53 and 58 to meet-up as LTTE ban comes into effect

The Sri Lanka Armed Forces have been told that the LTTE will be banned, according to a decision made at today's Cabinet Meeting. Exact details will be made available later.

Meanwhile the 58 and 53 Divisions are expected to meet up shortly as Pallai starts being vacated by the LTTE. Only a weak frontline remains at Palai presently, which will be overcome shortly. The 55 Division also marched south at Nagarkovil without any resistance. LTTE seems to have vacated these areas via the sea.

The Army is also expecting a large exodus of civilians, over 100,000 to start moving out of Puthukudiirippu- Vishwamadu areas. They expect to take charge of these civilians at Kilinochchi. The idea is to channel them to safety along the A-34.

This was a mail conversation I got, and I think this is quite possible to happen..!

The Mtv/ Mbc attack was orchestrated by them selves. They had already moved all important equipment to the there new studio complex at Ratmalana (old S-Lon factory) so that the Depanama complex can be given/ rented out to Airtel. All this was done to descredit the government and to take away focus from the victorious armed forces and most of all to upgrade their equipment with the US $ 6,000,000 insurance claim (as they did before). Even after a petrol bomb was thrown at the studios 3 days ago, why did they have only 2 security guards on duty??????? WHY????

If they have actually moved to a new place, then it’s a best way to get the insurance!
And may be... may be LTTE have started to play their hidden cards ?

I downloaded the fairly large video (14MB) of the SLAF attack on two Sea Tiger boats Chundikkulam lagoon from defence.lk site. But it was fully worth it. Amazing how the shells started cooking in one of the boats after the hit. Some of the secondary explosions almost were comming up to the attack jet. What a beautiful sight.

Cheers!

/It also said that 30 SLA got killed with him./

Its really sad to hear this. 53 and 55 are said to be army's 'elite' divisions. They couldn't advance more than 2km while other divisions came all the way from Vavunia and Mannar to EPS. Well, we said 53/55 didn't advance due to the terrain that and to avoid unnecessary casualties. But we heard such casualties in the same front earlier too. Now they don't have any pressure to advance so why they can't avoid such casualties. In fact I hope now 53/55 could advance with zero casualties. I am surprised and worried if they were careless.

If all the newly formed MID and AMB also under 53, then I guess those two sections played no role in this war.

I may be sound blaming but I am not.

Although a heavy hand from govt side is possible, it is not likely that military top brass together with MR and GR planned it. I think some goon may have done it. LW was not only against SLDF, but also he was writing against every official of the govt, some were originally corrupted. Also he was a notorious blackmailer. When you black mail some big ppl or lock horns with dirty politicians, I've heard that they hire thugs to kill you.

There are other ways to take journalists down.

These other ways are not realistic in SL. But I didn't mean killing is a right or realistic way.

We're a mistaken democracy. We're yet to realize the pragmatic ground truth of a system which was enforced by British 80 years ago. Note that British devised today's democracy for ~800 years and they feel the meaning of it. We're just mistaken.

In that pretext some media [like news first] who mildly carry on some subtle pro-terror activity never gets screened, but some channels [like hiru] who jumped the gun too ealy got banned.

Let me give you few examples. And tell me how we can avoid these subtle get-aways.

Whenever a civilian death has happened in a military region or by likely military act News First report contains a hint for listener to suspect SLDF. But when pussycats kill some villagers, it always goes like "Some villagers have been found dead in xxxx village", leaving it purely gray. This works in many shaky minds in SL, especially some who oppose MR. Some sinhala UNP [but anti-tiger] ppl have argued with me that some of these villagers were actually killed by SLDF as proof for the need of war. If a peelamist like peter says this they won't believe. But News First's subtle bias is hardly found and the idea gently gets registered.

News First reports pussycat side of the story as if they genuinely report it [w/o quoting]. Or they quote Reuters but in reality it was Reuters quoting tamilnet. They tactically drop teh tamil net part. Ppl believe Reuters, so that is the trick. But until recent times every SLDF side went as "MCNS reported that ...". Why? Since their audience are likely to take MCNS as a goon agency by MR, hence suspect the news.

LW was a similar low life. Someone in this space posted a URL stating that SLDF will never be able to liberate Kili just the week before they actually did. Note that this type of mis-information is dangerous as the reporter is not identified as enemy.

But Hiru reported that there were suspected terrorists in Ranminithenna. In the end there were tigers hiding in Ranminithenna village, but the channel which reported it some time before got banned as the suspected tigers couldn't be found by then.

Now tell me how the govt can bring rules to stop the above mentioned events. Only thing we can do is to conduct a full investigation to see whether there have been any link between them and pussycats. But for that case there may not be any link, as the individuals ARE genuinely supporting pussycats, not that they are commanded by wanni.

I just wrote this long to show you why media can not be blocked from such acts by "other means". However killing or burning is not the way as that scores more points to enemy.

One is to expose these subtle events to public and make them suspect the aganda. LW gained public distrust and disgust. And that is why I am against killing him. Tomorrow another traitor will take his seat but will take another few years to be recognized. But I DO NOT mourn his death, take me for a savage if you like.

We need counter propaganda, but see the mess the govt media do. Being a die hard supporter of war against terror, even I feel offended when I watch their cheap propaganda and biased nonsense [like Pasubuima]. I only like the Rama report in rupavahini. You're right that we miss the opportunity in counter propaganda.

[so it is BETTER if there is no strong opposition in SL.]

Well, why is it that many countries have strong patriotic oppositions (e.g., US post 9/11 attack, UK during WW-II) that bury their differences during war time, and rally around whatever government is in power, but Sri Lanka does not seem to be able to rise to that?

This really puzzles and saddens me. Even when the country is in mortal danger, some people are concentrating on rearranging the chairs on the deck of the Titanic.

I hope and pray, that the second beneficial result of this 30-year long lesson in survival is the realization by the ordinary people of Sri Lanka, as to what constitutes patriotic behavior, and the crystallization of a collective will to marginalize the anti-national leaders and organizations, forever.

After all, if these anti-national leaders have so much difficulty in coming together with the government at this time, perhaps in a unity government, they never will; and the country would be better off without them.

IT IS NOT THE SURVIVAL OF THE LEADERS THAT IS AT STAKE HERE; IT IS THE SURVIVAL OF THE PEOPLE WHO CONSTITUTE THE NATION!

I remember once Wikramabahu said how difficult it was to paste few anti-government posters which were supporting self determination in early 80s under JRJ. They had to do it in a top secret mission. He said this in late early 2000s and he praised the freedom he had at that time for his pro-LTTE campaign. Until now such freedom for pro-LTTE propaganda growth exponentially with siarasa and leader. Guys,

This is no relevance to the war effort, but is very interesting. This is like the Enron fraud, and Bernard Madoff's $50 Billion Ponzi scheme. Ramalinga Raju, CEO of Satyam, the #1 Indian IT services company with over $1.5 Billion in assets resigned declaring 94% of company assets are fictitious!

Looks like the corporate fraud disease is spreading to India as well!

LTTE kills Lt. Col. Nalinda Kumarasinghe in Jaffna
The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) currently withdrawing from the Jaffna peninsula delivered a big blow to the army on Thursday Jan 8th as a high – ranking army officer was killed.

Lt. Col Nalinda Kumarasinghe RWP, RSP was killed in a booby trap explosion in the Puloppalai area of the peninsula.

Lt. Col Kumarasinghe was the commanding officer of 5 Gemunu watch which is attached to the Air Mobile brigade that is a component of the 53 division

Lt. Col Kumarasinghe was moving along with his troops from Pallai in a south eastern direction.

The carefully booby trap exploded as the jeep they were travelling in went over it near a turning point on a dirt track.

The signals officer in the vehicle was also killed.

Two others were injured.

Altogether the army has lost twelve men in the past four days in the peninsula.

Around 55 men were injured.

The bulk of those killed and injured was due to landmines, pressure mines, anti – personnel mines and booby traps.

Lt. Col Kumarasinghe was an excellent commanding officer and had excelled in recent fighting by inspiring and leading troops

He was the highest – ranking officer to be killed by the LTTE in the northern fighting

He was elevated posthumously to Col rank

New trends on war quite questionable… (Especially after 19/12/2008)
With our sources and view point of my colleagues.
Its looks like.
Gota And Mahinda had some sort of agreement with sosai and top LTTE leaders to withdraw carders from their FDL. This agreement includes parliamentary representation for some of top level carders. Also safe escape to about 1000 low level carders to some African country. In return they will help capturing the big man. Also my other sources inform me that’s sosai is planning to double cross the ‘Sahodara Co’.

Does anyone know more facts about this build up? Or is it just not true?
Although my sources are reliable, I’d like to get more information. This is too bad to be true. I certainly don’t need another Karuna, Pillayan from North.
My opinion is we need to eliminate as much as cadres we can importantly the senior and more battle hardened carders.
But it’s look like more senior carders escaping and newly trained less experience carders dying in their FDLs.

If we didn’t kill most of senior hardcore LTTE fighters,
1 After the war we got load uneducated heavily trained men looking for jobs.
2 What if they escaped to some other country? Then there would be no end to this war.
3 Will it be a wise idea to let battle harden people like Karuna, Pillayan to represent Tamil people? In a long run?

India is having some "terrorist" problems & need some pointers from us on how to solve them "peacefully" through "negotiations".

From ExpressBuzz.com

ARTICLE #1:
[Army calls off Poonch operation after eight days
IANS 09 Jan 2009

JAMMU: The army late Thursday night called off its operation to flush out militants hiding in a dense forest area in the frontier Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir after eight days "due to tactical reasons".

A source in the army said there was a possibility of the terrorists having slipped away from the Mendhar forest area taking advantage of the rugged terrain and bad weather.

The source said no exchange of fire had taken place with the hiding terrorists Thursday though troops had been on alert.

The troops had busted three hideouts and all they found was edible oil, dal, rice and gas cylinders. "All the caves where the militants were hiding had two openings," the source said.

The operation in Poonch had started Jan 1 when terrorists killed two army men - a junior commissioned officer and a soldier - while they were laying a cordon.

The militants had taken away the rifle of the JCO, whose body was found two days later.]

ARTICLE #2:
[15 Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh gun battle
IANS 08 Jan 2009

RAIPUR: At least 15 Maoists were killed in a gun battle with the police late Thursday in a forested hamlet in Chhattisgarh's restive Bastar region, an official said here.

Armed cadres of the banned Leftist insurgent outfit, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), were killed in the gun battle with police forces in Gollapalli, in Dantewada district, some 450 km south of capital Raipur.

Pawan Deo, deputy inspector general, special intelligence branch (SIB), here said the gunfight broke out when a search team of the state police and special police officers opened fire on dozens of insurgents armed with AK-47 and grenades.]

Total annihilation of LTTPussies dont mean we have to eliminated all cadres when we know most of them are forced recruits. But I agree letting them escape this easy is questionable.
but lets not loose our heads and say president has struck a deal to let them escape.

Patriots!

A MUST READ article.

Indians want to follow Sri Lanka's footsteps to solve their terrorist problems!

Maybe we have turned the corner with Indian perception of our struggle for survival!

As I have always said, it is only a case of "whose Ox is being gored" at any given time!

Go, Lanka!

[Pleading the Indian case

Rajiv Dogra 08 Jan 2009

In a matter like tackling terror there is no need for us to reinvent the wheel.

To save lives and to gain precious time it is wise to benefit from the experience of others. But if the intention is to ape them blindly, then you run the risk of being taken for a ride. For the last one month India has been led blindfold on just such a merry-go-round.

We faltered at the very beginning. What was the need for us to call the butchery in Mumbai our 26/11? If we wanted to imitate the USA then we should have gone the entire distance by following it up with a massive attack on the land of the perpetrators, as the Americans did in the case of Afghanistan.

But we merely threatened. Later we withdrew even those threats.

What was the need of issuing those threats if we were not serious about following up on them? After such a humiliating climbdown will we in future be taken seriously by those whom we had intended to deter? Moreover, was there any need for us to go half way across the world in search of guidance on responding to terror? If a lead was needed, there was the example of a neighbour closer home.

We had tried to persuade Sri Lanka to ease off its military campaign against the LTTE, and to be mindful of the civilian casualties.

Sri Lanka’s response was polite but firmly dismissive. It said it had a job to complete and it was determined to do it fast.

According to all information available it is well on its way there. Sri Lanka confronted its problems itself, with hardly any regard to external opinion. It didn’t go globetrotting to the chancelleries of the world to seek their support for its actions.

The circumstances may be entirely different, but nearly the same has been the case with Israel. When it decided that enough was enough it began to punish Gaza militarily.

It may have had quiet consultations with the USA prior to its attacks. But it didn’t engage in ponderous indecision nor did it submit, like a supplicant, voluminous folders detailing evidence against the other side.

It launched air attacks and sent its foreign minister to the Western capitals to inform them of its decision, and to tell them of the other side’s misdemeanours that led to it.

But we seek the approving nod at every turn. That’s why the home minister is flying to Washington with a folder prepared with the bureaucratic penchant for detail. Usually such elaborate folders are received politely by governments. Dignitaries with a serious face make indignant statements on the need for global action against the menace of terrorism.

But that is where all action terminates.

The folder itself ends up in some junior official’s cupboard, never to be seen again.

That this should be so is bad enough, but the problem is compounded further. It so happens that just before the home minister’s visit to USA, a US official dealing with the region is being feted in Islamabad.

It seems that Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari personally conferred one of the highest state awards, the Hilal-i-Quaid-i- Azam on visiting US assistant secretary of state Richard Boucher. That the President of Pakistan should be conferring a high decoration on an official whose equivalence in our system would be that with a joint secretary is not without significance. That the official should accept the award from a state directly linked to the Mumbai terror attack, which resulted in the death of six US nationals, is an issue that his government would have no doubt considered.

But what should definitely concern, and even alarm us, is the fact that high state awards are never distributed randomly.

Every visiting official is not given these honours, not even by tin-pot dictatorships.

There is a purpose to each such decision.

The track record is examined and the future potential taken into account.

A bitter truth of international realpolitik is that not all countries are like India, where every award to a foreign national must pass the test of absolute probity. While we should be proud of our record and our tradition we should also be wary, because the others are not strait-jacketed by moral compunctions.

Pakistan is definitely street-smart, and it is advantage-driven in its dealings with foreigners.

It is also reasonable to assume that any normal person would feel elated when conferred an honour at a glittering function.

That the recipient should develop an attachment towards that country is only human, because detachment is in the realm of Gods.

It is therefore entirely human of Richard Boucher to have made the following remarks attributed to him by Dawn at the investiture: “Boucher thanked the President for the honour and said he would continue his services for US-Pak relations.” He added, “The two sides need to exchange information. India and Pakistan need to work together…” In a remarkable coincidence a Chinese official was visiting India exactly at the same time. Vice foreign minister He Yafei said at the conclusion of his meetings in Delhi, “My visit here is to encourage both sides to find a way out through dialogue and consultations.” So what should we make of this stunning similarity in the advice given by two officials; one from the so-called friend and the other from a country which secretly rejoices at every Indian discomfiture? A month and a half after the Mumbai terror attacks, we find ourselves bracketed with the perpetrator of attacks. Sadly, we have been hyphenated all over again with Pakistan. This has wiped out in one stroke all the gains of patient diplomacy that, over the last few years, succeeded in taking us out of the hyphenation with Pakistan.

Even worse is the fact that by receiving Yafei we have, for the first time, accepted a role by China in an issue concerning India and Pakistan.

All this brings us back to the visit of the home minister to Washington. The timing is ill-advised because the Bush administration would be busy partying itself out of the White House. Any promises made by it would be just words in thin air. The incoming administration would be concentrating on the splendour of swearing-in. In that heady swirl, whatever it recalls from the folder Chidambaram leaves behind would be overwhelmed by the propaganda Zardari proposes to unleash when he reaches Washington on January 20.

Meanwhile for the terrorists and their masters it is business as usual. They have engaged 1,500 Indian troops in a ferocious battle in Rajouri. Who knows how many more Pakistanis have been positioned in the Indian territory awaiting instructions from Islamabad to unleash terror? Unfortunately for us, Pakistan seems to have its game plan ready for every contingency; we treat every attack as a fresh file.

Our response takes time to evolve. Post- Mumbai, Pakistan has stone-walled us with ease, successfully. It has virtually been running circles around us.

It isn’t that we couldn’t have out guessed them, or pinned them down. Our diplomats have sufficient professional expertise. But diplomats do not make policies; they merely implement in the best possible fashion the directions given to them by their political masters, even if it means welcoming the Chinese meddler

I wonder if this is a result of not clearing areas which were marked on map as "Under influence" a few weeks ago.
As soon as they captured A34 from Mankulam oddusuddan those "under influence" areas all of a sudden became cleared areas. But we didnt hear any news of clearing operations. Who knows if there are more of them trapped in there causing trouble now.

any significance of (main) roads becoming demarcations between SLA and LTTE????

something tells me, there must be. apart from all the nonsense balukumaran had to say about A9 & A32. one issue is that 57 will have to depend on natural or self-demarcated boundaries when it advances further eastward. 58 seems to have natural and road demarcations.

57 is approaching vadakachchi. A thangachchi tells me there are waterfalls there (i don’t believe) and marvels about all the fruit she had there (her eyes look like her tits). But she’s adamant there should be a BIG lake/river there.

BTW the puzzle about “stepped defence lines” in K-M-N (in that order) is now resolved. N has higher LTTE concentration due to sea routes and K lowest bcos of 58. now it has changed, though.

I am absolutely certain that MR, Gota, SF or any of the top people involved with the war effort have anything directly to do with the assassination of Lasantha. (MR addresses Lasantha as "machan", and MR is not a person to kill someone for for having a different view).

Anyway, the killing is a despicable crime against humanity.

One of three groups could have done this.

1. LTTE terrorists (or a group that needs to unsettle Sri Lanka) - If the terrorists did this, it is to implicate that the government did it, so that they can argue and coerce the IC that Sri Lanka is moving towards anarchy/autocracy.

2. A group of extremists within the GSL - When wars are fought for many years, groups of people can start to work independently as small units to bring down subversive units. These same units can rapidly run riot, even causing difficulties to the very same group that they work for. Unfortunately, GSL has given such units hope of escaping the rule of law by not prosecuting people like Mervyn De Silva. Together with euphoria generated by patriotic rhetoric of GSL, such units have become very powerful. Furthermore, GSL associates extremists like the JHU, as I have been telling all along, have the capability to turn to the very same subversive acts that are perpetrated by the LTTE terrorists. If these units are involved, it would put implicit pressure on the top guys of the GSL. This is why a crime anywhere needs to be considered under the rule of law, and extremists units should be kept as minority parties, without being amalgamated to the moderates such as the PA.

Real democracy can happen only if we change the definition of the role of opposition and act on the new definition. The current definition of the role of opposition seems to be: The opposition party is the government in waiting and therefore the role of the opposition is to grab the power by crook or hook at the earliest possible moment. This is a very destructive definition; destructive for democracy itself.

The definition ought to be: The opposition is elected by the public to act as a watchdog of the government, which was elected by the public itself. Both the government and the opposition are servants of general public. The role of the opposition is to assist and criticise the government policies and work in such a manner that even if the criticism of and assistance to the government keep the opposition away from the political power for many years the opposition need to continue their work in the manner that it will be a genuine and sincere service to the public and not just as power grabbing gimmicks. At the election times the opposition can be aggressive in the policy front to gain power. To gain power or keep power, they should not resort to slanders and falsifications and blackmailing.

The most serious danger to democracy in Sri Lanka is loss of credibility of the opposition. If the opposition acts on principles and the opposition enjoys high credibility then the Government would not be able to enjoy a free hand in suppression of democracy (in the case that they are guilty of the crime) and the conduct of war could have been much easier.

Yes, we live in a dream world, but let us dream. Without dreaming we cannot leave. As Nandamalani sings “Mage Sihinaya Mata Dakkinna Ida Harrinna”. That is “Allow me to see my dream”. If we stop dreaming it is guaranteed that our dreams will never become true.

Until next developmment;

Thanks!

True investigative journalists help reduce corruption in our country. I was involve in a procurement deal not too long ago where there bribes to certain officials exceeded the cost of the goods and shipping. As a result, we either can't buy all the equipment that our forces need or the next generation will have to pay for it in the future. This is the sad truth, and it pisses me off.

I know that Iqbal Athas exposed an attempt by the Navy to buy some old junk from England during CBK's time just because certain officials were getting a cut. Why not take that money and buy what we need to fight the LTTE.

Any way, my point is certain journalists who expose corruption in the armed services actually help the poor soldiers in the battle front. That said, I don't know enough about LW to say whether he actually helped keep officials honest or not.

Switching to Sirasa, if the LTTE could stage such an attack in Colombo, they would surely go for something related to the conflict. But a whining TV station with zero casualties? No way!

THIS IS RELATED TO THE CONFLICT.

AT THE MOMENT THE WORLD MEDIA FOCUS IS ON ISREAL - PALESTINE WAR NOT SRI LANKA. THE LTTE KNOWS THAT INDIA AND OBAMA ARE NOT GOING TO HELP THEM.

BY DOING THESE KIND OF THINGS LTTE WILL GAIN SO MANY THINGS...

(1).THEY CAN SHIFT THE CURRENT MEDIA FOCUS FROM ISREAL TO SRI LANKA.

(2). SRI LANKA WILL GET THE LABEL "THE WORST PLACE FOR JOURNALISTS"

(3). SRI LANKAN RUPEE WILL DEGRADE

(4). IT WILL EFFECT THE GOVERNMENTS WAR EFFORTS SERIOUSLY AND THE DIASPORA WILL TRY TO RESCUE THE LTTE.

(5). LTTE'S FAVOURITE PARTY THE UNP WILL TRY TO TOPPLE THE GOVERNMENT.

There would also be the likelihood that if the tamils refuse to return to Killi area, the earlier displaced muslims who've lived in camps in Mannar can be resettled there and in Jaffna.

[mates, with 57 & 58 advancing eastwards, what OFFENSIVE role will 53 & 55 will have??? ]

I have an idea:

Divs 57 and 58 should shift back into the small unit jungle warfare mode and work on sweeping LTTE cadres from the Northeast, perhaps incorporating the Iranamdu-center of the Mullaitivu-District-Jungle (MDJ) road building project. Div 53 should take over from Div 58 and move along good A-35 road with its armor. Div 55 should move along the narrow East coast road through the Chundikulam Wildlife sanctuary and attempt to clear the East coast of the seaboard parallel to the A-35 route. They will hit the A-35 fortifications towards the sea.

Meanwhile, TF3 should move towards Theravilkulam on A-35, building a road through the MDJ as it goes along.

Div 59 should move along Mullaitivu Lagoon to wards Puthukuduiruppu, and TF4 should sweep in towards the middle of the MDJ building a road from Mulliyawalai towards the center of the MDJ. It will also support the flanks of Div 59 and TF3.

The idea is to have no gaps between the forces while sweeping the MDJ towards A-35, and to arrive along A-35 about the same time, to trap the LTTE in a pocket oriented along A-35, from all sides.

While Div 59 is moving towards Puthukuduiruppu, it should assault A-35 supply route to Mullaitivu with artillery, supplemented by the SLAF.

The Div 53 Air Mobile Brigade could be used to capture the strip of land between the Mullaitivu Lagoon and the sea, but they will have to be careful of getting hit by LTTE cadre from both the South (from Mullaitivu) and the North (from Puthukuduiruppu). The SLA is very risk averse to these kinds of operations, and may instead stick to the broad front sweeping strategy they have successfully deployed so far.

I am very concerned of a counterattack on Div 59 in strength by the LTTE, before Divs 53 and 55 become available from the Jaffna front.

What do you guys think?

Well, well, looky here folks...It seems transcurrents.com "dressed up" today's dailynews defence article and served it to their rather depressed Diaspora to liven things up a bit

http://transcurrents.com/

See the similarities of the transcurrents.com's last two articles with Dailynews?

Here's an example of how transurrents.com "spices up" the articles for the consumption of Diaspora.

In another significant development the 7 Gemunu Watch battalion commanded by Lt. Col Chaminda Lamahewa moved further towards the Nandhi Kadal lagoon area and encircled the historic Amman temple at Vatraappalai.
The LTTE had vacated Vatraappalai without fighting as they did not want the temple damaged.
Given its location vis a vis the Nandhikkadal lagoon it would have been quite conducive for the tigers to entrench defences in and around Vatraappalai.
Instead they pulled back to Keppapulavu

LOL! LOL! LOL!

How gallant of LTTE not to damage the temple!!!!

Pity we didn't see the same graciousness in Murikandy temple et al...LOL!

Moshe Dyan said...

ananda,

sorry, i didn't specify.

but you got it right. the problem arises due to the 'small' size of the area north of A35 where 58 is operating and 53 and 55 will land.

"Div 55 should move along the narrow East coast road through the Chundikulam Wildlife sanctuary and attempt to clear the East coast of the seaboard parallel to the A-35 route. They will hit the A-35 fortifications towards the sea."

i don't think this is practical.

1. this way is unpassable for a large troop and there is no "work" there.

2. 58 can handle this area

the plan not to have gaps in between is important. for this to happen, 55 (if it will be spearheading an offense) should be relocated to somewhere else, unless 58 is relocated.

but since 58 has started its hunt, it is not wise to shake them up.

else 55 will be redundant!!! (not really!!)

another little thing.

1. 57 & 59 MOSTLY had inland exposure.

2. 58, 55 & 53 had a wide sea-front exposure.

questions.

1. does it matter?

2. if so, how will it change their FUTURE deployment?

3. how about the 'good old' 55 joining the 'newbie' 59???

this is like gary kasporof stuff!!!

It is clear that this is a set up by themselves even for a 4 year old girl could understand that.
If you really can't convince that to your self, then please ask some friend of yours who works in MTV/NBC and they will tell you the story. A couple of days ago, I saw an article written by a guy named Arush. His analysis was later followed up in several pro-LTTE media, igniting hope for the LTTE's military campaign. One of the central points of that article was that LTTE hierarchy is allowing the spreading of SLDFs over larger area so that tigers can penetrate through a few weak points in the Army defenses. Unfortunately for the cats, this is highly unlikely to happen. Several reasons for this:

1. Unlike the previous Eelam wars, our battle planners are putting a lot of effort on "defense in depth".

2. The above has been facilitated by force multiplying effects of the SF units, MBRL-ARti units and the armor units (all of which that LTTE lack - LTTE has SF units are not directly compared to our men).

3. LRRP units working in deep-enemy space (these units are now in the Mullativu jungles!). These does not allow the tigers to concentrate cadres for a major assault against us (SLAF, MBRL attacks can be called in by these units as well).

4. Two of the most coveted armored units have not been unleashed as yet (Because of their high mobility and firepower, these units can effectively be used to cover a large open area); and also they can be used to breach the Tiger FDL by using techniques like attacking on a center of gravity. These units can also be made to do "thunder runs" into and out of the Northern Mullativu area, unsettling the cats greatly.

5. Influx of newly trained divisions for both defensive and offensive roles.

6. force multiplier effect of the Navy and SLAF units.

7. Shrinking of the tiger FDL. This gives us a smaller effective area to concentrate on.

Hope Arush (and other tiger supporters see this) and comment.

I agree with Rebel. While I am a big proponent of media rights, and those of the minorities, we need to look at the big picture - terra problem in SL. We need to deal with our single biggest problem first and hopefully the rest will fall into place later.

No other govt in the past had the will and the dedication to take the fight to the LTTE. Finally, Gota and Mahinda are doing that and hats off to them for that. Are they perfect? No, but at least they are doing something while Ranil was stroking Vesapillai while he was in power.

Guys,

What should GoSL do after the fall of EPS (A9 opening). eg. a grand scale celebration similar to Kili event? etc.??

What is your opinion?

duzz said...

NIsal...

will they OPen the A9 for the civis immediatly after fall of eps?

i dont think so..

celebration is a must. that gives people hope. and commemorating the 54th!!

Nisal said...

duzz,

most probably they will bring civilians from Jaffna by bus for the national day celebrations.

CBK and rathwatte had a plan to do so for 50th National day (jayasikuru era). It is interesting to see it goings to happen on 6oth.

I too have noticed the same thing few times. It takes inf from both LTTE and government media, spice them up and rewrite new articles.

Guys,
What should GoSL do after the fall of EPS (A9 opening).

Of course there will be some celebrations in Colombo since we as people of this country should have a chance to salute our forces.

Secondly, now we should not give a slightest chance to the LTTE to get up on their feet. We will have to crush them to the ground and also need to crush their supporters in a diplomatic way like going for a general election and show how much support TNA has got from peace loving tamil community when LTTE is not around to support filling their ballots with the T56 (I am sure they will not even win 5 seats this time).

Start the development of the infrastructure along and centralizing A9 road as soon as possible since LTTE who says the sole representatives of tamils have drove the tamil people in Vanni to stone age.

[i don't think this is practical.

1. this way is unpassable for a large troop and there is no "work" there.]

The SLA does not need to use the entire Div 55 to clear the Chundikulam area; that is a minor task. The main task of Div 55, that I proposed is to move along the East coast, sweeping the region between A35 and the sea, while Div 53 does the same along A-35 and the landward side. Both Divs will move essentially parallel to A35, side-by-side.

Div 55 will meet either one Brigade of Div 59, or the Air Mobile Brigade of Div 53 moving up North along A35 on the seaward side, from the Mullaitivu area. The other Brigades of Div 59 will confront and overcome the Puthukuidyiruppu defences and then move North along A35.

S.Degam,

No,I have got more.About you.For me you are are look like people who say KAPUWATH KOLA/NIL/RATHU.No more than that. How the hell you blame for MR bros co for those happened.I will tell you my stand about situation in my country.

Other than lttp problem, this country is ruined by our politicians only. Since the day britiah gave us half indipedence back in 1948,tell me how many politicians ruled the country?????

D.S.S. one genuine politician. Sir John Kothalawala didn't disturbed much but loved this country like anything.

SWRD...In recent history he is the one most responsible for giving starter to the present situation in SL. He changed his religion because of he loved/believed bhuddism. He couldn't speak mother toungh and learnt it because of greedy of power he did this all. And finally put the petrol to the fire almost burning under the ashes. Do you think it is the patriotism???? No its using racialism to take power. He went to hell leaving that fire on us.

Sirimavo,
She started to some thing for this country and went out of control because of her rathu brothers haal/miris polu.Fucked the people and gave the JR upper hand.

JRJ,

Everybody thought he was a political master/genius who has American backup for everything, my balls.

1) Most disarstrous thing he did was letting so called Desha premin's to run loose in 23rd July 1983 when Lt Vaas Gunawardhana and 13 heros funeral at Borella cemetary. If he gave shoot on sight orders to the police and army and stopped it he would have ben unpopular among sinhalese for little time but i call then he would have avoided the ltte's express train recognise by IC. He blindly believed America would come to help SL. Indira Ghandi didn't like European biased JR and its open echonomic policies and asked RAW agents to pick up tamil terrorists and train them against SL.
2) He started open economy and went out of control. His bussiness friends/relatives took full advantage of free trade and destroyed the local product. Can you guys imgine the impact on tamils. They produced best onions/mangos/chillies/fresh fish every morning/bananas/vegitables. What happened to them. Same like our farmers in sinhala areas. no differance.

3) And the perks he gave to politicians.Duty free cars/petrol allowance......etc. Chit MP positions because of election system where as president can appoint any murderer/thug to parliment( Ciril Mathew/Mervin Silva.........). Who started political thugerry to the country??? Attaking monks/attornies/judges/opponents/media(Dawasa)

Mahinda and bros co atleast had balls to stand for the country behalf of war againt bloody lttp terrorists.Do Ranil ponnaya/mongal have this quality.
Tell ranil ponnayata taste a woman and love that flesh before he make love for this country and the nation.

Agreed, you are so right. As an addition, even Kapuwath Kola people do love their motherland very much. This is not about UNP,SLF or JVP its all about our country and a group of terrorists who are trying to throw away a government elected by the people's choice, and thats called Democracy if someone who does not know really.

excellent news.only a few more days for the whole country to be under the lion flag!

parakum
by the way I found the following article published recently in daily news very appealing under Terrorism silver lining by one Charith ;
Sri Lanka has been plagued by terrorism for over two decades now which has brought death and destruction in abundance and hindered the progress of the country seriously. For a predominantly Buddhist country this is more than a bitter pill to swallow. Had Prabakaran been considered to be an honest and trustworthy figure there is no doubt the majority of Buddhists might have conceded to accept any demand of the LTTE for a lasting permanent peace.

It was not the case to be. We are in the middle of an attrition war if not won would destroy our social fabric. It was a hobson's choice for the true Sri Lankan. Division of the country would not end in amicability and friendship but just sleep walking to future border conflicts, invasions and wars leading to much worse tragedies than now to our future generations.

Our politicians have taken more than a decade or two to realise that the LTTE has to be crushed militarily to stop this carnage. Nothing can mitigate the pain and sorrow Sri Lanka has endured as a nation as a result of the terrorism but a few hard facts have emerged through this burning wreck to give us some consolation.

Sri Lanka had only a ceremonial army until the terrorism struck the country, a small group of thugs waving sticks and guns could have taken Sri Lanka over anytime then.

India has been struggling to contain separatism in many states for so long and if Tamil Nadu were to form an independent state then the prospects for Sri Lanka would have been very grim. It would have been just a cakewalk for them on the very next day when we were saddled with the ceremonial army. LTTE has brought this realism to the fore for us fortunately and if the unthinkable does happen in the future such callous judgement from Tamil Nadu is unlikely to happen anymore. Credit goes to LTTE for raising this matter internally because an external force could have made grave consequences to Sri Lanka.

Our army has now become strong and has gained credit the world over for its professionalism. It may currently be one of best fighting units in the world in jungle warfare. No Sri Lankan in his or her wildest dream ever would have imagined to allocate such an enormous budget for the defence especially when the nation is struggling with such severe economic hardships. No political leader ever would have dared even to mention such a need in the defence budget in normal circumstances. However the LTTE gave us the wake up call that was needed and in spite of all the hardships the Sri lankans have risen up to transform the military to a fighting unit with a huge defence budget.

The war may be soon over but the harsh realities of the modern unstable world dictate that we should not only maintain but in fact increase the budget for the defence to prevent the terrorism to raise its ugly head again. We do not want our future generation to suffer as we did by any means. The best example for this strategy could be taken from our neighbouring India where people still starve to death and are forced to eat rats in some tribal villages due to poverty. Notwithstanding these India maintains the world's fourth largest army and sends rockets to moon at staggering costs. There is no opposition to a sky high defence budget as Indians have learnt to put the country first policy after several wars. Lack of a war threat to Sri Lanka made our previous leaders to neglect the military. Once the army has beaten the terrorists the Navy should get the top notch in our future defence strategy. When some unfortunate nationalities in the world fight to call a land of theirs we have a gem of a land to protect and safeguard.

There are other huge benefits that came along with the terrorism. Winning this war will definitely change the whole psyche of Tamil Nadu. Until recent times we were looked down upon by some Tamil Nadu jokers as sort of a mini state that could be manipulated to their whims and fancies rather than as a sovereign nation. It is probably a reflection of their own realism that they can never be a sovereign nation that they tried to consider us also to be. However no word of discord ever uttered from Sri Lanka to hurt their feelings for fear of reprisals from the centre and therefore no wonder it was taken for granted by them that they could interfere in our internal affairs with impunity. Holding Sri Lanka to ransom by threats of invasion, crossing the palk straits with goons and flotillas of boats and fasting unto death exectra were common place.

We have shown in no uncertain terms where is our rightful place in contrast to theirs during this war. This war has given the nation the rare opportunity to shine as a sovereign independent country against all odds showing strength and character to the whole world.

Terrorism has opened the eyes of this sleeping nation to rally round the government and the military to take effective steps to safeguard the country. A new sense of patriotism and pride has reawakened the nation from sleeping slumbers. The whole country has bravely padded unto a war front with immense sacrifices recognising and acclaiming our political and military heroes. Americans and Western nations would have been proud to have in their lands at a time of such a war those patriotic sentiments uttered by our citizens and poll results generated in favour of war notwithstanding the great sacrifices and calamity. Nowhere in the modern history in Sri Lanka such patriotic forces have bonded the nation together as independence from the colonial masters was given on a platter without a military struggle. Sri Lankan diaspora has taken the fight to the international borders shouting and waving flags just as seen in a thrilling cricket match abroad.

Terrorism paved the way for such patriotic fervour to the people.

The knowledge and expertise the Army gained through inching across every nook and corner in the whole Northeast would be an added blessing in future security planning for the country.

Cinema and television have come to the forefront of nations in the modern world to project its nationalistic and proud image. Their movies and soap operas are full of stories depicting bravery and patriotism to the motherland. Sri Lankan Cinema unfortunately has failed miserably in this front probably due to lack of heroic material in the history of modern Sri Lanka.

This void is now amply fulfilled with heroics and bravery from our military and political fronts, which could be made to surfeit of stories to infuse and develop our film industry and to inject pride in our future generations. Therefore this war could turn out to be a boon to our film industry now in dire straits.

There are two major forces that unite the South Asian diaspora in the world to their native lands. One is cricket and the other being the cinema. Sri Lanka is way up in front with relation to cricket bonding the diaspora together but our film and music industry needs to take the challenge and rise up to fulfil this shortcoming.

Terrorism has brought back our self-esteem and respect and the rightful stand in the international community as an independent and a sovereign country. We were bending over backwards to please anything foreign be it personals or organisations even at the expense of damaging our image and integrity. Any foreign advice, how daft that sounded was considered the gospel truth. Our past inept leaders never dared to differ or challenge anything foreign leading the country to disaster and humiliation. What swift change the terrorism has brought us in this regard. We have strong leaders who can challenge and withstand foreign adversity to the betterment of the country. Hundreds of such warnings and advice fall by the wayside while the country is marching forward.

Sri Lankans world over can stand and applaud the country with dignity and respect.

We have now had leaders who could call a spade a spade without fear or submission.

Be it UN leaders or human right leaders or diplomats or political leaders from other countries they were put in their right place with bold and brave broadcasts of what we thought of them by our strong leaders. We show that we are not timid to take anything damaging lying down.

Terror has brought our self-confidence and valour to the fore.

It brings nothing but sheer joy to the true patriotic Lankans to see how our political and military leadership withstood and resisted the immense pressures and threats brought on them by so called Co Chairs, European and American establishments, Christian Churches, INGOs, NGOs and human right activists, all misguided.

Looking back at these developments I am certain our future generations will hold us in awesome admiration and gratitude!

I think the MAIN problem is LTTE. comparing LTTE to local politicians is like comparing a massive heart attack to a common cold. it was the LTTE that land mined 13 soldiers & opened a pandoras box.

with that act everything got militarized & paved the way for crooked politicians & business deals. JR's selfish postponement of elections & shit constitution didn't help.

But if u look around we see plenty of businesses that have come up thru the enterprise of hard working people. they employ hundreds. some of these businessman are from the outstation areas who know the value of money & hard life not having even the ability of spoken english. we need much more people like this. (entreprenuers). it's amazing. some of them employ fully qualified CIMA accountants.

while i admit that politicians do major shit, blaming them for everything doesn't work. we're the people who elect them. so we should work towards our own salvation at a personal level as well as national level. i think we have started going in the right direction. we gotta have a benevolent dictator. like singapore & malaysia has.

we must aim to be more developed than those countries & attract qualified people. it's highly possible. what isn't?

2 years ago everybody had given up on national liberation. today?

Interesting blog. So it appears to be endgame in SL?

Two questions for people here.

1. Why does one hear very little about captives or prisoners of war in this campaign? On the Sl or LTT side. No prisoners being taken? Sounds grim.

2. What do y'all mean by chena and/ or modaya? Nothing good I suspect. :)
