Sit Rep 31 Oct 2009

A cautionary note on the present situation re Gen Fonseka. Our task was to allow things to settle down on their own which has worked. However, recent developments led particularly by a section of the diaspora Sinhalese is a cause of concern for DefenceWire.

DefenceWire team's stance up to now has been to avoid commenting on this dispute knowing fully well the capacity of both the present government and SF to come to a compromise on:

1. The direction the Sri Lankan Military will take
2. The direction General Fonseka would have to go

These may not be the most ideal directions for either, yet they are ones that are at best described as realistic and unavoidable.

There are many moves by politically motivated Sri Lankans, including Sinhala groups and also non Sinhala Sri Lankan groups to exploit a disagreement that has unnecessarily spilled over into the public's eye due to politics in the military and a very small section of the military in politics.

These groups, particularly those civilians involved who are not insiders or have little inside information can or will not understand the discipline of a professional soldier to take what he wants and to relinquish duty when required sans insubordination.

A professional soldier is not Dutugemunu. The Sri Lanka Army/Military is a modern Army/Military positioned within a democratic society. The professional soldiers serving in it will know when to let go. By asking them to perform a larger role based solely on selfish motives of individuals in the periphery, they may destroy that soldier and even themselves and their reputation.

The Sri Lankan Military and its leaders are now hailed the world over for their victorious feat. Their role in bringing peace to the country through military means will be remembered for decades to come as the ultimate example of a trained military executing its sacred task flawlessly from start to finish. But remember this, dear readers, military action is a means of achieving the end and the end is always political.

DefenceWire, as an impartial site whose work you have witnessed for over 3 years now wish to appeal to our readers to refrain from joining or supporting either 'camps' and to allow the professional soldier and professional politicians to resolve potentially resolvable issues mentioned above.

Thank you

CID is investigating danuna's deals.

if done properly that will unearth heaps of corruption and collaborators.

i hear they are getting ready to investigate corruption when AUTISM FERNANDO was the defence secretary.

at that time, US$ 1,000,000,000 was spent on war but there was NO WAR!!!!

helicopters, hoovercraft, gun boats, etc. purchased during that time were in such shambles that they couldn't be used.

danuna's surname is spelt in a certain VERY UNCOMMON WAY.

although there are 1,000s of "tilakarathna"s, there are only 10 in SLT directory with his particular spelling.

hashan "tillakaratne" (not sure this is the spelling) is one of them. he is into (K)UNA politics big time. he was into politics 10 years b4 secretly.

that's why in 2001 UNF appointed him as the test captain and mervin as ODI captain stripping sanath of captaincy FOR NO REASON.

can hashan t may ALSO be behind the political game???? only time will tell.

Stop the general by legitimate means but not by mud slinging

I think that the General becoming the President of Sri Lanka could be almost like Devil becoming the President. Even though I am not certain about this, his past and current behaviour give indications in this direction. “Why take chances?” is the question I put to the voters.

Therefore it is necessary his election to the top position is prevented in legitimate manner. I am not sure what is being done here (in Asian Tribune) is pure mud slinging. For example, if there were a mig deal it cannot be blamed on the General. Is the Asian Tribune trying to say something about Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksha? AT needs to come clean about this.

Also in the article heading itself there is an indication that there is deliberate killing of innocent Tamil people by the Army. By any means this will not be acceptable to any decent Sri Lankan. The people will resent such treatment of innocents.

If AT is accusing as such it needs to come clearly about this.

As I see it the war has been conducted with utmost care possible. Many soldiers sacrificed their lives and limbs to save Sri Lankan Nation and Tamil lives.

Any sincere accusation of killing innocents deliberately needs to come with this honest observation of sacrifices made by soldiers.

If this is pure mud slinging it needs to be stopped. Still the true facts of the General's behaviour need to be put in front of the people so that they can make a better judgment. Mud slinging is amount to deprive this right of voters.

I need to add further. Among all corruptions, corruption related to war materials, army uniforms or food purchase for the army is the most heinous. That kind of corruption is amount to selling limbs and corpses of our real war heroes. One reason that the war continued for this long was is that for our politicians and generals war was a business. No only those generals and politicians sold limbs and corpses of our heroes to make a pity buck they also sold our Nation and lives and limbs of innocent public by creating a situation for suicide killings to be continued.

Thanks!

Guys dont believe the Asian tribune crap. All presented their are lies, there is no evidence produced against Danuna or Gen. Fonseka.  None of these individuals or Ranil, or Mangala are corrupt, there is no evidence for that. The only truth in that story is the mig deal where the Raja bro's pocketed millions, It is the Raja brothers who are the only corrupts in this country not Ranil, Mangala or Gen. Fonseka.

First they steal our mony by the mig deal

Then they steal our gold.

That is why he did not support the war effort.

That is why Thoppigal became just a forest for him?

That is why he did everything possible to stop the war by conspiring with LTTE agents.

I am against mud slinging at any party. I am a utopian. For the voters, to make the right choice, truths we sincerely felt needed to be put in front of voters; not the mud slinging stories, slanders created by either side for just political expedience..

Me think there is such a dishonest campaign against the government too.

Do not think that I am saying that the Government is innocent or the General is innocent. In fact in my view general could have crossed the line being undemocratic even when he was the general (jumping ahead the president to announce VP’s death. Who is he to do that?) and last week he has written a letter to military personnel to instigate them. That is not on.

Anti-cora you are trying to say that illegitimate manner is not ok against the general but that is ok against the government. This is depriving the right of voters to choose.

Have a nice day.

http://www.tamilnation.org/books/Eelam/deception.htm

The book "By Way of Deception: The making and Unmasking of a Mossad Officer" came out in the 90s. It was written by Victor Ostrovsky a Mossad agent. At the time it caused some ripples becase of the claim made by Ostrovsky about Israel training both Sri Lankan naval officers and Tamil militants in the same naval base in Israel. If it was done it was probably done at the behest of India since India was actively supporting Tamil militants during that era.

After writing the book, Ostrovsky who was a dual Israeli and Candian citizen was snatched by Mossad in Italy and I think that the was the last anyone heard of him. The person reffered to as Penny, whom Ostrovsky describes as JR's daugher, is actually Ravi Jayawardene's first wife. They have since divorced.

General Sinha Ranataunga in his memoires published earlier this year confirms at least some aspects of the early relationship.
After the 1983 riots no country other than China and Pakistan was willing to sell arms to Sri Lanka. JRJ sent his son Ravi to meet Shimon Peres. According to Gen Ranatunga, one of the arguments that Ravi Jayawardene made to convince Simon Peres was that militants were being training by the PFLP in Lebanon's Bekka Valley.

Reading through this book one realizes what a long way the Sri Lanka military has come since the early days of eelam war I. It would be a shame if some petty squabbles between certain personalities will undo what has taken thirty years to build.

There is a drastic diff in UNP/Ranil and SLFP/MR. Prior thinks he chooses right thing for ppl and ppl has to accept it. Latter thinks ppl choose the right thing and it is his duty to accept it and implement it at best.

This difference is one major reason for ppl to hate UNP/Ranil. Even today you go to raod and scream, "hey, I am a RW supporter", and not all the rotten eggs are thrown by SLFPers, even some who traditionally worked with UNP will do that.

politically too it is advantageous to SLFP to maintain the split. when one supports one main party more, the other supports the other. it is also a good tool to manipulate paramilitants for the benefit of the rulers.

“They collected funds for the LTTE during the period 2001 to 2005 during which there was an agreement between the LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran and the then Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe,” most eminent French lawyers hired by the LTTE told the 3-Member Judiciary Bench. “Hence, they cannot be guilty of terrorism charges,” they argued.

Tamils, Muslims ‘to go beyond 13th Amendment’

November 22, 2009 01:05 am

Tamil and Muslim political leaders in Sri Lanka say they have agreed for wider devolution of power for Sri Lanka’s minorities.

Mano Ganesan, leader of Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA) told BBC that the leaders who met in Switzerland during the week end agreed for devolution that goes beyond the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

“Although the war has ended, the struggle for Tamil rights have not,” said the DPA leader.

The meeting, at the initiative of several Tamil and western non governmental organisations, was attended by several political parties representing almost all shades of Tamil and Muslim political opinion.

This is the first of such meeting in the recent past, aiming for political consensus on issues concerning Sri Lanka’s Tamil and Muslim minorities.

Political leaders representing opposition and governing alliances attended the meeting.

Leaders of the main Tamil parliamentary party the Tamil National Alliance as well as Tamils of Indian origin took part.

Apart from devolution of power, the leaders, some government ministers among them, discussed matters related to human rights situation, disappearances of Tamils and continued detention of internally displaced people (IDPs), Mr. Ganesan said.

A proposal to discuss the highly anticipated presidential election was rejected due to strong opposition by Ministers Douglas Devananda and Arumungam Thondaman as well as himself, added Mr. Ganesan. – (BBC)

Still isn't it worth. Obviously, houses can't be given fro free as you suggest. But what is wrong in giving for a fair concession.

"speaking to defence.lk said that the cost of each three roomed house with bathroom, pantry and a ten perch land was Rs. 1.4 million. The government has borne Rs. 600,000 of the total cost and the remaining Rs. 800,000 was given as interest free loans to the recipients which are expected to be recovered within ten to fifteen years."

Notice they are interest free loans.

In fact it is good to make them earn for it, w/o making them getting it all free.

"Also, the housing scheme is provided with a Super Market, a Bank of Ceylon branch, a primary school a daycare unit and a well equipped hospital "

These were given free.

A Palestinian military court has sentenced a man to death by hanging for selling land to an Israeli company.

Land sales are considered treason by the Palestinians because of their long-running dispute with the Israelis, however the sentence is unlikely to be implemented.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas routinely withholds the required approval for executions. Several others are on death row as suspected informants for Israel."

..but some interesting comments there..

"Srilanka after May 19 th is in a confused state. As they had been fighting ,fighting for 30 years when the enemy is not there they do not know what to do and are in a coma status. Possibly they should either themselves sell to China or annexe them to India and learn admin from either china or India. After by2060 they can start another freedom struggle[ If srilanka exists at that point in time as gloabl warming and glaciers melting may have sinked this little beautiful teardrop island."

Think of the bigger picture.. have we not learnt any lessons?

They may be bogus, economic refugees but are sowing the seeds for future discord, they will continue to be a thorn in Sri Lankan affairs.

The 1970's and 1983 refugees were the same who "allegdy" bribed lobbied the western world to highlight crises in SL.

It will not suprise me these very same refugees or next generation will hound SL in 10, 15 years time.

We may be fllipant and amuse ourselves with these reports, if history repeats itself its not funny!]

Jay, my dear Eelamoid,

From start to finish, the EELAM PROJECT was a racist aparthied concept grounded in the notion that Sri Lanka could be BROWBEATEN into accepting it.

Did you ever wonder why even after 30 years of CON ARTISTRY, RAPING WELFARE SYSTEMS of unsuspecting western nations, MURDERING ALL DISSENTERS among one's own people, ENSLAVING EVERY TAMIL within their grasp, ABDUCTING & CONVERTING impressionable underage children into suicide bombers, EXPELLING PEOPLE from their own homes to populate a diaspora held captive by a global LTTE MAFIA, BLOWING THOUSANDS of innocents to bits, hiding behind one's own people as HUMAN SHIELDS even at the last moment to save the LTTE MAFIA leadership, ETHNIC CLEANSING land in the North and East of their constituent ethnic minorities, REWRITING SRI LANKA's HISTORY .. ad nauseam failed to achieve you TAMIL EELAM in Sri Lanka?

Well, if you Eelamoids had bothered to read and appreciate the struggle of the Sinhala people to preserve their land free of invaders over two and a half millenia, you would understand that bigger and better enemies than you have tried it before and abjectly FAILED.

The Cholas from the time of Dutugamunu tried it and were expelled with their bag and baggage. The Portuguese tried over 200 years and had Four Armies annhilated trying to conquer Kandy and were often reduced to eating cats and dogs in Colombo Fort. So much so, that the Portuguese Viceroy wrote to Lisbon requesting Sri Lanka be abandoned because the wars in Sri Lanka cost more than all other Portuguese colonies combined. The Dutch fared little better. Even the British; lost two armies fighting Kandy, and never defeated the Kandyans in battle.

There is no comparable record of a small agrarian Asian nation fending off 4 European powers with their then state of the art military technology, for over 400 years. Every advantage of the invaders was negated by indigenous military weapons and strategies using our Sinhala Brains .. yes those very BRAINS that you Eelamoids refused to accept calling us MODAYAS. Well, looks like the MODAYAS won, and the highly intelligent superior beings of TAMIL EELAM got well and truly annahilated, like all other enemies of Sri Lanka of Old.

My suggestion to you is this:

Forget an Eelam in Sri Lanka .. it will NEVER HAPPEN as long as we Sinhalese live in our Ratna Deepa Janma Bhumi.

On the other hand, guided by our Buddhist traditions, we are prepared to live in amity with all minorities in Sri Lanka on the basis of EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL RESPONSIBILITIES in ONE NATION, as ONE PEOPLE with a SHARED COMMON DESTINY.

There will be NO SPECIAL RIGHTS for any ethnic community in Sri Lanka, and no separate ETHNIC homelands.

Persisting in trying to disrupt Sri Lanka in search of an Eelam here in Lanka, WILL NOT WORK. It will only result in completing the your own community that the Eelamoids started. So, have pity on your own people, and let them live in amity and friendship with the other communities of Lanka, as we had before you racists started demanding special rights.

In view of the hand grenade that blew up in the face of the HIGHLY INTELLIGENT INFINITELY SUPERIOR Eelamoids, just as they were getting ready to throwing it at us SINHALA MODAYAS, I think we who suffered at the hands of these marauding EELAMOIDS are entitled to some measure of FLIPPANCY as they begin to alienate the rest of the world as well.

ALL tamil and muslim parties were invited to attend the zurich meeting. parties in the govt (UPFA) were not invited as govt is supposed to get their support for 13+.

ALL other tamil and muslim parties on principle 100% support racial devolution.

this is what they are going to do.

Even now, the Eelamoids have not learned how to respect the laws of other countries, and to live in good fellowship with the majority communities of those countries. They are still trying to exploit the just and fair laws to break-in illegally into those countries, exploit their welfare systems, flout their laws engaging in criminal activities, browbeat other refugees of other communities .. the same old tactics they used in the past. Sometime soon, these countries are going to wise up and shut the door in your collective face .. it had better be sooner and not later if they want to preserve peace within their own societies.

In Australia, soon the Eelamoids may demand a TAMIL EELAM OF AUSTRALIA solely for themselves, rewriting history to establish kinship with the original native Australians, and demand a "historical homeland."

We Sri Lankans having defended our Fortress Lanka from these marauders with our blood, sweat, and tears, will watch from far, with glee, as the holier-than-thou Australians who preach incessantly to Lanka, rush to cope with the onslaught against their country. I am certain the current crop of die-hard Eelamoids will do their worst against Sri Lanka .. but we will weather that and more, just as our ancestors did against the colonialists over 400 years. Don't let it worry your Highly Intelligent Superior Mind about it; we Patriotic MODAYAS will SURVIVE and THRIVE in the years ahead!

Dear gentlmen,

Yesterday I published about N&E merger. I am sorry, forgot to give the source of the information.

http://www.lankatruth.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3880:attempt-again-to-merge-northern-a-eastern-provinces-&catid=35:local&Itemid=50

what JRJ did immediately after the signing of the indo-lanka accord? He merge N&E. the merger was in place till SC declared as merger is illegal.

Who wanted the merger? Answer is india.

What is the guarantee that such a merger will not taken place in future?

Had MR, GR, SF put the country before self today we are much secured and current volatile situation wouldn’t have been arose. But greediness to the power blinded all three. There is a high chance of merger since everybody tries to grab the power and retain in the power.

It is reported that MR alarmed India about a military coup. India is looking every possible opportunity to setup a military base or footing here. Recall what they did for the Maldives.

Do you think this kind of ‘invited invasion’ will give any benefit to the country?

If MR really love to the country than retain in power he could have had a great and close relationship with SF. We all know with SF national defence is more secured.

MR can again merge the N&E by giving a fictitious reason due to the pressure from India.

During the final phase of the war, MR faced western lobby and their henchmen as a true king because entire forces and the patriotic people rally around him.

Today everything is distanced except Anar-kali, Dr. Maravin and corrupted bunch.

Now no more love to country…it is matter of grab the power.

Had MR maintained a cordial relationship with SF specially, he would have a cake walk in Presidential and general elections. There was no doubt about 2/3 also.

He had the chance of govern the country forever but lost everything due to the wrong mindset and the immature guidance. Had he love the country he never appointed that crook PBJ as secretary of the finance.

South Asia Analysis

What would be India’s preference between Rajapaksa and Fonseka as president of Sri Lanka?

I think Rajapaksa has a better equation with Indian leadership. He is a seasoned politician who has cultivated the Indian leaders over the years. On Tamil autonomy issue he has no great differences with India, although he has pushed it down in his list of priorities for political reasons.

General Fonseka has his networking more with Indian military leadership than with political leaders. His strong views smacking of Sinhala nationalism rather than Sri Lanka nationalism makes Government of India uncomfortable. On the other hand, the UNP - his main supporter in the presidential election - has good rapport with New Delhi. In particular, the UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has the ear of New Delhi and that could be an advantage for the General in putting India at ease.

But there are also political compulsions of New Delhi that condition its Sri Lanka policy. The ruling coalition’s partners from Tamil Nadu, particularly the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi, always have a say in shaping it. Tamil Nadu political leaders will not be happy to see Fonseka as the president. That would be an advantage for Rajapaksa by default. So overall, India would probably prefer Rajapaksa to continue as president.

South Asia Analysis

Do you think India would have positively responded to Sri Lanka’s request for troops to control a possible coup attempt?

India has always had close relations with Sri Lanka. In the past India had responded to Sri Lanka’s requests for military support to avert possible coups. When massive protest was building up in Colombo after the signing of India-Sri Lanka Agreement in 1987, President JR Jayawardane feared the possibility of an army coup to topple him. To avert this he sought Indian assistance. India promptly sent two warships to Colombo with troops stationed on board presumably to discourage such an attempt.

President Rajapaksa has built close relations with Indian leadership. Probably he made no major move that would impact India's strategic relations with his country without consulting India. However, this is not at all unusual in view of the strong bonds of friendship that exists between the two countries, Sri Lanka leaders have always made it a point to keep India on the information loop. Definitely India would not have been happy if the armed forces toppled the elected government of Rapaksa. Though I am not privy to the decisions of India’s Ministry of Defence, in all probablility India would have responded positively to any request for assistance from the Sri Lankan President.

5. Collusion with LTTE suporters like Mano Ganeshan.

6. Handed over SLA LRRP and MI operatives to LTTE.

7. Tried to stall economy by choking foreign investments and GSP+.

November 23, 2009 05:49 pm

United National Party General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, in response to the earlier report by Adaderana said that no such decision has been reached regarding the common opposition Presidential candidate.

In a response to an earlier news report by Adaderana, Mr. Attanayake said that that no such decision has been taken regarding General Sarath Fonseka as the common opposition candidate for the Presidential election.

However, the party’s Deputy General Secretary Lakshman Seneviratne this morning told Adaderana that General Sarath Fonseka’s name has been confirmed as the common candidate from the Opposition.

Did you see this?

The mixed signals going out are such that some people have begun saying that both the UNP and the JVP are trying to hoodwink the government into thinking that splits have emerged within their ranks over the fielding of General Fonseka as the common opposition candidate, and having lulled the government into a false feeling of security, and tricked them into declaring a presidential election first, they would suddenly close ranks and field General Sarath Fonseka as the common candidate of the united opposition.

Re: General's possibilities of winning [say odds of winning].

Current:

A: MR vote base = 60% [includes almost all floating voters]

B: RW Sinhala base = 20%
C: Gonason+RW+TNA minority base = 10%
D: JVP base = 5%
E: Anti RW UNP base = 5%

SF has B, D, E secured, that sums upto 30. W/o penetrating A, still SF has the challenge of retaining C. And still he can make to 40.

He needs 10 more. 15mill voters, and a 80% voter turnaround means, 12mill. and 10% is a mere 12lacks of votes.

Taking a big 10% chunk off A would be hard. However MR has to behave very well. Another SPC black magic will take him down the drain.

BTW, [as a friend of mine pointed out today] note that Thonda votes, Athaulla votes, TMVP votes all packed in A. MR will have to secure them. This is perhaps the weakest link of MR thus far.

Note that there can be a tamil candidate from TNA [Mr+India trick]. Plus RW may save MR by contesting on top of SF. SF candidature may break UNP too. So MR can still count of little trick or two as well.

..............
Fonseka willing to negotiate with Mano

by Norman Palihawadana

Former Army Chief General Sarath Fonseka yesterday said that he was ready to negotiate with Opposition political parties regarding any conditions for nominating him as the common presidential candidate.

Fonseka yesterday told The Island that there was nothing wrong in discussing conditions though some may find fault with such a strategy. Fonseka said that in keeping with his policy, he could discuss with Western People’s Front leader Mano Ganeshan, MP his conditions to facilitate an agreement.

Meanwhile, Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to President Mahinda Rajapaksa told The Island that the President had given the retired General time to stay at the General’s House at Buller’s Road and there was absolutely no truth in accusations that there was a move to ‘throw Gen. Fonseka and his wife out on to the streets’.

Both the JVP and the UNP have already initiated negotiations with Fonseka though there is final agreement.

Opposition and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe last Wednesday said that Fonseka’s nomination as Presidential candidate was subject to his acceptance of the UNF’s ten-point policy statement. Mano Ganeshan has subscribed to the UNF’s statement.

Wickremesinghe said that a decision on the Opposition presidential candidate would be taken only after an election was announced and he was confident that Fonseka had a clear understanding of the UNF policies.

"There is no reason to assume that General Fonseka is not a democrat," he said.

Among the conditions put forward for Fonseka’s candidature are that he must abolish the executive presidency or substantially reduces its powers in the event of being elected President, provide the TNA and JVP important portfolios in his Cabinet, ensure the speedy resettlement of northern IDPs, establish all the independent commissions required to ensure good governance and appoint Wickremesinghe as the caretaker Prime Minister.

Defence Secretary advocates reconciliation and development

Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday called on all patriotic Sri Lankans to get together, putting their differences aside, and work towards the resurgence of the nation to reap the rewards of peace as one people.

"This is our duty to our motherland, and we must not let her down", the Defence Secretary said in his concluding remarks after delivering the Olcott oration, under the theme 'future challenges facing Sri Lanka: Security, Reconciliation and Development.'

"The true victory against terrorism is not just the defeat of the LTTE, but reaping the true rewards of peace by recapturing what was lost during the conflict".

"Making maximum use of peace to unite as a nation, to bring about the development and prosperity that this country richly deserves, and to reap the rewards of peace is the responsibility of all our citizens", the Defence Secretary added.

He said for these things to happen, it is essential that we all unite at this pivotal stage in our history, and speak with one voice to say that the uncertainty is no more, to say that we are safe;to say that we are ready to create a bright and prosperous future for all our people, irrespective of race, religion or politics.

He said instead of falling into the trap of complacency, petty rivalry and divisive politics that have so often been our downfall, we must unite as a nation and build a better future together.

"It is only then that the true reward of our victory over terrorism will be fully realised", he said.

He said the consolidating the peace, reconciliation of communities and the economic revival must be the focus of the country from now on.

He pointed out that although the LTTE has been defeated it was important to note that it was mainly the military wing that has been dismantled and its international network of sympathizers and criminal associates, and some of their military cadres are still operating outside Sri Lanka.

"It is only these elements have also been defeated that we can claim to have truly secured our nation. To prevent the LTTE raising its head again, we should act now and act decisively to bring about their defeat", Rajapaksa added.

Ananda-USA said...

Defence Secretary advocates reconciliation and development

....continued....

Pointing out that the Government has taken several initiatives in this regard such as strengthening relationships with key nations to destroy the LTTE international network, the Defence Secretary added that there is still more to be done, and developing these relationship even further will be vital to Sri Lanka's efforts to permanently dismantle the LTTEs' international network.

Emphasizing the need to countering the propaganda offensives still being launched by LTTE sympathizers around the world distorting the view some countries have on Sri Lanka, he said that it was essential that the West understands that Sri Lanka's war against terrorism is little different from theirs.

"Instead of accepting the propaganda offensive of terrorist sympathizers in their corridors of power, the countries that are still mounting pressure on Sri Lanka should understand that we all face similar challenges. Instead of criticizing our success, they should learn from it", he added

Emphasizing the fact that the Government has taken initiative to bring normalcy to the liberated areas, resettlement and the return of democracy the Defence Secretary said that some of those looking at the present situation in Sri Lanka are quick to criticize the Government for not acting quick enough.

"They expect changes to happen overnight, and they ignore the hard facts of reality that have always shown us that true change is only possible with wise planning, diligence, hard work and time", he added.

He sited the developments in the Eastern province after it was liberated from the clutches of the LTTE as an example where Government achieve all development, de-militarisation, disarm of para-military groups.

"We are confident that the same result can be obtained in the North, and that reconciliation and national unity will be achieved in due course", he said.

Friends let me tell you about a very disturbing development I observed. You guys know about my blunt style of criticisms, I'm a straight shooter. When I see a development that is bad for the future of the country I criticize that and the people involved with it, at the same time I try to be cautious not to provide weapons to the enemies.

Some of you don't like my style, some even say I see crocodiles in a bowl, regardless here is what I observed.

After the MR government came into power, many minority parties joined the government. Unlike earlier times they joined government shedding their extremist demands. The Muslim congress (Ferial Ashraff team), are not demanding excessive benefits for the Muslim electorates, Karunan dropped Federalism, devolution and even Eelam name from his party. Even before the defeat of terrorism, separatism was being defeated by Mahinda Rajapaksha.

After the defeat of terrorism many observers believed many parties would shed separatism and advocate for unitary state. The extremist separatist like Mano Ganeshan, Rauff Hakkem, Wikramabahu Karunarathna, and Sirithunga Jayasooriya, seeing this trend flocked to one place.

But recently extremist parties that met in Switzerland has declared that "Tamil struggle" is not over and have decided to demand for 13+. What reversed the defeat of separatism? Even the LTTE candidates were defeated at the Trans national government elections, the LTTE organized in Norway. There seems to be some factor that has emboldened the extremists, separatist. Suddenly they are back in action, they have political power, , they put forth conditions for candidates, they can influence the major parties to kneel for their demands.

Who is responsible for the revival of the ugly racist extremists in this country. I point my finger at one man, Sarath Fonseka. How far can one man's greed could take us?

A Disturbing Development.

The governmnet had identified about 10, 000 LTTE carders amoung IDPs , they would have let the IDPs go at that time and prosecuted the LTTE carders for armed revolution against the sate, they would have made some of the identified carders informants, and persue other LTTErs that escaped scrutiny.

Something seems to have put the governmnet off tarck on this?

I wonder what? :-)

did DHS actually try to question SF?????

the MOST DHS can go is...

"Human Rights Violators and War Crimes
In April 2008, ICE established the Human Rights Violators and War Crimes program. This program targets those individuals who have entered the United States under false and/or fraudulent pretenses and have been linked or associated to regimes and/or countries engaged in war crimes, torture, or genocide." - DHS

SF didn't "enter the United States under false and/or fraudulent pretenses".

so he would not be questioned.

if u look at ALL the news reports, the source is SL which can be traced back to SF's telephone call to GR.

Those who are in power always use everything available to them to succeed.
Whatever, said and done MR did a great service to the country by eliminating terrorists. SF is also did his part for the country whatever happens in future. Only RW and Mangala clan have done nothing but treason.
People have to be generous for all of them, when the time comes to vote. RW is deserved to lose everything including leadership. I don’t mind whether it is MR or SF as long as they promised to keep country united.

Well informed sources told The Island that the JVP had been reluctant to accept Wickremesinghe as their (joint opposition) prime ministerial candidate though General Fonseka strongly supported the UNP condition. Sources said that General Fonseka had emphasised the importance of resolving the issue immediately to enable them to move forward. The former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) has said that fielding of a common candidate would very much depend on an early settlement of this issue."

Victor Ivan has made some interesting observations about the MR Government in comparison to previous regimes. His article appeared in last week's Sunday Times:

http://www.thesundayleader.lk/2009/11/22/the-future-of-president-mahinda-rajapaksa-2/

His observations and my anecdotal observations of our heads of states are below:

JR Jayawardene: Autocrat who trusted no one and who listened to no one except his brother Hector and son Ravi. Made all the big decisions and did not solicit anyone's opinions on issues such as the IPKF arrival and the Indo-Sri Lankan agreement. Fixed his main political opponent by depriving her of civic rights and fixed the supreme court by sacking them. Victor Ivan says that large scale corruption was introduced under the JRJ regime.

Premadasa: autocrat but with a smart group of close advisors (KH Wijedasa, Bradman Weerakone, Paskaralingam, and Susil Siriwardene). The impeachment attempt made him paranoid about everyone. He will go down in Sri Lanka history as the ruler under whom the the most number of people were killed.

Dingiri Banda Wijetunga: Old deaf and dumb seems to have had a sense of social responsibility and tried to undo some of the excesses of the Premadasa regime.

Chandrika: Victor Ivan's label for her "Chaura Rajina" or the Bandit Queen is very approriate. The Gopallawas, Ratwattes, and Bandaranayakes all came back. In addition to family nepotism, she plundered the wealth of the State as if it was her private property. Her unsound mental state lead to people like Prof GL Peris and others crossing over to the UNP.

Rajapakse regime: The following quotes are from Victor Ivan's article

"the most prominent weakness he has exhibited as a state leader is that he has not selected a team of high calibre, experienced, unbiased officers who could assist him in the governance of the State. In lieu, of the experienced and clever, he selected people from among his friends or relations."

"When a human-being gets exalted to the status of a god, the people who pay reverence to him do not expect the behaviour of a human-being from him. After exaltation as a god, if he is unable to adopt the behavior of a god, his going into a crisis cannot be prevented. In a political sense, President Mahinda Rajapaksa is facing a similar crisis."

About three months ago he dedicated his two books on the war to General Fonseka at a ceremony at the public library in Colombo. These books are the most comprehensive accounts of eelam war IV that are currently available. I highly reccomend them. His last column in the Nation was about a month ago. He never hid the fact that he was close to the General. OAOA,

but i maintain that it is good for patriots IF SF contests from UNP/UNF/UNA or whatever that comes INSTEAD of RW.

we can bargain.

once in the PE race, SF need not ask RW what to do. he will decide for himself. after handing over nominations, there is NOTHING UNP or JVP can do.

SF can be EASILY manipulated by patriots. his fear of losing patriots is more than his fear of losing the election.

let him talk to any toilet and become the PE candidate from (K)UNA.

we know how to handle him. we can go to him with the patriotic begging bowl and demand to scrap 13, etc. and he has NO CHOICE than to agree!!

IF he wins and does that well and good. who cares??

IF he loses, still fine. MR will win.

only problem is what if he wins and play by RW.

he won't.

whenever he spoke his heart out, he made it clear he stands by SL (and sinhalas - i personally don't care about this part).

but is is very unlikely RW ponnaya will allow SF to contest from his party.

IF SF and UNP/UNA/UNF both contest seperately, there is some trouble of dividing patriotic voters. few voters, but we need a plan for that.

IF he comes as the third candidate, we should treat him like the third candidate.

generally the third candidate is an ass clown and ALWAYS A UNP arse licker at that time. hope SF will not fall into that.

1982 - wijewira
1988 - ossi

Interesting theories...and you may well be bang-on in what you say.

However, I am more inclined to go with a strict "risk-reward" mindset here...and that in my mind is that when we are faced with a danger to our "ONE SRI LANKA," then it is time to go on the offensive whereby we need to TERMINATE WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE our enemies (like how we did with the LTTE armed bitches not long ago!).

Do not take risks unless you have no choice - that should be our motto going forward!

Opponents must be exposed, ridiculed, and cast aside like mangy, cum-dripping whoredogs (as Motherlanka's sovereignty and UNITARY status is sacred compared to anybody's well-being and/or ego for that matter!)

The old fart is upset over the Indian Govt's plans to fine fisherman who go over the 12 nautical mile territorial boundary. See his reasons. Its no secret that both the major and minor political parties in TN want Kachchativu returned to India. Thanks to Mrs B. India ceded Kachchativu Island to Sri Lanka in the 1970s. The Island is closer to Sri Lankan than it is to India so this is a logical outcome. However, this act has never been recognized by TN. They feel that is is their God given right to retrieve Kachchativu and to fish on the Mannar fishing basin, which is one of the most productive remaining fisheries in the world.

Karunanidhi protests move for a tough fishing law
Tue, 2009-11-24 01:38 — editor
India
From S Murari, Chennai
Chennai, 24 November, (Asiantribune.com):
M. KarunanidhiTamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Monday asked the Government of India to reconsider its move to impose a heavy fine on fishermen who go beyond the permitted 12 nautical miles for fishing and said it would particularly affect Tamil Nadu fishermen.

In a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, copies of which have been released to the media, Mr Karunanidhi said the proposed Marine Fisheries(Regulation and management) Bill 2009 would be detrimental to fishermen, particularly those from Tamil Nadu who fish in the narrow Palk Bay that separates India and Sri Lanka and who are often subjected to "harassment" by the Sri Lankan navy.

He also said marine fish production was already exhausted in territorial waters and introduction of the bill without consulting the fishermen community and other stakeholders would have wider implications.

Mr Karunanidhi said the proposal in the bill to impose a fine of Rs 9 lakh and a jail term of three months for fishing beyond India's territorial waters without licence was severe and impracticable as no fishing boat can fish even in Indian waters beyond 12 nautical miles.

The proposal "is against the schemes that are being implemented by the Union and State governments for encouraging fishermen to tap the under exploited offshore resources for commercial species like Tuna which fetch substantial foreign exchange", Mr Karunanidhi said.

He said the clause requiring fishermen to get a second licence for deep sea fishing would pave way for duplication of licensing system, create confusion and compound the misery of the fishermen.

Observing it was practically impossible to physically prevent fishermen from fishing beyond 12 nautical miles in the absence of clear-cut geographical zoning, the Chief Minister urged Mr Pawar to ensure that deep sea fishing vessels registered under the Merchant Shipping Act/Mercantile Marine Department (MMD) alone were brought under the purview of this clause.

He urged Mr Pawar to initiate a dialogue with stakeholders and consider suggestions made by all State Governments before tabling the bill in Parliament.

The Chief Minister also urged Mr Pawar to add a provision that the views of the State government concerned should be obtained in the interests of the fishing community.

I will never forgive SF if he is to pave the way for RW to win next elections and reverse what this government achieved against separatists.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Ananda/Tata;

There are some vulnerabilities of SF, which I expect to discuss below. Most ppl whom we meet today are voting for MR. But in SL there are few blocks of votes that is puppet controlled.

1. Upcountry tamils
2. Northern Tamils
3. Southern Tamils
4. Major segment of muslims
5. Eastern Tamils

Some of these already do not support Mr. However, the weakness is that only a few ppl can be negotiated with in order to get teh vote of these folks.

[[Tata: You haven't accounted for the percentage that SF would break away from 60% of MR. I believe this is around 5%.]]

I did. In fact I never put a number for that. It is the critical segment of vote. Following is my analysis on Pre-SF vote distribution, with more focus on MR block.

A1: MR SLFP base = 15% [rough guess]
A2: MR's own base = 15% [rough guess]
A3: MR's Floating base = 20+%
A4: MR's minorities = 10-%
B: RW Sinhala base = 20%
C: Gonason+RW+TNA minority base = 10%
D: JVP base = 5%
E: Anti RW UNP base = 5%

If SF secures B, C, D, E which will be a very hard task, he still has 40%. He needs another ~12lacks [10%] from MR.

MR's vulnerability is A4. It consists Muslim parties, Upcountry tamils, TMVP/Karuna/Douglas. Of them SF can squeeze ~5% by giving into unfair demands.

But I do not agree with you that there will be a 5% floating votes that SF will get. Problem is the fact that he lines up with traitors. It will be much less.

However, retaining the 40% at his hand will be harder for SF than even getting some 10% from MR. Category E and category C will not sit together.

Few other facts standing against SF.

- back stabbing by UNP
- Skeptism from minority ppl in UNA
- His own mouth
- Corruption allegations
- Possibility of RW contesting even after SF accepting CC
- Major cross over from UNP/TNA to govt.

MR's concerns:

- How he goes about SF. Note that about half of MR voters may not vote for SF, but love and admire him. If Mervin keeps on bashing SF like now, MR is loosing votes.

- Some voters who may not vote, due to indecisive situ created by SF and Mr's corruption and family appointments rumors

- Minorty party crossover.

SK,

Disagree mate.

Tata also guessed there will be a 5% loss for MR. I still disagree.

I myself tried best survey I can. And I hope you saw what Ananda mentioned about this block. Most of us feel that it is almost unchanged and it will be attached to MR.

Yes there are exceptions. Some ppl would move with SF. But my guess is that it will be insignificant.

From the 15 mill vote base, 80% votes comes to 12 million. And 1% is 120k. For 1% to move there need to be 120k like minded ppl as you [I assume you voted for MR last time, and plan to vote for SF, based on your reply]. But we don't see any such trend.

Not only Colombo, but also outside is important. I do not see any such major move.

A huge amount of UNPers are highly motivated. But that block was never belonged to MR anyway.

Have you ever evaluated teh chances of SF retaining the vote categories B, C, D and E? I say it is extremely unlikely.

Moshe;

there will be no leadership given to SF. UNP will never take him in. I wonder whether he's even given party membership. Your dream of SF pushing RW to retirement will never be. SF will be thrown like a used condom.

Good thing is only if SF makes his own party and contest on his own policies. He can do that after PE. He can grab hold chunks of UNP voters and eventually send UNP and RW both to extinction [or insignificance].

Right now do not expect to hear a single patriotic thing from SF. Mongala, Gonason, Hack-him, RW, Ravi Ela Kiri ella etc will write his speeches.

Election called to receive the mandate of the Northern and Eastern people - President

November 24, 2009 11:04 am

One reason behind calling for a Presidential election was to receive the mandate of the Northern and Eastern people who were deprived of their voting rights by the LTTE at the last elections, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today.

He added that now that the nation is united under one flag it is necessary for him to receive the mandate of all races and communities.

------------------------------

Looks like a full toss isn't it? It is placed for SF camp to play a very sinhala centric shot and get bowled !!!

This statement tells me that TNA is gonna split. Ha ha ha.

Moshe Dyan said...

sk,

nope.

based on recent lowest percentages at PE/GE, the static vote bases are,

UPFA - 38%
UNP - 38%

this leaves only 24% floating.

MR should get more than half of it (12%) to win.

scene - 1 - a strong third candidate

if, others take 5%, MR will have to win 63% of the remaining floating votes to win.

this is the max that can be allowed b4 making it impossible for MR to get 50%. bcos if others take 6%, the requirement goes up to 67%. this is too high.

HOWEVER, if the third candidate is a patriot, chances are that his voters will cast #2 for MR. so if #2 votes are counted, MR stands a high chance of winning even if the third candidate gets more than 5%.

1. MR should over power the third candidate completely.

2. IF SF is the third candidate, MR should not align too much with former anti-SL voters.

scene - 2 - SF contests from (K)UNA, etc.

EASY

1. register an independant candidate (Rs 50,000) who will cry over HR violations and other anti-war crap in sinhala and tamil

2. also register an independant candidate (Rs 50,000) who will make patriotic (+++) demands from both candidates to the extent that it will split the (K)UNA vote base which happens VERY QUICKLY IF SF contests from it.

so you can see, it is scene-1 that is most dangerous.

Most of usually floating voters are hardcore MR supporters in past few years. So there is a debate about its definition.

What I meant by non-floating are those ppl who will always be aligned with a party or a man [Kapuwath kola, Kapuwath Nil, Api ahawalaage minissu etc]. In that defintion; SLFP has ~15%, UNP has ~25% [~5% of that is anti Ranil] and MR personally has ~15%.

Sadly, I'm guessing [with facts]. My numbers are not generated via a institute conducted survey. :)

In case of SF vs MR dual contest, I think SF will even fail to retain the anti-MR blocks [B, C, D and E] and won't break much from MR votes. SF is likely to get 35+% of votes. However some "vote-sellers" like thonda athaulla, hisbulla, Pillayan etc may cross and give him some boost. Also MR side may distance some of their voters by allowing likes of Mervin to drain filth out of mouth. At best SF may get ~45%. So SF vs MR dual is never a loss to MR.

As you said the three candidate case may boost RW in second vote and hence that is a risk for MR. But that is only if SF comes out clean. If he shows signs of a puppet of RW, ppl will not vote him and he'll not get any significant vote [< 10%].

It is more than clear that SF has secured the JVP vote. But what about rest?

To beat UNP SLFP have to get help from other Marxist parties as well as some of the UNPers also.

In this case UNP base is divided over MR ‘s heroic win over LTTE, RW’s past treacherous acts, association of Mano Gona, Mangala’s bad mouth etc.

Also SF summersault is also affecting to vote base of both sides.

the true JVP vote is about 3% of the national vote. that too trade unionists and hardcore JVP. trade unionists are not likely to vote for a army general.

hard core JVP buggers will not vote for SF at all.

its only the anti-MR JVP buggers who will vote for SF.

1 million or 7% are very young voters. these votes must be won. but still, MOST of them are fixed votes anyway based on parents' politics.

but my UNP fixed voters % may be exaggerated bcos MOST ppl who left SL in the recent past are UNP voters at presidential elections. this % is significant.

"Mates, usually in SL UNP vote base is larger than SLFP."

we should consider the UPFA or PA coalition although the marxist parties have no real support today.

if considered the UPFA/PA verses UNP, until 1989 yes. not thereafter.

in 2001 when PA lost like dogs, it got 38%.

in 2004 when UNP lost like dogs, it had 39% but with CWC.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Moshe;

Our definitions are diff. The "hardcore" as I call it are those who vote for colors. There are some voters in SL, who have always voted for one color no matter what ppl they are.

Blue - 15%
Green - 25% [5% abstained as they couldn't vote for RW, but never vote out of Green]

MR himself has gained similar bulk of blind voters. I say 15% [not certain]

[[in 2001 when PA lost like dogs, it got 38%.]]

This still consisted floating voters. As RW suggested Piss Talks a lot of flaoting voters voted for PA. PA hardcore is much much lesser than this.

[[in 2004 when UNP lost like dogs, it had 39% but with CWC.]]

In this, the UNP base of 25% and Some minorities. Not only CWC, there were lots of other tamil movements [not parties] that helped RW in 2004. They're not hardcore UNP.

As I said the definitions are diff. Rest accepted.

Surprisingly we both come to closer results. Maybe an assurance that two diff guessing methods are both close the reality.

Keshara-කේශර said...

MD,

Die hard UNPers who likeed what MR has accomplished and hate RW for his treacherous acts now cannot vote MR because of SF factor. The other factor is almost all Marxists are patriotic at heart.

MR also given lot of ammunition to opposition to cash by favouring family ties, sky high expenditure and protecting vermin’s like Mervin S’s.

Therefore vote bases are confused and lost their bearings big time. However, I think the condition favour MR not Poanna Ranil anyhow.

Another ignored fact is the possible abstaining from voting due to confusions and dissent. Political dramas of next two months will define the tide of it. It is wise for MR if he ties his dogs and contest with seeming compassion.

As Moshe predicts, we will see few "other" candidates for sure.

MR will be bowling to SF to play as many patriotic shots as possible [MR knows he won't loose patriot base, so wanting to take minorities now], as SF will be bowling at MR to reveal as many corruption as possible. Those are the sweet spots of one and strong points of the other.

MR has to take care of this matter. He will have to be aware that there are more than known enemies plotting him ousted from power. Not only democratically, but also they try other means such as rebellion, conspiracy, coop, or worst, assassination.

Real life is not like this. A pawn in politics has a little life time. He's called a pawn as nobody is genuinely supporting him. Only that he will be used and at the time of task completion he will be dumped.

Your answer means nothing in politics. But a good slogan to keep morale of the political campaign.

As long as SF is winning the risk is always there. However, SF won't win if it is a dual. Yes you're right the risk comes up only when there is a third major candidate.

Panhinda;

[[you seriously underestimate the phenomenon that is SF.]]

I seriously do not think there is a way SF can win it. It will be MR in almost all probabilities, if not Mr it can only be RW. SF winning a 50%+ alone, is surely out of all odds for me. And on that grounds I call that he is used as a pawn and will be dumped.

Anyway, let's consider the case of him winning.

As per official set program, SF is gonna be used to get power and get thrown out of it leaving power in RW hands.

Still, SF will be leading with RW etc as his allies. At that point it is a major power crisis, out of which SF can either rise into a dictator like Premadasa or worse, or get impeached and thrown into political dust bin.

Even if SF get RW/Mongy to accept his power as Exe Prez; he will be running the country with those traitors, fulfilling their demands.

So SF has four fates.

1. Loose and get dumped
2. Win and get dumped
3. Win and be a puppet
4. Win and be a dictator

Neither of these are good for our nation. Only in case 4 he would NOT be a pawn, and that is perhaps the worst case.

The problem of dictatorship, regardless whether it is SF/MR/Premadasa or JRJ, is that it gives no way to rcover if teh dictator turns into a bad guy. Corruption, killing, destruction, imprisonment etc becomes "legal" within that context. However you call current admin is bad, it is astill accountable for public, and it is still feeling the need to nod to public at least once in few years. If corruption is at this bad level [as you say] in that scenario, imagine what would happen under perfect dictatorship.

It is very contradictory that you are at one point screaming for HR/democracy/right-of-expression etc and suddenly now you back military rule/dictatorship.

There is an old saying called "Kanna oona unaama Kabaragoyath Thalagoyaa wenavaa". It has lots of applications in many contemporary political contexts anyway.

mahinda as you know reached out to india thinking there was coupe de etat. there was no such thing of course. now the dilemma for mahinda is he must return the favour. what does india most desperately want from SL? now they have mahinda to re-configure SL state politically, socially and econimically according to their taste. add icing to the cake is mahinda will retain extensive powers in his current position. in effect SL will lose its sovereignty to india for 8 or more years if mahinda is re-elected. they can bypass parliament and do anything they wish with presidential exec powers.

stupid mahinda opened the door to RAW and indian military. they have togeather taken the teeth out of our military rendering it impotent. if india does another IKPF tomorrow we might as well roll out the red carpet for them. some patriots here trying to prevent Indian invasion is in vain. mahinda sold us off for pretty much nothing.

india as said they will help mahinda to win. now how the hell would india help mahinda to win the election? they already have by quietly passing info they had on the general i.e. ISI connection to sling mud. they can obviously do more. if things get desperate they will blast few bombs in colombo for example to drive fear into peoples minds to think mahinda is better for security. they will also help with stuffing ballot boxes etc. this as you see is a far worse proposition than having the general for the president.

Eleventh Century CE:

In the peak of Chola empire the Sinhala kingdom was limited to a small area in the South due very weak leadership. A prince named Kirthi restored sovereignty by chasing the invaders. Having restored our dignity and backbone, we started walking again with our heads straight up. Even after 1000 years, the warrior king Dutugemnu's name resonated in Sinhala minds.

Twenty First Century CE:

A man called Prabakaran who portrayed him in front of the Chola insignia was ravaging our Motherland with untold terror. We were about to surrender to Prabakaran due to weak and poor leadership who was ever ready to dance for whims and fancies of western powers who wants to enslave us forever. A leader name Mahinda Rajapakse vanquished the terrorist and sent western apes back home. Just like the times of Dutugemunu and Vijayabahu, having restored our backbone, we started walking our heads up straight. Unders the leadership of Mahinda Rajapakse, we learned that we have done things many others believed to be impossible. Once again, we have become an independent nation. Now that we have gained independence, it is the time to let Mahinda Rajapakse develop the nation.

You fail me on constitutional terms [in simple English, what you say cannot be done even if SF agrees for it], yet I reserve it for a different debate. Plus, the power hungry man SF is never gonna do it, again I leave it out and take for granted that your set plan will happen.

You are driven with the idea that RW means good for nation. It is unfortunately not my opinion. Regardless other politicians, on absolute terms the traitor RW deserves gallows. Plain and clear. We can compare rest of the politicians and agree/disagree on who is the best.

There is no point of you telling me how good RW is, or me telling you how bad he is. We can agree to disagree. So let me volunteer out of the debate of RW's value for SL, as I see it as below zero. RW is not someone I'd even consider for a debate. Traitor->gallows. The End

Since you want SF to be used as a pawn and thrown [become a ceremonial leader], that leaves RW as the only competitor to MR. That removes the unnecessary arguments of "how good a leader SF will be". Homogeneous choice of MR vs RW is the reality right now. SF is a bulk of opium and a perfect decoy for day-dreamers. Expiry set on 23rd Jan.

Isn't this the same as "SF is used like a Pawn". A ceremonially respected
pawn maybe.

Rest of your arguments are mostly hatred towards MR. I don't know what caused it, but perhaps the destruction of LTTE - and in that case your allegation of eelamoid is further proven. Whatever the cause of your hatred is; all I have to say is that MR is the best leader who came to power after 1970 and with all your allegations, he still stands worthy re-elected, and he will bring some development, although it may not be the ideal case.

PS: BTW, SF as a third PARLIAMENTARY force is something I still entertain. But to be that he has to make clear that the shit he collects from RW is cleaned and he stands in the right ideologies for national affairs.

Quite contrary; I like if MR accepts a plan that agrees with US. We don't want a tug-a-war. Us can assassinate/eliminate a leader of SL so easily, but SL cannot do such to US. So why do we have to make US an enemy.

There is a common path where US and SL interests can be met simultaneously. It is something John Perkins fails to see in his Hitman book. Look at Malaysia, or Taiwan, or Singapore Or Japan. They used US hitman for best of their nations w/o getting the Jackal. Only those big mouths and show-off leaders got it wrong. and of ourse leftists.

- Noriega
- Roldes
