Sit Rep 31 Oct 2009

A cautionary note on the present situation re Gen Fonseka. Our task was to allow things to settle down on their own which has worked. However, recent developments led particularly by a section of the diaspora Sinhalese is a cause of concern for DefenceWire.

DefenceWire team's stance up to now has been to avoid commenting on this dispute knowing fully well the capacity of both the present government and SF to come to a compromise on:

1. The direction the Sri Lankan Military will take
2. The direction General Fonseka would have to go

These may not be the most ideal directions for either, yet they are ones that are at best described as realistic and unavoidable.

There are many moves by politically motivated Sri Lankans, including Sinhala groups and also non Sinhala Sri Lankan groups to exploit a disagreement that has unnecessarily spilled over into the public's eye due to politics in the military and a very small section of the military in politics.

These groups, particularly those civilians involved who are not insiders or have little inside information can or will not understand the discipline of a professional soldier to take what he wants and to relinquish duty when required sans insubordination.

A professional soldier is not Dutugemunu. The Sri Lanka Army/Military is a modern Army/Military positioned within a democratic society. The professional soldiers serving in it will know when to let go. By asking them to perform a larger role based solely on selfish motives of individuals in the periphery, they may destroy that soldier and even themselves and their reputation.

The Sri Lankan Military and its leaders are now hailed the world over for their victorious feat. Their role in bringing peace to the country through military means will be remembered for decades to come as the ultimate example of a trained military executing its sacred task flawlessly from start to finish. But remember this, dear readers, military action is a means of achieving the end and the end is always political.

DefenceWire, as an impartial site whose work you have witnessed for over 3 years now wish to appeal to our readers to refrain from joining or supporting either 'camps' and to allow the professional soldier and professional politicians to resolve potentially resolvable issues mentioned above.

Thank you

SK,

Thanks for your response, I agree with almost all you have mentioned. However, it is not the general at fault here. It is HE the president himself at fault. If he is the leader and the one who is holding true power; why he is worrying about the loyalty of a trusted subordinator? Why he has to suspect motives of a good soldier who has delivered the goods better than any one else.

You know what? I expect the worst in near future. I sincerely hope, I am wrong for the sake of our beloved country and the nation.

There are bad things said about MR. I also have criticism over some of his acts. in my view, he is not a perfect leader, but for sure the best we had after 1970, by a pretty big margin.

But his misconduct is not the reason why he looks so unpopular in www arena. In fact most such ppl have been very critical of him from day 1. From the days of campaign. I know Sinhala SL ppl, whom would blame him and sympathize pussycats, simply because he was beating pusycats. Note taht I'm not talking about socialists/lunatics, NGO hawks etc. Ordinary ppl.

Most of them hated MR as they support UNP. Plus the "village" look of MR, plus the fact that MR does regional development.

In my view most active members of anti-MR campaign are those, and SF is becoming a symbol, a mere symbol, for them to rally around.

However, there is a growing skepticism and dislike among normal MR supporters for few things he did in recent past such as SPC nominations etc. MR can fix it, and I really hope he does so.

Right now MR's biggest strength is none other than RW.

He's started as a JVPer, later joined the lunatic socialist clans, supported pussycats, got bombs training with them, planted bombs and now working for RW clan, in order to harm our national heroes.

We have said many times before that the General will not join any existing political party. This despite many supporters of the Rajapaksa family saying UNP is trying to ride on back of the General or that RW is plotting to become president.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the update DW, My hope is SF should be the war hero. not a candidate for corrupted political party.

As far as i know he is gentlemen so at this moment he should not be a candidate against to MR. because MR is make SF as our hero in my point of view, If MR not appointed SF as Army Chief most of the ppl in this country may dont know about SF. MR promote him time to time and let him to do his job without any issue internationally and locally.

So this is not the time to SF to join politics he should be support MR to develop this country. if MR do wrong and waste. Next presidential election is the right time to him to join politics if he want. Not to make happy currepted UNP and Mongal Mangala. they are the one who always insult SF and Our wining war in many time. they bless us 1% but insult our forces 99%

Actually SF is the key man in WAR. but we all know that MR had a chance to stop SF in single sign. And MR was brave to avoid interruption from Bloodywest.

And im surprising why Gen SF request GC from bloody America. He is the hero of SL not corrupted US.
In next few years world will change to east not west.

DEBUNK THE REPORTS!!!!

A CONCERTED EFFORT IS NEEDED TO DEBUNK A NUMBER
OF REPORTS THAT ARE FLOATING AROUND ATTEMPTING
TO ACCUSE THE PROMINENT FIGURES THAT LED
THE HUMANITARIAN OPERATION WHICH THWARTED
THE DESPICABLE TERRORIST MOVEMENT, THE LTTE.

THE TWO MAIN EXAMPLES ARE THE EU REPORT COMPILED
TO DENY THE GSP+ CONCESSION TO SRI LANKA.
THE OTHER IS THE REPORT SUBMITTED TO THE
US CONGRESS.

ACTION MUST BE TAKEN IN VARIOUS FORMS TO
SHOW THAT THESE REPORTS ARE BASED ON THE SAME
UNCORROBORATED, ASSUMPTION MAKING
"SAME SOURCES" USED FOR ALL THESE REPORTS!

OTHERWISE THIS WILL CREATE AN IMPRESSION
GLOBALLY THAT SRI LANKA DID INDEED COMMIT WRONGFUL
ACTS DURING THE ELIMINATION OF TERRORISM
FROM THE ISLAND.

ARMED WITH THIS INFORMATION REPRESENTATIONS
MUST BE MADE TO AS MANY COUNTRIES AS POSSIBLE
TO GARNER THEIR SUPPORT.

FIRST STEP IS TO DEBUNK THESE REPORTS!

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Here is the past of the MF Sarath Manamendra inline.

Exposed: The Southern cells of the LTTE terror network

BLASTS: The entire country was puzzled when five bombs exploded almost simultaneously in Kiribathgoda, Wattala, Rajagiriya, Nugegoda and Dehiwala on January 24, 2006. No one was injured in the relatively minor blasts which took place at night.

The explosions that rocked the suburbs that day remained a mystery as Police could not make any breakthrough in their probe.

However, they came to the conclusion that a single organisation was behind all five explosions.

As time passed those low-scale explosions turned into a trivial matter not only for the people but also for the Security Forces and the Police as suicide bombs dominated the entire scene overshadowing all the other incidents in Colombo.

But there was a worrying factor for the Security Forces and the Police.

The second batch of the Revolutionary Liberation Organisation comprising, 1. Dinesh Buddhika Kalapalage alias Jagath, Talapalakanda, Deniyaya. 2. Gunaratna Adhikari Mudiyanselage Priyantha Goonaratna alias Parakrama, Udagammana, Divulapitiya. 3. Weerakoon Mudiyanselage Suranji Pradeep, Meetotamulla, Wellampitiya. 4. Mannadhi Pathirannehelage Sarath Janaka Manamendra, Divulapitiya. 5. Jayaratna Mudiyanselage Udaya Shamal Costa, Pahalabiyanwila, Kadawata. 6. Mohammed Lalith Seneviratna, Hokandara, during their visit to Elephant Pass.

The recovery of claymore mines one after the other in Colombo and suburban areas put them in an uneasy situation.

Those claymore mines posed a major threat to civilian life given the situation that arose after the Kebithigollewa bus bombing. But the people were fortunate enough as none of these claymore mines could do any harm.

The Security Forces connected the LTTE to all these incidents since it was the only organisation which promotes violence to achieve their so-called objectives.

Therefore, the Security Forces and the Police doubled their alertness towards disruptive elements in the country consequent to the two bus explosions in Nittambuwa and Hikkaduwa which killed several innocent civilians and injured many more.

They detected more claymore mines, weaponry and ammunition and patiently monitored the situation.

At last the Security Forces made a breakthrough that solved all those puzzles.

Acting on a tip-off received by the 112 Brigade and after a months long investigation and exercise of patience, the Army arrested Mohammed Lalith Seneviratna alias Mola Seneviratna, a former JVP activist who unsuccessfully contested the 1994 General election along with Ajith Kumara for the Gampaha district under JVP banner.

Along with Mola Seneviratna two more suspects Sudu Hewage Nihal Serasinghe alias Ragala Nihal, a resident of Rajagiriya who was married to a Tamil woman from Ragala and Mayadunne Arachchige Sisira Priyankara, a resident of Panadura and the treasurer of the leftist Trade Union of the Railway Department were also arrested.

The arrest of Seneviratna and Sisira Priyankara triggered controversy in trade union and media circles in Colombo due to their media and journalistic backgrounds. Many media organisations and trade unions jumped to the conclusion that an innocent journalist and a trade union activist have been arrested or rather abducted by unidentified men.

TBC...

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

However, Seneviratna and Priyankara proved their guilt in their confessions to the Army, completely silencing the people and the organisations that hastened to blame the Government and the Security Forces without examining the background of these people.

Seneviratna revealed how he formed the Revolutionary Liberation Organisation when he lost faith in the path adopted by the JVP after entering Parliamentary democratic politics.

The prime aim of their organisation, in their words, was to “prevent the country from falling into the hands of imperialists” and they firmly believed in an armed struggle to protect the country.

Though some years passed after the formation of the organisation they failed to form a constitution. However, the organisation had several co-secretaries for administrative, political, military and intelligence.

It increased membership through their family links, trade union links and media links. According to latest revelations they have used street dramas and drama training centres to recruit new members.

The most shocking part of his revelation was the path they selected to approach their goal. Mola Seneviratne explained how he developed contacts with the LTTE through a person called Ravi and how they received training in weapons and use of explosives from LTTE Intelligence Wing deputy leader Kapila Amman.

They revealed how three batches of their organisation comprising 12 people underwent training in weapons and use of explosives with the LTTE in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu.

The photographs show the second batch of the Revolutionary Liberation Organisation undergo weapons training in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu with LTTE members.
This threesome admitted that their organisation was responsible for the following crimes:

*Placing of claymore mine near STF camp, Ganemulla

*Placing of claymore mine at 9th Mile Post, Mahara

*Placing a claymore mine and a time bomb aiming an Army vehicle in Koggala

*Exploding time bombs at Kiribathgoda, Wattala, near Castle hospital, Nugegoda and Dehiwala

*Placing of time bomb at Radawana

*Exploding a time bomb at the IOC Filling station at Piliyandala

*Throwing a hand grenade at IOC filling station at Mount Lavinia

*Throwing a hand grenade at IOC filling station at Kadawatha

In addition Seneviratna has also admitted that he worked as a freelance journalist for Minister Mangala Samaraweera from 1996 to 1998.

They have received claymore mines, weapons and explosives from Tiger cadres and have distributed those weapons, claymore mines and ammunition among their members.

They fell into the hands of the LTTE and became a cat’s paw of the LTTE in the South. They helped the LTTE to accomplish what they could not otherwise have achieved in the South.

The most alarming factor is that the LTTE had used this organisation to collect intelligence on vital economic and military centres in the South.

Apart from the supply of weapons and ammunition the LTTE has also sent funds worth Rs.1 million and in turn the organisation invested money at various business establishments.

One such business establishment was found in Kadawatha area and steps have already been taken to freeze these assets by obtaining a Court order.

After these three key suspects were handed over to the Terrorist Investigation Division, the Criminal Investigations Department made another eight arrests after February 8. The TID arrested two men from a hideout in Nivitigala, two from Habaraduwa, two from Kadawatha and one from Kotadeniyawa.

The TID arrested Priyantha Nugawela, an employee attached to the Railway Department and his brother-in-law, a conductor who assisted Priyantha to conceal ammunition buried in their compound.

Sanjaya Sugathchandra of Kuleegedara, Kotadeniyawa a friend of Suranjith Pradeep of Wellampitiya and Priyantha Gunaratna of Divulapitiya both of whom have been trained in weapons and use of explosives were arrested at a hideout in Nivitigala Police area on February 13.

TBC

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

The TID on February 9 also arrested the Grama Niladari of Balawela, Badalagama Sarath Janaka Manamendra who had undergone weapons training under the LTTE in Kilinochchi.

In addition, Hewadadallagodage Keerthi alias Podi Malli of Habaraduwa was also arrested by the TID on February 12 and based on his interrogation Ravindra Lasantha Kumara of Habaraduwa too was arrested. Police recovered one pistol with 13 live bullets.

The TID also recovered weapons cleaning material and a 21-metre long detonator cord from Sisira Priyankara’s house in Panadura.

Sisira Priyankara who was the President of Left oriented trade union of the Railway Department has played an active role in the recent strikes in Railway Department. Police recovered one micro pistol with six rounds of live ammunition from his locker at the Railway Department in a search carried out subsequent to his arrest.

A further recovery was made on February 12 from the principal suspect Lalith Seneviratna which included a USB drive, a computer and a hard disk.

The USB drive contained the photos of the principal suspect and his group members taken during LTTE military training and during their visit to Kilinochchi and Elephant Pass.

The CID and the TID has deployed more teams in search of the members who had gone missing.

Though initially it was believed that this organisation comprised only Sinhalese, more roots have been found in the estate sector too with the involvement of estate Tamils.

The organisation was in the process of increasing its membership in many parts of the country by training new recruits after deploying those who had already undergone weapons and explosive training with the LTTE.

Therefore, it is believed that the organisation could have been used as the cat’s paw of the LTTE to carry on their activities in the South using trained Sinhalese as their agents, hoodwinking the Security Forces and the Police.

Further interrogation of these suspects has revealed that they have been engaged in planning a big calamity in the South in the coming days specially on the day CFA is due to complete five years (February 22). But it is not yet confirmed what type of disaster they had planned in the South.

Therefore, the credit should go to the Security Forces and the Police for exposing such a terror group even though unfounded and baseless allegations are levelled against them without a proper knowledge of what is going on.

Certain foreign INGOs and organisations are in the habit of the blaming the Security Forces for violating the human rights and making Security Forces and the Police responsible for so-called abductions.

And even some politicians knowingly or unknowingly, willingly or unwillingly have become a part of the LTTE stage-managed campaign against the Security Forces, jumping to the conclusion that the Security Forces have violated human rights.

Setting aside their slogans at demonstrations and protests, it should be questioned whether they have made a proper and impartial analysis of the whole situation.

TBC...

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

In the final analysis even the Southern media also have become a part of the LTTE propaganda machine to discredit the Government, Security Forces and the Police as the LTTE in a very subtle way has used them to achieve their aims.

The most prominent feature in this campaign is that these media organisations too are playing a vital role in promoting the cause of the LTTE by sympathising with the people who have been “abducted in white vans” as they say, without making any effort to find out their background.

The most amusing factor is that all these so-called abductions have been perpetrated by people arriving in white vans. According to Government Defence Affairs Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, the idea is to give the impression that Government and the Security Forces are behind these so-called abductions.

What should be uppermost in the public mind at this moment is to see whether there was any complaint from a single political party or organisation to suppress them as had happened during the terror period in the late 1980’s. So far no political party or organisation had made any complaint against the Government. The only worrying factor they were having is the so-called abductions.

When going deeper into these allegations, it is obvious that the LTTE was indirectly behind these agitations though several organisations are in the front line.

The prime aim of the LTTE is to prevent the Security Forces and the Police from arresting suspected LTTE cadres who had arrived in the South from various parts of the Wanni with ulterior motives.
The LTTE made use of Southern politicians and also the Sinhala civilian organisations so effectively to cover up their attempt to launch a surprise attack on the Colombo Port.

These politicians and civil organisations coupled with certain media organisations are still making an effort to blame the Navy saying they have fired upon innocent fishermen.

In fact, they are still playing to the tune of the LTTE managed campaign, to cover up their plan which they launched using the fishermen to guide the LTTE boats to the Colombo Port.

However, the Navy still stands firm that the arrests made by them were correct given the number of weapons recoveries they made after the detection of the boat.

It is high time for the public to think twice before jumping to hasty conclusions about the steps taken by the Security Forces and the Police and keep faith in them since they have so far taken the correct measures to strengthen the security of civilians.

And they should be grateful to the Security Forces and the Police for taking effective measures for creating a more secure environment for a peaceful life.

Guys, Sri Lanka's leaders craving for US green card and Citizenship is embarrassing. I felt SF as a national hero until he went to update his Green Card status.

We all know the life can be better in USA. These people have all the power to make the same in Sri Lanka, yet from the back of their mind they are thinking of living in USA. They can afford to that since they are super rich.

What about the average folks?

What kind of message you are sending to poor soldiers who sacrificed their lives to our nation?

Don't protect hypocrites.

This the problem with our leaders, one foot in SL and the heavier foot abroad.
I see very little being done to elevate the nagging problems in the island and they want us to invest and then we are left with a lot of grief. I am speaking from my own experience.
I sincerely hope the likes of SF will come back and help the present government to rebuild the country and advice the people at the top to follow the correct path.

In this context General Fonseka maintaining a GC in USA is something I can understand. At the same time it is his private life which I believe that we should not drill in to.

/The Tamil diaspora in the United States has reacted positively to the news the White House wants to question a top commander in the Sri Lankan army. General Sarath Fonseka will allegedly be questioned by the Department of Homeland Security over the campaign to crush Tamil Tiger rebels at the beginning of the year.

A spokesman for the campaign group Tamils Against Genocide, who asked not to be named, told Radio Netherlands the move is a positive step. The group also hopes it may lead to charges being brought against Mr Rajapakse who oversaw the offensive that left up to 7,000 civilians dead.

“You could even regard this as a follow up to the model indictment that TAG generated in 2009 and submitted to the US Justice Department… They have a full dossier of all the crimes Tamils would like to have the US investigate on these two individuals./

How come US let such war criminal escape? Since US is always correct and perfect (as opposed to say, SL) they let SF go becuz he is innocent and has committed no whatsoever crime, and any allegations/ evidence must be false. HA HA

/Fonseka flees US

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 04 November 2009, 13:19 GMT]

Sri Lanka Army chief, Lt. Gen. Sarath Fonseka fled the United States cutting short his planned stay in the US to avoid being questioned by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) over warcrimes under his command, according to an AFP report. "Mr Fonseka's future chances of retiring to the US are now in jeopardy, and consequent developments in other countries of the world, except the rights violator nations, may make him a fugitive," legal sources in Washington said. Meanwhile, incriminating, anonymous, hearsay evidence has surfaced on the activities of his son-in-law, Danuna Tillakaratne, on making weapons deals from Oklahoma. Tamils Against Genocide (TAG), a US-based pressure group, said yesterday that TAG will be preparing a detailed document after further research on this matter for possible use by the US law enforcement authorities./

Notice: Tamils Against Genocide's war crime party has been (genocided) canceled. TAG spokesperson apologies for losing free punnakku.

General has nothing to worry about GC as we like him very much enough to spend our hard earned money to settle him anywhere he wants, besides these conniving terrorists living abroad have taught us that money can by any one and do any thing so we will match them.
As I mentioned at the beginning that SF will have nothing to worry as there are forces and folks in this world that will not share a bed or break bread with people who use terror tactics to achieve their ends.
If we are to get any respect or help then we must heed to international conventions that are there for our own good. We simply can’t annoy the big powers around us and they are the elephant in the room (not taking about the greens).
People like Ananda Sangaree appeals to Karunadithi to intervene in SL then we must make note. This guy proved what a communal minded politician he is when the london Sri Lankan HC organized children’s show in our old Uni exactly 2 years ago, this guy never cheered or smiled when the Kandyan Sinhalese dancers made a dance act together with the Tamil dancers. We videoed him and we hope to show that to him to reflect on.
Tamil Nadhu could be a great threat to us in future and we must have good relations with the people that matter.
In US they could get very cynical and good examples are the eviction of Nixon from White House, conviction of a good friend of George Bush over Enron where he committed suicide to escape a lengthy jail sentence and the recent case of Polanski who is to be extradited after nearly 30 years. Must be the only country where life sentence is life.
I wish SF met the HS guys and if he had cleverly put his case against his fight against the terrorist where he was nearly killed they would had some respect, after all we are all in it together fighting the terrorists where ever they are.

Citizenships, GC and Patriotism

1. Applying/ having, accepting, rejecting citizenships/ GC/ PR of foreign countries is a choice for an individual.

2. A foreign country may be friendly or hostile to SL depending on several factors.

3. Not having citizenship/ GC/ PR is not a pre-request for one to be a patriot. Having such citizenship/ GC/ PR cannot disqualify one to be patriotic to SL.

4. However, you may not want a citizen of another country to be the president of your country.

/Gen. Fonseka permitted to avoid ‘interview’, leave US

by Shamindra Ferdinando and Saman Indrajith

Following high level talks between the governments of Sri Lanka and the US over a move by the US Department of Homeland Security to ‘interview’ Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka, the US dropped its controversial plan. The war veteran, who had commanded the army during Sri Lanka’s successful war against the LTTE, was airborne at the time this edition went to press.

Government sources told The Island that on a presidential directive, the Foreign Ministry vehemently protested against the move, emphasising that the General could not be interviewed, interrogated or even asked to provide a voluntary statement.

Sources said that the government had also discussed with the State Department modalities of arranging for the General to leave the US before the scheduled ‘interview’ sought by authorities.

Responding to The Island queries, sources said that the State Department had been informed of the General’s travel from Oklahoma, where he was staying with his family, to Washington. Sources said that Sri Lanka’s Washington mission had facilitated the General’s departure. He is expected back in Colombo today.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said that the government‘s timely intervention had prevented an attempt by the US Homeland Security Department to question the General and facilitate his return home.

He was responding to a question raised by JVP Parliamentary Group Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Bogollagama said that pro-LTTE ‘Tamils Against Genocide’ organisation was behind the move against the General.

"General Fonseka is one of the highest ranking Sri Lankan military officials. He was traveling on a diplomatic passport for a pre-arranged visit. He is privy to privileged information and no third party had a right to question him on matters that deal with the country’s security," the Foreign Minister said./

People must remember that those you are at the forefront of fighting global terrorism after today’s incident where two police officers that killed 5 British soldiers
makes no difference between civilians who may be part of the terrorist infrastructure that was part of the collateral damage during the last phase of our war and terrorists. Just as it was difficult to distinguish between the real police and terrorists in disguise as civilians. So SF can’t be a war criminal fighting in a war under difficult circumstances where the civilians went along with the rebels when they should have had a chance to stay away, instead of being a human shield for the cowardly bunch of terrorists. If US have ever thought that he was a war criminal, wouldn’t have let him leave.

Peter said...

Leaders seeking foreign citizenships and residencies is a question of faith and confidence.

If they believe that their actions of today, i.e. "good" leadership, will give way to a greater Bandastan of tomorrow, would they not want to enjoy the fruits of their labour, along with their kids?

For lower levels it may be a matter of personal choice. But, when the leadership tries to find an alternative future for themselves and their children, overall confidence can be shaken.

What if Bill Gates used Apple or the senior management of BMW drove Audis?

People who should be showing confidence in Bandastan by staying put, along with their families, should be those tasked with the responsibility to shape Bandastan's future.

Agree with you on this one mate. I know lot of people think otherwise.
Every person is a free man, therefore they can do what ever they like. I believe that as well.

The question is, guys like MR/GR/SF are not ordinary people any more. Not for few more years at least. They were nobody before the war, therefore it was not an issue then. Now they are leaders of a nation. This applies to SF/GR and MF only and very few other who SLs have great respect. No one would give a F*** if RW, CBK e.t.c. e.t.c decides to go an live in U.K.

Further, U.S. is a hostile nation for these guys currently. So why try to go there and give Sri Lankans grief.

I wonder whether there are examples of leaders of nations going to U.S. trying to keep their green card. As an example, would current leaders like Putin go to U.S. for green card? Would leaders from China or guy line Nethanyahu go for a green card? (I don't know the answer for this). But my belief is that this is not the norm.

Of course you have to redefine what "innocent" means. Let me help you to start.

Definition of word innocent in the Eelam Dictionary of Terrorists.

(1) Tendency to live non violently by setting up bus bombs, car bombs, bicycle bombs, suicide bombs etc to kill the violent unarmed civilians.

(2) Tendency to live non violently by killing violent unarmed civilians in sleep by beheading, chopping, slicing, dicing using axes, swords, daggers, and knives.

@ Peter & Bhairav,

I have one question for people like Peter & Bhairav!

If SF is responsible for killing over 20k innocent Tamils, who is responsible for the other 60k+ innocent deaths? The answer is smart Tamil Diaspora and their hunger for separatism is responsible for the whole carnage which spanned over 30 years.

The main problem with most Tamils is that they think they are smart than others around them. They always try to outsmart others by being smart. What they don’t realise is “you may fool some for some time” but “you cannot fool all for all the time” because of this most of these smart Tamils loose more than their gain later by being too smart.

Some of these smart cookies who try to fool western forces to get undue advantage over SLG matters are now getting exposed. Soon they will be losing much more than they imagined. They also tried to win unwarranted sympathy from International community.

However, next few years will show them massive rejection of Tamils from international community.
The final outcome is Tamils will never ever get a state of their own. They lost all in north of Sri Lanka thanks to Tamil Diaspora and the pig they relied on.

Nishantha forcibly sits on the SPC chairman’s seat, session suspended

November 5, 2009 10:18 am

Inaugural session of the Southern Provincial Council was suspended moments ago after SPC member Nishantha Muthuhettigama forcibly occupied the chairman’s seat. This drollery had taken place after the UPFA proposed the name of Mohan Silva as the chairman and the UNP proposing the name of Nishantha.

Before his name was seconded Nishantha has forcibly sat on the chairman’s seat, upon which the UPFA members had removed him from the seat. The session was thus suspended.

Muthuhetti shows signs of manic depression (no humor). He seriously needs medical help.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Sam,

In a sinhala way of saying, he seems like possessed by devil [yakaa aavesha velaa] and the Yakaa is none other than UNP, notably the evil clan of UNP who does nothing other than destablishing the country.

Muthuhettigama is not a fool either. He plays the best cards for his advantage.
Once he played right cards by opposing Sajin and Anarkalie, hence pretending he's the voice of SLFP southerners [of whom, most didn't like the parachute politics model of last SPC]. That is how he got 71k+ votes.

Now he knows that he has no future in SLFP anymore, and he is already collecting UNP votes. He'll change sides just at the time of nomination for a GE. Knowing the UNPers, I'm sure he can get to top 3 pref votes in UNP list.

He himself said that "anarkalie nangi gave him free publicity". In fact he manipulated matters to get that. He will continue the same.

SL is heading into political instability.

this will have a MAJOR defence mpact. i blame the BLOODY IDIOTIC govt for this 100%. its their fault 100%.

why the fcuk can't they hold the election/s ASAP??

OPTION#1
if PE and GE were to be held, why the fcuk the PE was not declared for the 20 november (immediately after 4 years)??? and GE soon to follow???

OPTION#2
only the GE is due. why the fcuk the govt didn't hold it in june/july???

easily they could have got 125+.

now its a bloody mess. the trade unions are gong to strike. JVP and UNP are tring very hard to unpopularise the govt and they are succeeding thanks to the EXTREME STUPIDITY of the govt.

by march 2010 the govt will be EXTREMELY unpopular. MR or whoever from the UPFA will have a HARD BATTLE to win the election. there is also the possibility of a loss or a difficult coalition.

this instability has defence implications.

like SF said, MR thinks the war victory as a lottery ticket win. as the saying goes,

a great fortune in the hands of a fool is a great misfortune.

MR is showingsigns of stupidity, given up nature and fatigue may be for the first time. this is most likely his downfall, unless something drastically change.

we had a say in the war. but we have no say in politics. it is left to bloody idiots.

does anyone have contacts of top politicos????

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Moshe;

I would agree for most although I won't call it a political instability.

MR is making mistake after mistake since May19th. Each action of his takes away some of his popularity. Worst is that he's lost his sensors which felt the heartbeat of ppl.

It is not really his fault. Being a prisoner among his team, it is teh team and close advisers who whow signs of fatigue and senselessness. In fact he has crated many new alibies whom would give rat's care as long as they get what they want.

I still believe that MR can win 125 seats if he holds election next year [provided he won't do a very foolish thing]. As long asRW is there he wins.

And RW is surely his greatest fortune and best weapon.

Moshe Dyan said...

SK,

it is his fault.

why did he teamed up with crap??

bcos he didn't have the parliamentary majority. he had the BEST chance of having 125+ but kicked it.

lates news....

wht BS is this?? wrong timing. budget deficit is running 30% high and selective wage increases?? and now all the others will demand increases.

Sujeewa Kokawala said...

Moshe;

I am having the same criticism you have. Note that I have always been skeptical about MR. I still have following hypothesis about MR.

- MR did not really really intended the war and the result. He was provided with ideological support by likes of JVP, NFF, JHU. Reason: MR never spoke against evil plots like, GL Pieris Solution, Equal-opportunity act [which was not really giving that] , or P-TOMS.

- Prime secret of war victory is SF/GR. MR and others did support them, but they themselves had no national plan. SF and GR with all their influencing powers made their private plan thru.

- MR is a good leader, best after 1970, but he is still another SL-type politician.

- MR likes the new supporters than his old lot. A very bad feature of an individual. RW has this weakness.

- MR's economic development will be slightly better than RP. But anything will be a great relief as after RP, both CBK and RW never did any development at all.

- MR has no proper plans, not for war, not for economy. But at some places he had crispy men at work. For war GR/SF came up with the plan and they won. For intl affairs ppl like Mahinda S/ DJ etc. Sadly he will need equal names for economy or else, there won't be any such development.

- MR is a strong man with a backbone, which I admire.

Note that I did not blame MR here. We need to take him as a human - that means with weaknesses. I still blame for teh ppl close to him than himself for misconduct.

There is a conspiracy to label Sarath Fonseka as a traitor -National movement to protect war heroes

As far as we know, Gotabaya Rajapakse was questioned by the US Immigration Authorities when he visited the UN Foundation under Diplomatic immunity last September. Gotabaya is an American resident. He did not disclose theses details until now; and according to sources, Gen. Fonseka was not aware of this Gotabaya‘s questioning until he left for USA. Had he been made known of this questioning, Gen. Fonseka would not have been subjected to this embarrassment, and he could have averted it.

We therefore see this as a clear political conspiracy to dent the image of General Sarath Fonseka, the speakers said.

The $64,000 question is; why Mahinda is so unpopular with lot of Sinhalese even after wining the war against LTTE?

---------------------------

Perhaps because many Sinhalese remember a time not so long ago when Sri Lanka was more of a functioning, if occasionally dysfunctional, democracy.

MR does deserve considerable respect for finally bringing the LTTE to their demise but in doing so he has employed a number of means which are questionable and, I suspect, not cricket in the eyes of moderate Sri Lankans. Quite a few folks have a difficult time reconciling the victory over the terrorists with some of the methods by which the victory was won in addition to the subsequent and continuing treatment of their fellow Sri Lankans in the north.

There is also the real concern that MR and his brothers are unduly treating the Country as if it were something of a personal fiefdom and this perception is not sitting well with ordinary folks who see nothing wrong with questioning a sitting government or supporting opposition parties as is the right of any citizen in a democracy.

Sam, my dearist of the dim bulbs... be you the fake or the real one.

Blood is thicker than water.

The good General, having seen all that is evil in this world first hand, is at a point in his life/career where what is most valuable to him is his progeny.

In this case they live in the U.S.A. and for him to seek means by which he can visit his children, their children and their children's children is nothing more than the instinctual need to be connected to one's greatest asset.

Not a passport.

Not a military victory or place of said victory.

Not an edifice or reminder of importance.

The simple and most important thing in life... family.

If nothing else has not the General earned the right to be with his children?

Please... what is the matter with you people that this basic issue is beyond your understanding?

Folks, read the article below and try and understand what the Tamil diaspora really wants....

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 5, 2009 -- In response to a Tamils for Obama poll titled "What next for Tamils?" thousands of Tamils world-wide endorsed (by 94%) the idea of a transnational government representing the interest of Tamils everywhere.

Besides endorsing the idea of a transnational government, the Tamils answering the poll preferred the term "transnational government (82%)" to "government in exile (18%)". They also wanted a stateless transnational government (by 95%), but if there were to be a host country the Tamils' favorite choice was Norway (by 25%), followed by the U.K., the U.S.A, Canada, Switzerland, and sixty other countries.

The Tamils also favored bringing war crimes charges against Sri Lankan government officials in international courts (99%). The Tamil respondents also believed that the international community could change the behavior of the GOSL toward Tamils (95%), a response that surprised many at Tamils for Obama.

To the poll's last question, "What should be the Tamils ultimate goal?", the answer was no surprise. The Tamils overwhelmingly want an independent Tamil state (90%), with much smaller percentages wishing for a confederation (9%), some local control and ethnic recognition within a unified state (1%), or continuing with the present government (0.2%).

The poll was conducted by internet from October 14, 2009 to November 04, 2009. Respondents from 66 counties answered the poll, with 10154 people participating.

The war is gone, wouldn't this mean lot of savings from the budget. The Hambantota port is to be completed soon. New investments are coming in for the development of the NE. Also the inflation would be going down. Investor confidence in SL would be higher as never before.
As far as I keen see, economic wise, this would be the best period in SL since independence.

So, I am not clear why there is so much fear about the economy of SL?
I understand the economy can be better managed, corruption reduced e.t.c e.t.c. But isn't this, or isn't this going to be one of the best economic active periods in history of SL.
Also his international relations are the best as far as I have seen from a political leader, making strong relationships with nations (although people believe that they are rouge nations). Looking towards the east and making strong ties and making good commercial agreement the way to go.

It would have been good to win the election by holding it soon after the election. But that wouldn't be fair. This is much better, this way he wouldn't win the election just because of the military victory. So people cannot say, yeah you won because the army gave you a military victory. If he needs 2/3 then it is not a good idea, but if he doesn't need 2/3 this is o.k.

So if he take up the economic portfolio and put all effort in this direction and build up a good economic team in the same way he did the war, SL would be a good place.

Thusitha/Moshe;

Re: Why the GE/PE is delayed

As per official news MR waits for some major party meeting in mid november to democratically decide which election his ruling party can choose. So the concern will soon be cured.

He didn't go into election soon after May19th as he wanted to test with PC elections and also was compelled to hold them. Then he got a shock from SPC election where he found way behind expectation, although he won 2/3. So on behalf of Mr I have to say it is fair to delay elections. Anyway he is compelled to have GE before April, so if his party decides to hold PE, it will be very very soon [or the same day].

Re: Economic Development

Thusitha, as per the records it is perhaps the period where outside investors paid highest interest in SL. Yet the outcome is quite small. We still don't have the outsources coming from bluechip companies.

SL economy still depends on few exports. IT has not even come closer to the top list. It is a long way, and honestly I see no progress in that line.

However, anyone can mismanage and mess the good progress. MR has resp to put a good guy in handling economic issues.

GR may qualify for his honesty, but whom I like to see is a man with like education. As I said only a little portion of IT makes to our GDP. We still haven't found the magic formula which brings big firms to SL.

[[Does this have anything to do with the war for the past 30 years? We need to wait for another 5 six months to see the real interest from foreign investors. We got some of the best IT as well as very skilled accountant base. I think it is a matter of time for it to start to grow. Hopefully this would happen sooner than later.]]

I have little belief that local IT suffered due to War heavily. Local IT is not going at big scale as ppl don't bring investments like in India. India's migrant community "broke the ice" for blue chip companies to move in. And their semi-private uni structure provided the needed support for recruitment.

SL expat community has a great role here, yet I have little compliments to local uni structure.

IT outsourcing happen on the personal trust and there is an essential intermediator. Most IT firms in SL worked out with the foreign links they have. But their contribution to GDP is very much insignificant.

I don't see/think that anything is making a big progress there. If any, we'll e able to tell in next yr or so.

Sri Lanka is to retain GSP+ despite of some disgruntled politicians utterances in the west. EC does not want to lose the leverage they have over SLG for minor matters like alleged HR violations.

This will be another setback for eelamists and their backers. Especially Norway has lost its face as a terrorist supporter and biased mediator in international arena. Hilary and Miliband settling into a Karunabudi style hibernation because of escalation of violence in Afghanistan and Iraq. Eric Solehiem has lost his marbles and hiding inside a garbage bin.

HR watch dogs maintain their silence over Iraq and Afghanistan but eagerly waiting to see and hear something from another third world country make all sort of noises again.

Mahabooru day is coming closer and die hard eelamists are waiting to hear from Thaleivar the sun goat’s address from the special podium erected northern corner of the hell. Meanwhile most of the Tamil Diaspora members and Sri Lankan Tamils get on with their day to day activities as nothing has happened.

another BULLSHIT operation is going on sponsored by dailymirror (RW's mother's newspaper).

"Democratic People’s Front Leader Mano Ganesan came out with a new disclosure yesterday saying General Sarath Fonseka had sent one of his representatives for a discussion with him recently after he threatened to withdraw from the opposition Alliance if the General was nominated as the common alliance candidate. He said he had informed the representative that he had no personal grudge against him.

"I discussed issues like abolishing the executive presidency and tackling the IDP issue,” Mr. Ganesan without disclosing the name or details discussed with General Fonseka’s representative.

this bugger is bullshitting as usual.

1. IF SF joins the (K)UNA CRAP, tamil ppl will not vote.

2. IF SF doesn't join the (K)UNA mano gona-son will be happy.

stop spreading bullshit DM. no one believes this crap.

Moshe;

[[the ONLY way tangible economic benefits would come is through COLONIZATION.

tourism, FDIs, rajaratnam, etc. cannot improve the economic conditions of the poorest.]]

Golden words.

Whole IT sector is < 100k employees. Altogether forms ~200k defendants [as most are unmarried]. Sector has a growth rate < 10% after war victory. Sector is vulnerable to all sorts of economic storms around the world.

Capacity for farming after basic irrigation [basic: every water way has a functional "wewa" and canal system] in Wanni, is surely more than 500000 more families, covering a population of ~1.5 mill, with a production that is not hindered by economic crisis anywhere.

If we're gonna match the outcome of that boom with IT, we need at min 10 times current unis, plus 20 times entrepreneurs as today, suddenly jumping into SL.

Right now SL IT sector is a mere ornament. So is CSE.

SK/thusitha,

there is another side i didn't see about the elections.

1. delay
2. not knowing when
3. not knowing what election/s
4. not knowing what will come FIRST

has landed (K)UNA in deep shit. hack-him and mongal seem to be very worried about it.

keep them guessing but hold the election ASAP.

the gap between election date and declaration should be the legal MINIMUM.

take them by surprise.

SK,

yes.

what underlies persistant, tangible and stable economic development

1. food security

2. turning ZERO earners and NEGATIVE earners (subsidy receipients) to earners is a MUST for any economic development. there is NO WAY they can be employed without giving them land. and land is in ABUNDANCE in vanni and jaffna.

3. the MASSIVE army should be managed with LEAST continuous economic burden.

4. there are 1,500,000 hectares of land WAITING to be cultivated/developed. ignore this and we are stuffed.

Guys
You must be hearing the unfolding news of a fundamentalist army officers gone on a shooting spree in a army camp in Texas named Hood where he had killed 12 persons. This is another wake up call to USA that they must identify with countries like Sri Lanka who is fighting it’s band of ruthless terrorists who may have set roots in USA and Canada.
