Prepare for the end!

DefenceWire wishes to announce with great authority that we are now approaching the last days of the LTTE in its known form. We wish to answer some of the key questions on people's minds today.

Prabhakaran

The last confirmed sighting of the LTTE Leader came on the 26th of March. This was when a mid-level cadre, an eye witness, surrendered to the Army. There are 'indications' of Prabha's presence still. This is how we 'know' he is there.

For example, when monitoring LTTE transmissions in code, LTTE field 'commanders' may request to talk to Banu or Poddu, at which point, the answer given in code states that "They have been called for a meeting". Another indicator is the "do-or-die" mentality of the remaining hardcore cadres. They will not fight so hard unless it is to protect their leader.

Prabhakaran is still believed to be in Mullaivaikkaal. Mullaivaikkaal is divided into Mullaivaikkaal proper, Vellamullaivaikkaal and Karayarmullaivaikkaal. The Army is in both Karayarmullaivaikkaal and Vellamullaivaikkaal.

LTTE fighting stength and morale

Based on our estimates, we can reasonably assume a cadre strength of around 200 hardcore fighters and un unknown number of soft core cadres. Their morale is low, as they have realized the end is near. But our readers must understand that any soldier fights well when they face imminent death.

Although the main reason behind these cadres' willingness to fight to their death is that they have no other alternative, the Army still has a healthy respect for their bravery, commitment and capability.

The ground reality is that the Tigers are fighting hard. Recent fighting in Karayarmullaivaikkaal saw the Tigers even recapturing lost bunkers and holding them for 8 hours until being driven-out or killed by the Army. The game will continue only till the hard core reserve is burnt-out. Burnt-out hard core reserves will be easy picking for the elite soldiers of the Army.

Military Intelligence, which has been gradually cultivating a 'relationship' with senior LTTE leaders indicate that the remaining Tiger strength will fight to its death. Although some of the LTTE leaders earlier indicated a willingness to defect, they soon realized their fate at the hands of the Army. Knowing there is nowhere to go, the only option these senior leaders and their cadres have is to fight to their death.

The nature of the operation

Even in this very last phase, the Army has not altered its winning formula, which we at DefenceWire revealed to the world for the first-time back in 2007-8. The formula is the two doctrines "Kill 10 a day" and "Don't die for our land, let them die for theirs".

Even the hardest stone starts to crack when beaten continuously. The Tigers are no exception. Although there are casualties to regular troops, it minimizes overall risks like exhaustion and fatigue, dependency and risk of undue danger to elite units etc.

DefenceWire has received credible information that either today or tomorrow, both the 58 and 59 Divisions will cross into the NFZ. An area, roughly 2 miles long and 2 miles wide, roughly half the size of the NFZ has been declared a CSZ.

The final scenario

As the Army moves into the areas surrounding the NFZ, Tigers and their hostages will move into the CSZ. It is the Sri Lanka Army that is dictating terms to the LTTE and deciding when, where, how and by whom the LTTE leader and his associates are killed. There is nothing anyone can do to prevent this. There will not be any high-profile prisoners lingering in state prisons in two weeks.

Somebody give good reason as to why Farah is not the escape route to VP, Charles, and few other LTTE carder.

Farah, to come to this stage plus the unknown steel structure LTTE were building (or the one SLDF found could be a 2nd unfinished structure) are too much for a coincident.

My opinion is Farah a planned escape route to LTTE carder.

The worst is now the owner request Norway to get the Farah released. Now LTTE will agree as soon as their carders are onboard. No one will be able to do a foolproof search inside a ship with goods. Specially assuming this is a planned episode, may be having secret compartments to hide once boarded. Or even it could be loading trough the deep see side of the ship. We all have heard many times in the real world that these types of things were happening.

What to be done is left to knowledgeable SLDF. The cost of the ship is nothing compare to money that SL have wasted (plus to be wasted if VP escape) because of LTTE cancer.

Sure. I agree. It will happen. We have to catch up for lost years. Signs are good. Just look at the Armed Forces. See professionalism of young soldier and their brilliance. The officers, Shandra Silva, Prasanna Silva et al.

I can't till Prabha and co is vanquished. Every nation needs a steroid boost for development, e.g.post-war Japan, South Korea. This military win will instill self-belief in Sri Lankans.

What Mahinda Rajapakse has done to Sri Lanka as a country is what Arjuna Ranatunge did to SL Cricket in the lead up to 1996 WC.

ian,

yes.

but we ALREADY have equal rights!! (agree that its IMPLEMENTATION, REVIEW, REDRESS, MONITORING institutions need to be strengthened).

as you know, there is a mismatch between grievances and the proposed solution.

grievance - sinhala only
proposed solution - tamil elam!!

grievance - standardisation
proposed solution - tamil elam!!

grievance - riots
proposed solution - tamil elam!!

grievance - mass migration of tamils to the west (why? ethnic cleansing by GOSL) hilarious but true
proposed solution - tamil elam!!

grievance - genocide
hilarious but true
proposed solution - tamil elam!!

so i think it is more effective if we DESTROY the proposed solution (the attraction) than it's excuses (grievances). that will end bogus grievance creation.

LTTE's Horses (AIADMK, Jayalalitha) set to win power in Tamil Nadu !

NOT GOOD NEWS FOR US!

Punters favour Jaya in TN, Manmohan as PMMay 13, 2009

[CHENNAI: Punters in Tamil Nadu have placed their bets on the alliance led by the AIADMK. In the satta market that has drawn betting to the tune of Rs 2,000 crore in the run up the Lok Sabha elections, more people feel that AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa will be the next superpower in the State, with her alliance romping home in at least 25 constituencies.

As a result, for every rupee you bet on Jayalalithaa, you will get 45 paise extra. Should DMK chief Karunanidhi confound poll pundits and register victory, every rupee you bet on him will fetch you Rs 1.80, according to punters.

The logic: betting on somebody who is most likely to win will provide minimal returns.

According to top satta players in the city, Tamil Nadu has already pumped in Rs 2,000 crore on betting for this election. Punters with deep pockets are present not only in Chennai but also in other Tier II and tier III cities and towns like Coimbatore, Salem and Tirupur.

At the national level, according to bookmakers based in Mumbai, odds are in favour of Manmohan Singh as prime minister with a rupee placed on him bringing a return of 70 paise more. BJP’s L K Advani is a distant second with a rupee on him bringing you Rs 3.50 more. Unrealistic and most improbable of all, a bet on Sharad Pawar will bring you 12 times more on your rupee.

The Mumbai satta market is also predicting Milind Deora of Congress to be the next big thing in that metropolis with a 20 paise profit on a rupee and Priya Dutt coming in a close second with 35 paise more value to a rupee. BJP candidates Ram Naik and Dr Kirit Somaiya are expected to bring in 70 paise and 75 paise respectively.]

Nuclear,

If you read history of Farah 111, you will see why they can’t escape using the ship.

First it developed an engine problem in 2007. LTTE gangs abroad ship and arrest its crew at gun point. They kept entire crew as prisoners and later released them. They cannibalise the ship and cut the anchor so it drift towards Mulatiev coast. It came to coast and grounded. According to news items LTTE have removed even light bulbs from the ship.

Now they are using its hulk as massive cover to attack SLN.

That is what read today. So, how can anybody escape with that steel tank without any equipment?

UPA (Congress) set to win most seats in Lok Sabha, but COALITION POLITICS will determine WHO will Rule INDIA

..........
'UPA, NDA in close finish'May 13, 2009

[ NEW DELHI: The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) will finish marginally ahead of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Lok Sabha elections, exit polls conducted by different TV news channels predicted Wednesday night.

The CNN-IBN poll said the UPA would be the single largest coalition with 185 to 205 seats while the NDA would finish anywhere between 165 to 185 seats in the 545-member house.

The predictions for UPA does not include the projections for the Samajwadi Party, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), which are together expected to bag 25-35 seats. The latter two are part of the UPA coalition but contested independently of the Congress, while the Samajwadi Party joined them in what is being termed the Fourth Front.

The survey gives 110-130 seats to the Third Front that is led by the Left parties.

According to the Star News-Nielsen exit poll, the UPA is likely to bag 202 seats and the NDA 198 seats. The Congress itself was projected to win 157 seats and the BJP 154. The Third Front could settle with 97 seats, while the Samajwadi Party, the RJD and LJP are collectively likely to bag 34 seats.

Headlines Today gave the Congress and its allies 191 seats against 180 for the BJP and its allies.

The Left parties, which supported Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government until July last year, were projected to get 38 seats, a huge fall from their existing tally of 60-plus.

The remaining seats were credited to smaller and regional parties, including the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

India TV said the UPA will be the single largest coalition with 195-201 seats, while the NDA was expected to win 189-195 seats.

It gave the Third Front 113-121 seats, which would grant its constituents a huge say in government formation.

The UPA tally could go up to 227-237 if the seats bagged by the Fourth Front partners were also to be included, India TV said.

The Times of India projection gave the UPA 199 seats, with the Congress alone bagging 154. The NDA was poised to get 183 seats with the BJP getting 142.

The Congress had defeated the BJP in the last general elections in 2004 and then cobbled the UPA with the support of the Left.

The exit polls, however, were way off the mark in the 2004 elections. Nearly all of them predicted an NDA victory by a wide margin, but the BJP-led grouping lost to a rejuvenated Congress. ]

Re. the final fate of VP as mentioned in DefenceWire. Though deadly instantaneous battle conditions at the last moment will decide the outcome, it’s much better if we could capture and make a Pol Pot out of him than a Saddam Hussein. VP dead will appeal more to the weeping Tamil Diaspora than a limping diabetic. Further, we must not be too complacent about this phase of military offensive. There are few strategic challenges not in the hands of our military but with us.
LTTE finance & procurement wing - Can we tap trillions of $ deposited in his personal name (LTTE is not a limited liability company or a partnership when it comes to finances) deposited in Norwegian banks? Are we to shut down all offensives or to fight in int’l grounds with this network?
The next phase of Tamil militancy – (cannot enumerate here, but food for thought)
Geopolitical power in the newly liberated areas i.e. N & E – who would represent those areas in the parliament, allow present TNA to rein in power? No majority representation just because Sinhalese were massacred & chased away some years ago?
Muslim factor –200 Eastern Muslim youth were already sent to a known country for armed Jihad training by a nation building minister. Before liberation of East, one perch of land in Muttur town was Rs. 50,000 and now Rs. 1m. (who fought, who benefitted?) They are to clam “original lands” in liberated areas without leaving present dwellings. The fight (not with arms & ammo) in this regard is yet to begin.
Social & economic integration – is this left only with politicians? How many of you are willing to buy a land & live there, at least in retirement?
Demilitarization – a vast subject, not necessarily disarming the forces but removal of war effects, sentiments & material from the general public.

UN Security Council says Sri Lanka has a legitimate right to combat LTTE terrorismMay 14, 2009

[ May 14, Colombo: Strongly condemning the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) for its acts of terrorism over many years, the United Nations Security Council said the Sri Lankan government has a legitimate right to combat terrorism in the country.

At the request of the European Union members of the UN Security Council, UK, France and Austria, the Council held an informal meeting on Sri Lanka on Wednesday at the UN headquarters in New York and issued a strongly worded press statement. The Council strongly condemned the LTTE for its acts of terrorism over many years, and for its continued use of civilians as human shields, and acknowledged the legitimate right of the Government of Sri Lanka to combat terrorism.

It further demanded the LTTE to lay down its arms and allow the tens of thousands of civilians still in the conflict zone to leave.

The members of the Security Council expressing their deep concern over reported use of heavy weapons in the conflict zone said they expect the Sri Lankan government to fulfill its promise not to use heavy weapons.

The Sri Lankan government has repeatedly denied firing heavy weapons into the no-fire zone where thousands of civilians are held as human shields by the LTTE.

The Security Council demanded that both warring parties respect their obligations under international humanitarian law.

The Council called on the government to cooperate with the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and other international humanitarian organizations to ensure the security of the displaced and provide the humanitarian agencies access to the civilians.

The Council expressed support to UN Secretary-General for his personal involvement in the humanitarian crisis and urged the Sri Lankan government to find a long-term political solution.

When asked whether the Council consider including Sri Lanka in its agenda, the Permanent Representative of the UK, John Sawers said what is important at this stage is to get a unanimous message across to both the government and the LTTE and there is no need to resort to measures that would divide the Council.

Russia, China, Japan and Viet Nam had been against a move to put Sri Lanka on the agenda.

Permanent Representative of Austria, Thomas Mayr-Harting said that the Sri Lankan government has a right to defend itself against terrorism but both sides must follow the international humanitarian law. He said at the end there is no military solution to the conflict and a long term political solution is needed. ]

Taking into account the fact that at least one boat have escaped to Indian ashore beating our SLN cordon, there is a possibility to LTTE carder to get into that ship.

I am looking far than today. If this happens for our fate in Sri Lanka. The possible repercussions are:
1) There will be group who will capitalized on this issue and put the blame on MR.
2) There will be group to make a doubt in the Sri Lankan mind as to LTTE pay money to MR or GR to do this.
3) There will be a group who will blame for all the expenses without VP’s head.
4) Sri Lanka will feel the world recession and a group will blame MR for all that saying all because of going for war or going to liberate people in North.

Those above plus opportunities will make a government change.

VP and LTTE who exiled today will get a pardon and to come back. We all know what that it means.

My question is;
Is the ship plus the rice inside worth the risk we are going to take?

Yeah,
Let us create non existent doctors, journalist, TV stations, spies, LTTE senior cadres e.t.c. Nothing has to be true. If LTTE can say rubbish, we can say rubbish as well. We need some fiction writers to work for MOD.

We could have easily said that doctor LTTE is quoting is a well trained spy who had gone five years of training at our super duper spy school. Now he has been caught, tortured and he is made to say things. Easy, no one would be able to confirm anything until he comes out of NFZ. Speculative or not, reading this will bring some joy to your hearts and some clarity to your brain…I do hope it will get your blood pumping nicely!

Apparently, 58th Division have moved further into the safe zone [SZ] and is now clearing the newly captured areas, they have also captured the beachfront and are stationed within 200m of Farah 3. It is not known how much ammunition is available to Tiger cadres positioned within Farah 3, but they do have at least one navel cannon aboard and some heavy mortars, otherwise it has only been small arms fire that has emanated from the vessel during yesterday. The plan is to take Farah 3 during the early hours of this evening and SF units attached to the 58th are readying themselves for the assault as you read this. The LTTE know the above, but are powerless to do anything. How many cadres are stationed within Farah 3 is also unknown, but if there are many, the SF teams once entering the ship will have their work cut-out for them as they know nothing of the layout within, and will be fighting in a close-combat situation once inside the vessel.

In the meantime the 59th Division had taken some losses last afternoon, mainly to the 12 SLLI, but put up a great fight and have held their positions while later moving forward about 150 metres. At the same time 6 SLLI have fanned out completely covering the southern boundaries of the newly demarcated SZ, and have also been able to reduce LTTE cadre pressure through attrition.

It is expected that the LTTE will tonight put up the fight of their lives, and something is going to happen. Maybe a desperate effort to break the SL defence lines and get their leader out. Anyway, it is estimated that the LTTE only have remaining around 200 hardcore fighting cadres and only another 90 or so newly recruited youngsters, but these numbers could be more, or even less.

The belief amongst the 3 CO’s on the FDLs is that the LTTE will crack. Meaning that once the civilians start moving, which is expected anytime soon, the remaining newly recruited cadres will seek to escape along with the civilians. At the moment most of these newly recruited cadres are guarding the civilians with a few hardcore fighters.

The questions are: Will all the hardcore cadres fight unto death, or will they too see no reason to die for a lost cause and surrender? It is estimated that another 3 days fight is left in the LTTE at the most.

I don't want to kill the leaders because the Tamils have been brainwashed into worshiping the dead. Only thing they did in Wanni was build cemeteries. They have big celebrations for their dead every year. If VP is killed they will worship him even more and no one will get to find out what a coward he was. Even if some SF die it is bad. But it is worth to capture him alive.

LET THEM WORSHIP HIM. WE ARE GOING FORWARD WITH OUR REBUILDING PLANS.

To MPJ,
This is a very good thing you and your freinds are doing. They have given us something we all value so much but did not have the ability to get for our selves. we should do something when ever possible. Not for charity but with respect, admiration and gratitude.

Api avurudu 4 withara abadhitha ranaviruwante vasikili pahasukam sapayeeme yedi atha. I would like to share a few ideas with you. It is very important to visit their home, meet the families and decide on what is the best facility. You need to go through an offical source for obvious secuirty and dignity reasons but this is not difficult as you know. We have kept in close contact with them right through the construciton and visited as often as possible. Harima puduma, sithate wadena athdakeemak. Salli yawanawa wage neame. They also feel you are freinds rather than people who do charity.
Hope this helps you in your good work. Budu saranai.

I have been dreaming of the day VP with beard sits on national TV and says sorry to all. I think it will be very worth it.

--------------------
Firstly, what is the point of hearing sorry from some one who doesn't mean it. For him to realize what he did was wrong would take another 20-25 years. Some times even then he might not realize it. Look at the number of mass murderers who die without a single remorse. Is he worth the waste of public resources?

Secondly he fought for an Ideology. In our point of view, it is wrong. In his point of view, he is right. What ever did, he did for a greater Eelam nation.

The people who are going to worship him would worship him always. So why worry about them. Lets make sure we would never allow another VP to be borne in SL.

You seemed to have missed your tablet today.

Obama has given the go ahead to GOSL to finish off the Tamil terrorists. Further he said LTTE must surrender their weapons... and this is NOT the time for POLITICAL ANALYSIS.

Smart man. He waited until the point of no return!

Gentleman [and Ladies if any]

Blasting Farah 3 is a bit of a difficult option, given that she is a 156 metre long 20,000 ton vessel [One and half times a football field]. The quantity of explosives required to completely blast her is not worth the trouble. Even a whole ton of C4 will only create a huge gapping hole in the hull, and also such a large blast would result in lots of shrapnel and who knows what else.

Farah 3 also poses strategic advantages for the army once captured. It will present the army snipers with a superb platform from which to operate, but also offers an unobstructed view across the terrain into Muliavikkal, and also to the Nandi Kadal lagoon behind the landmass. This could be of vital importance to the army advance manoeuvres

In the recent days Farah 3 has been hit by army mortar fire which has hardly affected the vessel, as she is very firmly beached. The twin propellers at the rear along with a huge part of the rudder are well grounded up to about 2/3 metres deep in the sand. [Assumption]

The operation to take Farah 3 would probably be a ground assault under a continued barrage of RPGs aimed at the upper-deck of the vessel, combined with an amphibious beach landing of SF commandos. Whatever the case, I feel a 2 pronged assault will be required to draw LTTE fire from the vessel in one direction, while the actual assault will come from another.

Let’s wait and see what our highly experienced and remarkable Special Forces will actually do.

May courage and Godspeed accompany our Braves.

Mate, we would not be able to assure that another VP would not be borne. But we must assure if they do, such would be killed with the first sign of existence.

We also have to be very careful and developed strategies to frustrate the so called "dream homelands" for ethnic minorities. We must advocate policies for healthy regional ethnic balance openly (even constitutionally) and equal rights and responsibilities for all Sri Lankans. We must also encourage tamils to migrate to west. (family union migration).

We have capital punishment back in SL. We can hang him after a quick 1 month trial like Saddam.

You know many Muslims would have thought Saddam is a warrior if he was not taken from a hole in the ground and hanged. That is what we must do to VP. Even some Muslims in Colombo thought Saddam was a hero before he was put on TV as a coward. Now no one supports him.

If we let them go to west they will join diaspora clan to work aginst us using IC.

Better if we set up some estates in north and keep them in line houses. That way we can easily manage them like in Hatton but also keep them fed and clothed so no trouble from IC.

LB-UK,

Yes there is a risk in that.

Marits are: assuming that they would leave voluntarily without hatred (not like 1983 migration)we may achieve,

1. negative growth of tamil population. At this stage tamils are around 8-9%. Must bring it down to 6%.
2. If they reach their destination with a good feeling as equal Sri Lankan citizens (post war era) that would maintaing healthy diaspora who would work jointly with diaspora of other sri lankian ethnicities.

DW,

White Phosphorous may be the reason that LTTE was so sure that they can escape with all this cornering to such a small area.

If they have they will sure use them.

If they can make their own children to suicide carder, using white Phosphorous to defend the last lap is nothing.

Finally, looking into their armories (type of arms and quantity of arms) that SLA recovered (there still may have many that gone undetected) can anyone assume that they do not posses White Phosphorous.

Just try to answer; what weapons did not posses by LTTE?

So it is SLDF job to take care of this factor.

We wish to remind our great SLDF, that our soldiers who are volunteered to liberate civilians (or to eliminate terrorism) are also civilians and should not be risk to die as much as not using heavy weaponry thinking LTTE civilians are getting killed.

We all know that LTTE carders do not have tattoo to identify. Once LTTE carder removes the cyanide capsule he becomes a civilian.

When LTTE carder is KIA and the body is recovered by LTTE, will go as civilian killed by SLAF shelling.

When LTTE carder cannot fight due to injuries, he goes to green ship as civilian injured after SLAF shelling.

Now they may be waiting to use White Phosphorous and blame GOSL for Genocide by using chemical weapons.

We now have option, Genocide using;
1) heavy weapons or
2) Chemical weapons!

I am not sure what is better.

In this game, better to win and get the blame, than lose and get the blame.

LTTE's shocking use of banned weaponry
* White phosphorus targeting fleeing hostages

* Use of civilians as Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD)

-------------------------
Way to go Defence.lk.
Keep on writing this type of articles for the next few days to keep the International Media happy.

We should use CWMD (Civilians as a weapon of Mass Destruction) in some of our news conference. It is a nice catch phrase. Even the PAKs might use it as this would become a common Guerilla strategy in the future.

The main problem with Tamils is that they can switch easily.

Most of them didn't leave in 83. I know many who pretended to be Sri Lankan in Colombo. They left for UK in the 90s and now they are holding tiger flag. That is the trouble with most of them. In Colombo they smile and be nice. Soon after they arrive in west they are different people.

I think sending them to west will be a mistake. Better to keep them in land and manage them well like we do in estates. Yes we ill have small troubles but they will not dare to do terrorism again.

The Wanni is not clear for us start large estates. That is best reconstruction. Then we can use these civilians as labor. They get jobs, houses and food. We can manage them well that way.

Harsh – and others.

I have no confirmed information about 12 SLLI and 59th Division other than that they are still moving forward. Darkness has just set on the eastern cost of Sri Lanka and I believe that the action is now beginning. The main objective is to try and breach LTTE defences in a small area, so as to open up a corridor and facilitate the escape of as many hostages as possible.

After opening up such a corridor, it will take 2 teams to hold the corridor open. One team will help the escapees while also looking for infiltrators/suicide bombers, while a second team will be required to dig-in both sides of the corridor and hold off any counter attack attempts by the LTTE to effectively close off the corridor.

The most probable way the LTTE will try to close off any such corridor would be by sending suicide bombers along with the escapees, so this is a very dangerous task for the braves who undertake this operation.

Unfortunately I have no other information regarding 12 SLLI and we would have to wait for Amal Samantha’s report which he will by on Rupavahini at 8.

Yeah, if we don't plan use heavy weapons, there should be no reason why we shouldn't take some Asia correspondents with us. But we need to make sure we don't break laws, otherwise later on they might squeal for money as well. We have to remember LTTE still have plenty of cash and they would use it if they can harm the government.

hilarious: how the LTTE avoids parts they hate:

".. "Tamils earnestly look forward to President Barack Obama to lead the humanitarian intervention," he said, accusing the United Nations of holding back in bringing about a truce.

He made no reference to Obama's statement that called the LTTE's use of civilians as forced recruits and human shields "deplorable" nor the call to lay down arms.

hick, hick:

Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The United Nations has said as many as 50,000 may be trapped -- huddled under plastic sheeting, in shallow bunkers and with little food, water or medical facilities.

The statement agreed by the UN Security Council had been put forward by France, Britain and Austria, who had lobbied hard for the world body to address the "appalling" crisis in Sri Lanka.

The text is non-binding, but with China and Russia among others opposed to putting the Sri Lankan i

ssue on the council agenda, diplomats said it was the best the European sponsors could hope for.

FINALLY, someone from NGO (head of UNCHR) is clearly saying that tigers are shooting at civilians:
----------------------
The United Nations' acting representative for Sri Lanka, Amin Awad, told Reuters that local sources in the combat zone confirmed up to 6,000 were in the water or safely across.

"They are trying to escape, but the LTTE is firing at them, overhead and into them. The army and the navy claimed to have rescued some, and we are concerned about those remaining," said Awad, who is also head of the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR.

I happened to talk to one of my friend(Sinhala) in France about 1 hour ago and to one of my friend in Toronto, and heard that now they can not go out to buy anything from a sinhala shop. The LTTE activists are doing lot of harassments and they(LTTE) use razor blades to put fear into the persons who are going to Sinhala shops. I know in Canada in 2004 I met a person from India who was staying with 2 LTTE activists. They(LTTE) wants my friend to support to their so called dream cause, and since my friend refused to do it, he got into many troubles and had to leave the house leaving LTTE activists. (Firstly my indian friend was afraid to talk with me, when I said that I am from Sri Lanka, thinking that I am also a LTTE) This is the situation today. I have been working in a company with many LTTE activists in Toronto and I know how they think and act. Being Sinhalese, we tolerate many things, not like LTTE activists. But it seems now no body cares about these innocent Sinhalese who are outside their country(Sri Lanka). Today this is happening in France, UK, Canada(Toronto). These must be taken as serious offenses, and must be informed to media(international) with pictures and other proof in English. We know that LTTE activists are trying to so many fake things with their propaganda machine to prove to the world that they are being harassed.
