RAW plotting Prabha's escape?

A secret plan to extract Prabhakaran and Poddu Ammaan from the battlezone has/is in operation. A team of influential Tamil expatriates had arrived in Chennai to coordinate this mission, which is being organized by the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) of India.

The plan was/is to extract Prabhakaran and Poddu Ammaan and bring them to safety and to coordinate disruptive attacks in Sri Lanka from abroad. It is DefenceWire's understanding that the plan was hatched under pressure from Tamil Nadu and to hold Sri Lanka to ransom over the long-run. An unspecified sum of money has been put together as the budget for this operation and two Ukrainian mercenary pilots have also been recruited, sources told DefenceWire.

The second part of the plot is to get the remaining top-ranking LTTE leaders to surrender to the ICRC, which, according to international norms, prevents any interference from the Army. This was to ensure the lives of these second and third-rung leaders will be safe and they would receive amnesty since no specific charges can be leveled against them by the AG's Department. After receiving amnesty, the men and women cannot be touched and they would be free to coordinate their plans in Sri Lanka.

There is now fresh doubt as to whether Prabhakaran and Poddu have already been extracted. The Navy said last week it had fired at a plane that had come and landed at Puthukudiirippu and left. The Air Force refused this claim. The SLAF has recently been having some problem detecting and intercepting small low-flying aircrafts.

There is also some doubt as to whether an escape was made via the sea. 10 Tigers were extracted on the 18th of this month by an LTTE Sea Tiger Boat from Pulmoddai, indicating some gaps in the Navy's own defenses.

Phew... We were saved by a whisker. Imagine fleets of these coming out of production chains.

I'm sure the designers are bogus NGO vultures, but this is indeed an achievement.

A piece of cake for SLN with all resources, but they never achieved it on their own.

THIS is why I say that we need to continue on weaponry development and become a nation who profess that.

It should be the no 2 postwar priority for MOD [no 1 is taking care of the goodwill of heroes injured and not]. And we should utilize the skills of local engineers and man power of SLDF for this project.

35 ft Long Submarine, 3 more Submarines Among LTTE Recoveries in Udayarkattu

MULLAITTIVU: IN WHAT could be considered as one of the most startling and incredible recoveries that has ever been made by the Army in WANNI, Task Force – III troops, now dominating UDAYARKATTU, MULLAITTIVU recovered one 35 ft long armour plated complete LTTE submarine, three more small submarines still under construction, three suicide boats and a large haul of LTTE maritime equipment Thursday (29) morning during their search in the area.

This assortment of LTTE detected by dominating troops, other than what has been mentioned above included one low bed trailer, one armour plate used for bending machines, fifteen oxy-acetylene welding cylinders, thirty armour plate sheets of 20 ft each, three pedal-type suicide boats, one Dvora-type fast attack craft, a large number of water pumps, two lorries, two buses, one truck, one heavy duty generator, one water bowzer trailer, one bowzer, filled with kerosene, two large lathe machines, two powerful compressors, one welding plant, a number of electric motors, one large lifting jack, many boats and vehicle engines, three hangar-shaped buildings of 75 ft x 15 ft each, fifteen small tiled-houses of 20 ft x 30 ft with full air conditioning and five tiled-billets of 25 ft x 100 ft with full air conditioning.

4 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops, commanded by Major NAJEEWA EDIRISINGHE of the 631 Brigade commanded by Lieutenant Colonel PRIYANTHA PERERA operating under the Task Force – III Brigadier SATHYAPRIYA LIYANAGE after finding this LTTE military cantonment in UDAYARKATTU area commenced their further searches Thursday (29) morning to find the above LTTE paraphernalia to their utter astonishment.

The entire area from where those items were recovered covers about 2 sq km in the interior of UDAYARKATTU area, showing all the hallmarks of an LTTE cantonment, through which almost all seaborne LTTE operations were either launched or monitored after producing necessary equipment and other gadgets.

The military camp complex had been constructed with wider access roads to VISUAMADU and other adjoining towns using natural creepers and foliage in the MULLAITTIVU jungles to the maximum.

It is believed this is the only terrorist organization in the world that possessed submarines of this nature and other suicide boats, etc.

if it's norway who suppiled the technology

Brother, judging from the few pictures I have seen of the "small submarine" (I think) they seem to be pretty crude.

I think that even the larger 35ft sub is just a basic vessel with the ability to dive and surface, propel itself with a battery driven motor, possibly with a snorkel breathing tube for charging the battery from a small diesel engine while submerged, and some chemical filters for removing CO2 from air stored in compressed air cylinders, to permit extended operation.

It would be interesting to see whether they have developed some kind of compressed air turbine driven torpedo, and a means of firing a torpedo loaded into a tube from within the submarine, and fired with with compressed air. Such a torpedo needs to be directionally stabilized vertically and laterally, and have either a contact or proximity fuse to detonate. This is probably the most difficult aspect of using a WW-II class submarine for warfare.

It could very well be that the small submarines were developed to carry divers who would manually attach remotely detonated limpet mines to the hulls of our ships. This is similar to the two-man "underwater chariots" used by both the British and the Italians against each other's navies, and the two-man Japanese subs sent to Pearl Harbor to sink US navy ships, during WW-II.

Voice of Tigers banned

The Government yesterday banned the Voice of Tigers (VoT), the so-called official radio of the LTTE, Director General of the Media Center for the National Security Lakshman Hulugalle told The Island last evening.

A special gazette would be issued today (27), he said.

The Telecommunication Regulatory Commission had terminated the broadcast license granted to the VoT by the Media Ministry of the last UNF Government under Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Chairman TRCPriyantha Kariyapperuma, told The Island following the LTTE's ban, the ban of their radio was mandatory. "This was discussed very much during the last couple of weeks, but the decision was taken only on Sunday,"

It was earlier reported that several influential contacts had helped the LTTE to obtain the transmission license to broadcast of Tamil FM Radio.

Earlier the LTTE had used the US based INTELSAT-12 for their radio and television transmissions before its banning later by the authorities after verification that these stations had been solely carrying out a propaganda mission of the LTTE which was a proscribed terrorist outfit in US. The second attempt of the LTTE to resume their transmissions through the Hong Kong based AsiaSat, using a third party to obtain a satellite loop fall short of achieving their objective after a timely revelation of the true nature of broadcast material.

Wherever the LTTE goes, death follows!

My Comment at ExpressBuzz.com:

VCK leader Thol Thirumavalvan concluded his fast-unto-death without attaining his goal! I propose that a constitutional amendment be enacted to prohibit people from terminating their fasts-unto-death prematurely. This kind of thing can give a bad name to all upright politicians by misleading the gullible voting public who have every right to expect their illustrious leaders to keep their word. In fact, the penalty for terminating a fast-unto-death prematurely should be immediate beheading. If we don't implement such preventative measures, all Tamil Nadu politicians could be viewed by the world as JOKERS and CLOWNS! Would any reasonable human being blame them?

what about the planes? did norway have a hand in getting LTTE air power? they don have to give direct help. with their european connections all they have to do was put the deal thru contacting the right people.

how the LTTE a terrorist org. aquired air power after sept. 11, 2001 is a deep mystery. it couldn't have been done without the help of a european country.

norway (with ranil) sure had a hand in getting LTTE radio stations that could even spy on us apparently.

what the norwegians helped LTTE with thru NGO's should be brought to light. (heavy machinery & god knows what. could even be weapons shipments arranged thru third paties).

norway's supposed to have trained LTTE cadres (in norway as well as thailand).

eric solheim's still trying to arrange ceasefires. what's his big problem? one year after the end of the BS ceasefire in which norway refused to control LTTE but kept on blaming both parties for the LTTE violence?

Guys,

I thought of pointing something out about the recent discoveries made by the Army.

By now, we have discovered many different types of naval crafts including several submarines. Then we have found many factories run by the LTTE, Some manufacturing different types of explosive devices, and also chemical factories. Doesn't this show how many things we can do, even with limited resources.

I can't help wondering why, as a government, we do not promote scientific research and development related to defense, that much. I know there are research and development divisions are there in the Army/Navy /Airforce which are working on some small projects. I am glad that we are manufacturing things like Unicorn personal carriers and some of the naval crafts.

But what I propose is that we should do more than that. I know for a fact that there are enough engineers in our country with sufficient background and capacity to develop advanced technologies that we can use in military. If we want, we can develop ourselves, these Unmanned Areal Vehicles, Unmanned boats, Mine detection robots etc. (I know about some projects which got stalled in the middle and about people who left the country disappointed )

Another thing is, we can develop ourselves lot of explosive devices and guns that we spend millions to buy. Thats is for country's defense.

The same thing goes for other industries as well. (Paranthan Chemical factory is one example) There are lots of things we can do with all the resources we have.

If these things are initiated and promoted by the government, and if opportunities are given, I know that there are many sons and daughters of our mother lanka who are willing to come back to sri lanka and serve in their respective fields.

Opinions.. anyone ?

velluprabhakaran said...

i think we should concentrate on developing & advancing what we build at the moment.

yea, the unicorn buffel. if we can build something stronger, almost of tank strength cost effectively there'll be a market for it mainly from third world countries.

even the most advanced american/ russian tanks that cost millions $ are not 100% anti tank missile proof. they can be blasted.

so i think our products (although not very hi tech) have commercial value when combined with our army success/tactics/ experience. our anti terrorist reputation will carry a lot of brand weight if we market ourselves properly.

we have fought the most ruthless & viscous terrorist org. in the world for 30 years with these weapons & won against all odds stacked against us. that's a hell of an achievement & selling point.

New forum to spearhead stir on Tamils issue
ExpressBuzz.com
29 Jan 2009

CHENNAI: In yet another development on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, four political parties - MDMK, PMK, CPI and VCK have formed the Sri Lankan Tamils Protection Movement (SLTPM) and decided to organise agitations to take the Central and state governments to task on the issue.

The DMK, in the 1980s, spearheaded a movement called Tamil Eelam Solidarity Organisation (TESO), supporting the formation of Tamil Eelam in Lanka. The TESO urged India to intervene militarily in Lanka to liberate the Tamils. Now, the DMK is left behind in forming yet another movement for safeguarding Tamils.

A black-flag demonstration on Mahatma Gandhi’s death anniversary on January 30 in front of his statue on Marina will be the SLTPM’s first agitation.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting attended by Vaiko (MDMK), S Ramadoss (PMK), D Pandian (CPI) and Thol Thirumavalavan (VCK). P Nedumaran of the Tamil Nationalist Movement will be coordinator of the movement.

After a 90-minute meeting, Nedumaran told reporters that the leaders of the movement would hold a meeting of like-minded parties to chalk out their future course of action on January 31.

He said invitations would be extended to all political parties including the ruling DMK in the state.

MY COMMENT #1:

How is India handling separatist movements within India? Are you negotiating, or sending the army in? I didn't see negotiations with the sikhs taking over the Golden Temple in Srinagar nor with the terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir. Well, I'll tell you: Every separatist movement that has been successfully contained in India, has been suppressed militarily. It is the duty and right of sovereign India to maintain its integrity, and to take military action to protect the lives of its people, but yet Indians have a different standard for Sri Lanka. Why is the same principle not being applied consistently to all cases? What are your principles; do you have any, any at all on this issue? Or does it depend only on whose ox is being gored, and that small neighbors can be bullied at will?

MY COMMENT #2:
Tamils in Tamil Nadu claim to have compassion for Sri Lanka Tamils because of "placental relations." How is it that your "placental relations" don't generate any compassion for the Dalit Tamils of your own state? Why is it that the communal rabble-rouser Ramadoss wanted a "Vanniyar-only" state for his caste? Why is it that Dalits can't get admission to Hindu temples, to colleges, or to public water in your wonderful state brimming with compassion and tolerance? Why is it that the non-Tamil people of Aryan descent in North India are demonized by Tamils of Tamil Nadu? Finally, why do Sri Lankan Tamils who come to Tamil Nadu, return complaining that Indian Tamils discriminate against them as low-caste? I say you are suffering from a terminal case of HYPOCRISY! Stop preaching to Sri Lanka; We have no such discrimination in Sri Lanka; We are far ahead of you.

The civilian issue is getting worse now. It is one of the top stories of most of the news agencies.

Gov. should do something ASAP. According to the new map, I think it needs few weeks, not few days, to clear everything. Therefore it is better to focus on civilian issue.

We cannot continue the current situation for few more days.

SRI LANKA: Govt Ignores Supreme Court
By IPS Correspondents

COLOMBO, Jan 29 (IPS) - Far from heeding charges of human rights abuses and stifling dissent, the government has, this week, added blatant disregard for judicial fiat to its list of sins.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court (SC) terminated proceedings in a controversial oil hedging case, saying the government was no longer implementing court orders on the issue.

Sources said the court of Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva backed off from taking on the executive after a series of high-profile judgments it passed against President Mahinda Rajapakse’s administration were simply ignored.

Peace activist and columnist Jehan Perera says that the latest act showed that effectively the country’s Constitution had broken down. He said there is no constitutional crisis developing only because no one dares take on the government."

Another political analyst, who declined to be named, told IPS that the checks and balances in the Sri Lankan system have become dysfunctional. ’’This effectively is a form of dictatorship. The executive (President) is not listening even to the SC,’’ she said.

The case in question relate to petitions filed by three Sri Lankan citizens, complaining that oil hedging agreements entered into between the state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) and Standard Chartered Bank, CitiBank, Deutsche Bank and two local banks were one sided and heavily in favour of the banks.

As a result the CPC now owes these banks more than 800 million US dollars in hedging payments.

In November, the SC had stayed payments by the CPC to the banks and had also suspended the CPC chairman pending the completion of the case.

Subsequently, the Court had also ordered the government to reduce petrol prices to Rs 100 (0.8 US dollar) per litre from Rs 122 (1.07 dollars) a litre after the petitioners complained that the CPC had not reduced prices despite world crude prices falling.

However, the government did not fully implement the order, reducing the price by just two rupees to Rs 120 rupees (1.05 dollars), a move which ultimately led to the Court terminating proceedings in the case.

Analysts say that the latest twist in the drama between the judiciary and the government has caused further deterioration in the law and order situation in Sri Lanka where abduction and killing of political opponents and journalists have become commonplace.

Two weeks ago Lasatha Wickrematunga, a prominent English language newspaper editor, was slain by an unidentified group. Earlier this week, Upali Tennekoon, editor of a Sinhala language national weekly, was stabbed and injured by unidentified men near his home.

At least 14 journalists and media workers have been killed and many more abducted or arrested since 2006 in Sri Lanka, drawing concern and condemnation from local and international rights groups.

There is a general feeling in the country that the government is using the war between teh Sri Lankan army and Tamil rebels in the north of the island country as an excuse to beat down criticism on any issue, including the handling of the economic crisis.

Last week, a corporate leader who suggested at a public seminar that the government should devalue the local currency to revive exports was reprimanded by an influential government politician who implied that the former was being ‘unpatriotic’.

Rajapakse has ordered the Sri Lankan army to wrest Tamil dominated areas in the north and east of the country from the control of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) after unilaterally withdrawing from a Norwegian-brokered ceasefire which held the peace for five years from February 2002.

On Sunday the government announced the capture of Mullaitivu, the last town held by the LTTE, which then retreated into the surrounding jungles taking with them a population of around 250,000 Tamils.

Last week, six former U.S. ambassadors to Sri Lanka jointly wrote an open letter to Rajapakse expressing concern over the events unfolding in the country, particularly the attacks on journalists.

Expressing their personal views, the six ambassadors - Marion Creekmore, Teresita Schaffer, Peter Burleigh, Shaun Donnelly, Ashley Wills, and Jeffrey Lunstead - said they were upset by the developments in Sri Lanka.

‘’We fear that, even as Sri Lanka is enjoying military progress against the LTTE, the foundations of democracy in the country are under assault,’’ they said in the letter."

"Some have suggested that these events have been carried out not by elements of the government, but by other forces hoping to embarrass the government. We do not find such arguments credible,’’ the former ambassadors said.

Rohan Edrisinha, director at the Centre for Policy Alternatives and the country’s best-known constitutional expert, says Tuesday’s ruling by the SC creates a major problem by ‘’continuing to ignore the law and do what it feels is expedient,’’ he told IPS.

Edrisinha identified the root of the problem as the failure to set up set up a bipartisan constitutional council as agreed by Parliament in 2005. The council was to have been entrusted with the task of making key appointments in the judiciary and the police - now the sole prerogative of the President.

Well done MR- Show the rest of the world how it is done!

Civilian,

Why does LTTE take civilians with them?

What evidence does the editor of the video has to prove shelling done by SLA.
Why do we see some LTTE uniform members + voice of video asking to show the dead /injured kids? Surely this must have done by LTTE to show these pictures to the world!!! so they could blame SLA.

Either way every one should avoid civilian casualties.

LTTE MUST RELEASE THE CIVILIANS.

PRABA INSTRUCTED LTTE TO KILL SINHALESE EARLIER NOW HE'S DIRECTLY KILLING TAMILS.

What sort of animals killing their own !!!?

TERRORISTS

According to some of the LTTP idiologists, LTTP got arms to get their so called equal rights to the Tamils coz they realised in 1970s that waging a war agaist SLG was the answer. Now, after nearly 30 years, they must realise that it can NOT be done with arms. So, If they love their civilians they must drop their arms and surrender to SLA/SLG.

Also, this government is not the creater of this problem and they are showing the willingness to get the matter on board positively. There are 22 TNA (LTTP ass lickers) MPs in the SL parliment as well.

On the other hand cease-fire meanse BEGIN fire oneday. So, we, Sri Lankans do NOT need to begin fire oneday again. We need to stop fire forever.

Therefore logically only option available for LTTPigs is to surrender to SLA/SLG.

Ares,
good argument but you forgot one thing
its not your food convoys
it's INGO's food convoys that you stopped

Wrong! it was the government who sent the food and medicine all the time.even the diesel stocks. Not INGOs.
INGO were suppose to build houses to the civilians etc,and you can see on television the amount of work they have done in the uncleared areas.lol

dsk said...

you might even see the government logos in some of the food items packaging. and also in the fertilizer bags on news. one even read "mahinda chinthana" stuff

I hope that these guys are still trapped in SL. The last thing we want is for them to coordinate attacks from foreign soils.

The possibility of an aerial pickup is kind of far fetched. I hope they didnt use any of their submarines.

If he has escaped already it is high time for GoSL to form something like Mossad which will operate in all the places where Tamil diaspora live (Canada, Malaysia, etc). Such intelligence org will bring back Praba to SL irrespective of the place where he hides. This is just like how Adolf Eichmann was taken to Israel by Mossad.

The Tamil movement will exist for years to come filled with determination if praba escapes. It will even glorify praba as a legendary Tamil leader. The government should hang him along with his friends and that is a good and an easy way to brake the backbone of so called Tamil nationalism.

The following article appearing on Tamilnet demonstrates how some Tamils who support LTTE behaved in Australian soil and destroy our image and our flag. We should identify these people and should not allow them come in to our beautiful country at any time.
