All quiet on the battlefront

Today was a day of closure in the LTTE's violent saga. However, some interesting developments can be expected within the next day or two from the Eastern Province as Ram and Umaram and their teams are traced down.

The two leaders moved their families to the north soon after their split with Karuna in 2004. Their fate may be revealed in due course as more bodies are recovered from the battlefield.

As reported by the media, LTTE's former police and 'political wing' chief and chief spokesman Nadesan, his family, Pulidevan and his family and Ramesh and his family have all died and their bodies discovered by the Special Forces.

There were rumours that the two leaders had gone down on their knees and begged the Special Forces at which point they assumed the Special Forces to smile and let them go.

Rumours are that Prabhakaran's entire family was dead. These rumours indicate that even Prabha's daughter, Duharga was there at the scene. Until otherwise indicated by the government, at this moment in particular, their bodies are nowhere to be found.

Other leaders like Lawrence, Karikalan, Ilanthirayan, Papa, Sempian etc are also dead. Their bodies might also be discovered in due course.

The chief of the LTTE's Mine-laying unit and a chief innovator of the Jhonny Mine and other deadly IEDs has died having lost both his legs in a mysterious blast. The LTTE's chief of smuggling with India and the deputy of the international procurement units (not Castro) have also died.

Meanwhile the last batch of the 80,500 civilians rescued after the final operation on the 15th were dispatched to Vavuniya today. With this the total number of civilians rescued is a staggering 350,000.

So Ananda-USA,

I think GOSL should clearly state, look you are implying Sri Lankans are not capable of doing this - that a foreigner is essential for it to succeed. How do you people come to these conclusions?

Also, GOSL should say, if you are looking for employment of your citizens - look somewhere else. If you want to help, observe and do constructive advice by all means do so.

Still GOSL need to close the door for the collaborators of LTTE- and put the evidence out.

KP was talking via phone to India's Times NOW TV yesterday. It shows how media savvy he is.

According to someone who met him several years ago, he is highly personable. According to the same person, while he is an eelamist at heart he has no qualms about talking to Sinhalese people. Obviously the western countries think the world of him.

KP was keeping the lie about Prabha being alive going as along as he could all the while knowing that Prbha had kicked the bucket.

Marie Colvin's article forced him to acknowledge what he had already acknowledged to her in a telephone conversation.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article6350563.ece

"I was woken at 5am by a phone call from another Tigers contact in southeast Asia. He had been unable to get through to Nadesan. “I think it’s all over,” he said. “I think they’re all dead.”

Now Vaiko is calling KP a traitor for letting the world know that the Sun God is a mere mortal and that he is dead.

On an unrelated matter, per Tamil Net, Bruce Fein, who takes US $30,000 a month as consulting fees from the diaspora, has filed suit against the US Treasury Secretary to block the IMF loan. The suit has been thorwn out by the courts but it shows that the diaspora clowns have no intention of stopping their PR war against the Govt of Sri Lanka.

Regarding KP, he is wanted in India for the Rajiv Gandhi murder. There is still an arrest warrant still out for him.

Here is some information on KP in an Indian newspaper that shows his Norway connection:

http://www.screenindia.com/news/after-16year-global-hunt-kp-most-wanted-in-rajiv-assassination-is-held-in-bangkok/215986/

"In its report, the Jain Commission said that KP was among the LTTE operatives who had “prior knowledge” about the impending attack on Rajiv Gandhi but he eluded the Special Investigation Team (SIT) when the assassination probe began.

The SIT questioned KP’s brother,Yogeswaran, who lives in India and also questioned Sivakumar, his brother’s son-in-law who was earlier working in one of KP’s ships and later settled in New Zealand, where MDMA officials met him. But these encounters yielded nothing as to the whereabouts of KP.

Intelligence inputs received by India indicated KP was undergoing medical treatment in Norway and had been provided “sanctuary” by the Norwegian Government. Following a Red Corner Notice being issued in his name, this was taken up with the Interpol wing in Oslo but in a message received in December 2003, authorities there claimed they had no knowledge of his whereabouts. They however, registered his name in the electronic register of “wanted or missing persons.”

In January 2004, the CBI Director wrote to the Foreign Secretary to urge the Government of Norway to take appropriate action for apprehending KP. The State Secretary of Norway admitted to New Delhi that while there were unaware of KP’s visit to Oslo “if KP had come incognito with forged documents under some other name it was technically possible to have eluded the system.”

Thusitha, I hope GOSL has Pottu Amma in custody. This MF has so much blood on his hands. I think of all the civilians killed by bombs in buses, etc.

I wonder how did LTTE keep track of locations where they hid suicide bombs, regular bombs etc.
Was it decentralized - I doubt it. It had to be centralized - as Pottu Amma would probably select the target, and supply the material.

Either he had two separate groups doing it where the talking went through him or he had all under his thumb. I think these racist, murders need to control all of it. So it may have been under him.

Hope GOSL has this bastard, and they are able to find all the bombs etc hidden in all over Sri Lanka.

Whatever, said and done by KP, Vaiko or any others; LTTE has seen the end of its journey. Their fund raising ability will be reduced to such a low level in coming weeks, no body will bother anymore. Disheartened Tamil Diaspora will try to forget what has happened and concentrate on more pressing problems of their daily lives.

The SL govt has taken many hard stands and made many sacrifices in the recent past in its effort to bring peace to our country. These hard stands could even result in various countries pushing to delay the funds pledged as loans to Sri Lanka including the IMF loan of US$ 1.9bn.

Its now our duty to help the govt quickly so that we minimise the possibilities of other countries influencing and the IMF providing the loan on various conditions which may not be the best for our country. We are very proud to be Sri Lankans and we should do everything possible to help the govt financially so that they can negotiate even with the IMF from a position of strength and perhaps even go to the extent to tell that Sri Lanka does not need this money on conditions which are not favourable to the country. This can be done only if the Government has adequate funds and resources at its disposal needed for all the proposed development work etc. We must demonstrate that vast majority of Sri Lankans wherever they live are with the Govt.

Imagine the amount of funds collected by LTTE from expats all over the world. If this was possible why can't all the expat Sri Lankans (Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others who are patriots of Sri Lanka) help the govt in the same way. You don't need to only donate funds but you can invest in Govt of Sri Lanka bonds. This way the govt borrows, pays interest and repays the debt not to IMF or other foreign sources but back to our own country men. I believe this has to be done in an organised manner. From your point you only shift your investment from an investment in a foreign bank to an investment in Govt of Sri Lanka Bonds. In simple mathematical terms you only need 100,000 people investing US$10,000 to raise US$ 1 Billion. Therefore the more people we get on board the better it would be for Sri Lanka.

The govt I'm sure would also welcome donations from those who are willing. If the LTTE could do, so can all other Sri Lankans. Pls look into this.

I have contacted some officials of Central Bank of Sri Lanka who informed that they will be issuing a "Dollar Denominated Development Bond" by mid June which would be available for subscription by Sri Lankan diaspora. I have also contacted the Head of Treasury at Peoples Bank N. Vasantha Kumar and he expressed his willingness to help anyone who needed any information and clarifications and how one could invest in these bonds. His and his deputy Roshini's contact details are as follows.

Mr N. Vasantha Kumar
Senior Deputy General Manager - Treasury and Investment Banking
People’s Bank, No. 34, Sir Mohamed Macan Markar Mawatha, Colombo 03, Sri Lanka

Mobile : +94777687996
Fax No : +94 11 2304491
Email : kumarnv@peoplesbank.lk

Roshini

Email : roshini@peoplesbank.lk

I have also attached a list of contacts of other banks as recommended by Central Bank. You could contact any of these banks to get more information.

If you can think of any other alternatives to help fund the govt I'm sure it will be appreciated by the govt. Sri Lankans pls pass this thought to as many of your Sri Lankan friends living overseas. Sri Lanka needs you now. Together we can do it. As President Obama said "Yes We Can".

This is only my personal view and does not represent any views of the organisation I represent. I have not been told or requested by the govt to do this nor am I trying to represent the govt in any way but attempting to make some contribution to my country even in a small way. My sincere apologies if this mail reached someone to whom it was not intended to be sent to.

Pls think and act fast we should all rally round our country.

Best wishes

Boyz,
I received this from someone who is an unwitting member of AI:

Sri Lankan doctors in danger

Dear @#$$$,
Sri Lankan family in displaced persons camp
© AI

Thank you -- last month you stood up for thousands of innocent civilians trapped in a brutal conflict between the Sri Lankan Government and the Tamil Tigers that has been dubbed a "bloodbath" by the United Nations.

Now they need our help once more.

As the Sri Lankan Government celebrates victory over the Tamil Tigers with a national holiday -- away from the flag-flying serious human rights violations still persist in Sri Lanka.

Amnesty International has previously documented the perils of life as a journalist in Sri Lanka and now we’re hearing that three government-employed doctors have gone missing after being accused of giving false information to the media.

Please send an email to the Sri Lankan Government to release the three doctors and allow them to continue their life-saving work

Dr T. Sathiyamoorthy, Dr T. Varatharajah and Dr. Shanmugarajah were treating the sick and wounded until they reportedly travelled out of the “No Fire Zone” with approximately 5,000 other civilians. What did they do wrong? We fear they’re being held in detention for providing eyewitness reports to the media describing the horrendous suffering of ordinary civilians in makeshift medical centres.

Send your email NOW to allow these doctors to continue to help wounded civilians

As the bloody war reaches its conclusion we are witness to a delicate moment for the Sri Lankan people still caught in the conflict zone. These people have had limited access to food, water or medical supplies for more than two weeks. At this time we need doctors like Dr T. Sathiyamoorthy, Dr T. Varatharajah and Dr. Shanmugarajah more than ever.

What’s more, aid agencies like the Red Cross have restricted access -- preventing life-saving humanitarian assistance from reaching displaced people. When the UN Human Rights Council meet tomorrow for a special session on Sri Lanka, we'll be lobbying them to ensure that the Sri Lankan government allows unhindered access to all international aid workers.

Thank you for your help at this crucial time,

Rose Kulak

This is the reply sent by a patriot who got the same message from another member. He forwarded the document to me:

Hi #$%%@,
Thanks for forwarding this. I have to say that the majority of Sri Lankan expatriates have been silent on matters of Sri Lanka and have been embarrassed about the ranting of a vociferous few.
When International organisations such as AI have jumped in the fray with unethical acts such as the tennis ball affair at the Cricket World Cup (a campaign against the National Team and presumably a dig at the Government of SL which at the time was under threat by a ruthless terrorist organisation), people like myself began to have some doubts about the credibility of AI.

BTW, majority of us never ran from the Government of Sri Lanka which saw fit to provide us with a free education (any discrimination being affirmative action in favour of the poor in remote areas- not on a racial basis) which we never whinged about. My parents, for example left more out of fear of terrorism which lifted its ugly head as early as 1971. Sri Lanka’s equitable social policies and their results are self-evident in the context of its social indices and the fact that many Sri Lankan professionals have in fact gone to other shores seeking economic betterment. Many sought “refugee status” falsely and some of these have begun to admit this recently as they have realised the damage they have done to the land of their birth which gave them free health, education and even food.

Instead of helping a poor country like Sri Lanka to liberate itself from the clutches of child conscripting, terror merchants AI saw fit to support them against the Government of Sri Lanka at the World Cup of all venues!

When I went to Sri Lanka with the &^%$# to organise aid in 2005, I was embarrassed about the Unethical Conversions Bill which was touted in Sri Lanka Parliament by a minor party. However, my eyes and ears were opened when innocently we had introduced a Sri Lankan lady as a potential counsellor to one of our funders. His comment when he heard that she was working for a Christian Organisation was “Oh Good, our funders will be happy if money can go to Christian groups!”

It was like a epiphanic experience for me (pardon the pun) which brought together a number of observations I had made over a number of decades.

The LTTE (or Tamil Tigers) as they are known, are a predominantly Christian Terror organisation. (see the photograph below of catholic priests at an LTTE rally depicting the posters of the Tiger chief). Catholic priests up to the level of Bishops have attempted to undermine Sri Lankan sovereignty by writing to the Holy See and the Arch Bishop of Sydney on claims which were fabricated. In the days that I came to Australia in the mid 1980’s I also became aware of another aspect of Sri Lankan Christians who had migrated to Australia at the time. I had until then not realised that many northern Christians were in fact methodists and baptists converted by American Missionaries. They now belonged to the Uniting Church of Australia. I was aware of campaigns by the Uniting Church deriding the good offices of the Government of Sri Lanka. I had wondered about it. It may be informative to note that a prominent anti-Sri Lankan politician in Australia Mr. John Howard is a lay minister. How he developed such an anti Sri Lankan stance is only to be speculated on. When I was sitting in my lounge room in utter shock and disbelief on the boxing day of 2004, I was suddenly brought out of that numb state by a news item which flashed within hours of the disaster. This was of a previously unheard organisation called Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) members of which were on the streets of Melbourne and Sydney, collecting for the Tsunami Victims. Even in my numb state I wondered about how an organisation can be mobilised so rapidly. Some years later we were to discover that TRO was a front organisation for LTTE.

Patriots Comments continued:

When the United States is bombing Iraq and Afghanistan (and its citizens) into the middle ages and the UK and US insist on Government of Sri Lanka cease fire with a terror outfit who were holding 350 000 Sri Lankan citizens (mostly Hindu) hostage the picture becomes complete. As Hillary Clinton, secretary of State for the US has said “there are terrorists (i.e muslim) and there are others who may be freedom fighters (i.e. LTTE)” (I paraphrase her) the thinking becomes clearer.

I have become aware of the fact that there were thousands of aid organisations which descended upon Sri Lanka in 2005 at the foolish invitation of the President of Sri Lanka, when much of the immediate relief work had already been carried out by the Sri Lankan military. Unlike our project many of the NGO’s never completed projects and came and stayed in luxury hotels at the expense of their organisations. When we went spending our own money on accommodation (this was agreement with %$#@- 100% donations to go to housing project+ health), we found we could not afford many of the hotels which we had stayed at 2 years before. When the northern areas which the LTTE controlled were recently liberated, no evidence was found of any rehabilitation work done by so-called foreign NGO’s which had imported massive earth-moving machinery and other equipment into these areas. Instead LTTE had used such machinery to build huge defensive bunds to defend a military campaign which cost the lives of over 6000 Sri Lankan soldiers and evidently 20 000 LTTE fighters (most them presumably forcibly conscripted youth). All these have been Sri Lankan lives.

Now we come to the Sri Lankan doctors in danger. If I as a @##$% Government Employee was to willingly go to an area where ruthless terrorists were holding thousands of people hostage and called on a satellite phone (only terrorist have satellite phones- doctors like me would only afford mobiles) terror sympathisers overseas blaming the @##$% Government for hurting the hostages (who were shot by the terrorists while attempting to escape), I would at least be expecting to be charged when I finally escape the terrorists. I may defend myself quoting the “Stockholm Syndrome” but as a doctor I would expect at least a reprimand for my actions. Especially given that, as a Government employee I had actually tolerated the conscription of young children as cannon fodder, when I know that mothers are taking poison as a result and siblings are offering themselves to prevent them from being forcibly recruited, I would expect at least to be presented before the Medical Board if not at a criminal court. Especially if I had not made the same pleads for this population of hostages that I made against my own employer , the Government.

MayilRavana මයිල් රාවන said...

patriots comments continued:

In the context of this information that I have provided for you (you may be surprised that people like me remain silent about such things; it is because we are incredibly embarrassed about the lies spread by our own people who have not had to face the pure terror of human and parcel bombs but we are also incredulous at our Christian neighbors who appear to see the World in black and white).

Having said what I have said, as expatriate Sri Lankans we are not at all under any idealised illusions about the Government of Sri Lanka. As a democratic institution it has many failings. But we realise that it is better than nothing which is what the Sri Lankan people would be left with if they are to continue to permit neo-colonialists to influence the sovereignty of the island. The Sri Lankan people are a compassionate lot who will look after each other and as I write they are doing so. We have shed tears for our kith and kin in the north who have lost their children to the Tigers for 30 years.

If any member of AI had the love and compassion for these people that those of Sri Lankan origin have, then then AI members would not have gone to Bermuda and campaigned against the Government of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Cricket Team (loved by those of Sri Lankan origin throughout the World) in favour of the cruel Tiger. The best I can say about AI is that perhaps they have been infiltrated by those with ulterior motives. If the AI itself has any ulterior motives then they should be evident in what I have said in these paragraphs (there is a lot lot more, which I do not wish to write of, which convinces me of this stance I take in favour of the Democratic Government of Sri Lanka but time does not permit, nor would you be interested in).

As for those who have had the privilege of intelligence, who has had the privilege of free education from the Government of Sri Lanka, who as one its employees had at the very last minute of the death throes of the cruel Tiger had campaigned against that Government which was freeing its people from the clutches of the Tiger, I shed no tears. My tears are reserved for those parents and children who have suffered under the clutches of the Tiger while the Christian Church looked on.

Please feel free to pass this on to AI, for they ought to know that they have been discovered by people like me who will never forget the great betrayal.

There is no nation on earth that boasts of 2 homelands - Tamil Nadu (Nadu means Homeland) is the current homeland of the Tamil people and will always remain so. The British, Dutch, Spanish, Portuguese and French have had many colonies but always only one homeland. Can the huge Italian population in the US demand an Italian homeland within US borders? No, and America is only a couple of hundred years old compared to Sri Lanka's couple of thousand. So if the Tamils want to live in their own homeland they should try Tamil Nadu.

That's Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu is home to 60 million Tamils, yet Tamil is not an official language of India. Then why for 3 million Tamils in Sri Lanka is it so important?

1. If the Tamils had an ancient Tamil kingdom before the Sinhalese kingdom began in Sri Lanka like they claim, how is it that Tamils still number a mere 2.8 million, while Sinhalese became 17 million? Were the ancient Tamils less fertile??

2. If the Tamils came before the Sinhalese, why did they stay in the arid north and not move to more salubrious areas further south.

3. Although Tamil is an ancient language it has left no written history behind, in Sri Lanka or India, no monuments, no inscriptions to say where or what this ancient Tamil Kingdom was, or who ruled it - while Sinhalese Buddhist inscriptions and monuments can be found even in Kantharodai in Jaffna, which date back over 2000 years - Such ancient Sinhalese monuments and inscriptions can be found right across the country - in the north, east, south and west of Sri Lanka.

4. If there was a Tamil Homeland in the north, why didn't Tamil Kings like ELARA (BC 150) Who came from South India and ruled Lanka (sitting on the sinhalese throne at Anuradhapura), not run away to this northern "so called" Tamil Homeland to escape his death, or get soldiers from, when challenged and killed by a Sinhalese Prince from the south.

5. Throughout the ancient chronicled history of Sri Lanka there are several mentions made to Sinhalese kings getting down Tamil mercenaries from South India to fight their internal disputes, and many mentions to importing brides from North India for their kings. But there is no mention of mercenaries or brides got down from this so-called "Northern Tamil kingdom" where they could have walked to...Not even a marriage Proposal, or a citizens quarrel is mentioned!. So obviously a Tamil Kingdom did not exist in the north of Sri Lanka.

6. Tamil historian Dr S. Pathmanathan gives what he calls "a reasonably accurate chronological list" of the rulers of Jaffna in Dr K.M. De Silva's "History of Sri Lanka." The earliest Tamil King for whom dates are given by this Tamil Historian is "King Pararajasekaran, who ruled Jaffna from AD 1478-1519." This is correct according to Sri Lankan history.

But Sinhalese Kings have existed on recorded since BC250. The Sinhalese King Parakramabahu VI (1411-1466) repulsed the South Indian Vijayanagar Empire who tried to take over Jaffna. He then left his adopted son, Sapumal Kumara behind as emperor of Jaffna. When Parakrambahu died, in 1466, his own grandson took over the Sinhalese throne in Kotte in the South. When the adopted son Sapumal Kumara heard of the death, he went to Kotte in 1469, leaving Jaffna vacant, and killed the King's grandson to become King of all Lanka. This enabled one Pararajasekeran to become the first King of Jaffna in 1478 (only about 530 years ago).

7. Wilhelm Geiger, the famous German Ideologist writing in 1932 about the Mahawamsa (Ancient Sinhalese Chronicle) says, it is "the most astonishing dynastic history of any people from 542 BC to 1758. It is a well known fact that for hardly any part of the continent of India, is there such an uninterrupted historical tradition as for the island of Ceylon" (Sri Lanka). (He does not make mention about any Tamil History).

8. The Tamil Historian Dr S.G.Gunasegeram writing in "The Tamil" in 1955 says, "No peoples have had the good fortune to inherit such a comparatively reliable story of their hoary past as the Sinhalese. The people of Ceylon in general, and particularly the Sinhalese, are rightly proud of this ancient story of their long line of kings The Mahawamsa is a book that should be in the library of every educated Ceylonese - a book that should be read and re-read with understanding." - Again there is no mention of "Tamil history" by this ethnically Tamil historian. Why? Because there was NO Tamil kingdom or history available

9. The Sinhalese, who came from North India 2500 years ago, were Hindus.. It is an accepted historical fact that in around 300BC, Emperor Asoka sent Buddhist missionaries from India, to eastern countries like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Laos. Today these countries are Buddhist, like Sri Lanka. So why did Asoka not send any missionaries to this TAMIL Homeland called Eelam?

Asoka favoured Sri Lanka by sending his own son (a monk) and daughter (a nun) to Sri Lanka. This son and daughter of the great Emperor Asoka who came all the way from North India, and whose only mission was to preach Buddhism, spent over 40 years of their lives in Sri Lanka until death. They preached to the Sinhalese, but did not even think of preaching to this "(imaginary) ancient Tamil Kingdom," which was only walking distance away from the Sinhalese capital Anuradhapura where they lived ? Why? Was it discrimination against Tamils by Asoka and his pious children?

IS this not proof, that there was no Tamil kingdom nor even a fair population of Tamils, to encourage these devout, dedicated religious teachers to want to go and preach to this "imaginary northern kingdom," as was done in Burma, Thailand etc?

11. When in BC250 King Devanampiya Tissa went to Nagadipa (ancient name for Jaffna) in the very North to receive the sacred Bo Tree, there is no mention of him going through or to any Tamil Kingdom to get to the North. That was because there was no Tamil or any other Kingdom in the North.

12. This "so called Tamil kingdom" did nothing, built nothing, left nothing - no irrigation systems, no ruins of palaces or temples or anything else - no religious buildings, no inscriptions, no written history, nothing left behind for posterity - While in the heart of Jaffna in Kantharodai there are Buddhist temples built by Sinhalese kings. - No Tamils or their " imaginary" kingdom could have ever been Buddhist - No way!

13. There is only one recorded attack throughout history on the Sinhalese Kingdom from the North. That was by a Malayan, Chandrabhanu who first tried to attack the Sinhalese Kingdom and when he failed he went to Jaffna and tried to attack Sinhalese people from the North. But he was killed. All attacks on the Sinhalese Kingdom came only from South India - None from this so called Tamil Kingdom.

14. Around 1505 when the Portuguese took over the south and harassed Arab traders who were running businesses there. The Arabs complained to the Sinhalese King and the king gave them land on the East coast, where they still live today. This proves the East, Batticaloa and Trincomalee were also under the Sinhalese kings - in 1505 - and not under any Tamil king.

15. When the Dutch arrived in 1637 they signed a deal with the Sinhalese King to have berthing rights for their ships in harbours on the East coast, Trincomalee and Batticaloa during the monsoon rains, proving that the eastern costal regions belonged to the Sinhalese in 1637.- and not to any Tamil Kingdom.

16. When in 1660 Robert Knox's father's ship "Anne" stopped over at the eastern port of Trincomalee, Sinhalese soldiers arrested them and took them to their Sinhalese King, proving that in 1660 the east was under a Sinhalese King. Robert Knox and his friend Stephen Rutland lived among the Sinhalese (mostly in Kandy) for over 17 years. Robert Knox wrote "Robert Knox in the Kandyan Kingdom" a book about the Sinhalese he met. Nothing about Tamils or any Tamil kingdom is mentioned.

17. When King Valabha from India attacked Nagadipa in the north, King Mahinda IV (AD 956-972) sent Sinhalese troops to fight the Indians... Why? Because there was no Tamil King in Jaffna.

18. Historian Codrington says, "Place names in Jaffna indicate that it was held by the Sinhalese at a very remote date."

19. Portuguese historian De Queyroz in "Conquest of Ceylon" says "As long as Anuradhapure was the capital, the whole island was subject to one King - There were fifteen kinglets, Dinvaca, Valave, Putaloa, Trinquilimale, Batecaloa, Candea and Jaffnapatam". (Anuradhapura was the capital of Sinhalese Kings)

20. In Iriyagolla's book "Tamil claims to land" he says, Tamil Historian Rasanayagam in his heavily Tamil - biased book "Ancient Jaffna" admits that , "Jaffna was occupied by the Sinhalese earlier than by the Tamils, is seen, not only from the place names but also in some of the habits and customs of the people." And in the preface to "Ancient Jaffna" Prof. Iyengar says, "Eelam is the ancient version of the Sinhalese term Sihala. Therefore Eelam stands for the entirety of Ceylon."

When the British took over entire Sri Lanka in March 1815 by signing the "Kandyan Convention" only Sinhalese chiefs were invited to sign this Convention, which agreed to maintain and protect the Buddhist religion, its rites and privileges and their places of worship". Why were Tamils not invited to sign it? Why no mention of protecting Hindu places of worship?

Why did Tamils not demand to sign it, if they too owned a separate part of Sri Lanka? And why did they not demand that Hinduism should also be protected? Obviously Tamil Hindus were a small insignificant minority- not big enough to protest.

There is so much to prove that there was NO Ancient Tamil kingdom, and absolutely nothing to prove there was one.

22. In 1970 the Tamil Congress Manifesto stated, "The Tamil Congress is sincerely and honestly convinced that Federation is bad for Ceylon, it would be worse for the Tamils - Is it the objective of Tamils that they live as equals with Sinhalese and enjoy the rights in all nine provinces of their motherland or that they should contain themselves within the narrow confines of the North and East? The Congress cannot believe that Tamils will surrender their rights which they have so far enjoyed in (the other) seven provinces."

23. In the early 1980s when terrorism began, the 12% ethnic Tamils in the country accounted for 34.9% Engineers, 35% doctors, 38.8% Veterinary surgeons, and 33% Accountants, in Public service. That's not at all bad for a supposedly discriminated race.

In the early 1900s it was Sir Ponnambalam and Ananda Coomarasamy (both ethnic Tamils) who began the "University movement" in Colombo (not in the north) which led to the establishment in Colombo of Sri Lanka's first University. In the 1940s, A. Mahadevan a Tamil, (son of Sir Ponnambalam Arunachalam) was Minister of Home Affairs. It is obvious that all these educated Tamils lived in the south amongst their Sinhalese piers without feelinf at all discriminated.

If there was any discrimination how could nearly half of the 2.8 million Sri Lankan Tamils still continue to live among the 17 million Sinhalese in the South, where they have lived for generations? Some of these Tamils have never visited the Tamil regions in the north.

Subject: READ THIS MAIL IF YOU ARE ONE OF US and SPREAD THIS AROUND

In 1983 when this terrorism began, there were many ethnic Tamils in the Sri Lankan Cabinet and in top jobs in the capital - Mr C. Rajadurai was Minister of Regional development - Mr. Devanayagam was Minister of Home Affairs - Mr. Thondaman was Minister of Rural Industries - Mr. Shervananda was Chief Justice - Mr. Rudra Rajasingham was Inspector General of Police (and later High Commissioner to Indonesia) and his father was Senior Surgeon of the Colombo General Hospital - Mr Pasupati was Attorney General.

In the 1980s, the High Commissioner in the UK was a Tamil - The Colombo University had many Tamil lecturers and the Colombo Medical College had Professors and lecturers in Anatomy, Medicine, Surgery, Biochemistry, Obstetrics - 4 of the 5 Ophthalmologists at the Colombo Eye Hospital were Tamils in the 1960s - In 1971, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament - Mr Amirthalingam was a Tamil, whom the LTTE killed in his own house in Colombo in July 1989, after coming on a "bogus appointment" - So where then, is this discrimination?

In the early 1900s the British allowed one Sri Lankan to be appointed to the State Council. The Sinhalese and Tamils agreed on a Tamil being appointed, showing that, as commented in a local journal in 1899, "among the races in Ceylon, the existing relations are perhaps far more cordial than in any other British dependency in the east."

The "dignity and equality" of Tamils or Muslims was never a problem. Jobs went to those most suitable. Even in the far south, there were Tamils and Muslims living in dignity conducting their own businesses in which Sinhalese were employed, or Tamils and Muslims were employed by Sinhalese. Hindu Temples, Muslim Mosques, Buddhist Temples and Christian Churches stand side by side in the south - and they freely hold their own festivals throughout the year without any interruptions from the other races or casts.

Self Determination - The Tamils Say they want the right to rule. This is absurd in a country as small as Sri Lanka. Power devolution through provincial governments may work in a nation as big and populace as India, but it is totally unrealistic for a small nation like Sri Lanka. Next there will be the Muslims, Burghers, Malays, Pasis, Boras, Jahs and every other ethnic race in Sri Lanka demanding self governance.

Freedom Fighters - You can fight for freedom from foreign invaders or from apartheid oppressors like Mandela did in South Africa, you can also fight for freedom through political channels, but when you take up arms against a state that is an act of treason. When you use ethnic cleansing, genocide and mass-murder through indiscriminate bombings of civilian targets; that is usually regarded as acts of terrorism.

NOWHERE in the world have FREEDOM FIGHTERS, claiming to be the SOLE REPRESENTATIVE and SAVIOUR of its people, KILLED MORE of its OWN PEOPLE than the ENEMY. The LTTE have!

[ Tiger return will be prevented
Straits Times
May 26, 2009

COLOMBO (Sri Lanka) - SRI Lanka's military said it plans to enlist at least 100,000 more soldiers to head off any resurgence of the separatist Tamil Tigers, who were routed by government forces last week to end a quarter century of civil war.

The troop buildup comes amid concern that remnants of the rebel group living abroad may try to resurrect it under new leadership, army commander General Sarath Fonseka said in a television interview on Monday.

The army killed all of the rebels' front-line and second-level military leaders - including rebel chief Velupillai Prabhakaran - and destroyed the Tigers' political and administrative leadership, crippling the group, Gen Fonseka said.

Some 22,000 rebel fighters were killed in the last phase of fighting that started in 2006 and another 9,000 rebel fighters surrendered to the army, Gen Fonseka said.

Still, one prominent rebel leader remains at large - Selvarasa Pathmanathan, a smuggling mastermind sought by Interpol.

After killing the rebel leaders, soldiers are now going after a number of suicide bombers believed hiding in capital, Colombo, and other ethnic Sinhalese-majority towns. There are also smaller rebel teams in jungles, Gen Fonseka said.

Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon said the government would start with elections to the Jaffna and Vavuniya town councils. Both those areas lay just outside the de facto state the rebels had controlled in the north.

Jaffna is considered the cultural centre of the ethnic Tamil minority on whose behalf the Tamil Tigers fought.

Mr Tennakoon said these would be the first local elections in the area since 1998 and called them 'the first step toward ensuring the democratic rights of the people in the north'.

The elections commission will soon announce the date of the poll. AP ]

Current SLDF strength (350,000) + "at least" 100,000 troop increase ~ 500,000 man SLDF.

Do you believe that this is ONLY TO OPPOSE a resurgence of the LTTE insurgency?

No, it is to develop a SLDF that can defend the country against ALL Potential Future ENEMIES.

I hope the NATIONAL GUARD incorporating ALL ADULTS capable of bearing arms, that I had also recommended, IS NOT FAR BEHIND!

It was some other DW blogger's idea. I thought it was great, and I wrote it up with some enhancements and transmitted it to the GOSL about a month ago.

Issuance of Interest paying Bonds from the very outset will attract more investors. I hope this happens early in June; I would be happy to transfer some of my funds into GOSL Bonds. I am already investing in Sri Lanka stocks.

Sri Lanka Says "HELL NO" to LTTE offer to enter "Democratic Process"

[ Sri Lanka says no to Tigers' offer

UPI.com, Colombo
May 26, 2009

Sri Lankan Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has turned down the Tamil Tigers' offer to take the democratic route in their struggle.

Speaking to the BBC by telephone, Rajapaksa, a brother of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, said the Tigers, defeated recently by the Sri Lankan military, cannot be trusted to give up terrorism.

Earlier, Selvarasa Pathmanathan, senior spokesman for the defeated rebels, told the British network they were prepared to use non-violent means to achieve their goal of winning rights for the Tamil-speaking minority, and would be ready to pursue the democratic process.

"I do not believe the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam , the official name of the Tamil Tigers) can enter a democratic process after years of their violent activities," Rajapaksa told the BBC, adding other political parties could represent the Tamils.

Within what now remains of the LTTE, the Press Trust of India reported, a power struggle may be under way, with hardliners still claiming Vellupillai Prabhakaran, their leader who was reported dead by the Sri Lankan government, is still alive and safe.

The network said while Pathmanathan had called for a non-violent struggle, the TamilNet quoting another group led by LTTE's intelligence wing as claiming the leadership will "re-emerge when the right time comes."

The horror of the years-long military campaign against the rebels is evident in the hardships being endured by tens of thousands of civilians displaced by the fighting.

During a weekend visit to the island nation's refugee camps, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the refugee situation was the worst he'd witnessed and called it "most appalling." ]

Can one visualize a greater violation of International Law, International Humanitarian Law and the most basic tenets of decency and civilized conduct than the outrageous spectacle of the most powerful country on this earth [USA] together with countries such as the United Kingdom invading a significantly weaker sovereign State [Iraq] on the manifestly fraudulent pretext of there being in that country, "weapons of mass destruction"; subjecting its capital Baghdad to a non stop barrage of artillery and aerial bombing, 24 hours of the day for several continuous weeks, the fate of civilians in Baghdad notwithstanding; murdering over a million civilians of that Country and displacing over 4,700,000 in the last six years; torturing an unknown number of its citizens and hunting its Head of State [Sadam Hussein who ranked equal in every sense of the word with George Bush and Queen Elizabeth II among others] like a wild animal and lynching him after a trial by a Kangaroo Court ?? While it is quite possible that the inhuman conduct of these countries in murdering Afghans in Afghanistan willy nilly may possibly constitute a greater violation, that is a matter of purely academic interest because the foul perpetrators of both sets of abhorrent acts are the same.

However, there were no calls for an international investigation into those crimes against humanity or for the international prosecution of any personnel of the armed forces of those countries for war crimes. To the best of my knowledge neither the United Nations nor any of the so called "International Humanitarian Agencies" ever called for `unrestricted access’ or even plain and simple `access’ to even the horrendous `torture camp’ at Guantanamo Bay while they do call for such access to our camps in the North and East where the Government houses, feeds, clothes and looks after those displaced as a result of the terrorism of the LTTE.

Yet, to their eternal and indelible shame which will forever remain upon them like the mark of Cain, 17 Countries led by Germany [of `Holocaust Fame’], including some other Countries of the European Union, Canada and some of their hangers on seek to pillory and crucify Sri Lanka with an alleged international investigation for alleged `war crimes’ because poor little Sri Lanka, despite the numerous obstacles placed in its way by these foul hypocrites succeeded in destroying once and for all the the most virulent, cruel and powerful gang of terrorists the world has ever seen while the `leaders’ of the West continue to murder Iraqis in Iraq and Afghans in Afghanistan and vow to commit more such murders with no complaint from this malodorous `Gang of Seventeen’.

Their call for such investigation may, perhaps, have possibly merited some kind of consideration had there been even an infinitesimal trace of bona fides in their `call’. However, finding any trace of bona fides in their call can only be compared to finding feathers on a tortoise.

* when the LTTE murdered thousands of Tamil Civilians who did not obey them;

* when the LTTE kidnapped little Tamil children for use as cannon fodder and slave labour in their terrorist cadres;

* when the LTTE murdered Sinhalese and Muslim civilians en masse to effect the `ethnic cleansing’ of the North, East and the areas abutting those Provinces; or

* when the LTTE murdered about 674 Police Officers who laid down arms and surrendered to them.

CASC said...

The purported concern of these hypocrites about the condition of our IDP camps is equally devoid of bona fides for one did not hear a whimper of purported concern for the pitiful conditions of the `Refugee Camps’ in which Sinhalese and Muslim civilians were lodged after their homes and villages were attacked by the LTTE I can still remember the hillock just before Kebithigollawa Town where thousands of Sinhalese `Refugees’ [they were not called `IDPs’ then] barely `survived’ in cadjan shacks, as rude as they were small with hardly any of the facilities granted to the Tamil IDPs largely uncared for by those who now beat their breasts and parade their non-existent purported `humanitarian concerns’ about the Tamil IDPs.

Those who suffered as a result of LTTE terrorism and the Government’s necessary operations to eradicate that scourge may be divided into two categories:-

* Those such as the IDPs and the victims of bombs exploded by the LTTE in buses and crowded city centres; and,

* Those such as our troops who fought the LTTE and poor Sinhalese and Muslim villagers who refused to vacate their villages at the behest of the LTTE and resisted them.

While both classes suffered, and suffered greatly, the latter class alone contributed to the cleansing of the Country of the filth called the LTTE at the cost of life or limb. We now know that since July 2006, 6,261 troops sacrificed their lives and 29,551 shed their blood with over 1,000 sacrificing one or more limbs for the Country.

When it comes to providing relief, it is clearly this latter class that must take precedence but to the hypocritical foreigners in the Gang of Seventeen this is not so: to them, Sinhalese and Muslims do not matter: the sacrifices made by soldiers for the Country including sacrifices to save the Tamil Civilians and the attendant sufferings of the limbless and wounded soldiers and those whom the dead left behind are matters of no consequence: all that matters to them are the Tamil IDPs whom these troops saved. This kind of convoluted `thinking’ is quite consonant with their endeavours to pillory and crucify Sri Lanka while kowtowing to and following the dictates of their Master the USA, and its `poodle’, the United Kingdom, with no call for any investigation into their horrendous conduct.

Sri Lanka has faced and defeated with success, first the terrorism of the JVP and then, the terrorism of the LTTE. Now we are faced with the political and financial terrorism of a coterie of Countries led by the USA and the UK who have the arrogance to style themselves the `International Community’ !! We must not, we cannot, succumb to this vile terrorism. It now remains for all citizens of all races, castes, creeds and political opinion to unite and defeat these arrogant foreign terrorists

Sarath Kumara,

All this history is very interesting but we have to base our arguments on todays context.

The Tamil argument is that GOSL and the Sinhalese are doing the following:

1) Discriminating in many ways against the Tamils, in terms of language, education, job opportunities.

2) There have been pogroms against the Tamils in 1958 and 1983

3) Therefore, they say we cannot live in the same country with you and we demand a separate state.

No.1 we can debunk logically with evidence. Language issue solved. The discrimination has been against the Sinhalese. What Tamils don’t like is the removal of the privileges enjoyed by them.

2 & 3 provide a nice way for any ethnic group to claim a separate state. Go on pricking the majority until they retaliate and then claim there is genocide. Ask for a separate state.

We have to be simple and sweet. No separate state. period. try to learn to live with us. Othewise just get the hell out.

Anandasangaree demands the resignation of TNA MPs.

Hilary Rajakarunanayake, Editor – Sri Lanka, Asian Tribune

Colombo, 25 May, (Asiantribune.com): V. Anandasangaree, leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front has demanded the resignation of all Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MPs from Parliament for having represented the now defeated LTTE, locally and internationally.

"Such persons should no longer represent the Tamil community, and they should now resign and go home", he has told the media.

The Tamil National Alliance is the proxy political party of the LTTE. It was formed as an amalgamation of moderate Tamil political parties as well as a number of former rebel groups. The TNA Members contestred in the 2004 Parliamentary elections in the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchchi and subsequently they claimed themselves as Tamil National Alliance.

The TNA recognized the LTTE as the sole Tamil national entity that has the right to negotiate on behalf of the Tamil people with the Government of Sri Lanka.

Three of its sitting members of Parliament K. Sivanesan, Joseph Pararajasingham and Nadarajah Raviraj have been killed by the LTTE since 2006. The party had always supported negotiations with the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to resolve the civil war in Sri Lanka.

The TNA supported self-determination in an autonomous state for the island's Tamils.

The alliance fully supported the Interim Self Governing Authority (ISGA) proposal made by the LTTE. The TNA in general always facilitated the peace talks between the Government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE directly over the Tamil national problem.

Noting that the TNA has told an Indian delegation that was in Sri Lanka recently that it was agreeable for a political solution, the TULF leader Anandasangaree said such a stance by them previously could have saved the lives of all Tamils in the North.

Asked what the Tamil community has gained by the TNA acting as stooges of the LTTE, Anandasangaree vehemently replied, “Nothing”.

I believe every one knows where KP is. Some one of his calibre cannot hide. I mean, he can never hide in Malaysia or Singapore. Their intelligence agents would know exactly where to find him.

It is a matter of whether SL government really want him, and whether the other government really want to give us to him.
Now LTTE is gone, there is no reason for other governments to hide him any more. There is no real value of him.
LTTE has created lot of myths around them. That is why people are saying he is so great e.t.c.

There is no point of arms procurement when their is no one to fight on the ground.

If SL pushes, some one will hand him soon.

UN faces fierce clash over call for Sri Lanka war crimes inquiry

"Sri Lanka is to clash with Western powers at the United Nations Human Rights Council today in an effort to ward off any investigation into alleged war crimes committed during its military offensive against the Tamil Tigers.

The country has marshalled a team of powerful allies led by China, Russia and India to fight off a European-backed resolution at today’s special session on Sri Lanka calling for an inquiry into abuses on both sides of the conflict.

Observers at yesterday’s preliminary meeting in Geneva, which was described as acrimonious, said that the 47-member Council was divided over the European resolution, with 18 countries for and 18 against. The other nine are undecided. The division sets the stage for a session today that will test the very purpose of the Human Rights Council.

Israel, which had an investigation into its Gaza offensive forced on to it by the Council, is furious at the prospect of Sri Lanka escaping the same fate. The European resolution that Sri Lanka is aiming to defeat has already drawn the ire of human rights groups for failing to push for an international war crimes inquiry. It calls on the Sri Lanka Government to conduct its own investigation into breaches of international law and allow unfettered access to camps where more than 200,000 displaced Tamil civilians are detained.

Sri Lanka has submitted a counter-resolution, sponsored by at least 14 allies, in which it praises its own Government for liberating civilians and urges the international community to offer it more financial assistance.

The two competing agendas clashed in the preliminary meeting when an Asian bloc led by India, Pakistan and Malaysia argued for today’s special session to be abandoned altogether. India, China and Egypt walked out of the meeting after this was refused.wow!!

Sri Lanka goes into today’s meeting backed by powerful new allies such as China, which provided much of the military hardware for the final offensive that defeated the Tamil Tigers last week after a 25-year war. The Tigers formally acknowledged yesterday that their leader, Vellupillai Prabhakaran, was among the dead.

Several undecided countries, including Chile and Mexico, are pressing for a compromise resolution incorporating elements of both drafts. Whichever resolution makes it to a vote must be passed by a simple majority. Unlike on the UN Security Council, no country can veto a resolution. Observers said that the outcome was “still in play”, due in part, to the lack of independent assessments about the situation in Sri Lanka.

The Government’s decision to ban all journalists, aid workers and other independent observers from the conflict zone and restrict access to the camps where displaced Tamil civilians have been detained has meant that information about what happened has been slow to emerge. The Times was among the first small group of journalists to see the “no-fire zone” on Saturday while accompanying Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary-General, on a helicopter flight. Afterwards Mr Ban said that the sight was the most appalling scene he had come across in his long international career."

Israel in shocking move demands human rights probe on Lankaby Shamindra Ferdinando
by Shamindra Ferdinando

Sri Lanka has thwarted an Israeli proposal to send a combined UN and WHO team to investigate the conduct of the Sri Lankan security forces during the recently concluded offensive against the LTTE. The Mahinda Rajapaksa government is expectd to take up this issue with Tel Aviv.

Health Minister Nimal Siripala Silva told The Island that the move was made on May 18, the first day of the five-day meeting of the World Health Assembly held in Geneva at the WHO headquarters.

He said that the Israeli delegation had called for an immediate investigation after Sri Lanka received overwhelming backing to chair the conference. The Jewish State has said that Sri Lanka, too, should be subjected to an inspection similar to the one carried out in the Gaza Strip.

The Chief Government Whip said that Israel had failed to receive the backing of at least one other country.

Health Ministry spokesperson Wanninayake told The Island that there had been delegations from 192 countries. Opposing the Sri Lankan Health Minister’s appointment as the Chairman of the World Health Assembly, the Israeli delegation had said that Sri Lanka should face an international investigation, he said.

He said that Israel went to the extent of accusing Sri Lanka of indiscriminate military action and violations of human rights in the guise of fighting LTTE terrorism.

Minister Silva told The Island that nothing could be as ridiculous as Israel’s accusations.

The surprising move came hours before the Sri Lankan Army finished off what was left of the LTTE’s conventional fighting forces killing almost the entire leadership including LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

Sri Lanka re-established diplomatic relations with Israel shortly after the LTTE overran the strategic Elephant Pass base in April 2000.

A senior official told The Island that the Israeli move in Geneva surprised them all. Israel is one of the key suppliers of military hardware including Fast Attack Craft (FACs), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Kfir multi-role fighters and the recently introduced rockets which helped the Sri Lanka Navy to destroy many Sea Tiger craft in the northern waters. The rockets mounted on Inshore Patrol Craft (IPCs) helped the SLN to overwhelm Sea Tigers off the Mullaitivu coast. Sri Lankan security forces have been also benefited by Israeli expertise.

Wanninayake said that on the day Israeli government made its move hundreds of LTTE supporters had held a violent anti-Sri Lanka protest at the WHO premises.

A military official told The Island that Israel was always considered a friend. He said that successive Israeli governments had backed the military effort against the LTTE though Sri Lanka didn’t have diplomatic ties.

Foreign Secretary Dr. Palitha Kohona recently dismissed a British call to haul Sri Lankan political and military leadership before an international war crimes tribunal.

Sri Lanka must issue an national digital biometric ID card for all its citizens. This card must be required for everyone to be hired for any job in the country, whether in the public or private sector. No card, no job.

This card must only be given to Lankan citizens. Not to the Tamils that are supposed to be re patriated to India.

This will help weed out the illegal immigrants and get them shipped back to TN.

Chess Game
26 May, 2009 13:08:50

GENEVA, May 26, 2009 (AFP) - Asian and Western members of the UN Human Rights Council failed to find a common voice on the situation in Sri Lanka before they were due to hold a special session on the issue Tuesday.

Switzerland, with the support of about 30 mainly Western states, has tabled a draft resolution calling on Colombo to "investigate all allegations" of human rights abuses during Asia's longest-running civil war between the Sri Lanka army and the rebel Tamil Tigers.

….
However, another draft text tabled by countries including China, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka "commends" Colombo's actions in dealing with internally displaced people, and encouraged UN agencies to continue cooperating with the Sri Lankan government.
Sri Lanka's allies did not mention any possible probe.

….
Diplomats were meanwhile scrambling to find a consensus on the two texts.
If a compromise is not found, Sri Lanka's draft resolution would be submitted for adoption by the Council since it was tabled before the Swiss version.

The UN's high commissioner for human rights has called for an independent investigation into alleged atrocities by both sides in Sri Lanka's civil war.

….
The BBC's Imogen Foulkes in Geneva says it appears that the widespread allegations of violations are not being seriously addressed at the meeting, much to the frustration of rights groups and Ms Pillay.
The end result of the session is likely to be a bland and consensual resolution which does not demand much action from anyone, says our correspondent.

STATEMENT BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS
COUNCIL, AMBASSADOR MARTIN IHOEGHIAN UHOMOIBHI,
ON THE OCCASION OF THE 11TH SPECIAL SESSION
OF THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL, ENTITLED
"THE SITUATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS
IN SRI LANKA"

As we meet here today in a Special Session on the Human Rights Situation in Sri Lanka, once again the Human Rights Council signals its readiness to contribute to promoting and protecting human rights in all parts of the world. This is right and is consistent with the mandate of the Council.

However, I believe no one in this hall is unaware of the long history of the needless conflict that has ravaged the nation of Sri Lanka for the past two and a half decades and more. In the course of this conflict, thousands of innocent lives have been wasted and millions of people suffered untold hardships. We commiserate with the civilian population, particularly the most vulnerable segments of the population, who borne the brunt of the war. Mercifully, so to speak, today as we meet, the guns have gone silent in Sri Lanka, hopefully forever. The dawn of peace which appears to be beginning is most welcome. It is hoped that, in the next days and months, the important tasks of rehabilitation, reconciliation and reconstruction will begin and pave the way for sustainable peace and development in the country. I could not agree more with the United Nations Secretary-General who, in his recent visit to Sri Lanka, stated that it is imperative now to find a lasting political solution to the situation in the country, while addressing the aspirations and grievances of all concerned.

The Human Rights Council, convening this session today, joins in sending a message of readiness and willingness to work with the Government and people of Sri Lanka to address the most urgent humanitarian and human rights challenges facing them. As the Human Rights Council, this should be our focus and objective. I wish, therefore, to call on all delegations present at this meeting to work together in an open and constructive manner in the conduct of debate, discussions and negotiations. As I have underscored on previous occasions, no useful purpose can be served if we do not invest our efforts on addressing the needs of the victims. And the way by which this is best achieved is through dialogue, conducted in an atmosphere of respect and dignity for all sides and opinions.

[ Does it make make any sense of Having 500,000 ppl in the army, if the country policies doesn't allow them to protect the country.?]

Bro,

I was a bit confused by your post until I read your statement regarding internal traitors.

The purpose of a large SLDF, and an even larger part-time National Guard, is DETERRENCE against INTERNAL & EXTERNAL enemies in the future.

Yes, any GOSL that fails to defend the country and confines the SLDF to its barracks is failing its DUTY to DEFEND & PROTECT.

The current GOSL has done EVERYTHING it can, and has SUCCEEDED in DEFENDING and PROTECTING.

Since it is the CITIZENS of the country who ELECT governments, the fault is theirs if they FAIL to give sufficient PRIORIOTY to DEFENCE, and don't hold the ELECTED govt ACCOUNTABLE.

I think the people of Sri Lanka understand this NOW at the grass roots level.

Regarding PROSECUTING internal traitors before they RISE AGAIN; that must be done ACCORDING TO THE LAWS OF THE LAND, as soon as we solve the country's IMMEDIATE IDP, diplomatic, and economic problems.

Western countries openly declare war against Sri Lanka aspirations of unity and peace. We need to investigate why these countries are suddenly turning 180 degrees to their last stand on terrorism. Most of these countries were grave violators of human rights not so long ago and some still continue to do so.

Then why there is sudden overwhelming sympathy for Tamil cause and unbearable anger about human right violations in Sri Lanka?

The maritime routes of the Indian Ocean through which about 70% of total world traffic of petroleum products passes and half of the world’s container traffic also go through or close to Sri Lankan waters making Sri Lanka is important to dictating economies of the world.

USA has succeeded in bringing NATO up to the Persian Gulf region. In 2007, NATO conducted its first-ever naval exercise in the Indian Ocean with the help of Pakistan. The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen told a US Congressional hearing on Thursday, “Where I see NATO going is increasingly towards a broader and more in-depth relationship with Pakistan, because of the common interests” but it is Sri Lanka that will be the jewel in NATO’s Indian Ocean crown. Russia, China and Iran are determined to frustrate the US geostrategy.

Present USA administration wants show the world that they have Jimmy Carter policies while adopting international chess games for upper hand in trade and economy.

Together with European backing US is trying hard to bully Sri Lanka to reject its new found partnership with Russia, China, India and Iran.

If this is what US and its allies want, then charges of human right violation in UN is not good enough, they have to do lot more to prevent Sri Lanka being the cohesive force to bind Asian powers together.

If present US and UK governments try and prosecute individuals including George Bush and Tony Blair who have violated every known human rights not so long ago; they may claim they have right to try Sri Lanka but not before.

First show to the whole world all skeletons in your cupboards before asking others to open theirs!

Yet, obviously, there are three things that need to be verified before we can start the process of apportioning blame, blame that will stick given the small size of Sri Lanka, as opposed to blame that wafts away on a breezy apology, which we have seen in more brutal conflicts in recent days.

First, are the figures of dead and injured accurate?

Second, are they all attributable to the Sri Lankan forces, or might some of them at least have been inflicted by the LTTE?

Third, are all those who died or were injured civilians?”

what a TAMIL RACIST suck-kill-ayya this ASS (ananda singari) is????

TAMIL RACIST VIEW 1
"V Anandasangaree, leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF), a party which in 1976 adopted a resolution for a separate state, agreed. In an interview with Asia Times Online, Anandasangaree, a former parliamentarian for Kilinochchi, not so long ago the capital of the de facto state the LTTE had set up in the Wanni region, said that new problems had cropped up over the years.

has this racist political party leader declared he divorces from this 1976 crap??? NO!

TAMIL RACIST VIEW 2
He noted that the same Sinhala nationalist voices which gave rise to violent Tamil nationalism were once again active. "If they are true patriots, the greatest contribution they could make to Sri Lanka is to keep their mouths shut," said Anandasangaree,

oh! no ASS. this is not tamil madu, this is sri lanka where there is something called DEMOCRACY!!

TAMIL RACIST VIEW 3
He was obviously referring to calls by some Sinhala nationalists to set up Sinhala colonies in Tamil areas as a means to defeat Tamil separatism.

so just like all other tamil racists, ASS (the TAMIL united liberation party leader) also wants a TAMIL ONLY MONOETHNIC north-east

TAMIL RACIST VIEW 4
Anandasangaree said the only way forward was the introduction of a power-devolution system based on the Indian model. "The Indian model is a big success. It has silenced the voices that raised the cry of a separate state in Tamil Nadu state in the 1960s. It will work here, too," he said

MY ARSE!!! look at tamil madu ASS. those jokers actively supported the LTTE. jayalalitha was defeated but MILLIONS voted for her tamil elam promise. the ASS CLOWN who won is no better. he caused SO MUCH trouble for india & SL. we don't want that crap here.

TAMIL RACIST VIEW 5
"When the president said in his victory speech in parliament on Tuesday that there are no minorities in Sri Lanka today, he was speaking from his heart. I am confident, he will offer a solution that meets the Tamil aspiration," he said.

what an IDIOT is ASS. why is he still think in terms of majority/minority, sinhala/tamil???he didn't get what the president said.

TAMIL RACIST VIEW 6
Anandasangaree says the president is so popular now that he could sell any devolution proposal to the Sinhala masses.

dear ASS, so you think the "sinhala masses" are asses like you to BUY ANYTHING. kiss my dick ASS!!

this is a peaceful tamil racist tamil elamist in action with CHEAP tricks. his TAMIL MADU model will NEVER work here.

Human rights violation charges originated from west is directed at LTTE and SLG. At present no LTTE to charge. Therefore west’s only aim is to punish SLG and SLDF.

The out come of the special session can be foretold easily, the EU won’t get anywhere. It had better chance of approaching International Criminal Court based in Hague. But then Sri Lanka is not a signatory state. However, IC can get the UN Security Council to refer the case to ICC, in such a case ICC can summon a non-signatory state but then China or Russia can wield veto power to nullify the effect.

MR,

I am quoting some text below to make my point about Hu-- Malli.

Last Saturday the Mahanayake Theras of the Malwatte and the Asgiriya Chapters conferred on you the highest title for exemplary and heroic leadership. This title has not been given to any previous head of state or government in Sri Lanka. On Sunday you were lifted even higher at the Sri Maha Bodiya in Anuradhapura. The Chief Prelate there congratulations to mark the defeat of the LTTE and the end of the war. These included gave you an honour which had previously been given only to the great kings of Sri Lanka.

The unprecedented religious honours came after a week of celebrations and your throne speech from parliament where you formally made the victory announcement to the nation. You declared that, in future, there would be no majority and minority communities in Sri Lanka but only two categories – those who love the country and those who do not love the country.

H---Malli seems to be ticked off about titles conferred by Buddhist prelates in Asgiri-Malwatu Templs as well as Sri Maha Bodhi. What this despicable man did not see is that the honor war accorded to our defence chiefs as well. Yes, that includes our great Christian patriot Air Marshal Roshan Gunathilake. In this MOD photo you can see that he does not worship prelates. That is perfectly acceptable to every Sri Lankan since he is a Christian. Regardless, we want to honor this great son of Mother Lanka who turned the tied of the war with great military leadership.

Then this despicable man goes on preaching with following end statement.

According to most independent analysts, the victory over the LTTE is only a curtain drop. Not the end of the drama of the unfolding historical play in Sri Lanka.

.......

If the next scene ignores this reality, and in the process denies justice to the Tamil speaking people, then the following scenes, and eventually history, will be quite different. We should remember that today’s story is tomorrow’s history.A monster, several times worse than the LTTE, might emerge from the killing fields of the Wanni, and history books of 50 years from now or perhaps certainly 100 years may will be written.
In summary, he is ticked off that Buddhist prelates accorded the president with highest honors. Then he preaches. Then he says that this is not over, lets wait and see how a monster several folds worse than Prabakaran is going to destroy Sri Lanka.

While he is trying to ridicule the honors accorded by Buddhist prelates, he tries to ridicule the unrivaled historical achievement of our president. This is a clear display of hostility towards majority in Sri Lanka. This despicable man shall be reminded that the majority's patience to let this kind of badmouthing go unchecked may run out one day.

[Lessons From the Tiger Defeat]
By Christian Caryl
May 23, 2009

Can insurgencies be crushed by purely military means? Many counterinsurgency -theorists doubt it, arguing that guerrilla wars are won and lost primarily on the political front. It will be interesting, then, to see what conclusions they draw from the dramatic end of Sri Lanka's brutal civil war against the Tamil Tigers.

Last week the Tigers admitted defeat in their two-and-a-half-decade insurgency after the death of their leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran, at the hands of the military. Sri Lanka's strategy relied on a few key tactics. First, the government created heavily armed village militias to protect civilians—mostly civilians who belonged to the majority ethnic Sinhalese population. Second, whenever it cleared an area of rebels, it quickly moved in enough professional soldiers to hold the ground. Third, Colombo used highly trained commandos to snoop out guerrilla bases deep in the jungle, where they used GPS to call in airstrikes. Many of these tactics are replicable elsewhere—in fact, they should sound especially familiar to Central Command chief Gen. David -Petraeus, whose military surge in Iraq relied on just such techniques.

But other parts of Sri Lanka's victory will prove harder to replicate. Tim Fish of Jane's Defence Weekly in London says that the government's naval blockade, which cut off the Tigers' seaborne supply lines, proved critically important. But in places like Afghanistan, choking reinforcements is proving impossible due to a notoriously -porous 2,575-kilometer border with Pakistan's lawless tribal areas. The Sri Lankan military also relied on a strong central government—a stark contrast to the weak authorities in Baghdad and -Kabul. What's more, as the war dragged on, Sri Lanka's people, of whom only 11 percent are Tamil, agreed to tolerate the suspension of some civil rights, such as placing Tamil refugees in temporary holding camps to screen fighters from civilians. Worse, critics claim that the government's indiscriminate use of artillery and air power in the final phases of the campaign likely led to huge civilian casualties. It's hard to imagine Washington blessing a similar approach in Baghdad or Kabul—nor should it.

If anything, Sri Lanka's hard-fought win probably underscores just how long it actually takes to win a counterinsurgency—the government needed 26 years to defeat the fanatical Tigers. By that measure, America's wars against its insurgent enemies have only just gotten started.

Karuna is former deputy to VP and a most ruthless killer of religious people from both Sinhalese and Muslim community. He is alleged to have killed large number police personal who surrendered to LTTE during notorious peace accord period. He is also responsible for hacking to death of scores of innocent villagers in Menik, Ken and Dollar farms.

It is good time now MR or GR asked him not to interfere with security measures taken by SLA and police.

Further on Karuna:

Karuna believed in Tamil ealam and fought with other ealamists to achieve it. He only crossed over when his life was threatened by VP and others with corruption charges.

Later he has given reason as VP not going ahead with political solution and treating north and east Tamils equally etc. I do not believe his reasons are noble as such.

He is an opportunist and could turn to any side for personal gain. He also may have an agenda for separate state later by peaceful means.

I hope MR, GR and SF have fair assessment on him and check his moves closely for the sake of our national security. The victory we won after sacrificing thousands of brave hearts is not be jeopardised because of ambition to have speedy reconciliation.

Moshe Dyan said...

peaceatlast,

broadly agree that karuna should be kept out of national security matters ONLY.

but karuna did NOT "cross over" after his life was threatened.

it actually happened MUCH earlier. sorry, cannot reveal much. a certain powerful "political" group (yes, a political one) had an "understanding" with karuna since early 2000.

in march 2004 he was unable to SAFELY do what the understanding required him to do.

if he waited till 2004 to defect, his fate would have been no different to others who defected!!!!

he was the BEST military mind the LTTE had. as a good military man, he always knew how to save his arse from the SLDFs, LTTE and even from britain.

and that is why we should be careful of him. he knows the amount of money in the LTTE and he knows that the LTTE is without a leader.

I think Moshe has a point to keep these "seasoned journeymen" on check because they could morph into real thorns later on. We need to have a "MOSSAD" like force to keep a tab on the interior and the exterior - of course NIB may be doing it now.

What’s sick about this is that the British establishment destroyed the Sinhalese people completely. Completely and purposely, sadistically. Stole their land, humiliated and massacred their government, made it Imperial policy to erase every shred of self-respect the Sinhalese had left. You can talk about the Nazis all day long, but for my money nothing they did was as gross as what you find out when you actually look into the history of British-Sinhalese relations. If you can even call them “relations”; I guess a murder-rape is a relation, sort of.

You see why I get impatient with you gullible suckers yammering about the fucking Nazis? The Nazis were retards, a white-trash tantrum, an eighth-grade chem-class pipe bomb, a quick-fizzle flash in the pan, compared to the Brits, the scariest motherfuckers ever to butt-fuck the planet.

.....................
Destroying Buddhism was a big part of Brit policy. The Buddhist routine, the temples, begging monks, long boring prayers–it was the glue that kept Kandy together. So the Brits decided to destroy it. They even said so, in private memos to each other. They weren’t shy in them days. Here’s the Brit governor in 1807: “Reliance on Buddhism must be destroyed. Make sure all [village] chiefs are Christian.”

.......................
And they did it. Worked so well it’s still working today. And when they were done totally destroying the poor Sinhalese, the Brits did what they do best, better than any other murder gang on the planet: they took that amnesia zapper from Men in Black and zapped everyone in Sri Lanka, then turned it on themselves and were suddenly so innocent, so damn virtuous and clean, that a pig like Mister Jeremy Brown can actually sit down at a computer and boast about all the wonderful times England has raped Sri Lanka, from olden times right down to Arthur C. Clarke buggering every little boy on the island. Heckuva job, Brownie! Satan himself is shaking his head, muttering, “Gotta give it to the fuckin’ limeys, damn it….they got no shame at all, ya gotta admire that. Damn, even I wouldn’t have had the gall to talk like that Jeremy Brown. I’m putting him down for CEO of the Hell Propagandastaffel the minute his liver packs up and he lands down here.”

Hemantha wrote about Jayantha Dhanapala being anti-war:

IMHO Jayantha Dhanapala is one of the finest diplomats produced by Sri Lanka. He would be ideal to counteract the UN and also those countries that are using the UN as front.

We need to get over the "War Mentality" now and depend on professionals to do professional jobs. For example, President Barak Obama opted for Robert Gates from the Bush Administration to stay on with his administration. I am sure Jayantha Dhanapala would not compromise interests of Mother Lanka whatever his personal preferences are.

At the same time, I will not degrade Dr. Dayan Jayatilleke but given his abrasive posture, he may not be welcome to certain countries who we need even if they hurt our interests.

I am nobody in Sri Lanka. The President will not give two hoots to what I say but if I were the President of Sri Lanka, then I would have a few of my critics as my closest advisers. Having a person of the caliber of Jayantha Dhanapala as FM would not hurt Sri Lanka.

Corect me if I am wrong. My understanding from what i read everywhere is that SL played an expert game and it is impossible to have a defeat in UNHRC because

(a) What the western booruwas can now do is to get a comrpromise decision between the resolution backing SL and resolution against Sri Lanka. So if it is only a compromise it cannot be totally against SL.

(b) If they cannot reach a compromise they will have to vote on the first resolution. As backers of SL has managed to get their draft resolution in first the members have to vote on that and discard the one that is against as it came later. If/when they vote the one that backs SL is defeated in the vote it is square one for the west and a minor defeat without repurcussion for SL.

Life is sweet haha

From what I have seen in Sri Lanka, UN is the worst violator of this with INGO's following close behind. They swoop in in their 4 wheel drive huge SUV's sending dust all over and for everyone to breathe- except them.

Poor refuges, victims of natural disaster get a free dose of dust, while the UN/INGO get back in to their luxury SUV and drive off again. This whole set up is a good employment generator for western INGO.

BTW, hwo the hell did that Tamil racist Gas bag Navi Pillay get elected to her post. Still no answer to why she picked up the csualty figures from the LTTE mouth piece Tamil nut.

West accused of double standards during UNHRC session
The countries of the non-aligned movement (except Chili) the African group and the Organization of Islamic countries today alleged that the move to call a special UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) session on Sri Lanka, showed the double standards of the West when probing human rights violations.
“We hope that the UNHRC would also put equal emphasis to other conflicts in Asia or the middle east, where the US army drone hit 2% of their targets with a rate of 98% of collared loses,” the Algerian Envoy to the UNHRC said today.
“This showed that this special session was distorted by double standards which hinders its universality,” he added

It is a pity that GSL is going begging to the UN for aid. Why does it not ask the expatriates to invest in the country and facilitate that process instead?

Any resolution (if passed) to provide Humanitarian Aid to Sri Lanka must be associated with Humanitarian Agencies chosen by the GSL and preferably by arms of the Government itself.

All this has happened because of permitting these f^@#ing monkeys to go around the World bad-mouthing SL. This must never happen again. Any one bad mouthing SL (with malice) must be prosecuted for treason if they are SL citizens and not permitted to enter the country if they are foreigners.

There has to be line drawn in the sand from now on.

About comments made on Karuna by some of our bloggers :

First time I heard about 'getting rid of' Karuna argument in a patriot blog was by a blogger named Miss-Information. I suspected that person as one having ulterior motives. Infact, the person later turned out to be a pro ltte nut. So let's be careful. Karuna's importance will be more cruicial in future when we have to win the heart and minds of the tamils in North-East and fend of ealamists in elections etc.

pro-LTTE ppl know karuna has no chance in re joining with them again, that's why they need to eliminate him.

So let's be careful guys. I think it's time we should build bridges with ppl with slightly different ideas than us if we agree on basics.

If we can't tolerate even Karuna, where can we find moderate enough tamils for us to agree with.

I think Karuna has done a great job so far and we should be thinking of how to get best out of him in future too.

Ashoka: "Karuna's importance will be more cruicial in future when we have to win the heart and minds of the tamils in North-East and fend of ealamists in elections etc."

I completely disagree on this. Majority of the Tamils, even the most moderate, see Karuna as a traitor. This will not help govt of SL win the hearts and minds of the common Tamil. Most Tamils would rather have a 'good' sinhalese MP than Karuna take care of them. I think winning the hearts and minds of Tamils is very easy, it's just going to take matter of time and making some wise choices in the way forward. We do not need to differentiate between Tamil, Sinhala or Muslim. We just need good politians who can carry on their duty, provide much needed assistance to the North and East, take care of the 300,000 displaced and give jobs to the young. This is the secret to winning the hearts and minds of both the diasporah Tamils as well as the local Tamil. I am confident if we follow this plan, there won't be no Tamil, Sinhala or Muslim devide in 10 years time, we will all be seen as proud Sri Lankans

Army lieutenant tried to assassinate President

By Gayan Kumara Weerasingha

The LTTE has now been completely defeated but we still have traitors amidst us. On 14 May, the State Intelligence Service (SIS) achieved a major victory by dismantling an LTTE terror network centered in Colombo by arresting ‘Giri’, a Tiger intelligence leader, after an extensive investigation.
Giri is said to be the mastermind behind many LTTE attacks in and around Colombo during the recent past. He was also assigned the task of planning and executing the assassinations of the president, prime minister and defence secretary. Giri was apprehended in Colombo and was detained at a special division of the SIS. During interrogation, SIS officers unearthed many secrets, the main being two separate plots to assassinate President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The first of these attempts was to take palce on 20 December last year at the Diyatalawa military base when the president attended a passing out ceremony of army recruits. Giri had succeeded in infiltrating a suicide bomber and an explosives laden jacket into the military base a few days prior to the ceremony. This plot failed because the presidential security division and the army conducted an extensive search of the entire base the day prior to the ceremony.
At Deyata Kirula
The next attempt was to be made on 4 April this year. This was targetting the Deyata Kirula exhibition held at the BMICH. This plot also failed because of the heavy security around the exhibition site.
What shocked intelligence officers the most was when Giri revealed the names of those who had been contracted to handle both plots.
The man behind the plots according to Giri was a lieutenant colonel serving in the army at the transit camp in Ratmalana. This transit camp is used to house soldiers arriving by air on leave from the north and by those returning to duty after their leave was up. The lieutenant colonel had been tasked with smuggling the suicide bomber to his target without any checking at all. He had transported the LTTE suicide bomber to the Diyatalawa military base to carry out the first assassination attempt, and had kept the bomber at one of the official residences inside the camp.
The same lieutenant colonel had also taken a suicide bomber to the BMICH during the Deyata Kirula exhibition, the bomber dressed in a soldier’s uniform.
On that day, army personnel who were entering the BMICH grounds for the Deyata Kirula exhibition had to enter through gate number 4. ASP Muditha Pussella was the officer in charge of the security at this gate. Senior DIG M K Illangakoon and Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka, who were in overall charge of security for the exhibition, had left clear instructions with the ASP that those below the rank of brigadier of the army, SSP of the police, Commodore of the navy and Air Commodore of the air force were not to be allowed into the grounds from the time the president entered the exhibition grounds upto the time he left.
The lieutenant colonel had tried to enter the exhibition grounds in his official vehicle. The suicide bomber in army uniform was also inside the same vehicle. However, he was not allowed in as his rank was below brigadier. If ASP Muditha Pussella had not carried out orders to the letter that day, the planned suicide attack targeting the president would have been successful.

After Giri made these revelations, officers of the SIS arrested the army lieutenant colonel at his residence in Diyatalawa. The officer is a 41 year old Sinhalese. He is fluent in Tamil and had served in Jaffna as a military intelligence officer and had also been attached to the Special Forces. He had also served in the humanitarian operations in the north as a commanding officer. Intelligence officers questioned the suspect at length to establish the extent of his connections with the LTTE.
Connections
The officer had first established connections with the LTTE around 3 years ago, after he met an LTTE agent who posed as a Muslim, at a Colombo casino.
The lieutenant colonel who was a gambler had lost heavily at a casino and was helped by a man named Aslam, who paid Rs.25, 000 owed by the army officer and invited him to gamble again. This had led to a close bond developing between the two. It was after some time that the colonel found out that Aslam was in fact an LTTE agent posing as a businessman. However, by this time, the colonel was already heavily in debt and could not ease the the hold Aslam had on him.
Aslam had gone overseas sometime later. However, he had placed Giri under the lieutenant colonel’s care which led to the officer being involved in the plot to assassinate the president.
Acting on information received, the SIS was able to arrest many LTTE operatives in Colombo.
A number of suicide cadres are also said to be among those who have been arrested.
On information given by Giri, SIS officers also raided the LTTE’s main operations centre located on the 7th floor of a condominium named Sunflower Court in Wellawatta on 14 May and found a man and three women inside the flat. On seeing the officers, the man ran to the balcony and committed suicide by throwing himself off it -- carrying the many secrets he had with him to the grave.
Subsequent investigations revealed that he was an LTTE explosives expert named Thamodarampillai Subeendran who had a degree in civil engineering from the University of Moratuwa. He had posed as a managing director of a firm.
The women have been identified as his mother, his sister and a woman who was living there on rent. Having taking the three women into their custody, intelligence officers conducted a thorough search of the flat and found a stock of arms hidden inside a secret compartment in the ceiling. Among the items recovered were 4 suicide jackets, 6 remote controls used to trigger off bombs, and a large number of documents. The suicide jackets were to be used during the planned assassinations of the president, prime minister and defence secretary

Eelam Virus

by Sebastian Rasalingam,
Toronto Canada

Thousands of protesters gather on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, to ask for the Canadian government to intervene in what they are calling a genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka . (AP)

I have cringed with pain and clutched my head in anguish, watching my grand children’s friends in Scarborough , Ontario , going out, with their friends, to join protest marches in the streets of Toronto . These young people are given the Tiger flag which is an insult to the best traditions of Hindu society or the Christian values taught by the prince of peace.
Â
These young people shout slogans and talk of the genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka . Most of them actually believe that they are doing the "right thing". They think they are demonstrating for a "just cause". They think "Our people are being shelled, bombed. Those who escape are locked away in concentration camps and probably gassed like in Auschwitz . We have to pressure the Canadian government to demand an immediate ceasefire". They have seen movies and videos showing exactly that, and they need no other proof. After all, "there are young Tamils immolating themselves in London and Geneva . So all this must be true. Every Tamil grocery has these newspapers telling what is going on". Oh, what a delusion!

These slogan shouting people take me back to another era. In the 1950s, when we were relatively young, the political demonstrations launched by the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Kadchi were an attractive line of political action. I certainly felt that "Sinhala ONLY" was utterly unfair by us Tamils. But then, I somehow felt that the cry for "driving out the invaders from the Tamil homelands" was a dangerously racist, extremist cry. I went to live in Hatton and then Colombo .
Â
The society that I found in the Sinhalese areas was much more just and equitable than the social ethos of Jaffna and Mannar that I had already seen. The Tamils in Colombo had a dominant position in commerce, banking, professions and every walk of life. I felt that we, too, could easily prosper in Sri Lanka , even with Sinhala only or virtually no Tamil, just as the Jews have done in New York , with no Yiddish recognized as a national language.
Â
I  began to understand the evilness of individuals like S. J. V. Chelvanayagam and E. M. V. Naganathan. The latter’s pride in announcing that he was a descendant of the Chola aristocracy was particularly repugnant to me as I had seen the hard side of the Manu Dharma. Why didn’t the Tamil leaders support the socialists who supported "Parity of Status" for the two languages? Why are the Tamil leaders living in Colombo instead of relocating to the "Traditional homelands"? Would the Tamils in the North and the East be able to settle down in the south if the "Tamil homelands" policy were achieved? Would the Tamils living in the south be deported to the North if Arasu were achieved? Surely, Sinhalese discrimination against Tamils is nothing compared to what I and my wife, an estate Tamil, had to face within the Tamil society.

CASC said...

con't

I could doubt the political programme that was gaining ground among the Tamils because I happened to be an educated low-caste Tamil with Estate-Tamil connections. The Tamil politicians worked very hard to polarize the people and drive a wedge between the two ethnic groups. The Arasu Kadchi people were actually happy that the Banda-Chelva accord was torn asunder.. Ethnic division was necessary for creating the exclusive "Tamil homelands" Given such an inflammatory extra-parliamentary objective, the final struggle had to be war.

Looking at the young men going out to demonstrate in the streets of Toronto , I see them as just a continuation of the delusion initiated by the Chelvanayagams and Naganathans, already in 1949. Communist intellectuals and their young student activists blindly supported Stalin even when overwhelming evidence was presented to show that Stalin was a mass murderer. Today, the Tamil Diaspora is similarly blinded by its own beliefs and fails to accept the truth.

Instead of joining with the Sri Lankan government to defeat and decapitate Prabhakaran, instead of coming forward to help the displaced Tamils, the LTTE-conscripted children, and hostages who have managed to flee, the Diaspora is waving the Tiger flag. If 10,000 Tamils all over the world demonstrated for a week, even at the minimum wage of $8 per hour, this is a capital investment of over $6 million dollars totally wasted. According to Jane’s Intelligence, if we aggregate the collection made from the Diaspora over two decades, there is enough money to pension all the Sri Lankan Tamils, 3 million or more, at a standard of living never dreamed of. Instead, we used that money to supply the Tigers with claymore bombs, RPGs, AK-47s and the likes. Even the Tsunami aid was diverted for war. Meanwhile we created a Mafia to plague us.

Is there NO LIMIT to hate based on this "Eelam Virus"?

The IDP camps in Vavniya are far better than the IDP camps in India . The Diaspora has not risen to help our Tamils in the IDP camps in Sri Lanka or India .. Instead, it chooses to wave Tiger flags in western capitals and use political blackmail by "fasting unto death", immolation and such undemocratic methods.

The Tamil Diaspora has to cure itself of the Eelam Virus. Then and then only can it help the Tamils.

Very interesting to read a bit of your presentation though I am v.Busey to read all of it. I too noticed it that the terrorists are trying to get at Mr and the top personal of the ST.I too noticed a high ranking SP parked his car in car park very closed to a premises where the MR was though there was a restriction and his was forced out buy us by appealing to DIG Medivaka (truly a professional well respected person in Kandy) This seems to pull rank on the cops on duty there and the plainclothes guys were scared to report the matter and we had to do it our self.
Then on the 27th of Jan ’08 a brother of an Army Col brought in a truck to the same spot while the 5 cops on duty were just standing and looking while our security beat up the accompanying thugs who were army deserters were severely beaten by our guys and the local mob and the cops were trying to charge our guys with assault.
Perhaps this is the same Col on the pay roll of the terrorists. That day MR was in town.
I am glad the forces are going after the terrorists in the East and they must also search the jungles in between Mathale and Ratthota where when we were there in Aust or Spt the locals said they were movements in small group boarding vehicles have mentioned this several times in the bogs.

in a joint statement with Pax Romana and Dominicans for Justice and Peace, said the fighting between the Sri Lankan armed forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam had led to the death of more than 6,400 civilians, and had left 13,000 wounded and more than 230,000 displaced since January 2009. These were only estimates, as no independent monitor – including humanitarian organizations, journalists and human rights defenders – had been allowed into the conflict affected areas. Internally displaced persons affected by the conflict continued to suffer; the infringement of their right to food, water, health and freedom of movement would continue to be a major problem due to the dire conditions inside Government camps. In addition, the condition of those working for human rights inside and outside the conflict zone served as a good example of why this Council must act strongly today.

The United Nations
Human Rights Council adopted Wednesday a resolution which praised the government of Sri Lanka for its commitment to human rights, while condemning the Tamil Tiger rebels. The resolution, tabled by Sri Lanka itself and other nations, including China, Cuba and Egypt, also allows the government to let aid agencies' have access to camps for the internally displaced "as may be appropriate."

A bloc of Western nations, whose counter proposal was defeated, wanted full access for aid groups like the International Committee of the Red Cross and UN agencies.

They also wanted an investigation into alleged human rights violations during the fighting.

Over 250,000 people are internally displaced in Sri Lanka from the fighting between the rebels and the government, which recently ended. Aid groups say they have only limited access to the displaced.

I feel sorry for these western guys. First they got snubbed by a small but sane third world country when they tried to stop the war.

Then they were told by many countries to practice before preaching.

Now a shameful loss in the full limelight in the UNHCR.

It is likely that after this Sri Lanka episode entire world will ignore the 'bana preaching' by the west. World politics will not be the same from now onwards. Guys I think our country has changed the world order.

ABOUT NGO's

Ref: Strategypage.com

Total losses for nearly 30 years of violence are about 80,000. The UN, and the NGO (non-governmental organization) aid community are calling for war crimes changes to be brought against Sri Lankan leaders. The NGOs claim that the government did not do enough to avoid hitting the Tamil civilians the LTTE were using as human shields. This is a smoke screen, to help protect the UN and other NGOs from charges that they aided the LTTE and helped prolong the war. This is becoming a growing problem, as the NGO workers seek to make their own lives easier by getting cozy with whatever warlord is in control where the NGOs are employed. These relief operations are careers for many of the NGO personnel, and an adventure for the shorter term workers. But the NGO staff don't want to get killed doing good works, so there is a growing trend to make a discreet deal with the devil, in order to get some protection in a war zone.

The NGOs survive by providing reliable (especially compared to corrupt, or nonexistent, governments in disaster areas) distribution of foreign aid and charity. Since World War II, the NGOs have established themselves as a powerful economic and political force, and a career path for thousands of men and women (mostly from the West). But the early idealism has been corrupted, and NGOs often become part of the problem. The LTTE knew how to play the NGOs, and did so expertly to make the NGOs an integral part of the LTTE governmental machine. Now those NGO are trying to escape culpability for that, and accusing the government of war crimes is one part of that plan.

Folks,

It is a time to be extremely vigilant for conspiracies against MR.

When Sirimavo B. nationalised Caltex & Tea Estates, these same conspirators brought forth JR the thug. Sirimavo B. was stripped of her civic rights and country was turned into a land of thugs.

We are in a similar situation today.

RW, though pansy looking, is as dangerous as JR.

People must join hand aginst these neo colonial aggressions.

Milband Monkey is carrying LTTE flag to please his party MPs who are dependent on Pro-LTTE votes in their constitutions.

Milband Monkey (Labour Party) thinks Simon Hughes (Liberal Democrat) as a threat who has the biggest support base of LTTE body.

This Monkey would be no more in power next year, as the Labour Party has sunk to its lowest level in history thanks to people like Milband and Keith Vaz.

StrategyPage has got something right!

Finally people getting enlightened about NGO game!

They are 'becoming part of the problem' becomes a 'problem'!

Sri Lanka first removed them from the problem (as far as they could), before attacking the main problem. Therefore, Sri Lanka was successful.

Now they want to save the lost face€ by pointing the finger to the others!

Why JAPAN against with us. can anyone give me a gud explanation about that?

Japan is US's puppet/hostage. So is Mexico. Rest is understood.

NOLTTE=Peace said...

Japan wants to have a strong standing in the UNHRC (after being accused of WWII war crimes). That could be the main reason.

Sri Lanka thinks Japan as a great friend.

Having said that the LTTE lobby is very active, and Japan may have bowed to the lies of LTTE (Japan) Inc.
