Paranthan falls

Paranthan fell to troops today following a surprising pre-dawn strike led by 2 Commando, 10GR etc. troops of the 58 Division. By this evening, the entire area was cleared.

Several successive waves of attackers, led by LTTE's Kilinochchi Military in-charge Velavan was beaten back. The open terrain and Villu that lay between troops and the well defended LTTE fortifications were suddenly crossed in the darkness of the morning.

The last attack came this evening. 8 bodies of Tigers were recovered. The attackers were mainly from the Imran Pandian unit, which is led by Velavan.

With this latest defeat, Muhamalai will become untenable for the LTTE. Troops now have the opportunity to attack Kilinochchi from the north and the northeast. That town too is expected to fall in January.

partly agree with you.

we cannot be whiter than white. even after the end of the war, abductions, checkpoints, detentions, fishing restrictions, etc. will continue.

there is nothing that can stop these than a group that is from the jaffna ppl for the jaffna ppl.

we should give necessary encouragements to all politico-military groups PLUS a certain amount of impunity. otherwise things won't work. they already have death threats, etc. we cannot make their lives anymore miserable.

also TULF (tamil tamil tamil tamil united liberation front) is a RACIST political party but EPDP (elam peoples democratic party) is not.

visitors come and go but ppl, armed forces, law and order MUST STAY.

ReallyCold, Ananda USA,

Thank you for your encouraging words. There are few volunteers who contribute not only with money but spend a lot of time everyday in sending over dozens of emails daily requesting funds, liasing with companies to get quatations, and maintaining accounts, updating the project site etc.

Fellow bloggers, like AnandaUSA said it takes you only 5 minutes to show your appreciation to our fellow heroes. They don’t see their families, fight bitter battles, walk on mine fields, get drenched inside bunkers, and have very little sleep everyday. Many sacrifice their lives while many others sacrifice their limbs. All we have to sacrifice is 5 minutes and a small part of our monthly income. Please take a 5 minute break and help us show our gratitude to our forces.

Please click on the donate button at the top right hand corner of Ranaviru fund . Except for the 4% paypal charge I assure you every cent you donate will be utilised for the benefit of the real heroes.

Thank you

LOL! Where did this come from the same factory as the NIC card of the 17 year old SLA soldier?

The "මූන පෙන්නන්න" (Show your face) phrase reminds me of the 1990's spree of rapes in Jaffna where people in SLA uniforms raped and always left SLA water bottles at the rape scene.

After all only a Super Modaya will tell another Super Modaya to self incriminate himself and show his face (or leave a water bottle at each rape scene in the past)!

MayilRavana මයිල් රාවන said...

Ritigala mate,

We've seen this sort of crap in the 1980's. SLDF accused of raping and bayonetting pregnant women; eating the flesh of dead soldiers out of hunger etc. Bullcrap is easy to detect when they utter them in their enthusiasm.
Traitors and LTTE moles will always spread these rumors. GSL has to counter these if necessary in the right quarters.

If it is directed at us to demoralise us or turn us against Brave Hearts, then they may as well spit looking up!

Saman/Moshi,

Tamil ULF and Eelam PDP both racist organisations.

Douglas Devananda is a person similar to Vesapille, Uma Maheswaran, Pathmanaba, jegan, Kuttimani or wardaraja. they all started same struggle in early 70s.

Devananda now sided with MR just for power and wish to govern tamils one day.

Sangaree is different man to Amirthalingam, he shows genuine kindness towards tamil people.

However, it is not up to us, tamil people should decide who is the best. Either Deva or Sangaree will do the job but I am sure tamil commoners will select Sangaree as their leader opposed to Devananda.

rana,

no mate. elam means hela which is not a racist term.

a sinhala person should not get angry for calling him a "sinhalese"; similayly a thamil need not get crossed for refering him a tamil.

elam = hela

douglas was with JRJ, RP, CBK, RW and now MR for his ppl.

he has carried out most development work WHILE the war was going on.

ananda singari joined MR bcos his arse was kicked by vesapillai by appointing the former president of the TULF - sampanthan as the TNA leader which is a good decision.

he also demands RACIST FEDERALISM whereas DD never demand anything racist. he only wants DEVELOPMENT for his ppl which is fair.

above all this he and his group fought for the country - SL which ASS cannot match.

tf5 will probably be on the western flank of 59. between tf4 and 59...

or it'll be holding division in the same region playing a role similar to tf2...

couple other possibilities are: north of 61 holding west coast, or support of 57 and 58... (unlikely)- only a matter of time before 53 and 55 join in... i dont think 4 full divisions are necessary... also 57 has 4 brigade not 3 like others...

therefore likely place is south of mullaittivu (with 59) this sector only has 5 brigade...

rana,

you are welcome mate.

but i must add that ASS is still a good politician who aproves non-violence which is commendable.

however, peaceful tamil elam (or peaceful racist federalism) is as same as violent tamil elam.

SL's enemy is seperatism NOT LTTE per se.

another point is the respect DD and AS had from the GREATEST SL politician EVER - lakshman kadirgamar.

he was FULL OF PRAISE for DD than AS.

in fcuking vain we lost LK; i still can't believe he died. i remember exactly what i was doing when i got the shit news.

i believe SL should without delay start a system of awarding more than equal rights to frontline tamil pro-SL activists. if they go extinct, SL will follow them.

according to this most troops are trasported by helicopters.

this is insane.

the poonaryn road must be repaired soon. for politicians a heli ride is a luxary so should it be for ordinary travel of soldiers too.

it is VERY expensive.

if the road is built that can be part of the infratructure development work of the north as well. why not do it now?

it may be due to the likelihood of LTTE attacking our troop convoys which is a very attractive thing for terrorists (most notably majahiddin). if this is the case, that means security is not up to the mark.

Moshi,

mate, If tigers want to attack our supply lines behind the FDL, first they have to by pass FDL which they can do only through the Jaffna lagoon. That is highly unlikely with fast depleting tiger cadres even if they managed to do that it will be a small scale excercise.

However, Pooneryn-Paranthan road is vital for SLA. We must repair B69 as quickly as possible, if it is damaged by floods.

Also another good news is soon A9 is completely will be ours as the best supply route.

A32 cannot be used for troop moblisation todate. Sangupiddy jetty is not usable for ferry services as the 122mm artillery from Soranpattu were poised to fire.
This will however change as by yesterday LTTE were packing up their Long Range weapons.
Most troop movements are done by sea.(KKS-Trinco)
The air route from Pallali to Mannar paved the way to maximise our troop transportation as earlier MI-17's were targeted by Anti Aircraft fire before the liberation of Pooneryn.

tigers were losing their ability to attack Mi-17s from mannar to palali when TAF bombed mannar AF assets.

1. It is not a coincident that LTTE had many many attempts on DD's life. That it-self a damn good evidence his commiment. MR picked the better option to go with - no doubt. After all he is a Minister.
2. DD was with GoSL well before others came on board and was single minded about getting rid of LTTE (when LTTE was on the rise or fall).
3. He has a firm political basis on which he works. Only Uma Maheshwaran out of the lot had a political basis. The rest were a buch of smugglers and murderers.

Dear Friends,

I thank Hareendra & Ananda for bringing in some light to the forum. Can see many patriots better in keyboards but in work.

I (Dhammika Siripala) one of the two Signatories of the "Ranaviru Fund" Bank Account held at the Royal Bank of Scotland, UK. The other signatory is Nimesh Janaka. We are responsible for the Account and the Fund.
However, please note that we work in our own professions full-time and spend every bit of time we can spare, towards the projects through the fund.

See the Phase 1 Delivery on www.defence.lk

http://www.defence.lk/new.asp?fname=20080727_04

It's very easy for anyone to ask for proof, where you live, what you do, how much you get, etc.

But only a few spend 5 mins to donate a bit from their hard earned money.

Yet again only a handful of people spend their spare time, which they have to spend for their family, kids, weekly shopping and importantly to have a good night sleep.

We don't ask you to spend 20 hours in front of a computer (8 at work & 12 for the Fund) and have only a 4 hours sleep a day...

We don't ask you to chase your kid away when she needs a cuddle, which she didn't get from you for weeks or months...

We don't ask you to write 460 personalised emails to your friends & contacts in one night...

We don't ask you to make overseas calls to SL Army Rehab & Army Hospital every other day to get requirements and to make several overseas calls to SL companies on your own phone bill... or write dozens of emails to suppliers...

But you have asked for proof of Office Bearers and ins & outs of the Fund, Yes we give you the details, but not everything you ask.

I have created a new page for Bank Statements at http://ranavirufund.blogspot.com/2009/01/bank-statements.html

So let us know what else you want to know !

Easy to say, difficult to do, and even more difficult to fight in the field.

We prefer doing it rather than talking about it..!

troop transfer by chopper is an alternative to time consuming sea transfer. Eastern sea was very choppy as well. But most important factor taken into consideration seems t be speed. Troos spend several days of their leave in transit and also getting them back to the front is delayed. Chopper rides eliminates that.

A 32 is is more or less a dirt raod 'cause no repairs have been done for ages.in some places it's like a minor dirt road if you rememebr seeing the wanni video clips. Repairs, I hear, have commenced but would take quite some time.

Lots of road works are being done by army engineers, infact the amount of work done is as amazing as the feats by the fighting elements

Saying that the Tigers still had "many thousands" of armed cadres intact, Prabhakaran contested claims of the Sri Lankan forces that they were poised to capture the rebel strongholds.

"Recent heavy losses faced by the Sri Lankan military in Kilinochchi battles" tell the story of how the battle is going on, Prabhakaran claimed in an e-mail interview./

Its good if SLA can use A32 for troops transportation but the problem is as Vajira said 1) A32 is still under construction 2) Sangupidi is under LTTE heavy gun range. Though it is costly I think the key is moral of troops why SLDF use MI17s.

Dear Dhammika,

Thank you for your proactive response about the bona-fide's of the Rana Viru Fund. I applaud you and your colleagues for your meritorious efforts on behalf of the motherland.

I only did minimal due diligence research before I contributed on New Year's day to your fund, and to the Donate-Bed-For-Disabled-Soldiers-Fund following a link at your blogsite.

I am certain that many of the Patriots at DefenseWire would like to contribute as well. However, given that LTTE agents use fradulent methods to raise funds, there is a valid concern on the part of these Patriots for irrefutable proof that your Fund is what it claims to be.

Therefore, I would like to suggest that you contact Defence.lk and ask them to add a Link on the frontpage of their website, to a webpage at their site giving information on your operation. This webpage should list the names of your principal officers, the Account Number for remittance of funds, information on funds received by the SLDF to date, and a link to your blogsite.

This would give the Patriots at DefenceWire the confidence to contribute to your fund without fear of the funds going astray into wrong hands.

Please contact me at LankaPatriot@gmail.com if you need further assistance. I would be glad to help, and even serve as one of your representatives in the USA.

Now I just tried to donate some money in to "Rana viru Fund" through defence.lk website. Unfortunately my transaction was failed. I am sure that I have enough money left in my credit card, but it failed. Now I am having lot of concern regrading these payment sites and specially these e-commerce websites. I would like to mention you followings,

1. These payment gateways are absolute crap. It takes more than 2 minutes to tell me about my transaction.
2. Very very slow
3. It only accepts LKR

I think someone has to think about and do something seriously in order to improve the quality of these websites and payments gateways. Once it's improved I am sure it can generate lot of money to do something serious.

What do you think?

Ra said...

Guti,

I appreciate your interest in making a donation.

1. It uses Sampath payment gateway which I found no problems for past few years. There could be a problem with contacting the Credit Card Issuing bank for verification.

Such incidents should be reported to Sampath.

2. Not for me. I think it is related to first issue or problem with internet connectivity from your end to our payment gateway.

3. It accepts only LKR. Yes. This is an issue. You have no idea how much in your currency will be transferred. However payments will go through.

So for the time being you can do a google query "100 USD in LKR" to find an approx conversion.

Defence.lk has published the details of our Project Phase 1 in their website. But as you suggested, I'll talk to them to see how possible for them to publish our details.

But I must stress that "We are not a Professional body and we do everything with the minimum time we have and the trust you put on us" - I am spending explaining everything to people in this forum, but I cannot guarantee the return. I need time to do everything with the little time I have.

Ans for other's Q's:

1. About the Blog: Why Blogs for funds?

Before I answer, I have a Q:

Why do you come to Blogs if you don't trust them?

We prefer the work rather than the talk. We thought it, we made a blog, we raised funds, we helped the heroes and we are doing it again and again.

2. Why you don't have a proper domain name and proper website?

Can you define what a "Proper Website" mean, then I'll explain.

But if you are interested, go to WHOIS database and search for "www.ranavirufund.org" domain.

Personally I paid for the domain (as you can see) and nothing is taken from the most valued donations to operate our projects.

3. Does "Rana Viru Fund" in Sri Lanka knows that you are using their name to collect money?

We are not registered in Sri Lanka, so we are not concerned very much about another body with the same name. However, we are working as we speak to register "Rana Viru Fund" as a Charity not just in SL, but in locations of our key point of operations.

We do understand the matters when come to Fund Raising, you have every right of asking as much as questions before donating.

Why don't you call "Rana Viru Sevana", Ragama on Tel: +94-11-296 0011 or +94-11-296 0019 and get your doubts cleared. Talk to Maj Jeevan Gunathilaka or Brig. Warusawitharana.

I cannot spend more time replying to single queries here, but one of my colleagues would take up anything if relevant.

However, you can write me at dhammika.siripala@gmail.com for any concerns. I'll try my best to answer your queries.

Thank you for your time.

Couldn't write one thing in replying to point 2 above.

We have the domain and own servers to host the site, skills & all software to build a site but time to develop it.

Can one of you lend us 5 hours of your day to build that? Then we'll get it up & running in about 2 weeks.

That's why we say doing is always better than talking !

Guys,

I saw the following comment in an pro-LTTP forum. Apparently, this comment is posted by an LTTE well wisher. Does anybody know the background of this comment?

Could some explain to me Why this Man Nadesan is issuing so much conflicting reports to the media?? Just couple of days ago He said that it was him that gave the interview to the Singhlease Paper not Leader Prabaharan but if you read the Q and A it's confusing to understand if it came from Nadesan or Prabaharan why so much conflicting reports from LTTE political head? I am just wondering if he is going through any philological problem. now he says "LTTE is ready for peace" tomorrow he may something else.My advice to Mr Nadesan is stay focus in your Objective and finish the Job.

Here is an other interesting comment. Just for you entertainment.

DO YOU ALL KNOW THE RAJAPAKSE' GOVERNMENT OF SRI LANKA GETS ENORMOUS SUM OF MONEY FROM SINHALA-DIASPORA FROM OVESEAS THAN THE SUM OF MONEY FROM EXPORT and OTHER FOREIGN- EXCHANGE? WE LEARNT FROM SINHALESE PARTICULARLY IN UK, AUSTRALIA, USA, EUROPE, MIDDLE-EAST COUNTRIES THAT THEY REMIT HUGE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO SRI LANKAN-GOVERNMENT OF RAJAPAKSE'S! AMEN!

Hi Dhammika,

We salute your great efforts. I know how much the Gel Socks are important to the disabled soldiers.

One thing I noticed about Foreign Origin Gel Socks is that they have been developed to stand to the Winter, thus uncomfortable in a country like Sri Lanka where humidity is high.

Since you have contact with the Ranviru Sevana, can you please see whether we could produce Gel Socks locally by the disabled soldiers themselves.

I know when Brig Navaratna was In- charge, he opened up a Garment Factory there. They could certainly include Gel Socks making also into the outfit if the right machinery and raw material can be sourced (which I do not see as an issue).

When it comes to Defilibirators, the cheapest what I have found is at Amazon.com

According to this Dailynews article, we have cleared up to EP.

“We have taken the control over the beach front from the North of Paranthan, completely cutting off the links the LTTE is having with the Jaffna front through A-9 road”, the Army Commander said.

This is coming from none other than General Fonseka. If that is the case, the terrorist must be pulling back their heavy artilary from Soranpattu as fast as they can. Hope this is accurate!

Abductions and White Van

Sri Lanka is being run by chaos. Developed western countries are run by the structure. When you step out of the law and take it to your hand by being the government, you step away from that structure and set a bad example for people. I understand the ruthlessness of LTTE. We have helped create that situation by being non visionaries.
Promoting a white van culture create hypocrites out of us. USA did something like that right after 911, however some people got in trouble doing so and victims made lot of money through lawsuits.

You can say lot of things, there is no civilized way to justify white van abductions. Sri Lanka is a small country and the world is looking at us. Our irresponsible actions can backfire on us and in fact we have lost our credibility gained by the work of Kadir since his death.

It is good that people are asking tough questions. It will be tough for creators of such charities sincerely and taking questions from insecure donors.

Few of use have created a charity like that in the past and the most questions came from Sri Lankans since we no longer trust each other. The westerners contributed money without asking questions.

Once our money entered Sri Lanka, I felt like our own Sri Lankans were gathering around to steal that money maliciously with no regard to where the money is going. At the end of our project, the government who was sitting at the side line stepped over and took over the project from us and handed over to the people like they did it with no regard to our contributions.

From that moment I made a commitment to make direct contributions to individuals than working with people I don't know. I can write a book about all my negative experience trying to do some good in Sri Lanka.

When I saw your web site, I made a small contribution without even looking at who is doing or where the money is going. I will help that way more in the future since I have the faith in Sri Lankan working and living abroad. Most educated and qualified expatriates have never stolen money from Sri Lankan people.

When you say 100% of money goes to charity, I honestly believe that it will happen from your end in UK. We were that way too and Sri Lankans in our group contributed heavily from their savings.

One of our project's caretaker was a retired Major and I was always suspicious about his actions and later they turned out to be true.
It doesn't mean they all are bad, there are bad apples everywhere.

I write this never to discourage people from donating money. I personally believe if we never expose our issues, we will never fix them. We have lot more room to improve as a nation and wish you best of luck in your efforts.

[Dear Patriots

What do you think?]

I have several comments:

1. Yes, I had in the past tried to contribute to the Rana Viru Fund through the Defence.lk website, and the transaction failed at precisely the point that you mention. They assume the contributors are in Sri Lanka! Really amazing!

2. Today, I talked with Mrs. Anjalika Silva, listed as a reference at the ranavirufund.blogsite.com about whether this fund is a bona-fide' operation. She sounded very much a Sinhalese. She confirmed her close connection with the RanaViruFund and knew Dhammika Siripala. She said she has arranged for the Washington, DC Sri Lanka Embassy website to provide referential links for these kinds of fund raising operations. Here is her info: USA: Anjalika Silva (Tel: +1 301 793 6826, em:anjalikas@aol.com)

3. I plan to contact the Washington, DC Embassy itself and further confirm this information. I will also contact Ananda Wickremasinghe, the Sri Lanka Consular Officer in LA who collected donations of Lotrimin powder for the troops (still is doing that, FYI) However, for the everything is checking out. I still think, a link at Defence.lk as I had suggested earlier, is the best way for instilling confidence quickly.

4. You raised an important point. No one seems to be doing the fund raising for the troops in a systematic, businesslike way, taking advantage of the tax-benefits for charities offered by the US, and does not seem to have the appropriate online payment gateways installed for seamless operation. Truly amazing, to say the least!

5. I can help. My company has secure web servers, and payment gateways already installed. I am willing to donate the use of these, and a part of my time to manage the operation, free of charge. I can open a separate bank account here for this purpose, to keep the finances totally separate from my business. I can incorporate a charitable nonprofit corporation within a week. As an incorporated company owner, and as the former Chairman of the Board of an incorporated local Sri Lankan Buddhist temple, I have attended to such matters in the past. I can create a volunteer Board of Trustees, and a supporting volunteer work force, using the services of other, very well respected, members of two Sri Lankan Buddhist temples in the San Francisco Bay area. I can also invite others such as Ananda Wickremasinghe, LA Consular officer, and Mrs. Angelika Silva, and others to become Trustees at large.

Of course, I will have to reveal who I am, but that is not a problem, because I have not said anything at this blog that is indecent or untrue.

I don't want to duplicate anything that already exists, or waste my valuable time and effort.
Therefore, the question is, would this be useful, and would you Patriots support it with funds, if 100% of the funds (excepting transaction and banking fees) will go to the intended SLDF charities?

Rana,

The reason that I support Sangaree is that I am looking forward to the time when the LTTE will be defeated, instead of merely focusing on the present. The way that the Tamils look at the govt. and the Sinhalese will determine whether Sri Lanka will move forward after the defeat of the LTTE. There will be a vacuum within the Tamils after the LTTE is beaten and it is still unclear how it will be filled.

We can either move forward as a pluralistic society into the 21st century with the rest of Asia, or we can remain mired in internal strife/violence because we are led by dumbasses (who have other dumbasses as advisors).

It's one thing to criticize Sangaree's specific ideas (like Indian-style federalism or N-E merger) but it's another thing for a Sinhala dumbass to spout rubbish against a Tamil who has stood up against the LTTE even when all others have abandoned him. This unfathomable Tamil-phobia (which I call "Mushe-mentality") is a very important reason why this war has dragged on so long- inability to get Tamil allies.

"In any country service personal can make genuine mistake or abuse power officialy given to them."

There is one correction that I would make- the US and its western allies have most certainly made terrible mistakes in fighting wars and terrorism, from Vietnam all the way to Iraq and Afghanistan- the US lost the Vietnam war to a 3rd-world country because it alienated the Vietnamese people.

US military officers have acknowledged these mistakes and believe that they could have made a huge difference simply by apologizing for them in the middle of the war, as opposed to ignoring these mistakes and pretending that they never occurred.

"Mate, please tell me how SLDF should stop a ruthless terroris roaming in Colombo city with civilian cloths disguised as an innocent tamil, looking for an opportunity to kill our president or army commander?"

Answer: develop a strong level of credibility with the community which the terrorists hide among (ie Tamil community), and then recruit Tamil-speaking sleuths to track down the terras. You won't be able to find the terras if the police have Mushe-mentality.

In the late 1990s there were two police detectives, Nilabdeen and Jeyaratnam, who had nabbed many LTTE terrorists in Colombo and saved many lives. Unlike their Sinhala counterparts, they could interact with the Colombo Tamils and get information without resorting to useless cordon-and-search operations targeting the entire Tamil community.

Nilabdeen had been seriously injured by a LTTE suicide bomber, and no one came to visit him in the hospital. Jeyaratnam eventually tried to leave SL because the LTTE was after him, but he got no support from the govt. Finally the LTTE captured Jeyaratnam and probably got all police info from him through torture.

Nilabdeen vs Kauseelan

It was only a few months before the interdiction, that the government promoted CI Nilabdeen and gave Nilabdeen and SI Jeyaratnam a reward for the discovery of a large cache of ammunition and explosives from terrorist suspects. If not for this discovery hundreds would have lost their lives and the loss of property would be around millions of rupees. It was an accepted fact that these two officers and ASP Wakishata were the top most sleuths attached to the police who would by just talking to a Tamil know whether he was a terrorist or not.

LTTE investigators become UNP suspects

Kotakadeniya: "You can have a thousand policemen, You can have ten thousand soldiers to fight a war; but you cannot find more than a few handful of officers who are good at investigating the LTTE. It is a fact that we have only one or two officers who by their vast experience mastered the finer art of interrogating LTTE suspects. Every one in the Department will agree that the best person amongst them is Chief Inspector Nilabdeen. During one of our operations we arrested one "Muhunthan". As usual he said that he has come to Colombo to go abroad. He had applied for a passport. We even recovered his application from the Department. After interrogation most of the persons arrested were released. "Muhunthan" was first interrogated by S.I. Jeyaratnam, and then by Nilabdeen," DIG Kotakadeniya said "This officer has a knack of getting around hard-core terrorists. It is naive to believe that by the use of third degree methods hard-core terrorists would relent and regurgitate their plans to the police. They have taken a vow of loyalty to Prabhakaran and to the cause of Eelam, only immense interrogating skill, procured by vast experience will help get them to confess," another senior police officer said.

Police investigator missing

"Ananda sangaree is a humanist after all, so he cannot do bad things to us with hate. However, Devananda is different, he can turn 180 degrees backwards, if the time is correct for him."

Dumbasses like Saman and Mushe criticize Sangaree for being the president of TULF, which had advocated separatism in the 1970s. These dumbass hypocrites then fall silent regarding Karuna, who had ordered the killing of 600 unarmed policemen in 1990.

They are also deafeningly silent about the presence of Sinhala racists like the JHU in our present Cabinet, or the fact that scumbags like Ven. Elle Gunawamsa who had helped spark the 1983 riots are still respected by Sinhala politicians today.

wijayapala said...

Rana, didn't see your last comment,

"However, it is not up to us, tamil people should decide who is the best. Either Deva or Sangaree will do the job but I am sure tamil commoners will select Sangaree as their leader opposed to Devananda."

I agree, but Sangaree is old and to my knowledge does not have a successor. TULF is in shambles being split into the anti-LTTE Sangaree faction and pro-LTTE Sampanthan faction. So it remains to be seen whether the Tamils will get leadership who can work with the Sinhalese, or thugs who will continue the conflict.

"Ranil WIJAYAPALA-Daily News

The fall of Kilinochchi is imminent within the next 48 hours as Security Forces have already entered the Kilinochchi town from the South, West and North of Kilinochchi, Army Commander Lt. General Sarath Fonseka told the Daily News yesterday.

The Security Forces engaged in the Vanni liberation operations speeded up their advance towards the de-facto Tiger capital Kilinochchi from all fronts from the South, West and North after Task Force -I troops completely captured and consolidated their positions in strategically important Paranthan junction by yesterday morning.

He said the Task Force I or the 58 Division under the command Brigadier Shavendra Silva immediately after consolidating their position in Paranthan started their advance towards Kilinochchi from the East and West of Kilinochchi

“The Task Force I troops are operating just one kilometres short of Kilinochchi railway station”, the Army Commander added.

Troops attached to 10 Gajaba Regiment under the Command of Major Udaowita and 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry battalion under the command of Lt. Colonel Kithsiri Ekanayake are advancing towards Kilinochchi from the East of A -9 road whilst troops attached to 12 Gajaba Regiment under the command of Major Saliya Amunugama and 6 Gemunu Watch battalion under the command of Lt. Colonel Kamal Pinnawala are advancing towards Kilinochchi town from the West of A-9 road.

Meanwhile, troops attached to 57 Division also advanced towards the heart of Kilinochchi from the South and West directions.

The 574 Brigade under the command of Lt. Colonel Senaka Wijesuriya fully captured the strategically important Iranamadu junction in the South of Kilinochchi opening another gateway to Kilinochchi. “They have advanced beyond the Iranamadu junction and are fast advancing towards the heart of Kilinochchi”, the Army Commander added.

As troops advancing towards Kilinochchi from all fronts, troops observed the way LTTE cadres are fleeing from the area loading their stuff in vehicles.

The 572 Brigade under the command of Colonel Dhammika Jayasundera and 571 Brigade under the command of Lt. Colonel Harendra Ranasinghe are advancing towards the centre of Kilinochchi from the West and South West direction and are operating closer to the A-9 road

“There are signs that the LTTE will flee from Kilinochchi as troops advance towards the heart of Kilinochchi.

But troops will have to engage in fierce battles in areas such as Ramanathanpuram in the east of Kilinochchi”, the Army Commander added.

As of yesterday they have completed more than 60 per cent of their Kilincochchi mission giving early signs of fall of Kilinochchi within a days period as the troops are aggressively advancing towards the heart of Kilinochchi in all fronts without leaving any room for the LTTE to operate there. The only option now available for the LTTE is to flee towards the jungle patches in Puthukuduiruppu and Vishvamadu in the East of Iranamadu tank but will be once again cornered in this jungle terrain as 59 Division troops are advancing towards Puthukuduiruppu from the West of Mullaitivu after their consolidated their positions in the Mulliyawali village.

Fierce battles erupted in the West of Mulliyavali as troops closed in on to the Tiger airstrip there. "

Wijayapala,
Can you speak, read or write tamil? How about "old tamil". Have you actually read anything original.

Have you been to any secret meetings with Anandasangaree? Isn't he the guy who should be watching "No country for old men"?

A good, violent video to let your hair down after a hard days work. I would recommend it for you as well.

Why can't you leave Moshe alone. Were you one of those school boys who would come up smiling for more after each beating?

BTW,

All questions except for the first one are rhetorical. Seriously!

Hence it is claimed in some quarters that Sri Lanka is attempting a military solution to the conflict and therefore the LTTE will survive the on-going military onslaught and continue to function as a guerrilla outfit. The argument that the government will have to talk to the LTTE at some point is also based on this illogical reasoning."

Wijayapala,

Brother, Thanks for your reply, your thoughts are not far away from mine. However, good police work and tactful investigations take lot of time and labour which we don't have in SL.

Some tamil people may become informers if they were treated fairly by sinhalese and service personals. In the same time other hardcore LTTE supporters will exploite that to the detriment of law and order.

I don't like applying any pressure or harresment to innocent tamil civilians but LTTE does everything in their power to make sinhalese and service personal go against tamils.

That is the way they got mass support from 1983.

Any way WIJAYAPALA!

EP and muha and kilali are easy picking now that most of the big guns situated east of paranthan have been moved. also rear of this sector is not just exposed but controlled by troops!

i thought that after the fall of kili, the next would be ep, but after ir'madu junction captured equation changed...

If someone decides to devalue his or her life, there is no way anyone can stop that person.

A person with average mentality will use 'white van' technique. A visionary will make sure there will not be desperation in a nation.

I understand, at this stage a war or upper hand is necessary to stop LTTE. However we can never kill out way out of solving all the problems. Today LTTE, tomorrow??

"A visionary will make sure there will not be desperation in a nation."

You are dreaming about an ideal world. The reality today is far from you stated ideal condition. Disparity and desperation will be there regardless of the outcome. What you are talking about is very much similar to text book communism, which is failed social experiment today.

It is shear lunacy if somebody expect to have ideal conditions after reestablishing full territorial control of Sri Lanka. However, once we remove the main obstacle we have against development of the nation, i.e. LTTE terrorism, things will take an up turn. Still the concept of Tamil Eelam may simmer in some class of Tamil people for years to come. Perhaps it will take a few decades to restore normalcy. Until then, we will have to maintain our forces at the current strength or better with ongoing training. A major part of the military side will be to recruit and promote a representative share of Tamil Sri Lankans loyal to the common Sri Lankan identity in our military.

Respecting the intent of DefenceWire, I stop here without getting too carried away in to politics. What you have here mostly are defence enthusiasts.I suggest you to look for a place like Lanka Academic as a more suitable place to initiate a political discussion.

Wijayapala,

my thoughts on your response to rana.

/I agree, but Sangaree is old and to my knowledge does not have a successor. TULF is in shambles being split into the anti-LTTE Sangaree faction and pro-LTTE Sampanthan faction. So it remains to be seen whether the Tamils will get leadership who can work with the Sinhalese, or thugs who will continue the conflict./

After many disagreements I agree with you here. This is a sad reality for Tamils. I mentioned this in my previous dialogue with Rana/Moshe but wish to reiterate. Every tyranny and opposing political movements exited around the world, which used “murder” as a political tool, has created a political vacuum in their demise and destruction on their path. Created a generation who trust “force” than “reason” for an answer. Unfortunately, many of us here are the assumed characters of that madness. Such periods gave so much hurt and hopelessness to the very people who wanted justice.

In my view Anandasangaree is too good a person (not in his political leadership though) and now old in providing that leadership. Two people come to my mind are Jeyaraj P and Laxman K to take charge of what is needed by our Tamil brothers and sisters. Unfortunately they were taken out for doing what they believed right. I do not trust DD. But he is, in my little knowledge about Tamil politics today, at least have will to make LTTE's thought process history.

My sincere hope is (I may raise few eye brows here by saying this) for LTTE’s next generation to lay down arms, fully reform and join hands with all progressive political parties of the country to make our people righteous and prosperous.

This tiny island has enough space and goodness for all our people to do well. Please feel free to educate me of an emerging young Tamil leader who one day can become “Obama” of Sri Lanka. I will die in peace if I can see that.

If we need white vans to achieve this – although it is bad – I would put my vote to do that with the sincere hope that vote will not be abbused.

Obage dukath mage duka lesa vatahewa
Obge sathuta ma hata sathutak vewa
Yum dina ea-van ugayak lak bima weva

Let ma translate if you are not Sinhalese.

May your suffering is felt as my own

URGET ATTENTION REQUIRED!

looks like some sakkili barbarians had tried to get chemical weapons from pushchino in russia to vanni directly on board either an an-12 or a y-9 plane.

1. look at what pushchino, a very small town, is famous for.

look in the last paragraph in the "history" section

2. look where they were planning to travel.

from p to k!

some sakkiliya had used this to calculate the time it takes to travel the distance from there to kili with the average speed of 800 km/h. it was calculated to be 7 hours which means the distance is roughly 5,635 km.

an-12 or y-9 can do it. but.....

3. remember LTTE expanded it's runway last year to accomodate larger planes?

4. put 1, 2 & 4 together.

5. it is not about running away, but bringing in!

Moshe,
It could have been for both reasons. Bringing Chemical weapons in and to take the top Brass out, leaving the poor lower cadres to take the brunt and to use chemical weapons. Once they use chemical weapons they would not want to be in a position of being caught.

Hopefully, it had not already happened before AF bombed the runways. It may be time for Ranaviru to rush some more protection for the soldiers in the front.

There is sheer PANDIMONIUM I am told …

All kinds of accusations are evidently flying back and forth I am told…around the reasons for the imminent fall of Sakkilinocchi…

Most are evidently pissed off at the colossal sum of money they have coughed out for this “freedom struggle” that now appears to be going up in a puff of smoke…many have coughed up money even at the expense of not paying off their mortgages (or assuming ones when they were paid up) or not saving enough for their kids higher education etc. etc…and the feeling is extremely bitter I am told….

OaO Asithri

MayilRavana මයිල් රාවන said...

It looks like it is OK to talk about Kilali lagoon being more or less secured now.

The only options left for LTTE now would be to counter attack from either the jungle in Mullaitivu or from Chundikulam forests. Hopefully the forces have it all in hand.

But the issue of Chemical weapons still remains a worry. If they use them we have to be prepared to go all out in World wide routing of Diasporic Tigers.

If you want to see a splendid example of an officer leading the troops from front, take a peek at the video reporting of Saman Kumara Ramawikrama from Paranthan. Moshe,

What a coincident. I wrote my dream without seeing your post on transporting CVs. And Myils assersion, that the other possibility of the calculation may mean to transport VezaPulle out of Ealam.

I thought Muliaweli is already under SLA where the long Airstrip is constructed.

I am concerned that,

1. when SLA reach Killi and Mullaithiwe townships whether LTTE would utilise the water supply pipe network (assuming those townships got pipe water) to bring poison gass closer to troups.

OR

2. Use the same method to gas the IDPs just before troups advances and blame on SLA and use LTTE checkrole INGO's to bark at the wrong tree.

Asithri said...

[it is not about running away, but bringing in!]

Yes, at least one runway was expanded to allow transport planes to land and MOD is well aware of it. Evidently, “some” of our “friendly countries” in the region have been alerted too I am told…

As for the “vamooshing act” (the “great abandonment”) by the LTTE honcho MFs, well, that was always planned for via smaller (tree-top skimming) planes and even then the number was believed to be just one or two at the maximum as only the very top layer (and their families) was going to flee (leaving the rest to the mercy of SLDF!)

Moshe,

I give below the Wikipedia.org description of Pushchino's research facilities.

I don't think this is a military research establishment, focusing on Chemical or Biological weapons, although some military research could be done here. Also, if it is a weapon at all, judging from concentration on the Biosciences, the likelihood is that it is a Biological weapon, rather than a Chemical weapon.

This city is well within Russia; not in a former Soviet satellite country. Therefore, officially, these weapons are very carefully controlled. However, as we all know, with the economic difficulties and the rise of the Russian Mafia, anything is possible.

Although unlikely, transport out of Russia in a large Russian-made jet or turbo-fan plane, is possible. Given the situation in Sri Lanka, I think the use of a small sea-plane capable of landing in a Lagoon or reservoir/lake, and making the trip in several (say, 3) segments is much more likely, especially as it allows the plane to make undetected stops along the way on remote bodies of water.

Pushchino, Russia from Wikepedia.org

[Pushchino (Russian: Пу́щино) is a town in Moscow Oblast, Russia, situated 120 km south of Moscow, on the right side of the Oka River. As it can be confused with other towns with similar names, it is informally called Pushchino-at-Oka. Population: 19,964 (2002 Census).
