We have received credible information on the arrest of two individuals, one a middle aged man traveling on a non-Sri Lankan passport at an undisclosed location in Bangkok in a joint stint launched by Thai and Sri Lankan authorities. The travel documents and said identity confirms with an alias of LTTE operative Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingham.
The man was carrying travel documents both under his own birth name and under other aliases at the time of arrest. A group of Sri Lankan officials is expected to fly the said two individuals to Sri Lanka shortly. Please await further information as it is made available.

It mat be hard to make an idiot intelligent but its not hard to understand how monks involved in SL cricket team departure. Its common for buddhists to see a monk and get blessing before leaving the country and one may do it individually. We can assume SLC (institute) has organized such an event by bringing monks becuz it makes things easy for players and to save time. Non-buddhist players may not need to participate but as we see they do so, probably by their own decision. (They are team !) I don't know they have similar custom, but if they want to see their own religious persons they can do so individually.
However, the point is not what I wrote. The point is how one super duper tamiza is soo upset about this happening. When US president take oaths they use a Bible to take oath of office and suffixed "So help me God" to the end of the oath. Now no one find any thing wrong with this where millions of non-chritians live. The report on Sri Lanka’s (SL) war that was to be forwarded to the US Congress has been postponed indefinitely . According to sources in America , this postponement is engendered by the need to garner more information in connection with the report . However , some sources say ,this is the result of a successful ‘Diplomatic operation’ of SL. It is Israel which is being employed to execute this operation . Israel is playing a major role in the operation to soften the American pressure.
Use of Israel by the SL Govt. to ward off the pressures of America is not something new. According to knowledgeable sources , Israel helped SL to stave off the pressures brought to bear on SL by America to halt the war to protect the civil population during the final phase of the war.

I got the SL/Aus citizenship. I paid the money. But the current deal seem to be really good if you are thinking of getting the citizenship.
I think it cost around 2,500 dollars to get the citizenship.
Therefore you are going to get a 2500 dollars return if you do that investment straight away. That is like 10% up front return even without the return on bonds. Here i am assuming SL bonds are pretty low risk instruments.

Aussie Channel SBS breached broadcasting rules over two episodes on LTTE

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has said that SBS breached broadcasting rules when it aired two episodes of the Tamil Language Program biased in favour of Tamil Tiger rebels, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
According to reports, both the episodes dealt with the conflict between the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE.
In the first episode aired on October 26, 2008, it included an interview with a critic of the Sri Lankan government, while the second broadcast, on January 18, 2009, included comments on an atrocity allegedly committed by members of the Sri Lankan army, sourced from an online video, News.com.au reports.
ACMA found that no other views were offered during the program and the requirement for balance in the SBS code had been breached. t also emphasised that SBS had not confirmed the video’s authenticity that was aired on January 2009 and that the code’s requirement of accurate factual content was breached.
ACMA has also said that it would not any action against SBS, as the channel has already counselled the presenters involved in the broadcasts.

As I often call them, GR, SF, WK, RG, JJ, SS, JD etc. are outstanding heroes of our history standing tall among Vijyabahu and Dutugemunu era warriors. That is the highest honer a Sri Lankan can have. They all are exceptional warriors but not politicians. I personally don't want them to loose that great hero status by getting in to not so clean politics.

Obama against legalizing providing support to the LTTE
The U.S. Supreme Court said on Wednesday it would hear an Obama administration appeal against moves by a human rights group in Los Angeles which seeks to legalize providing support to the LTTE in Sri Lanka and the Kurdistan Workers Party in Turkey, a Reuters report said.
The justices agreed to review a U.S. appeals court ruling that struck down as unconstitutionally vague a law that makes it a crime to provide support to a foreign terrorist group.
The challenge had been brought by groups and individuals who want to provide support to the Kurdistan Workers Party in Turkey and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka. The State Department designated both as foreign terrorist groups.
The Humanitarian Law Project, a human rights group in Los Angeles, previously provided human rights advocacy training to the Kurdistan Workers Party, known as the PKK, and the main Kurdish political party in Turkey.
The Humanitarian Law group and others sued in 1998 in an effort to renew support for what they described as lawful, nonviolent activities overseas.
The law, first adopted in 1996, was strengthened by the USA Patriot Act supported by then-President George W. Bush and approved by Congress right after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001. It was amended again in 2004.
According to Reuters the US high court is expected to hear arguments in the case early next year, with a decision likely by June. It will be the first time the court will consider part of the Patriot Act.
Convictions under the law, which bars knowingly providing any service, training, expert advice or assistance to a designated foreign terrorist group, can result in sentences of 15 years to life in prison.
The law does not require any proof that the defendant intended to further any act of terrorism or violence by the foreign group.
The Obama administration appealed to the Supreme Court and called the law "a vital part of the nation's efforts to fight international terrorism."
Since 2001, the United States has charged about 120 defendants with the material support of terrorism and about half have been convicted, the Justice Department said.
"Many of those prosecutions potentially prevented substantial harm to the nation," Reuters qouted Solicitor General Elena Kagan as saying in the appeal. Defendants have been charged under the law with "providing al Qaeda with martial arts training and instruction" and "medical support to wounded jihadists."

Firstly, according to the SL law if you are not at present a military (or state) employee you can do politics (contest in elections.) Secondly, e-military people have same right as any other citizen to contest in elections. Thirdly, if any one get elected by preferential votes in current system, there cannot be any question as whether they are ex-military or relatives of Rajapakshes.
Now, most people I know share the opinion; GR/SF should not enter into politics - politics is too corrupted, ugly, mud slinging, low class field and these people are really great people in our time and they should restrain doing politics. In other words, let the bad politics remains bad as it is and let these good people remain good.
Now again firstly, let me remind, Gamunu, Wijayaba, Gajaba, Parakum... were all not only great warriors but also rulers of the country too. If GR/SF are of the extension of the same generation what's wrong going one step forward? If they are willing and capable then what's wrong giving their service to the nation instead of staying home as pensioners?
Secondly, its true that todays politics is such a disgusting, sorrowful comedy. Isn't it better if we can improve/ change it by employing proven patriots? In such a case I like to be optimistic rather than being pessimistic; i.e. ("me rata hadanna ba, deshapalaneta gihin hondata inna me minussu sawuththu wena eka itharai wenne")
Thirdly, there is no such phenomena saying one person can perform well only in one field. My experience is most able people can perform well in diverse disciplines.

It is a very personal choice GR has to make whether he want to run for an office. As I started, I will vote for him if he competes in my neighborhood. However, he is way high up their in our nation's history like those great warriors (Gamini Abhaya's 10). Future generations will talk about great warriors of President Rajapaksha in the same vein as we talk about great warriors of King Dutugemunu today. Their memories will act as beacons that will guide our nation in the future. Now that is one side.
I am very hopeful that the golden age of Sri Lanka is about to be dawned. However, it will not happen in just one or two years due to entrenched corruption and poverty in the society. I believe that it is a problem bigger than terrorism since it is an enemy within. We can eradicate it but, it will take a several decades before we cleanup the system. Our heroes coming in to politics will not change the corrupt political landscape in a few years. In this process, images of our heroes too will get affected. Remember, we are talking about outstanding heroes of Sri Lankan history of 2550 years, not just post western colonialists era. This is our nation's heritage I want to leave intact for future generations.

We can't expect a perfect society at any time any where. The best hope is minimizing the bad things in today's SL politics and maintain it at acceptable level. Its true that its GR's choice. But if we really expect a positive change in SL politics his willingness and ability are necessary but not sufficient. We need understanding and support from public too. Its said "bodi sathwayo" (pre-buddha) checked the right "time and location" from heaven before getting birth as human. This means if you want to make a change in a society one individual's actions are necessary but not sufficient. Society itself must be ready. I have negative answer for this - our society is not there yet.

I travelled around China few years back. Initially I had a very bad impression about China because it is a communist country. But once I travelled around China, I realize it is much better than many other capitalist nations.
When you consider china, you should compare it to a country like India. I think if it did not become a communist country, china would be a whore house and a play ground of the west. What communist party has done is given it a strong leadership, and a country the Chinese can be proud of.
I ended up talking to some Chinese fighter pilots and you wouldn't want to hear what they think about U.S.
Also the current transition from communism to capitalism is happening in a very coordinated fashion. If there is too much freedom, then it would end up becoming another Russia. If you open the flood gates, like in Russia, what would end up happening is few people would become millionaires and the rest becomes beggars.
I think Chinese would have to wait few more years to get to a total democracy, but I think it is well worth it.

- What China got from Communism is to raise its needy to average life standard.
- What China learnt from nationalism is to stand firm always appreciating its values and not being downed by outside set standards. China defines chinese perspective for anything, lous and clear.
- What China learnt from Capitalism is how to build a wealth and business community w/o power to rampage on others and play dirty games. The lack of hype in the economy pre-empts the recession like the credit-crunch in west.
- What China learnt from globalization is how to make it profitable by means of outsourcing. Australia's national flag is made in China, all over Australia.
- China has shown how you can be powerful but not take part in any major warfare around world. It is a discipline their culture has, perhaps thanks to the religious structure of theirs. Chinese philosophies and their buddhist touch, may be teh reason.
- China is teh best example for you if you wanna understand prevention of terrorism. With lots of minorities, ethnic religious and ideological, and a whole world against them, China never made room to mature any kinda militancy anywhere. It is a mix of dialog, listening, punishment, brutality etc etc. A good method for us to try now on our own. In fact JRJ shud have tried it in late 70s.
- China has run both capitalism and socialism in helpful ways w/o destruction.
- Most importantly, China's masterpiece is how they came here from extreme rural poverty of first half of last century, and then from the extreme dictatorship of Mao days, and then the carnage of cultural revolution, lack of infrastructure, education, malnutritiion, to where they are today It is not easy. It is not mere indicators. There is a huge synergy and strong mindset shown in achieving this. Their sister natins like Cube, NKorea etc live in whatever pits they landed into.
- China beng such a hardcore communist nation, worships no political figures. it is a level difference that many democracies still depend on individuals more than them.
- China has to learn more on environmentalism. Also they have to adapt their level of democracy with the IQ level of their nation. But China will do so, as far as i see.
- 8/9 members of Standing Committee of Politburo of PR of China are Engineers, including President and Premier. Least you expect from a socialist nation, right? Note that it means that they are doing social Engineering, not social maintenance.

Cabinet spokesman, Information and Media Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said today the government is planning to investigate into yesterday’s SMS alert campaign by mobile operators which requested the subscribers to watch TV at 8.05pm for a historical event.
The SMS turned out to be following a request made on behalf of Ministry of Transport and the event" showed a clipping of its ‘Uthuru Mithuru’ commercial confusing the viewers who had cancelled all their programs to watch TV at the time.

Bomb explosion in school van: 12 children injured- Kurunegala
12 school children and a van driver sustained injuries following a bomb explosion near Nissanka Viduhala at Udawalpola, Kurunegala this morning (Oct 02) at 6.55.
"The driver had just started the vehicle when the bomb went-off inside the garage of Mr. K. A Karunasena", Kurunegala Police said. "We believe a personal dispute to be behind this incident", the Police further said.
The injured were rushed to the Kurunegala Hospital. Police investigations are underway.

The government yesterday strongly denied US allegations that rape had been used as a weapon in Sri Lanka’s successful war against the LTTE. Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told The Island that nothing could be far from the truth. He emphasized that there was absolutely no basis whatsoever even to suggest Sri Lankan forces had raped anyone during the three-year campaign.
Clinton’s attack came close on the heels of Defence Secretary Gitabhaya Rajapaksa meeting Robert Blake in the US where he explained the situation in Sri Lanka, particularly ongoing efforts to resettle the war displaced.
The US targeted Sri Lanka at a UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday (September 30). U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that rape had been used as a weapon of war in the Balkans, Burma, Sri Lanka and elsewhere and that in too many countries and in too many cases, the perpetrators had not been punished. She said that this impunity would encourage further attacks.
Government sources told The Island that Clinton had chaired Wednesday’s meeting on the last day of the US presidency of the council.
Sources said the US was trying to make a case against Sri Lanka.
The UN Security Council on Wednesday unanimously adopted a resolution creating new tools to combat sexual violence against women and children in conflict situations.
Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha, Secretary to the Human Rights Ministry told The Island the government would like the US to reveal any specific allegations against the Sri Lankan Army.
"Maybe she is confused with the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan," he said adding a section of the international community working overtime to discredit Sri Lanka. He said that it was unfortunate that those who had failed to save the LTTE from being crushed at the hands of the SLA, was now harassing Sri Lanka.
Wijesinha said the US should explain the basis on which the allegation was levelled against Sri Lanka. Both, the US Ambassador in Colombo and US Embassy spokesperson were in the Maldives.
Prof. Wijesingha said that some countries derived a sadistic pleasure by making baseless allegations against Sri Lanka. According to him, the Swedish delegation at the recently concluded Human Rights Sessions in Geneva had expressed concern over ill-treatment of children and women at government-run welfare centres in the northern Sri Lanka.
Wijesinha said that the Swedes had so far failed to keep their pledge to provide Sri Lanka with details to facilitate an inquiry. "They are silent now though I have contacted them on my return to Colombo," he said. Responding to The Island queries, he said that Sri Lanka had a right to know the reasons for their claim made on behalf of many other countries.
The SLA said that a recent attempt to liken Vavuniya camps to Nazi-era concentration camps by a group of Sri Lankans supportive of the LTTE cause was part of the campaign.
Prof. Wijesinha said that critics had conveniently ignored that many worked against the Sri Lankan State for personal gain. He told the HRC that journalist J. S. Tissainayagam who had recently received a 20-year sentence for propagating lies, in fact accepted money from the LTTE. "It is regrettable that there is no recognition of the fact that he accepted funding from a terrorist movement," he said. Recalling US criticism of the Tissainayagam verdict, he asked whether the US or the British would permit their citizens to receive funding from Al Qaeda or any other terrorist organisation.

Government Defence Affairs Spokesman and Minister Keheliya Rambukwella yesterday vehemently opposed and totally rejected the statement made by US State Secretary Hilary Clinton to the UN Security Council that rape had been used as a tool of the liberation war in Sri Lanka.
