We have received credible information on the arrest of two individuals, one a middle aged man traveling on a non-Sri Lankan passport at an undisclosed location in Bangkok in a joint stint launched by Thai and Sri Lankan authorities. The travel documents and said identity confirms with an alias of LTTE operative Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingham.
The man was carrying travel documents both under his own birth name and under other aliases at the time of arrest. A group of Sri Lankan officials is expected to fly the said two individuals to Sri Lanka shortly. Please await further information as it is made available.

This is funny. This hardcore government propagandist is asking everybody to read the political columns of 'Lankadeepa' and Sunday Times'.

Although it sounds good, it is not true. I wonder how some one can right and article and not get sued.
The ministry of defence or the General him self should take action regarding this and sue the person in SL courts.

Peter, your logic is all over the place. Tell us the exact plan that RAW is hatching. Then we will decide whether to believe it or not.

Dias had nothing to do with VP’ death, the real culprit is Pottu.They now trying to criminalize the war heroes starting with Dias who is serving abroad in Europe. Further, what the article does not mention is the importance of the Thai Kra canal to Sri Lanka.
Along with this if we consider that the SLDF engages in friendly exercises with the US and Indian forces indicates to me that MR-SF combination remains an important strategy for continued security and prosperity of Sri Lankan people.
MR has (for a while) appeared not as "stupid as he looks" to me. He is a master strategist and the above article is as good as any reason to safe guard his re-election and strengthen his party in the foreseeable future.
I will send an article to Ananda elaborating on the idea of strategic importance of Sri Lanka to Global players.
It is good to see that as we have discussed before, the diaspora Tamil separatists/ covert LTTE agents are now being pursued through legal means. The Date Line report from Oz demonstrates the importance of rendition as well and that SL is doing good work in bringing "friendly countries" into the equation.
I think the situation is very complex and SL is doing well to juggle big players. While the Western Politicos go off in their tangents, SL has done well to keep their military's close (e.g. US, Oz).
It is important for non-SL-state actors to keep attacking the individual politicos and organisations while the state keeps diplomatic channels open and maintain defence contacts.
Unlike the writer of the above article I do not think that SL is entirely under SCO. I think she is on the way to her role as a strategic center (Military but more importantly economic) juggling all big players who will be invited in on her own terms!

I am not sure whether this has been suggested. But our school system is totally wrong we ethnic integration is what we want. We have Tamil schools and Sinhalese schools. This segregation does not help integration. I know Tamil kids go to Sinhalese schools. But what about Sinhalese kids, do they go to Tamil schools? I think schools are one of the best places people get integrated. I am not sure how this is going to work, but I am sure it would be good if there are few Sinhalese students in Tamil schools.

No, I wasn't suggesting, we do that instead of ethnic integration. I was saying in addition to what you are suggesting, we should put these measures in place to make the integration much better.
I believe the friend ships at schools changes the way we look at other races. Specially in areas where there aren't many Sinhalese.

I don't this this assumption is correct. There might not be enough evidence to pin war crimes charges against us, but there would be plenty of video clips that soldiers has taken. Most probably these guys would not have an idea what it would do to our national reputation. So, instead of making this assumption, it would be good if SLA conduct some kind of investigation to see whether there are video taken by soldiers during these periods. I saw some footage by soldiers, handling LTTE women cadres. These are fine, but there would be other photos that have been taken when soldiers behave badly.
We have to make sure that these video clips do not turn up in the future. SLA should conduct an a thorough investigation and make sure that the soldiers understand that their necks are on the line if these come out in the future.

Defence Authorities Pooh-Pooh Concocted web stories and E-Mail Campaigns
It has been brought to the notice of the defence authorities that certain pro-LTTE and anti-Security Forces websites continue to burn midnight oil by way of publishing various concocted stories, replete with hypotheses and utterly false fabricated stories.
The latest were a series of purposely planted such stories and e-mails being published in a website called "Sri Lanka Guardian" in which a new version to the consequences that led to Prabhakaran's death has been concocted, involving the reputation of senior officers who gave leadership to the final battles against Tiger terrorists in Wanni and Military Intelligence.
Similarly, one more orchestrated attempt by some interested elements has been launched on the same issue earlier appeared in the Sri Lanka Guardian website referring to another Major General and some undisclosed defence sources in the Ministry of Defence. Simultaneously, anti Sri Lanka elements with the sinister motive of trying to take the Security Forces to a War Crime tribunal and tarnishing the image, appear to be doing overtime resorting to reinvigorated "e-mail" propaganda gimmicks.
Defence authorities flatly reject contents of these fabricated stories and are planning prosecution against those publishers in accordance with legal provisions that have already been published. Attempts of this mean nature are deliberately pursued by politically-motivated people or by such organizations in order to bring the Sri Lankan Security Forces into ridicule with the ulterior motive of reaching the 'international community'. Defence authorities once again condemn such attempts and urge interested parties not to engage in willful insult and humiliation to the heroic forces in the country.

Stop settling Sinhalese in Tamil, Muslim owned land - Sampanthan

Rajavarothaiam Sampanthan, parliamentary group leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), speaking on an adjournment submitted by him in Sri Lanka's parliament Friday, said that "encroachment of lands belonging to Tamils and Muslims and State has been on going in the eastern province on large scale with the support of government, and amid intimidation of minority communities by government security forces, and this should be stopped immediately," parliamentary sources in Colombo said.
Sampanthan further said persons brought from out side the eastern province are being settled in lands where Tamils and Muslims lived for generations.
"The illegal settlements are taking place in lands both sides of the Kinniya and Moothoor main road in Kinniya and Moothoor DS divisions, along the newly constructed road from Seruvila to Polonnaruwa in the Seruvila DS division, on both sides along Trincomalee-Habarana road in the Thampalakaamam and Kanthalaai DS divisions, along both sides of Trincomalee-Horowopottana road covering Tamil areas Mudaliyarkulam, Veppankulam and Pankulam in Morawewa DS division," Sampanthan said.
Sampanthan reminded the House that the largescale encroachment of lands belong to minority communities has been taking place ignoring the Eastern Provincial Council administration.
Mr.Sampanthan appealed to the government to stop all encroachments on lands belong to Tamils and Muslims in the eastern province and to take immediate step to evict the encroachers who have been brought from other provinces with the support of the government and military.
He further appealed to the government to resettle all the 1486 internally displaced Tamil families in their traditional homes in Champoor East, Champoor West, Koonitheivu, Navaratnapuram, Kadatkaraichchenai which have been declared security zone by the Sri Lanka Army after its military operation in the year 2006.
Participating in the debate, Parliamentarian Mr.Anura Kumara Dissanayake of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) asked the government to halt the distribution of land in the North and East till the resettlement process of the displaced people is concluded.
Dissanayaek said the distribution and sale of land should be stopped forthwith so that the displaced could be resettled in their original lands, adding that the main topic of discussion among the business community today was the purchase of land in the North and East. This was because of the potential investment opportunities that had come up after the war.

I guess its MD who first used this term explicitly. Many patriots including me pointed out the unsuitableness of the word. I suggested alternative words too.
However, I now feel perhaps we should straightaway use the word and DO it. In 80s its only a dozen of people said explicitly that the tigers must be annihilated. That were NalinDes, SLGunasekara and few others and without any question our (sinhala) society branded them as 'racists' upon the recommendation of some intellectuals who were INGO kakkas. And it took 20 or so years for half of the nation to realize what the solution to the war is and it took another 2 or so years half of UNP supporters to realize the same.
We need to end up with 75% sihala ratio in every district possibly except Jaffna, Baticlo and Nuwaraeliya and we should attain this in about a decade. And that is the so called final solution to the so called ethnic problem whoever crying for that. Specially when all suddas advice GSL to solve such ethnic problem GSL better do a quick state sponsored colonization program rather than waiting for decades to happen it by natural distribution by people themselves.
Before war started our main theme was peace, peace talks, peace tours, CFA and all that BS that made white masters and their INGO kukkas happy until war started. (well, thats how things were passed to MR by CBK-RW duo, not really a plan of MR.) Unless GSL plans to follow a similar approach as earlier they should stop saying BS like 'no colonization in NE, no change in ethnic ratio etc as this may suggest to sinhala people that NE is really some thing special for tamils and sinhalese should not make it un-pure.

The word colonization is wrong in the current context.
At worst it is resettlement. i.e. resettlement in the Sri Lankan land on which Sinhala Buddhists have lived and forced to evacuate due to invasions. By reclaiming the right to live in these areas the Sinhala Buddhists automatically restore the rights of any Sri Lankan peoples to settle in any region of Sri Lanka. As they have done in current times in predominant sinhala areas.
And in fact it is simply settling down in a place in Sri Lanka where one chooses.

1. resettlement means settling ppl in existing villages, towns, etc. what we need is (given the larger numbers) the development of new villages, towns, etc.
2. colonization...its not the word, but the ACT that matter. the word re-colonization describes the exact act that is required.

Lanka will inquire into a report prepared by the War Crimes Office of the US State Department, which lists 170 offences between May 2 and 18 this year, during the final phase of ground assault on the LTTE.
The controversial report is based mostly on internal reports to Washington from the US Embassy in Colombo, satellite imagery, international relief organisations and a section of the media.
Human Rights and Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe yesterday said that the US report had no legal basis. Addressing a press conference at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday, the Minister said that an independent committee would be set up within a week to inquire into the report.
The US alleges that thousands of Tamil civilians were killed due to being used as human shields or, in what the report calls, indiscriminate government shelling. The US wants Sri Lanka to act on its findings.
In the first official response to the report, the Foreign Ministry said last Thursday that the report "appears to be unsubstantiated and devoid of corroborative evidence." It accused vested interests of endeavouring to bring the Government of Sri Lanka into disrepute, through "fabricated allegations and concocted stories." It also warned that this would boost separatist sentiments.
Minister Samarasinghe said that he had already spoken to US Ambassador in Colombo Patricia Butenis on the formation of a committee and in turn the US Ambassador appreciated Sri Lanka’s decision. Samarasinghe quoted Butenis as saying that it was the right decision.
Responding to queries, he said that the committee would deal with all 72 allegations. He said that Burma, Jordan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Mexico, too, had received similar US reports.
