back to Colombo. The youths returned the same day night around 10:00 p.m. and were taken into custody by the State Intelligence Unit with the assistance of Katunayake police at the Katunayake International Airport, sources said.
In the second incident that took place on Friday eighteen Tamil students were arrested by the State Intelligence Unit personnel when they arrived in Katunayake International Airport to take a flight to London. The youths had valid student visas issued by the UK embassy, sources said.
Since July this year, special teams of State Intelligence Unit and police have been deployed in the Katunayake international airport to monitor the movement of Tamils who go abroad, according to sources in Colombo."
No_MESS,
SLG puts it forward very eloquently. I would like to highlight one paragraph from SLG's article for all the patriots.
The contribution to the victory of those patriots of indescribable valour, the Tamil informants, who served the Country while knowing that only slow and agonising deaths awaited them and their families if they were detected, must necessarily have been great, but by reason of its nature, the extent of that contribution can never really be known.
These men deserve the nations highest honor and respect. Even though their sacrifices are as hard as any other soldier, these are the men and women who can close petty racial gaps. I hope that the government will recognize these heroic sons of Mother Lanka and reward them with land and property. We need to make sure that these heroes and their decedents receive the highest respect of our nation wherever they go.
Our Central Bank investigator is a geneous. He knows everything about Raja's good faith. I won't be surprised if Mahen (deshapaluwa) start washing Raja's linen too. LOL.
""At the time Mr. Rajaratnam made the donations, the TRO was not banned by the Sri Lankan government, nor the US. It was a donation made in good faith," the central bank's investigations unit chief, D.K. Wijesuriya, told AFP."

sam,
"reward them with land and property."
my thoughts too.
but MOST families of war heroes live in,
1. unlivable lands
2. government lands illegally
3. disputed lands
4. parents' houses after marriage bcos they have nowhere to go
they won 1,500,000 hectares for the country but have nothing for them!!!!
TNA terrorists have houses everywhere.

Rajaratnam and the Tamil Tigers Connection
October 18, 2009 , 11:21 pm
Raj Rajaratnam
Updated: As Zachery Kouwe and I report in The New York Times, Raj Rajaratnam, the hedge fund executive accused of leading a $20 million insider trading ring, has drawn scrutiny for donations he’s given to his homeland of Sri Lanka.
More specifically, authorities have looked into millions of dollars in donations that apparently landed in the coffers of the Tamil Tigers, the violent separatist group that battled the Sri Lankan government for a quarter-century until earlier this year.
A 2007 investigation into the American branch of the Tigers, formally known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, or L.T.T.E., turned up an “Individual B” who authorities say donated $2 million to the rebel group. People briefed on the matter, confirming a report in The Wall Street Journal, said that individual was Mr. Rajaratnam.
According to a federal complaint that accuses Karunakaran Kandasamy of being the head of the L.T.T.E.’s American wing, Individual B is described in a Tamil-language letter found by investigators as “among the people who provide financial support for our struggle for freedom.” It also describes Individual B’s “long lasting desire to meet and discuss with the National Leader” of the L.T.T.E., Velupillai Prabhakaran. (Individual B is mentioned on pages 10 through 12 in the complaint below, as well as page 22.)
However, it’s important to note that Individual B was never named in the complaint, and Mr. Rajaratnam was never charged in that case. There are no apparent links between the L.T.T.E. case and the insider trading charges.
In 2005 and 2006, a charity Mr. Rajaratnam founded to help rebuild Sri Lankan homes after the devastating 2004 tsunami donated a total of $3.5 million to the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization, a charity law enforcement officials later accused of raising funds for the L.T.T.E. See the Internal Revenue Service documents here and here.
Jim Walden, a lawyer for Mr. Rajaratnam, said in a statement that his client is not an L.T.T.E. supporter. Mr. Walden added: “As everyone knows, Mr. Rajaratnam gave money to rebuild homes destroyed by the tsunami. His donation was responsible for rebuilding thousands of homes for Tamils, Sinhalese, and Muslims without discrimination. He obviously had the homes rebuilt, as they are standing today. Go see them.”
Update | 11:25 p.m. A spokesman for the Sri Lankan defense ministry told The Financial Times that his country’s government believes Mr. Rajaratnam was financing the “L.T.T.E. frontline organization” through several schemes. The spokesman did not elaborate.
Update Oct. 19, 2009 | 9:56 a.m. Here’s a statement from the Sri Lankan Central bank:
The Central Bank states that investigations are yet continuing in relation to the funding allegedly provided by Mr. Raj Rajaratnam to the T.R.O. Accordingly, any reports that suggest that such investigations are concluded or that Mr Rajaratnam has been cleared of possible involvement are incorrect and misleading.

Sunday Times is writing all kinds of nonsense these days in an attempt to tarnish the image of the Government. One thing may be true, General is coming to USA to renew his greencard, and while in the USA he will meet with Robert Blake in his official capacity.
Eelamists were dreaming about war crime trials and US Senate resolutions about genocide. All of that is a fantasy.
Moshe,
Rewarding soldiers with land is the right thing to do. I would extend it further and make this an entitlement to all government servants.
During the Premadasa regime, what ever his faults were, Premadasa did give housing, in government housing schemes, to certain public servants.
If soldiers get agricultural lands, then the government should help them with the inputs.
The Army also owns several large farms. Additional farms can be set-up in liberated areas. These farms could be modeled after Kibbutz style collective farms
Ponseka,
Mahinda is going through the Guru Maha Dasawa from last year. In his horoscope, Guru has become Uchcha. Generally the Guru Maha Dasawa will be very good. Bad Udu Dasas cannot change the overall good things.
He became president during Rahu Maha Dasawa. Guru dasawa will be even better.
Piyasena Rathuvithana like all humans like to get attention. If he says the truth who will publish it in newspapers?
You can believe any bull shit you want but at the end of the day you will be disappointed.
Ninja/sam,
You didnt get what Iam saying,
Throughout the history, SL people were were keen to eradicate LTTE, except few politisions , as of today.
There were lots of politisions, even though we hate some of them, had genuine will to finish LTTE and those GOVT fought for years with LTTE as a team, but failed misarably.
You have seen team work even past, but those teams failed to do the job, becase allmost all ARMY commanders had "chow chow atitude" towards LTTE.
It is all team work, but who made the difference is SF.
Ass-itree,
Do not talk nonsense here man.
True, I did support the LTTE for a long time, but now I am a changed person. I do not believe any longer on LTTE's violent ways to win our objectives.
We believe Fonseka must be be president for the good of the country. Of course, he is not experienced in politics so Ranil Wickremasinghe will make all the decisions for him until he matures politically.
This is all for the good of the nation that we do this. Please support us.

sirima - didn't want to rid the LTTE. kept the thing going.

RP - never bothered to wipe out the LTTE
DBW - too little too late. no plan for anything.
CBK - limited operations were to liberate LAND, not to genocide the LTTE
RW - only intersted in eating vezapillai's cum drops. so obviously VP must live for ranil to eat them!!

{If MR, GR clan trying to corner , SF , I would use every penny at my disposal to defeat them in next election.}
Somehow, I think this type of statement is playing right into the hands of the traitorous clan. This is exactly the type of hype that anti-SL forces now love to see. I agree with OaOA, let us not jump the gun here…..we need to be calculating, observant and most of all, we need to be judicious in what we say and do at this critical time (where all evidence is pointing to an orchestrated effort to break up the SF/GR/MR alliance that won the war).
casc,
100% agree.
we should do more. kibutz are not only for soldiers' families, its for ppl.
youth in kibutz have to take turns in guarding it. but when newer setttlements expand, the risk of terror infiltration in older settlemts reduce.
BUT SL don't have this problem at all. so no reason for not doing it.
when the war was on, GOSL and SLDFs did what we discussed here (although there's no direct connection). but now patriots' thinking and govt thinking seem to differ.
Hey FF, how goes it? Did you get my last email? Hey, that party you asked me about is no long in the US...will talk to you about it later...good going here bro...keep castrating the eelam whores...sorry bro, I got to scram, got a flight to catch at 6am tm....will contact later.

Rash of People Smuggling Boats Heading for Australia!
...................
People smuggling kingpin among asylum seekers: Australia
AFP on Monday, October 19, 2009
A convicted people smuggler has been found among a boat-load of Sri Lankan asylum seekers holed up on a wooden vessel in Indonesia, Australian Foreign Minister Stephen Smith said Monday.
The revelation came after Australian authorities said a new boat carrying more suspected asylum seekers had been picked up heading to Australia, the third such vessel detected in as many days.
The smuggler, Abraham Lauhenaspessy, known as "Captain Bram", was arrested after being found on the boat picked up by Indonesian authorities last week as it carried 255 Tamil asylum seekers towards Australia, Smith said.
"Abraham, or Captain Bram as he is known, has been taken into custody by Indonesian authorities," he told Australian public radio hours before travelling to Jakarta with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd for a visit that will include talks on people smuggling.
"I am advised that he was on the boat. He is now in their custody. He is of course someone who has previously been convicted of people smuggling offences and well known to Australian and Indonesian authorities," he said.
"He has been detained. Let's now leave that to the Indonesian judicial and legal processes to take their course," he said ahead of his trip to attend Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's inauguration.
Fairfax newspapers alleged that "Captain Bram" had brought more than 1,500 asylum seekers to Australia since he emerged as a key organiser of Indonesia's people-smuggling operations in 1999.
A spokesman for the Sri Lankan asylum seekers, who at the weekend ended a hunger strike launched after they refused to disembark their vessel moored in an Indonesian port, confirmed Captain Bram was on board.
The spokesman, known as Alex, claimed the vessel was intercepted after Captain Bram had turned it back after failing to make a rendezvous with a smaller boat that would have returned him to Indonesia.
He insisted on turning everyone back to avoid being detained by authorities in Australia, where people smugglers can be jailed for up to 20 years, Alex claimed.
"The selfish move that he has made has cost 260 lives... a decision that he made... to save himself has ruined our families' lives as well.
"It has destroyed a dream that people were searching for freedom," Alex told public radio.
Indonesian officials were trying to negotiate with the Sri Lankans, who have threatened to set fire to their boat if they are forced to disembark in Indonesia and undergo asylum procedures that could take years.
Australian authorities said they had intercepted another boat carrying more than 30 people suspected asylum seekers, the 33rd vessel this year, off Australia's Ashmore Island late Sunday.
A second group of 79 asylum seekers was meanwhile transferred to an Australian warship after the vessel they were sailing got into trouble and sent out a distress signal, Smith said.
The boat had been intercepted by the HMAS Armidale on Sunday after Indonesian search and rescue authorities asked for help from Australia.
"Those people have now been placed onboard the HMAS Viking which was in the area," Smith said, adding that they were being taken to Australia's offshore detention centre at Christmas Island.
A third ship was reportedly in trouble in Malaysian waters.
Three Indonesian men were due to appear in court in the western city of Perth charged with people-smuggling offences after two boats carrying 146 people were intercepted on September 12.
The pair face up to 20 years behind bars or fine of AUD $220,000 if found guilty.

I agree Fonseka should be the president for very different reasons. He should declare the war against corruption and stupidity.
Those who try to scam the country away should be given LTTE lamp post treatment.
Sri Lanka needs to win 5 wars, one down and 4 to go. Fonseka can do it if he wants.
You know what,

In my view, pussycats will again loose this, by getting carried away. More they write better for us.
Fonseka 2010,
You do need to get some solid facts mate.
Still you get minor stuff which are not new for last 2 years. Get something much better than Mervyn's case.
I do have loyalty to leader as well as country. Most of all I do respect every one. Do you?

Lankan refugees in TN living in poor conditions- Karuna
Government Minister Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan (Karuna Amman) has slammed the conditions under which Sri Lankan refugees are kept in Tamil Nadu (TN) saying that the Tamil Nadu government has not made any effort to improve the conditions for the people who have been there for well over a decade.
Moshe
I think JRJ should be given little more credit. He gave India and Indira shits when she tried to interfere. When the Vadamarachchi operation took place he went for the kill. From what I have heard we almost won.
Rajiv G then threatened an 'invasion. LTTE was pushing India for a cyprus style invasion and creation of a ealam. What JRJ feared was a that. If he didnt withdraw the things would have been different and it could have been better for the ealamists. Who knows.
Also one cant compare the world situ then and now. Post 9/11, and many outside things also worked for us. I believe JRJ if in todays situ would have done it.

Illegal migrants paid US$45,000 to enter Canada: report
By Fabian Dawson
National Post
October 19, 2009
VANCOUVER -- The 76 illegal migrants who were intercepted on a rusting ship off the west coast of Vancouver paid up to US$45,000 each for a new life in Canada, one of their compatriots has claimed.
The suspected asylum seekers, who are being held in a Vancouver jail pending refugee claims, are believed to be one of four groups of Sri Lankans in four ships operated by human smugglers.
Australian authorities said the international human smuggling operation is linked to the notorious Abraham Lauhenapessy, known as Captain Bram, who has spent the last decade smuggling Sri Lankans, particularly Tamils.
The illegal migrants reportedly paid up to US$45,000 for the Canadian option, which involved the cross-Pacific journey on the Ocean Lady that was intercepted and towed to Victoria last Sunday.
The other vessel with 254 Tamils aboard is currently tied at a wharf in West Java, Indonesia.
Australian and Indonesian authorities said that Lauhenapessy is on that boat, which was originally heading toward Australia.
Two other vessels carrying Sri Lankan Tamils were reportedly sending distress signals Monday morning. They are suspected to be in Indonesian and Malaysian territorial waters.
One of the illegal migrants on the boat in Indonesia identified by Australian and Indonesian media as Alex said he knew of the journey to Canada on board the Ocean Lady.
He said he was offered a place on the Ocean Lady, but chose the Australian venture because, at US$15,000, it was much cheaper than the Canadian option.
However, Alex now said some on his boat wished they had chosen the boat heading for Canada.
Last weekend, the Tamils on the boat in Indonesia threatened to cause an explosion if they were not immediately resettled in Australia or another country.
"We can see some light. We hope we can receive the assurances about our future that will allow us to resolve the situation," said Alex, whose wife has just given birth to their third child in Sri Lanka. As well as the 254 Tamils, there is one Burmese man aboard the boat, which has only one toilet.
Those on board the Indonesian boat each paid human smugglers US$15,000. Parents even paid the full amount for newborn babies and young children.
The recent investigation into the Sri Lankan ships is expected to focus on Lauhenapessy, the Indonesian-based people smuggling kingpin.
As the Ocean Lady was heading toward Canada, Lauhenapessy was sailing on a wooden boat toward Christmas Island in the South Pacific with 254 asylum seekers planning to get into Australia. The asylum seekers had reportedly paid him a total of US$4-million.
Lauhenapessy turned the boat around close to the island because he missed a rendezvous with a smaller boat that was to pick him up, said Alex, who is acting as spokesman for the Tamils on the vessel.
"It was in the night and we were sleeping and we didn't know what was happening," Alex told Australian media by phone from the boat tied up at a wharf in West Java.
Illegal migrants paid US$45,000 to enter Canada: report
....continued....
Lauhenapessy has reportedly brought more than 1,500 asylum seekers to Australia since he emerged as a pivotal organizer of Indonesia's people smuggling operations in 1999.
He turned the boat around and returned to Indonesia to avoid arrest as he could face up to 20 years in jail in Australia.
News of his presence on the boat in Indonesia has prompted Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to fly to Jakarta to seek a solution with the Indonesian government to stem the influx of asylum seekers into Australian waters.
Lauhenapessy, an Ambonese with strong links to a criminal network at Jakarta's main port, had been a top-priority target for Australian Federal Police for more than five years.
After eluding a number of elaborate "sting" operations by Australian and Indonesian police, including one in Cambodia in 2001, Lauhenapessy was eventually arrested in Jakarta in June 2007 following a long-term joint operation between the Australian Federal Police and Indonesian police.
An Indonesian court sentenced Lauhenapessy to two years in jail and fined him the equivalent of about $3,000 US in December 2007 on charges of hiding, protecting, harbouring or providing a livelihood to people known to have entered Indonesia illegally.
The charges related to the arrival of 83 Sri Lankan asylum seekers in international waters off Australia in early 2007.
BBC wrong on RR nationality - Hides ethnicity, too...
More than 24 hours after the arrest of Raj Rajaratnam by the New York Police for insider trading, the BBC kept on repeating that he is a "Sri Lankan Billionaire".
Observers noted this as surprising for a news organization that regularly stresses on the ethnic differences in Sri Lanka in its news presentations, with references to the Sinhalese-Buddhist majority and Tamil-Hindu minority.
Raj Rajaratnam was born in Sri Lanka but migrated to the USA as a child and has been a US citizen for a very long time, amassing a fortune, especially as a Hedge Fund dealer.

I ADVISED against allowing Thol Thirumavalavan to visit the IDP camps recently with the Tamil Nadu team, given his DEMONSTRATED ANIMOSITY towards Sri Lanka.
Well HERE IS FURTHER PROOF OF HIS ENMITY!
...............
Thiruma calls Rajapaksa war criminal
T Murugandham
October 20, 2009
CHENNAI: A week after shaking hands with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Viduthali Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan has called upon the international community to declare the Lankan President and his brother ‘war criminals’ and impose economic sanctions on the island nation.
Thirumavalavan, who was part of a delegation of MPs from Tamil Nadu that visited some camps for the internally displaced Tamils in Lanka, took a stand independent of the delegation’s on Monday. “No one can tolerate the sufferings of Tamils in the camps. I am at a loss to understand why countries, including India, continue to be mere spectators to this tragedy,” he said.
Thirumavalavan said the displaced Tamils he met in the camps had cried and pleaded with the delegation to poison them rather than let them live in the camps. The camps were crammed, with eight to 10 people made to live in spaces meant for just two persons, he said in a statement.
“Though resettlement of displaced Tamils and extending help for this purpose are immediate requirements, the most important things to be done now are exposing the human rights violations committed by the racial rulers of Sri Lanka and punishing them for the crimes,” he said.
Thirumavalavan said he would lead a demonstration in Chennai on October 22, pressing for his demands. Earlier in the day, VCK cadre were arrested for attempting to burn the effigy of Rajapaksa near Perambur railway station.
Cruise holiday from hell?
In the first incident Thursday early morning eleven Tamil youths took a flight to Singapore.
My Comment at ExpressBuzz.com
Why does Thol Tirumavalavan, this paragon of compassion for the long suffering Tamils of Sri Lanka, not do ANYTHING to alleviate the condition of the Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in Tamil Nadu? Their condition in Tamil Nadu, the Homeland of Tamils, is DEPLORABLE.
Yet, this man who sheds CROCODILE TEARS to garner votes, DOES NOTHING! He is too busy SPILLING GASOLINE ON THE COMMUNAL FIRE in Sri Lanka, because he can BASH SRI LANKA at NO COST and SCORE POINTS at home!
What is he doing to ease temple entry to low caste DALITS in Tamil Nadu?
What is he doing to deliver access to public water resources, to jobs and education?
NO! NO! He has no time for that .. he is too busy FASTING-UNTO-DEATH leading gullible people to IMMOLATE themselves on the EELAM altar!
MONUMENTAL HYPOCRITE!
Patriots,
There are many people who think that they can belittle our campaign by using our name to write filth.
They think that by irritating the campaign team they are doing good service to their political masters. These tribal people who love leaders more than the country mostly fled to the USA (like one of their leaders) during the height of battle.
What we have is a message of CHANGE. A recipe of HOPE.
We believe you will continue to support the People's Fonseka2010 campaign.
No_Mess,
This shows that there are TRAITORS in the system allowing the departure of these individuals without valid VISAS.
Clearly, there are people at every level of the ticket issuing, airline check-in, and security checking steps who have been paid off.
The people who were returned from Singapore were probably caught by Singaporean immigration officials who could not be BRIBED!
This is just the tip of the iceberg! Is it any wonder then that 20,000 IDPs have escaped from IDP camps?
Most likely many of them are LTTE cadre!
Corruption goes high up the food chain.
When something is wrong at air ports it means the problem definitely goes up to ports and aviation minister and even the president.
Patriots,
Let's weed out this corruption menace that is eating even the hard earned victory against the terrorists.
Patriots,
It was Mahinda Rajapaksha who provided the leadership to our General to achieve great results.
I take back my comments against him.
All patriots should vote for him. He will fight corruption better than anyone else.
Our General has decided not to contest the election but to canvass for support for Mahinda.
Ananda + All;
[[This shows that there are TRAITORS in the system allowing the departure of these individuals without valid VISAS.

What hurts me is, how they are pardoned behind curtain, when security forces nab them with dirty hands.
As per what we hear, most these ppl are powerful ppl in MR's own administration. I am very much OK with corruption as long as it does not matter to national security [does not mean I appreciate or promote it]. But when there is clear evidence that they knowingly supported Pussycats for cheap money, they shud be shot dead publicly.
Round about the time of War victory [and few months before when they were sure of it] lots of smelly filthy big flies flocked around president. They are still around him, trying to take their wealth out of our beloved country. For them, anything is $$. I'm so glad that SLDF has done a great work in caching them, but then after ...
The Pussycat escapade is a big reason why I doubt about the future of current administration and why I think that deciding the votes in next GE will be VERY VERY brain killing. Under the beetle leaf there are hundreds of different lines, and it really needs an Einstein to decide which of them are patriotic and benevolent.
Ninja, please do not think I am a fake. I use three IDs here. one is 18437290059825726588 and the other is 14583308549449744759. The other one is 02182880136357160283. This is to prevent from fakes taking over my ID here as well as to show how balanced I am in my views. Please concentrate on the issues here and not about my ID okay….we are here to support Mahinda for president (as I said ealier) through Fonseka and hope you will support our cause.
If MR is a great leader all he did would have been success.
But his only success was the military victory.
What happened to Mihin and everything else MR tried? All fail.
That means military victory only because Gen. Fonseka wiped out corruption and promoted officers by merit in the army.
Yes. We can do the same for our country. Gen. Fonseka is a the future.
All tribals who love one leader more than our country need to start thinking as Sri Lankan.
The Facebook campaign now has more than 5, 000 supporters. Yes. That is another 1, 000 supporters in last 36 hours. Prepare for CHANGE.
Ranil Wickramasinghe is the most corrupt person in Sri Lanka. She is also a lesbo. Who will vote for her party?
Tell me patriots?
Only other lesbos.
General has decided not to fall into the lesbo trap.
The campaign of Fonseka 2010 appeals to patriots to rally behind Rajapaksha once again because the great General is doing so.
Lets fight lesbo corruption of Rani.
Vote for Rajapaksha.
Patriots,
After General Fonseka fukked Tamil Tigers in the asshole, I have gone mad.
I don't know what I'm saying sometimes.
Please vote for Rani the lesbo. You voted for a woman then you voted for a man. Everyone cheated you. Now vote for a lesbo and see the difference.
Vote for Rani Wickramasinghe.

haha. This tribal has gone crazy.
It reminds me of tiger diaspora that went crazy because they supported one leader even though he was killing Tamils.
Now people who support R Bros even though they are robbing and ruining Sri Lanka are also going crazy.
What is the difference between these two terrorist clans?
Also the people's campaign does not support RW. We know what he did to this country. RW now has support of only 10%. So, even if as tribal says we split UPFA vote, there is no way for RW to win anything.
No right thinking Sri Lankan will vote for any existing politician or party. Think Sri Lankan, vote Sri Lankan.
Patriots,
R brothers ruined the country. Can't you see that. I mean R sisters.
R sister are Rani Wickramasinghe, My Three Wickramasinghe, their lesbo marriage to one another.
No right thinking man or woman will vote for Rani Wickramasinghe lesbo.
Mangala lesbo also joined Rani. Now Rani will win.
I'm going mad patriots. Excuse me.
I insulted the great General and now I'm paying it.
Forgive me General Fonseka. Forgive me Rajapaksha. You are the future of Sri Lanka.
I get anti Rajapaksha tantrums please forgive me. How hard he fukked our Thalaivar. So hard that Thamiz people feel they were fukked.

Names of false news sites to be announced – Media Minister
October 20, 2009 01:49 pm
Government today said that it will publish the names of websites that have spread false news in the recent past in an attempt to destabilize society. Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena addressing a press conference today said that a public announcement will be made naming these sites which are according to him using the internet without the responsible usage of the press freedom.
Hey Fake Fonseekalan 2010,
Remember us? You used to come and fake Mahen (joke was on you though, ha ha!). Now you are faking Fonseka2010 (contradiction in terms, coz he a faker too).
Good job bro, keep it going.
Mahen anna,
He is the fake one. I'm the real one.

Websites which distort facts to be blacklisted- Government
I assume "distort facts" means critical of GOSL/Rajapakse cabal and reporting independently.
It's ironic that on the same day Reporters without Borders ranks SL (out of 175) in press freedom rankings.
Close to new found friends Iran (172),Burma (171), China (168),Syria (165).
{Automatic prior censorship, state surveillance of journalists, mistreatment, journalists forced to flee the country, illegal arrests and imprisonment – such is the state of press freedom this year in Iran.}
Sounds familiar?
re my previous post.
SL ranked 162 out of 175
Really? so now we only need 13 to catch up 175. Good
Ponseka2010, why did you remove my question from facbook page?? No answers?? You are pathetic.
R Bros say People's Campaign is "other parties".

/Nava Sihala Urumaya invites Gen. Fonseka to contest as Presidential candidate to save the acutely suffering people from the ‘King’s’ rule/
When SU was formed it was under heavy attacked for the name they used saying its racist.. Its non other than the INGO mafia now sitting with UNP-mongal platform who had problems with the name. UNP was successful to insert a few moles into that party and they worked in such a way SU went down. Later when CR formed JHU he was careful to keep any suspected UNP moles away from decision making. Then the moles joined UNP and their new name is 'nawa sihala urumaya'. Ironically its not under any attack for their name, instead they are sitting in the same platform together with the NGO mafia and UNP who said 'sihala karumaya' to 'sihala urumaya'.
/Govt. decides to publish news item in papers warning public to beware of website news/
Stupid.. free publicity for LNW..
Some thing is wrong with media handling.. After taking so many from UNP probably they have employed their people and seems some of them are cleverly used by UNP.. Its RP's media destroyed 50% of RP and similar thing is happening again.. These moles should be behind the ban of SF in govt media..

Jay,
Why negative comments about everything to do with Sri Lanka ?
If you go to Singapore and set-up a website critical of the Government it is very likely that you will end up in prison.
Sri Lanka is just coming out of a thirty year war. In times of war people are hanged for reporting critical of the country.
See what British authorities did to this famous personality after the end of WW2.

SL was worse than 162, a year ago.
It has marginally improved to 162.

Fonseka 2010,
Still waitting for budget info :)
Any luck?
It looks like President Rajapakse is going on a media blitz to show that all's well between him and General SF.
Its a good thing because UNP monkeys and eelam monkeys like Fonseka 2010 are making a big deal out of nothing.
Great minds sometimes think differently but at the end of the day
they will come together because of the common bond they share, which is love for their country.

Jay Haan,
I assume that your quest to see democracy and transparency is gone down the drain with your desire to have a military government in Sri Lanka. Please tell us why?
Do we witness democracy now? (apart from holding spurious elections where malpractises are widespread)
Where is the transparency?
When i made the comment vis a vis a "quassi military coup" i meant it in the context of cleaning up the whole political mafia system, politicians are made accountable (not just lip service until the next election)restoring law and order and restoring human respect and dignity.
The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today issued notice on ex-cricketer Aravinda de Silva and his sister Araliya Silva over the alleged transfer of properties belonging to F&G Real Estate Company in their names by undervaluing the said properties in lieu of their money deposited with the said F&G Real Estate Company.
The Deputy Solicitor General (DSG) Yasantha Kodagoda informed court that the investigations had revealed the connection of the De Silva siblings in the transfer of the properties belonging to F&G Real Estate Company in their name by undervaluing the said properties in lieu of the money deposited by them in the said company.
Perhaps, the DSG should also investigate why Nivrad Cabraal delayed taking actions against Golden Key for 6 months and reveal the names and amounts withdrawn during that period.
Fonseka throws his full weight behind Rajapaksha 2010 campaign.
The lesbo group led by Rani Samaraweera suffers another loss.
Jay,
"Quasi military coup?" That is a one novel way of changing the government democratically. I assume that you want the military to take over power and then hand it over to Ranil Wickramasinghe. A few questions for you.
(1) Can please elaborate exactly how such a quasi military coup can happen flawlessly?
(2) Do you think that is by plain ballot rigging UPFA won 2/3 majority in all provincial elections?
(3) Do you think that the vast majority of Sri Lankans want the present government out?
Jay
[It's ironic that on the same day Reporters without Borders ranks SL (out of 175) in press freedom rankings.

what reporters without WORK do't say is the press in Sri lanka is phony and reporters try to do anything under the press freedom to make some quick bucks.
Press freedom is just like democrazy in lanka. Our reporters are kind of like 'patriots' on defence wire
[Jay said...

Democracy is not suitable for Sri Lanka. The level of education in the country is not enough for people to understand and caste their opinion. Democracy is an excuse for whoever to rule the nation by getting votes from whatever possible ways.
We are still a nation trying to come out its tribal shells. The tribalism qualities are still within these so called patriots just by looking at their choice of words and quick anger. Compared to tribal patriots, Tamils are primitive.

Hi All,
http://www.fpif.org/fpiftxt/6504
Dont forget to read the comments
Nava Sihala Urumaya invites Gen. Fonseka to contest as Presidential candidate to save the acutely suffering people from the ‘King’s’ rule.
The Nava sihala urumaya leader Sarath Manamendra at a Press briefing today (20), urged Gen. Sarath Fonseka to contest as a Presidential candidate to extricate this country from the corrupt, selfishly family nourishing, plundering King Rajapakse family rule which has plunged the 20 million people into dire sufferings and poverty.
As part of the Opposition, he said his party invites Gen. Fonseka with all due respect to contest as a common opposition candidate, in which case he could have the blessings of the members of the three forces.
After the war victory, the President’s campaign of vilifying Gen. Fonseka and the army leaders has by now become to spread as a contempt of the Forces. The Nava Sihala urumaya leader peaking further stated thus :
A majority of our members are having a good rapport with the Maha sangha and the the three Forces. The comments and remarks made by the President and the Ministers against the Forces which won the war is deserving of censure. We disapprove of the President’s utterance two days ago at Matale that ‘an army general cannot fight a war because he is provided with arms and strength in numbers’. In that case, who fought the war? Is it the President? Is it the President’s family regiment? This statement is to demean the Forces who made supreme sacrifices losing their lives, while thousands were maimed in their effort to defeat the terrorists completely.
Hey Robert aka GulaNataKeema the Terrorist Scummy,
We killed your Thalivar in May.his remains were flushed to your birth (cesspit)place in Eelam. You too wil get your chance to meet and party with Thalivar soon.
Biling Sam,
Don't always speak like a headless horseman bung, don't have blind faith, silencing every dissenting voice is not democratic, there are patriots with dissenting voices too.
With the info available, the conclusion is that things are getting better and better between the hero president and hero commander. We don't call them such for no reason do we?
If they become best bum buddies, we ought to give the due compliments to the remaining monkeys who danced to the tune of UNP/Mongala [or vice verse]. JVP is unprecedentedly in the other side. But I have few positive remarks regarding some issues they raised in the process.
MR and SF are seen almost everyday together in a ceremony. SF has stopped "showing uneasiness". Yet big questions remain unanswered.
One major issue that came out during the controversy is that the new role of CDS, although consists all the necessary powers, is failing to do anything effectively due to the bureaucracy of the system. This has rendered [so said] SF obsolete and mundane. This is as bad as retiring him. It needs to be addressed by relevant parties.
During postwar the only meaningful ideas regarding defence came out from SF.
- Big army camps in north, with residencies [Ethnic Integration]
- Joint single SLDF, integrated into micro level
- 350,000 army + 150000 other forces
- National program for security
- MI and notably foreign MI
- Coast guard unit with purchase of new ships
I never saw anyone talking so much sense about military after war. GR could have, though he never spoke about anything. Above topics sound quite advanced compared with usual politician talks.
Therefore MR stands with the paramount responsibility of making them true, by means of a powerful CDS or any otherwise. He should understand that retiring or cornering the general will always have an impact in his future too needless to say the nation as a whole.
SF should know that allowing controversy can only loose his remaining rank for himself. Right or wrong a president will not keep a threat to him at a powerful seat. SF had this obligation from the days when Ponnaseka 2010 started his campaign. Leaving too many things open is only riskier to the man in downside - that is him.
We understand the ultimate right of MR in firing General in case he becomes a headache. Also we understand that we're compelled to vote for him [even against SF] and also for his UPFA in a GE. Nevertheless MR has some questions still needing answers for.
- How did the pussycats get away? How did the criminals who smuggled them got pardoned? [This is a very serious Q]
- How did his ministers shamelessly bash at General? How can he assure that they'd not repeat in future?
- How did the crooks and common scums [of UNP et al] find refuge in his camp and dominate the patriots?
- What is his plan to get rid from the unnecessary dogma and stupidity that surrounds his camp after victory, and seem to destroy it in a slow death?
- What about 13th [he can preview the public disagreement of 13th in SF issue]
We hope to see a good end result right now. Compared to where we were a week ago, we're doing pretty good, mainly thanks to the numerous enemies who got carried away and showed their ugly butts in public with the monkey tails hanging.
One last thing. So called blacklisting of media will only boost even more informal other media such as facebook etc. Also the whole mishmash of blacklisting lasts until ppl find about proxies. Blacklisting will educate public on that regard, for any positive side. Nevertheless, if govt fails to shut mouths with a blacklisting it will be the first time they got ignored and humiliated in public hand. A very ugly sign of degradation.
Mahen,
Fear not, we keep track of the monkeys all the time. Dissent is something I support. However, when a terrorist monkey comes here in disguise of a normal dissenter, he or she will be responded in an appropriate way. I hope this clarifies the matter.
MR goes unannounced to functions attended by Gen. Fonseka, takes a photo for media and runs away.
Still, Gen. Fonseka has not issued statement saying anything to support MR. Even if R Bros get on knees and beg for mercy for forgiveness for robbing country.
haha. What a joke MR has become. Reminds me of how the terrorist tin cans used to come to Colombo unannounced and run away after a photo. No substance.
Like the tiger diaspora went crazy now these tribal people who love UPFA more than Sri Lanka also go crazy. Soon they will get some sense after seeing lagoon.

Ms. Neistat,
Get over it. You are nothing but a western colonial stooge. This statement "It has relied instead on moral and financial support from states less concerned with such matters [abusive practices]" in your first para summarized your biased view. The whole world watched in horror as US and Europe bombed Irag to the stone age and killed over 100,000 civilians in your war against terror. Your and Human Rights Watch did nothing. Then you'll tortured, maimed, and killed prisoners of war in secret prisons for 6 years and still are continuing. What western standards are you talking about? Human Rights watch and you again in this article, refer and quote news released from terrorist organizations. This helps your cause of fund raising, but repeating lies does not make it true. The only standard the west want from asian and african countries is to be a slave nation for their economic success and your are one of their enforcers of the colonial system."

That's a comment!
Sujeewa Kokawala,
I too breathe a sigh of relief now that cooler heads have prevailed. It could have been hara-kiri for everyone concerned.
I would not give General SF sole credit for the MI and Foreign MI concept. It looks like GR is running that operation behind the scenes as in the case of the KP abduction.
http://www.nation.lk/2009/10/11/militarym.htm
Being a low profile person, there is very little reporting on that subject and on his role in those matters.
Several people were instrumental in coming up with the original concept. During CBK regime, there was a plan, according to Rohan Guneratna, called Operation Phoenix. The aim was to deploy teams overseas to assassinate LTTE leaders. Apparently CBK got cold feet and vetoed the idea.
It must be said that General SF is responsible for the revolutionary and successful institutional changes that the SL Army experienced in modern times. People will be studying about his ideas and strategies for decades to come. If he hits the lecture circuit overseas, he could easily be a multi-millionaire many times over. Of course that would be Sri Lanka's great loss.
CASC;
Technically speaking GR is hand in hand with SF. Both share these great ideas and credit is inseparable. Emotionally I believe GR is bound with his bro.
What SF did is several PhDs in Defenece related subjects, if not more. I am only worried about getting thru what he can contribute in future.
MR HAS TO interfere in making them a success, if not SF will himself resign, even if MR keeps on extending him.
GulaNataKeema the Little Terrorist Scummy,
You are just terrorist refuse. Your past track record of coming here under different names is a clear indication of your status. I could care less about proving anything to scummy like you. However, I care about others getting misled by you. as a result, you will be treated in appropriate manner.
General Fonseka has rejected the Nava Sihala Karumaya leader Sarath Manamendra's request to join him.
Instead he decided to support Rajapaksha at the next election.
Further speaking General Fonseka said that the sham lesbo backed Nava Sihala Karumaya is led by a former LTTE terrorist by the name Mannadhi Pathirannehelage Sarath Janaka Manamendra, Divulapitiya.
He was once arrested for carrying out LTTE activities with a group of 5 Sinhala LTTE terrorists. They were, according to General Fonseka,
Dinesh Buddhika Kalapalage alias Jagath, Talapalakanda, Deniyaya. Gunaratna Adhikari Mudiyanselage Priyantha Goonaratna alias Parakrama, Udagammana, Divulapitiya. Weerakoon Mudiyanselage Suranji Pradeep, Meetotamulla, Wellampitiya Jayaratna Mudiyanselage Udaya Shamal Costa, Pahalabiyanwila, Kadawata. Mohammed Lalith Seneviratna, Hokandara.
Five claymore bombs were found in their posession. They were also responsible for the five bombs that exploded almost simultaneously in Kiribathgoda, Wattala, Rajagiriya, Nugegoda and Dehiwala on January 24, 2006.
We congratulate the great General Fonseka for standing by his Commander-in-Chief.
General Fonseka's contacts gave us the following link. It proves the link between the LTTE, UNP lesbos and the unknown Nava Sihala Karumaya Party.
Elakiri. Elama kiri.
Gu-Ula-Kema;
[[Didn't I tell you patriots are dumb.]]
You eelamists are super genius :)
"you patriots", dumb or not yes we are. It automatically tells us who you are.
Thank you for saving lots of debate on your alliance.
From Daily Mirror
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had directly told the International Monetary Fund that his government would give Sri Lanka US$2.6 billion if the IMF did not approve the standby facility requested by the country, parliament was told yesterday.
Deputy Finance Minister Sarath Amunugama said this was the type of friendship Sri Lanka had nurtured especially with its regional neighbours and that the country would never forget the assistance received from countries like India and Pakistan.
“I want to place this on record. Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee telephoned the Indian representatives of the IMF and asked them to canvass for the approval of this loan to Sri Lanka.
Dr. Singh had himself said that in case the IMF does not approve the loan, India will not hesitate to provide the required funds,” Dr. Amunugama said.
He said a mega development boost was to be seen in post conflict Sri Lanka
toiletnet tells LTTE die-arse-pora not to celebrate SL's anticipated loss of GSP+ YET.
and it wants similar nonsense on SL.
this is economic terrorism.
we have to respond to this with large scale colonisation of north which will lessen the impact of economic terrorism and frustrate the TE struggle of the LTTE die-arse-pora.
our friend badrakumar has come up with another insightful analysis on saudi-iran.
very tru! he says what others are reluctant to say.
Saudi-Iranian hostility hits boiling point
"This brings us to Saudi Arabia, whose relations with Iran are passing through a period of mutual antipathy bordering on hostility. Tehran has alleged that Iranian hajj pilgrims are being maltreated by Saudi authorities and that Saudi intelligence is accountable for the mysterious disappearance of an Iranian nuclear scientist who was on pilgrimage to Mecca recently.
Saudi newspapers with links to the establishment have carried in recent months extremely vituperative attacks against the regime in Tehran, often at a personal level directed against the Iranian leadership. They have almost gone into mourning now that the turmoil on Tehran's streets following the disputed presidential election has receded. Ahmadinejad has alleged that his opposition kept up links with Riyadh in trying to bring about "regime change" in Tehran.
Saudi Arabia has two great worries over Iran. First, that Obama is pressing ahead with the normalization process with Tehran - a "thaw" was visible at the Geneva talks on October 1- and Tehran has begun responding to US overtures. The worst Saudi nightmare is coming true.
King Abdullah, who had refused to visit Damascus, landed there two weeks ago on a three-day visit in a desperate attempt to bring Syria into the Arab fold and to "isolate" Iran. Riyadh is worried that Iran's status as a regional power will get a massive boost if the normalization process with the US advances, and that can only be at the cost of Saudi Arabia's pre-eminence in the region. Riyadh helplessly watches a beeline of other Persian Gulf states reaching out to Tehran for accommodation.
In other words, Riyadh has a vested interest, which is no less than Israel's, to disrupt the US-Iran nuclear talks. Ironically, alongside the reports on the terrorist strike on Sunday, Iranian news agencies were quoting "sources privy to the Vienna talks" that the Obama administration was "considering official acknowledgement and endorsement of uranium enrichment in Iran". These "informed sources close to the talks in Vienna" said the US had "in a series of secret meetings informed its European partners of Washington's decision on acceptance of uranium enrichment in Iran"."

[Mahen,
Fear not, we keep track of the monkeys all the time. Dissent is something I support. However, when a terrorist monkey comes here in disguise of a normal dissenter, he or she will be responded in an appropriate way. I hope this clarifies the matter.]
I agree with Sam 100%.
Dissent by rational balanced people is one thing, but CONTINUOUS and CONSISTENT spewing of LTTE and other propaganda designed, both covert and overt, to destabilize Sri Lanka, incite communal passions, pit the people, the GOSL, and the military against each other, demonize the Sinhala majority for defending itself and the integrity of the nation, undermine Sri Lanka's economic and political links to the rest of the world, these are not normal actions of patriotic dissenters, but ENEMY ACTION.
Such enemies do not deserve the same consideration as patriotic dissenters. Who decides whether it is patriotic dissent or enemy action? Each of us do; we must independently decide that as people endowed with a modicum of gray cells. Given our experience of the degradation and trickery Sri Lanka was subjected to in the last 30 years, WE NOW KNOW ENEMY ACTION WHEN WE SEE IT .. we don't need a post-graduate course to recognize it.
While Jay, Fonseka 2010, Miss Information, and other assorted LTTE rats trolling the blogsphere think that Sri Lanka is departing from "democratic norms" in taking whatever action is necessary to protect itself and its people, NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH.
Each western democracy has invoked draconian restrictions on personal and media freedoms .. whenever the security threat was great enough. Sri Lanka is JUST EMERGING from a period of total war; our WORLD WAR II if you like, and is fully justified in taking all measures to protect itself against all enemies both within and outside the country, until the NATION IS SECURED, and the ENEMY ARE UTTERLY DEFEATED! Foreigners and enemies with NOTHING AT STAKE preach to us "demcracy" and "human rights' they so quickly abandon when their OWN OX IS BEING GORED; just turn a DEAF YEAR TO THEM!

Here are some instances of these Double Standards,
1. After the attack on Pearl Harbour, all US residents of Japanese descent were rounded up and quarantined in detention camps. Many of these people lost all their property in the process. They sent their children to win the highest number of congressional Medals of Honor in Europe to demonstrate their loyalty and redeem their honor!
2. After 9/11, restrictions on press freedoms and personal privacy were enacted, partly through the Patriot Act. Phones can be tapped, websites and email, and financial trasactions are routinely monitored, especially if you belong to a suspect community. If you advocate terrorism or a MILITARY COUP-DE-ETAT, you are assured of a visit from the FBI within a day, as they rightly should. It is in these ways that the American nation is protected.
3. Who has not heard of the spiriting of terrorists away from foreign countries into other third countries for interrogation by the US, after the 9/11 attack? Do you know that Al-Quaida and Taliban prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay do not have the same legal rights as US citizens, and often not even those guaranteed by the Geneva Convention? These measure were taken to protect the US under the threat of global terrorism. Ever heard of the Abu Gharib prison in Iraq and the withdrawal of Geneva convention rights from Islamist prisoners? Sri Lanka's right to an effective defence against internationally waged terrorism IS NO DIFFERENT from that of the US.
4. Britain enacted draconian security measures during WW-II, even to the extent of controlling free speech. Ever heard of the "Loose Lips Sink Ships" program? While coping with Irish REpublican Army terrorism in Northern Ireland and in Britain itself, legal protection for the Catholic Irish was almost non-existent. Yet, Miliband adopts a holier-than-thou attitude against Sri Lanka, while enthusiastically advocating Britain's lap-dog role in the illegal invasion of Iraq.
5. Need I say ANYTHING about the security measures adopted in Germany during war time?; the same Germany that now struts about beating its breast about democracy?
6. I can write an volumes by chapter and verse the instances when these "great western democracies" suspended the rights of people in times of war and terrorist threats, because the RIGHT OF SURVIVAL of an ENTIRE NATION and AN ENTIRE PEOPLE justifies those actions. Pray tell me, in what way is Sri Lanka right to SURVIVE different?
We DEMAND an EQUAL RIGHT to DEFEND and PROTECT Sri Lanka, without having these "great western democracies", failed terrorists, and assorted hypocrites adopting ONE standard for themselves and ANOTHER for SRI LANKA.
Let us be guided by the teachings of our great religions, and our own native common sense, in protecting and compassionately assisting ALL deserving VICTIMS, and confronting ALL TRANSGRESSORS with maximum firmness.
Patriots, do not listen to other voices that tell you differently.
I am the real voice. I am the one who is here as Gen Fonseka's mouthpiece. I have direct access to him and what I write here, I write after I consult him.
As I said before, I used to support the LTTE but now I believe in reaching our objectives through vote and we will get SF elected for president but it is Ranil Wickremasinghe who will make all the decisions.
Ranil is keen on giving the Tamil separatists the ISGA that the LTTE proposed in 2002 (I must admit LTTE proposed it as a stepping stone to the separate state Tamileelam and most of us still think it is the way to go).
So, please support SF for president so that we can save Sri Lanka.
One of the problems with the Chief of Defense Staff office is that its roles and responsibilities are relatively undefined. That title was picked by General Daluwatte who in the 90s was asked by CBK to fill that position. He apparently went around the world studying similar structures and picked the CDS title, which I understand is used by the British. He was the first CDS and much to his dismay discovered that Anurudda Ratwatte would not give him any authority.
During eelam war 1 and part of two, General Cyril Ranatunga had the title Joint-Operations-Commander. Becaue of his closeness to JRJ, he had the required authority to do what he wanted. During the Premadasa regime, according to Gen Rantunga's memoires, he got sidelined once Premadasa decided to secretly arm the LTTE. Gen Rantaunga was then sent to UK as Ambassador. I think other incumbents include General Wanasinghe.
Roles and responsibilities in most military organizations are based on military tradition. Some of these traditions go back hundreds of years as in the case of the British army.
People within these traditional structures know the hierachy and what is expected of them, how to relate to each other, who does what, etc based on military tradition. For example in most military bases in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka in the past, a bugler would play the last post at the end of the day.
It typically takes many years to establish these traditions. Sometimes new military structures fail because of the lack of tradition. For example during the late 70s or 80s, there was an army unit (I believe it was called the Rajarata Rifles)that was disbanded because of dessertion and indiscipline. The same thing happened in the 50s when two regiments set-up during Sir John's time were disbanded during SWRD's time, and some part of them became what is today the Sinha Regiment.
Given this context, it is not suprising that there are some growing pains over the office of CDS.
Country before party politics is what we must value.
So vote for Fonseka and he will be the ceremonial president while Ranil will be the executive president.
Yes we must not promote party politics. We must promote Sri Lanka.
Fonseka 2010,
I appreciate how you ran the campaign so far. But it is time to get serious.
Please support my campaign President Ranil.
Just to reclarify...
Earlier I said:
"We now have 5, 500 supporters on Facebook. Yes. 500 more in just 10 hours."
I forgot to add that almost 100% of the ones who signed in are from the UK and Canada, the ones who once used to support the LTTE (like myself).
"Whole of Sri Lanka wants Gen. Fonseka as our president."
With this I meant that although 100% are former LTTE supporters from the UK and Canada, we still call it "whole of Sri Lanka" as we believe in Ranil Wickremasinghe's type of peace.
"You better prepare for CHANGE."
Yes, when Ranil give the Transitional Tamil Government the ISGA, there will be CHANGE. This will save Sri Lanka from corruption.
Hope I clarified well enough....
One thing this Ponna Seka misses is that, next election is contested between a presidential hopeful and a programmed Robot. That is, by going with the plan of UNA and so called Common Candidate.
Common candidate's role is already defined as the one that abolishes the very presidency [don't they need a 2/3 is parliament for this? another joke by homo-comedians] and hands over nation to the next Premier. So if you want SF to contest for Pres Election, then you are asking him to be a one-action programmed robot and retire after that.
For the sake of logic, you shud at least call SF to be the exe Premier of that establishment, if you so much will for him to lead us.
Nevertheless, Ponna Seka 2010 does not care. For him whatever ways he can defame SF, he will.
President Ranil
How is Maithree's bijja? I heard you love Mangalee's inn-alay more than her bijja?
We will defeat corruption. We are not into party politics. We support only Fonseka who will be the ceremonial president while President Ranil will have the executive powers.
Save Sri Lanka. Vote for Fonseka.

Dear All,
SORRY FOR THE REPETITION IF SOMEONE HAS ALREADY POSTED THIS. BUT...
This is to support a man, a Sri Lankan of our own who has already created a small miracle to save the lives of poorest of the poor.
He is Dr. Wijaya Godakumbura.
He came out with a simple idea to replace the traditional bottle lamp used in poor Sri Lankan homes with a safe lamp which does not turn over and catch fire.
He has silently carried out this mission and have so far handed over 775,000 units to save twice the number with possible burns and loss of life.
We should be proud of him as he is now being short listed amongst 12 finalists to be voted for the coveted BBC World Challenge 2009, organized by BBC, Newsweek and Shell.
Attached is a flyer giving all the required info, including the link for on line voting.
Kindly pass this message to as many colleagues, friends and relations in Sri Lanka and overseas, and get as many votes as possible, to make this project the winner. If he wins, another section of poor people back home and will win the right to live safely.
Please ignore if you have already voted.
Here is the link please.

Every Sri Lankan knows Gen. Fonseka is independent People's Candidate not UNP or any common candidate. So it will be very difficult to scare people with UNP boogie.
So sorry to all tribal people worshipping Mahinda even though he and brothers rob and ruin this country. May be you are all people who ran away when times were difficult. Yes. Like Gotha. He also quit army and ran away because he was scared of front line battle. haha. What jokers you are.

CAN YOU STOP MAKING FOOLS OF YOURSELVES AND STOP RESPONDING TO THIS 2010 CHARACTER?

Commander of 611 Madhu Brigade killed in accident
Colonel Duminda Amarasekara of the 611 Madhu brigade succumbed to injuries following a road accident that took place in Thorayaya early this morning. The Colonel had been traveling in an army cab in the direction of Dambulla when the accident had occurred.
Police Spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka said that the accident had taken place when the army cab carrying the Colonel attempted to overtake a police truck that had been traveling in the same direction. The army cab had been met with an oncoming vehicle and had swerved back to avoid it, slamming into the police truck, losing control and toppling over.
Colonel Duminda Amarasekara had been rushed to the Kurunegala Hospital following the accident but had subsequently succumbed to his injuries. Three other soldiers, including the driver of the army cab have also been admitted with injuries. (SD)

The siege is over
(The Island)
Five months after the Security Forces recaptured the last square mile of territory and wiped out the entire leadership of the LTTE, Sri Lanka is behaving as though it is still at war. This may be understandable, after so many decades of fighting such a dangerous terrorist organisation, but that doesn’t make it clever.
Nowhere is this clash between perception and reality more obvious than in the sphere of foreign policy. The situation created by Prabhakaran when he forced thousands of civilians to accompany his cadres as they retreated from Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu saw many countries press the Government to declare a ceasefire and then arrange a surrender. They were ignored in what I believe was the national interest, although I wouldn’t describe everything that was done in the process with equal sympathy. It was simply the best course of action at the time. Sri Lanka had to press on with the military operation and accept the consequences, including a serious deterioration in relations with the West.
What made sense then is no longer appropriate. Instead of making use of the newfound peace to rebuild its image, Sri Lanka is busy digging trenches in anticipation of prolonged discord.
Consider the reaction to Hillary Clinton’s interjection in the UN Security Council debate on Resolution 1888. In stressing how widespread the use of rape in armed conflict was, she mentioned that it didn’t only happen in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan. Bosnia, Sri Lanka and Burma had been afflicted by the same problem, she said. It was a passing reference of little importance. The Government wasn’t at risk of being denied aid or trade concessions. There was no talk of sanctions. The UN Security Council members weren’t even proposing to issue a statement.
She might as well have announced that the United States had launched a nuclear missile at Cinnamon Gardens. Politicians rushed onto the airwaves to shout about it, and there were several poster campaigns and vocal demonstrations outside the embassy. The JHU started one of its ridiculous petitions. Add to that about half a dozen newspaper editorials and more than twenty letters and articles condemning her with what could most politely be described as extraordinary vigour, and that was just in English. Colombo looked poised to sail on the Statue of Liberty.
I’m not suggesting that there was nothing wrong with what Hillary Clinton said or that she ought not to have been challenged. Her statement gave the impression that the Security Forces had been sexually abusing women as part of their advance through Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu, which I don’t think is the case.
It is a question of tactics. What was needed in response to the incident was a polite note to Ambassador Butenis requesting either a retraction or the forwarding of information on such crimes for the purpose of further investigation. That would have been proportionate and in keeping with the actual situation as regards Sri Lanka and the use of rape in armed conflict.
Screaming that members of the United States army have been responsible for sexual violence from Okinawa to Abu Ghraib and Colorado isn’t going to help. Hillary Clinton knows about it, and she probably believes that the issue in Sri Lanka is different.
tbc..
The siege is over
(continued)
I am simply befuddled by the people who think that it is sensible to argue that Hillary Clinton mentioned Sri Lanka in this way because she received and then gave back a few thousand dollars from sources connected to the LTTE when she was running for the Democratic Party nomination for president. First, that could never be enough to buy the Secretary of State. More importantly, this accusation can only encourage her to press on with her criticism of Sri Lanka. It is rather like the other mad suggestion being thrown around that the remarks were part of a plot by the United States government to overthrow Mahinda Rajapaksa because Barack Obama is jealous of his victory over terrorism. It’s completely stupid.
A frightening number of people brought up Monica Lewinsky. If they keep going on this line, Hillary Clinton will very soon be convinced that Sri Lanka is run by an offshoot of the Taliban.
The impression given is that this country does not respect women and cares little about rape. I sometimes wonder myself.
Mindsets have been so warped over all these years of war that a lot of people now seem to be completely incapable of dispassionate and rational analysis of criticism. They don’t believe that any unfavourable remarks could possibly be true or at least offered with genuine intentions, even when that is the most likely possibility.
Some commentators went so far as to argue that the Security Forces hadn’t ever been accused of sexual violence, never mind its officially sanctioned use as a weapon in the war against the LTTE. They are sadly misguided. The list of allegations is disturbingly long. That incidents didn’t happen on the battlefield makes such blanket denials even more worrying now that the main task for the Security Forces is among civilians. It is not reassuring to argue that the general inability of the criminal justice system to punish the guilty is responsible for the lack of prosecutions.
One person even suggested that rape was not part of Sri Lankan culture. Wake up, sir.
This blinkered attitude is clearly a barrier to progress in ridding society of such crimes, but it also reinforces the negative image of the country that has found its way around the globe. Hillary Clinton is hardly the only person to think badly of Sri Lanka. Effecting a change in global public opinion requires intelligent presentation as well as supporting facts.
What was most ludicrous about the reaction to Hillary Clinton’s brief speech was that most of the venomous insults were spat out after her office had despatched a letter admitting that it had no knowledge of rape being used by the Security Forces in the most recent phase of fighting. This is what really mattered, as the Government said itself. Nothing more was ever going to be forthcoming, and it didn’t come.
It is about time that Sri Lanka stopped regarding interaction with other countries as an all-out battle. There is no need for it, and such an approach has consequences.
Now that the fighting on the ground is over, the tasks facing the Government in countering the threat posed by the LTTE have changed dramatically. The primary theatre of operations has moved overseas to where the funds and political leaders are to be found, which is mainly in the West. Cadres have been making their way abroad too. The situation is obviously much less urgent than when Prabhakaran was holed up in the No Fire Zone with thousands of civilians, but it still requires action. That will need the collaboration of the authorities in Washington and other national capitals, which is unlikely to be forthcoming if the old strategy of confrontation persists.
Sri Lanka has to take note of its new circumstances and adjust. This is true in many ways, as I have argued elsewhere.

The Siege is over ? What a joke !
A better title would have been "the bullying goes on."
This Fonseka campaign is spreading too fast. We need to nip it in the bud before all the stupid village folks start getting wrong ideas.
JVP politburo member and parliamentarian K.D. Lalkantha said the JVP has decided to support the candidature of General Sarath Fonseka if he contests the next Presidential election as the common candidate.
Lalkantha made this statement at a press conference organized by the National Trade Union Center (NTUC) at the Library Services auditorium to inform the media of the future course of action to be adopted by the Center.
He said the Presidential election would be like a cricket match to General Fonseka who has won in the battle field and that the former Army Chief had more support of the people than the government’s candidate at the election.
Lalkantha said the government had no other official duty than contest elections. He further observed the present administration has spent an additional Rs. 1540 million on elections alone while spending only Rs. 700 million to build houses for the war heroes .

Terrorists have nothing in common with Gen. Fonseka to make him president of this country.
That we can see even on this website.

When you mention siege does it mean road blocks and security enclosures?
I can assure you that the humble people on the road and majority will welcome it. It has been a joke and a nuisance and if the terrorists want to get through it they will use their money to get someone with authority to get pass. It’s really a nightmare and a nuisance to the well being of the people. I go there twice a year and I know how people feel.

UNP/RW/mongal has nothing to lose.. They will any way end up with 25% in any election. OTOH, MR/UPFA hit their maximum and expected score less in any future election.
No one can stop some guy opening a blog, facebook group, twitter, myspace accounts, blogs or web sites. You need to understand this, accept and live with it. And more than that do some thing to counter such strategies is better than do nothing but need to be very careful as whatever you do may help your enemy. Further, UNP needs some topic and they have found one.
SF is responsible and answerable only to president and not for media, bolgs, or unknown websites. If SF is really going to be president some how UNP will do very thing to avoid it.

Nope, they have RW in leadership position. They cant afford to lose it, that is the only place in this country with a anti nationalist view point, so RW holding on to UNP leadership is of utmost importance to all anti- Sri Lankan forces.
"UNP needs some topic and they have found one."
Yes thanks to Gen Fonseka, you see you cant topple a government overnight, you have to chip away its popularity slowly with false propaganda.
SF is responsible for allowing false propaganda to take wings.
I stood up against the people who insulted our forces then. I have the right to demand that the forces and its officers live up to the standards and stop the false propaganda.

I don't see any problem for RW with his leadership. He survived despite losing 20+ election with 25% votes. He will probably be there until his death. This is largely due to the internal gang politics of UNP - they have too many competitors for No1 and none of them could oust him so far.
SF is an army officer and no need to answer politicians or bloggers or unknown websites. SF seems following the low and rules and just doing his duty. And its true UNP is capitalizing on this and its costing for UPFA.
I think the main goal behind this strategy is to destroy SF,GR,MR one by one (making rifts in UPFA vote base, getting power are by products) and probably anti-SL forces (including LTTE, west) are behind this. They have chosen SF as their first target and if they get any success we can see they will destroy GR next.

I agree with your analysis, but do not agree how we (collectively all patriots)should respond to it.
Here is why.
Even though terrorist is defeated, separatism or Tamil racism has not been defeated, we need constitutional amendments to prevent separatism (as in India) ,prevent anything like LTTE from happening again, and devolve power to the lower level of governance so Tamil people have self determination withing the unitary frame work.
To get constitutional amendments you need 2/3 of parliament, to get there you need to win elections.
We can never expect such changes from RW lead coalition.
We can only hope MR will do it.
This kind of false propaganda chips away government popularity and chances of getting 2/3 and our good chance of preventing LTTE from happening again.
If someones name being used for anti-national propaganda , causing this situation, that person should come out and correct it.
That is their patriotic duty.
That is where we have different opinions friend
I've been watching this with caution.
If there is no friction between Mahinda and Fonseka, as many of you wish to believe, all it takes is a short statement, on TV or in print, from Fonseka simply stating that he is happy for Mahinda to be president for as many years as people wish.
Given the ferocity of the UNP/JVP led campaign, an unequivocal statement is now a necessity. Every media has covered it; even military spokesperson has denied it; so, Fonseka is most definitely aware of events.
He is, after all, human. I am sure he believes that as president he can do all that Mahinda does and more.

But Peter, would you want him to become the president of the country?

GSL let SF/WK/RG did several interviews on ITN/govt media when war was there to neutralize LTTE/UNP propaganda. They can do the same again.
However, it seems MR doesn't want SF to be more popular. When CBK was in power MR was popular than CBK and he knows what happened. This may be one reason to ban SF from govt media.
If one wants to be president he will be doing politics and don't join army in SL. If you join army the maximum you go is becoming commander and then retire. The embassy positions given by GSL to retired commanders is also some thing 'in addition'.

HIKzz In what country army officers come to TV and say he is happy for whoever to be president for as many years as people wish..?
Its the president who appoint SF as CDS and SF is the one who accepted it. They do so becuz each other are happy for each other and on mutual trust. If there is any issue, president can simply sack him.

Gen. Fonseka won’t accept Sports Secy post by Norman Palihawadana
Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka on Tuesday (October 20) told Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge that he could not accept the post of Secretary to the Sports Ministry due to his heavy workload.
The former army chief explained his inability to shuttle between Army headquarters and the Sports Ministry, when they met at the Welisara Navy grounds, where the Defence Services team defeated Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union President’s fifteen.
Minister Lokuge told The Island yesterday that he had raised the issue with General Fonseka and the latter had said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had been informed of the decision.
Recently, the Presidential Secretariat announced the appointment of General Fonseka as Sports Secretary.
