We have received credible information on the arrest of two individuals, one a middle aged man traveling on a non-Sri Lankan passport at an undisclosed location in Bangkok in a joint stint launched by Thai and Sri Lankan authorities. The travel documents and said identity confirms with an alias of LTTE operative Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingham.
The man was carrying travel documents both under his own birth name and under other aliases at the time of arrest. A group of Sri Lankan officials is expected to fly the said two individuals to Sri Lanka shortly. Please await further information as it is made available.

I had some (consistent) idea about our history of 2500 years but if there is archeological evidence for a rich civilization in SL 3000 years ago that puts many questions my story. I ll explain more this later.

I disagree.
1. In the story the son was identified as the culprit and there is no need to keep the father. In camps you really don't know for sure. Rebels were hiding with the people and still are.
2. Old and very young IDPs were allowed to go but in the story the old man was kept in police station.
3. In the story the old man had a place to go home to. Most IDPs don't have a home. They have nowhere to go. Those who have willing relatives were released.
4. Going back to nowhere is very dangerous for IDPs. Landmines, monsson rains, diseases and no hospital facilities to name a few. IDPs got displaced manytimes. Government cannot further displace them by letting them wander aimlessly. More than 25,000 people lost limbs due to landmines in the war. Can we allow that to happen to poor IDPs? So it is not at all like the hanzard story.
5. IDPs are not kept to take revenge from anyone. Only good intentions. But that old man was kept with malicious intentions.
6. IDPs are not going to stay for years. They will be resettled. But that old man would probably have died in custody.
7. Thousands of IDPs have been resettled already. This is where comparing with the story becomes ridiculous.
8. IDPs have shelter, banks, food, medicine, toilet facilities. Aid agency officers have access to them. What about that old man?
9. I don't say IDPs should not be set free. They should be set free as soon as possible. But not before government can properly and safely resettle them. Just letting the IDPs go away is not the good thing to do although it is easier and saves millions of rupees for the government.
10. Cyclone Kathrina IDPs are still in refugee camps. That is in America. Resettling 300,000 IDPs for poor Sri Lanka is no easy task. But I am convinced that the government is doing the best it can. We should support the government resettle IDPs and IDPs directly. Will those who seem worried about IDPs actually help IDPs? I doubt. I will and I have already helped.

In Ratnapura area gem miners find evidence of civilization in many of the deep mines (bricks, clay work, remnants of metal equipment etc), however they do not disclose as it can shut down the mine to acquiring the land by the government.
In some of the deepest mines, people have found bones suspected to be of dinosaurs.
Not only the dinosaurs, they have found bones of Lions, Rhinoceros, Giraffes to many wild animals that are now extinct from Sri Lanka.
As with the other civilizations, in Sri Lanka also civilization has taken place around ancient rivers.
We are lacking a comprehensive archaeological approach. We know it is costly, but if we have a comprehensive program, it would surely help us to establish our identity.

SL wasn't uninhabited before Wijaya. Every legend tells about settlements in SL. We have found evidence for one of the earliest Homo Sapien settlements in Fa Hien and Balangoda caves leading back to 133000yrs [humonoids then].
And imagine the days of early [known] civilization. Imagine the first adventures of rudimentary ships. When naval powers grew, and trade started ticking in anyone crossing Indian ocean in that day's technology almost certainly HAD to stop in SL, before they cross the long remaining stretch. These events dates way back than just 2500yrs. They had to have interacted with ppl, by means of trade and also by means of settling with them and integrating into their nation.
Then of course Ramayanaya. I may not take it literally true, but having Indians imagine facts about SL in that way, makes me think that there had been powerful pre-wijaya kingdoms in SL with technology marvels, and there had been wars with them.
All point to one place. That there was an advanced pre-wijaya civilization in SL, and it being a strong center of trade of that time. Otherwise, if Wijaya started it from scratch, how can Romans happened to know about this place in mere 400-500yrs?
I still don't know why exactly Mahawansa author linked the fore-father of our nation to Wijaya. If you read my prev post about Pandukabhaya, it looks very much clear that he's the first known king to create the nation of Sinhala. [COLOMBO, SinhalaNet 2009.09.23 03:22PM] A Chilaw UPFA Municipal Councillor Member Joseph Anthony Rodrigo has been arrested on charges of having links with the LTTE. He is also reported to be involved in a job scam where he had collected some Rs.20 million on the promise of finding jobs for unsuspecting youth.
In the process, this politician is said to have been working closely with some LTTE leaders and even had helped them to send some LTTE activists abroad. It has also been alleged that he had been involved in the suicide bomber kits found in Myena Island.The suspect is presently being held at Counter Terrorist Unit in Colombo.When inquired from the Mayor – W.A. Hillary Fernando – Attorney-at-Law, he said that he heard about the issue only unofficially.

The ‘monkey act’ at the USIP

The 28 August presentations by Jehan Perera and Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu at the so-called US Institute of Peace (USIP) revealed many things about these two individuals.
Perera, following a ‘gutless’ analysis about the situation in Sri Lanka, pleaded for the ‘support’ of the international community. He was careful not to mention money though.
Paikiasothy’s motive was obviously similar but was expressed more deceptively, and venomously. With the use of meaningless and hackneyed clichés such as the need to ‘move from post-war to post-conflict situation (a journey of thousand miles it seems!) and ‘empirical reference points’, whatever they could be, Paikiasothy was searching desperately for academic or intellectual veneer to his demented rant! An excellent rebuttal presented with dignity by the Sri Lankan ambassador blunted any effect these two bogus intellectuals would have had.
The futility of this ‘dance of the two monkeys’ to the neocon tunes cannot be fully illustrated without understanding the background of their host, the USIP. The detail shows that the association between these agents and their friends at the USIP is based on dishonesty of similar scale of the two parties.
The USIP is a congressionally funded ‘think tank’ created in 1984 during the Ronal Reagan regime, staffed by neocons who plotted the seizure of Iraq’s oil fields. Similar to the front specifically created for undermining Cuba, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), USIP is another product of neocon success in the Reagan and Bush era, aided by Congress, in getting public funding to implement their agenda against progressives internationally. Outrageously, at its creation USIP was mandated with full access to classified information of intelligence agencies.
Under the guise of promoting peace, the USIP facilitates war and occupation. The naming of the Institute as one of ‘Peace’, and describing themselves as ‘pursuing nonviolent alternatives to war’ are part of the grand scheme of deception. They are a group of war mongers representing the global oil industry interests of long nosed neocons.
The USIP board of directors, a who’s who of the neocon army, gives the lie to any it being nonpartisan and nonideological peace group as the propaganda suggests. The president since 1993 is Richard H. Solomon, a former National Security Council staff member originating from the RAND Corporation, the think tank that designed the Vietnam War. Vice president Charles E. Nelson is also from RAND and the National War College.
The chairman of the USIP board of directors is J. Robinson West, a Washington lobbyist specialising in representing the major oil companies. Other members of the board include Secretary of Defense Robert Gates who headed the CIA under G. H. W. Bush and Charles Horner, from the ultra militarist Hudson Institute.
A new building complex to house the USIP, nearing completion, will be named after George P. Schultz, the creator of the Bush-Cheney doctrine of preventative (first strike) nuclear warfare, a major military contractor these days.
The activities of USIP show its true nature. It spends tens of millions of tax dollars researching symptomatic problems such as motivations for terrorism, but never the root causes of it such as America’s arming of the Israeli Weltanschauung, or the habit of brutally invading Third World countries to snatch their natural resources.

USIP takes a special interest in countries with oil reserves. It has several Iraq ‘specialists’ including Rend Francke, a Jewish Iraqi expatriate who, along with the infamous Ahmed Chalabi, abetted Bush-Cheney-Powell- Rumsfeld axis of evil into invading Iraq in 2003.
USIP staffers organised the Iraq Study Group, a collection of neocons who finally figured out that their war on Iraq is unwinnable. The Study Group was headed by James Baker and was composed of executives from RAND, Bechtel and Citigroup as well as the Heritage Foundation, Hoover Institution, American Enterprise Institute and the Hudson Institute. To lead the study, USIP partnered with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a similar group run by executives from the Carlyle Group, the Coca-Cola Company, Merrill Lynch & Co., Exxon Mobile Corp, Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley, Time Inc. and alleged war criminal Henry Alfred Kissinger.
In October 2008, USIP produced a report by a ‘Pakistan Policy Working Group’ as part of an avalanche of ‘bipartisan’ reports that were being churned out by Washington-based neocon think tanks aiming to influence the policies of the in-coming administration. Group members included former senior officials who served in the State Department, the Pentagon, the CIA, and the National Security Council, and representatives from the the Brookings Institution and RAND Corporation. The report was endorsed by former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage from the Republican side and the former cochairman of the 9/11 Commission and the Iraq Study Group, Lee Hamilton from the Democrat side. The report was cosponsored by Armitage’s consulting firm, Armitage International, the right-wing Heritage Foundation; and DynCorp International, major contractor with the State Department and the USAID.
The USIP report created the South Asian agenda for the Obama administration, branding Pakistan the ‘greatest single challenge’, and recommending aid cuts unless it commits itself to the counterinsurgency struggle against the Taliban and al Qaeda. The report also asserted that Washington is justified in carrying out unilateral cross-border attacks into Pakistan against terrorist targets until Islamabad shows ‘that it is ready and willing to act aggressively’ against them on its own. All this from the Institute of ‘Peace’!
Paikiasothy is aiding and abetting these rogues by attempting to underplay the security aspect of the IDP management and by trying to make human rights the central issue. While any one human would want to give the IDPs a better life, it must also be remembered that there are several million others in Sri Lanka whose accommodation, nutrition and education issues are as grave as those of the IDPs.
Fraudsters like Paikiasothy should be asked the question, ‘What about their Human Rights? How can their concern be so selective?
Paikiasothy’s attempt to communicate rubbish is made more difficult by his ridiculous, nondescript accent. It is suggestive of an attempt to ape his masters gone tragically wrong! He spoke of ‘sh’allenges and recon’sh’illiation, prompting a Sri lankan member in the audience to retort that it was all ‘ch’it.

To illustrate the point in relation to recent events, I mention just two examples. There was considerable (and needless) debate on numbers of trapped civilians in the War Zone. Strong official issue was taken about estimates by responsible sources such as the UN, Human Rights groups and diplomatic missions.They claimed figures as high as 200,000, Official protestations were that this was a gross exaggeration and that in reality they were much less, only 50 to 60,000. Then suddenly it is claimed that 160,000 or more have come across to the safe zones, leaving about 50,000 still trapped! Likewise, disclosure of casualties among SL forces has been routinely avoided (reasons suggested for this are not impressive) until suddenly a figure of 24,000 is quoted to visiting inquisitors! Even the most flexible arithmetic would be hard put to cope with such inconsistencies. In such circumstances, confidence in GOSL media must be sorely shaken.
Finally, i dont give a Shit about tamil elam, i do care about the fundamental rights of human beings black, white, tamil, sinhala, freedom of expressing ones own views you like it or not.

I heard Vanni Institute of Tech or similar orgs were funded and operated by LTTE in SL and also the Diaspora to train LTTE cadres in IT. Some trained people were sent overseas using the qualification. Some are now handling the ealamist web communications in many parts in the world. Bogus certificates from the same institutions were also used to get visas to the west. One thing I admire these MFs have comprehended the way the embassies/HR organizations/world economics/world politics operate and were/are making the maximum use of it.

Agree 100%. For example, many of us still debate and trying to understand the logic behind post war re-structuring of the armed forces - especially the credentials of those who replaced some of the key/proven players.

LTTE were to get 10 aircrafts, Indian media report says

Sept 24, Colombo: Sri Lanka's terrorist outfit, Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were set to get 10 new aircraft through an Eritrea-based arms smuggling network when the government's military offensive reached its climax, an Indian media report said.
According to a report in Indian newspaper Hindustan Times, the aircraft had been dismantled and were to be shipped to the north-eastern coast of Sri Lanka when the war reached a decisive stage.
"The LTTE calculated that the war would stretch but it didn’t happen; the aircraft could not be delivered," the Indian daily quoted a senior Sri Lankan military officer.
According to the army officer, the LTTE while waiting for the aircraft to arrive got the pilots trained from training schools in Malaysia and Indonesia. Trained instructors were also present in Sri Lanka.
The Army has recovered pilot training simulator from the jungles of Mullaitivu.
"At least a dozen pilots had been trained. Two among them have been arrested. The rest could be hiding among the internally displaced persons (in refugee camps)," Hinduatan Times quoted the officer.
A United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee investigation in 2006 revealed that the Government of Eritrea was providing direct military assistance to Sri Lanka's Tamil Tiger rebels.
A Colombo based magazine in August said in a report that Sri Lankan army found 12 fighter planes belonging to the LTTE at an airport in Eritrea from the information given by the LTTE's arms dealer Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP who is now in Sri Lankan custody.
Sri Lanka is seeking to establish diplomatic relations with Eritrea in an effort to counter the LTTE international network which is said to be still active despite the arrest of their self-appointed leader KP.

American human rights activist forced to cancel her trip to Delhi

NEW DELHI: American physician and human rights activist Ellyn Shander - known for her outspoken views on the alleged atrocities on Sri Lankan Tamils - was forced to cancel her trip to Delhi when Indianixed her visa on the eve of departure. Her visa was valid till July 15, 2014.
Shander, awarded the Bruno Lima award for her work in disaster psychiatry and humanitarianism, was due to address a meet arranged by the Delhi Tamil Students Union on “genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka.”
A letter issued by the Indian consulate in New York on September 10 informed her that her visa was cancelled with immediate effect. Shanders was due to travel on September 11 for India.
Addressing the 200-strong gathering through a taped message at the India Islamic Centre on Thursday, Shander, who is vice-president of the Tamil Political Action Council in US, was scathing in her indictment of the Rajapaksa government. About an estimated 3 million Tamils are currently living in rehabilitation camps since the war with LTTE ended earlier this year.
Comparing the Sri Lankan government to Nazis, Shanders made an emotional speech about the plight of Tamils in the country and how the Indian government had turned a blind eye to the atrocities.
Describing the lack of food, sanitation and water at the rehabilitation camps, Shanders said that international agencies, journalists and observers had been forced out by the Sri Lankan government. Demanding that New Delhi take up the cause, she said, “We are asking the Indian government to save the Tamils of India from extinction. Liberate the concentration camps.”
MDMK leader Vaiko, who was also present on the occasion, roundly criticised the Manmohan Singh government for aiding Lanka in the “genocide.” He termed the government’s plan to send a delegation of MPs to Sri Lanka as mere “eyewash.”
“We resolve to move the United Nations to take action to ensure the removal of illegal settlements of Sinhalese created by the Lankan government... these must be restored to the Tamil people,” Vaiko said.
Accusing the Indian government of conspiring with the Rajapaksa government, Vaiko said, “India has betrayed the cause of the Tamil people. The Indian government is responsible for the demolition of the LTTE movement.” - (Times of India)

According to a 1921 National Geographic, a temporary tent city of 50,000 was set-up during the season, and the Arab divers wearing nose-clips only would dive to the sea bed to retrieve the pearls. These divers were around even in the 1960s according to one of my family member. In the early 1950s the Ceylon Government did not regulate the pearl fisheries, and thus destroyed them for ever.
As Sujeewa has indicated from ancient times, Sri Lanka's main exports (mostly to India) were elephants, ebony, and precious stones. Sri Lanka supplied these things even up to the late Mogul period in India. When the Romans landed in Chichester, UK in 40 AD they brought some elephants with them to scare the native Celtic tribes. Who knows, these elephants may have come from Sri Lanka ?

Few facts I forgot.
- It can well be traded by arabs, not necessarily Romans

ACMA finds two breaches of SBS code in Tamil Language Program
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has found that the Special Broadcasting Service (SBS) breached the SBS Codes of Practice 2006 in broadcasts of the SBS radio program Tamil Language Program on 26 October 2008 and 18 January 2009. Both programs dealt with aspects of the conflict between the Sri Lankan Government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
The broadcast on 26 October 2008 included an interview with a critic of the Sri Lankan Government. The ACMA found that the requirement for balance in the SBS code was breached, as the interview included themes on which no other view was provided.

Sept 28, Colombo: Sri Lankan troops engaged in continuing search and clear operations in the former battle zones made a startling discovery yesterday (27) in the Kappukulam area of Mullaitivu.
Troops of the Task Force-8 conducting search operations in the area unearthed parts of a C1 307 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and some parts of LTTE aircraft kept buried by the LTTE rebels.
Parts of the UAV recovered included the engine, parts of an UAV camera, two UAV wings, two front wheels, a small rear wheel, 8 training bombs, 3 dropping bombs, 4 bags with damaged parts of an UAV, an oxygen cylinder and an aircraft engine.
The military believes the LTTE had brought the spare parts to be used for their clandestine aerial assignments and buried them before they fled the areas as the troops moved in.
Task Force-8 troops also recovered a haul of military items including ten Claymore mines of 1.5 kg, one Claymore mine of 5 kg, five 82mm mortar bombs, five 60mm mortar bombs, two T-56 weapons from the Puthukkudiyiruppu area of Mullaitivu.
I believe C1 307 UAV is Chinese.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that some noted LTTE leaders in the custody of Colombo are likely to be made to collaborate a Colombo-US formula of ‘reconciliation,’ nullifying national aspirations of Eezham Tamils. The recent visit of Colombo’s defense secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and foreign minister Rohita Bogollagama to the US was in fact aimed to discuss the details, sources in Colombo said.
