If this was the handy work of the LTTE, as the gov alleges:

1. SLA would have known about the plan via "intercepted radio communication".

2. MI would have warned DefeneNet and the likes at least a day earlier.

3. SLAF would have destroyed the "parcel bombers training base".

LTTE has lost at least 3200 cadres in 2008 alone. Combined with the thousands lost during the "liberation" of the east, LTTE would be short of manpower to guard its leaders let alone send some to the south. Never-mind the fact the all LTTE cadres, with the exception of Pirapakaran and Pottuamman, are "abducted children" who would simply "runaway" at the first given opportunity.

What is the logic in this comment? If Sam Perera becomes a Tamil for a day he will end up in jail being tortured. That means if you choose a Tamil person randomly and watch him, within one day he should end up in jail and will be tortured. That means all the Tamils living in Sri Lanka are being tortured at least once a day like a ritual. Absurd logic. I wish we can do that for LTTErs.

This is the problem with LTTE sympethisers now days. They utter many thousand words. But no logic behind those. LTTE killed the cream of the Tamils. Now we are left with stupid terrorist sympathizers ("hun tsu's disciple" is an exception. He is a smart sympathizer).

Do you have a doctorate in moronics? Doofus, there are more Tamils living in the South than the North these days. If Tamils choose to live in south with all the noted torture, there must be something worse happening in Vanni? Moron, take these two cents to buy a few clues before you open your mouth.

My sympathies to those who were killed and injured in this horrific premeditated attack on civilians.

Going back to previous threads, DN or DW might want to enlighten me on this:

If the SLA was aware of an impending Tiger attack, wouldn't it have been wiser to go in to an ultra defensive mode and train all available guns at them and wait for the attack. Given well-entrenched defenders generally have an advantage; we could have decimated the Tigers when the real attack came. Afterwards we could have called in the Air Force to attack the fleeing Tigers and their positions (i.e. if the Army is cautious about sharing intelligence with other arms of the tri forces) and pursued the Tigers without too much trouble. This whole story about the preemptive strike doesn't sound right to me. May be someone could explain why this was the better strategy.

The other puzzling aspect is, why wasn't the Air Force called in as soon as the fighting started and the Army decided to move southward. It appears as if the call went in much later. Is the SLA not willing to share the glory with the others? Are personal differences and egos beginning to hinder our fight against terrorism? Hopefully the government can provide the necessary and correct leadership in these important matters.

Finally, I have noticed that there is a tendency to label as traitors those who point out deficiencies in the strategies adopted by the government and the armed forces. While we should acknowledge whole-heartedly the positive contributions and sacrifices made by all Sri Lankans in this fight against terrorism, we should not let people escape scot-free for sheer incompetence.

Few days back a person called Beria (may be David blacker) was complaining that we were being unprofessional. One reason, we were calling names for terrorists. Eg. Carcass maggots. It made me wonder. Why are we doing that? The answer is simple. We don’t respect them. Actually we hate them. This is why we hate them.

Kahapola is a remote area in the neighborhood of Bolgoda Lake. Even though it is not that far from Colombo facilities are no better than in a remote village. Especially the transportation. In the Kahapola route up to Madapatha bus service is better. But beyond that point people has to mostly depend on CTB for their day today transportations. Sometimes people have to wait more than an hour to take a bus. Especially when a one bus is out of order. (Earlier, somebody was complaining “why people do get in to a packed bus without waiting for the next one”. Very insensitive comment. The next bus may come after one and half hours.)

The backbone of the economy is the earnings of the people working in the surrounding cities including Colombo. They have to wake up early. Otherwise they would miss the early bus and be late for the work. Because of the transport time they leave early and come home late. By Friday evening, after five days of hard work they are tired looking men and women. After Fridays work they take one bus to Piliyandala. Then they go to the market and buy some vegetables for next few days and some fruit or sweet for their kids. After this ritual they have to wait in a queue for the last part of their voyage. Even though very tired, being cheered up due to the sense of coming weekend they exchange pleasantries with many other known faces while waiting for the bus. 150 persons for a bus is a norm at this time. Many have to keep standing packed between the seats. People who are seated help those who do not have that privilege by taking their parcels and keeping them on their laps. Some parcels are placed under the seats.

These are the innocent men and women the terrorists intentionally targeted to kill with the full consent of their leaders. This is the reason why I hate them so much. There won’t be any civility between the terrorists (or terra sympathizers) and myself.

Upul said...

The GOSL is fully responsible for planting a parcel bomb on its own bus to frame LTTE. GOSL time to time to wants to remind sinhala public why its fighting the LTTE, so when morale low etc, they do these stunts against their own civilians. Life of Sinhalese is soo cheap that anything happens.

chamal said...

Thiru,

"Latest intelligence reports had revealed that the LTTE announced 84 names killed in the battle so far while 71 of them were now at Kilinochchi. Sixteen of them had been identified as leading LTTE leaders."

Is there any truth to this or should we take them with pinch of salt?

Absolutely not true, a majority of Tamils have been living in other parts of Sri Lanka even before the conflict started. For example, take the district of Colombo, get the population census reports and see for yourself.

what some of this terrorist advocates living abroad don't know is that there are almost as many tamil civilians in colombo as there are sinhalese... maybe more!I spent most of my life in Colombo, went to school and made plenty of friends, both sinhalese and tamil. The tamils with permanent residences have almost nothing to worry about, but for those who are temporarily visiting from sovereign areas that have been forcibly occupied by a terrorist organisation, theres obviously the risk of terrorist infiltrators. the police can't just wait around for more suicide bombings to happen... they have to be proactive! If that means the forcible eviction of a few civilians, it must be so.If there was no threat of civilian suicide bombers , this sort of occurance will not take place.

In the case of aerial bombings, its obvious that the airforce doesn't target civilians. These collateral damage are very difficult to avoid. Be glad that it isn't the US military your fighting! They will pay no heed to civilian casualties and just carpet bomb the whole of vanni! The SL airforce can do the same to an extent but the last thing they want is to kill civilians! There are times where misinformation can be fed to those in charge.

what i've seen from most of the terrorist supporters are gross exaggerations from the ground reality.

"LTTE supporters don't support killing of civilians and fully condemn such acts. Who would benefit from an attack on sinhala civillians ?

Definitely the Rajapakse government no body else."

This is exactly what I meant when I said "this is done overtly and covertly". In this instance, the support for the LTTE is covert.

Rover said...

To explain my point further, once the damage is done, and the goal of the terrorists is achieved (terrorising civilians), the LTTE goes into a damage control mode. This is done by accusing the gov. of killing the civilians. A well known ploy in propaganda (black propaganda).

Rover said...

"LTTE supporters don't support killing of civilians and fully condemn such acts."

Final point. Upul pretty much admits that he/she is an LTTE supporter. But the above statement doesn't really say that the LTTE doesn't kill civilians. It only says, LTTE supporters don't support killing civilians. Readers, please read between the lines, and it is pretty much apparent what is going on.

hemantha said...

"In the same way GoSL-supporters must also force GoSL to stop executing Tamils in cold blood"

If I find an LTTE terrorist I hope I will have enough courage to remove him from this world. Any non-LTTE Tamil as a human being is a brother to me. But if he is a both Tamil and a terrorist do I have any other option. Of course not. Because, he may explode a bomb in a bus on the very next day.

The government is in the same situation. A terrorist is a terrorist. Tamilness in him doesn't make him any pure.

Secondly, the government intentionally killing a terrorist and a terrorist intentionally killing many innocent men and women are two completely different scenarios. The first if the government has no other choice is acceptable. The second is a crime and who commit those should be directed towards the first scenario.

Terrorists all over the world try to mix the two. Hope it won’t work.

From time to time the party in power feels the need to kill some "civilians" in order to keep its poltico/military agenda on track.

There are two exclusive characteristics to these attacks.

They exclusively target "poor" people and the explosion is caused by a remote device.

A roadside bomb would have similar chances of killing a Minister's daughter in her S-Class as much as it has of killing a poor cart pusher. However, parcel bomb on a bus will only kill poor folks.

Yesterday's bombing produced emotionally charged photos to ease "human rights" pressure from IC, and remind the Sinhala people what they are fighting against.

Moshe Dyan said...

If any VIP from the MoD is reading this, he should consider retaliation.

Retaliation is not about revenging. It is about linking the cause and the effect together so that terrorists will think twice before attacking civilians again.

The reasons for the LTTE to attack civilians is to put pressure on the govt. to reduce operations in the north. If we fall into this we are finish as terrorists will ONCE AGAIN kill civilians whenever they want some concession from the govt.

It is like beggars. The number of beggars increase not in proportion to poverty, but in proportion to the lucrativeness of beggary.

In east timor there are fewer beggars than in the US as a percentage. The more you give the more they come.

When the LTTE finds that they have more to lose than gain by killing civilians, they will stop.

If you let Ltters come into a blog and spew untruth, when a heinous crime has been committed against civilians, and then leave unscathed having finished achieving their objectives, that is even more damaging to the civilians of the country (and also denigrative to the victim who lost life). An unknown visitor reading the blog could very well come into the conclusion that actually what these guys are telling is true. The repetition (especially when unchallenged) makes people believe that what is being said is true. In propaganda terminology it is known as argumentum ad nauseam.

Finally, even when we were the victims, LTTE gets an advantage out of this. Ok, thats it.

These poor tamils are harresed everywhere. They cant go to north, AF is bombing them. Come to south the police lock them up. Come to the cyber space poor sods are bullied! Complaining, complaining, complaining..............

Rover said...

"As readers and users we should never replied to them until administrator delete them."

The question Eranda is will they be deleted? I don't think so. Freedom of expression perhaps also comes into play (I don't know if DW is concerned about this, but some of the administrators are).

The administrators also can't constantly monitor the comments of the readers. Its just not feasible.

To complicate the matters further, most of the visitors that visit a news blog spot just read the article, and perhaps the comments that are already there only once.

So if there are a lot of untrue comments left by the LTTErs that are not challenged at that point of time, people will believe that these are true.

I saw Peter's comments last night. And they are still there. So someone has to do something about it. Those arguments need be analyzed and proven wrong, if they are not removed quickly.

We'd better stop talking about this, or the two of us will get pulled up for breach of the blog code.

Unfortunately we don't have Generals like Sun-Tzu who thought the best victory is in a war that is won without being fought. So for the time being, we have to put up with the bloody war.

"Air Force fighter jets made precision air raids at identified LTTE artillery positions located North of Welioya this evening"

How many arties does LTTE have?

Muhamalai, Nagarkoil, Mannar, Vavuniya and now Manalaaru. At 3 pieces each you are looking at a minimum of 15.

"You raised very good points. I think DefenceWire should explain how he is going to handle the situation; and we should act/help accordingly."

Eranda, we'll see how this works out DW was my safe heaven, were I could talk and ask questions about defense matters. And I was jolted to see it rampaged by terrorists, and hence the rather unusual reaction from my part. Nice talking to you, cheers.

rover,

sorry you are the one who is supposing things.I call you Gosl-supporter from the sum of your posts over quite sometime(includ DN).
Even if you are not its not cause for getting worked up.Relax.

Rover said...

Sun Tzu,

So you are telling me that I am a GOSL supporter, when I am saying I may be not?

Ok, lets say, I wanted to depict myself as a GOSL supporter. Was I successful?

According to you I was. End of argument?

It must have been rather a huge bomb; if it took nine people to carry it.

And what is all this advise about relaxing mate, I am relaxing. Did I touch a nerve somewhere? Blogging is what I do to relax.

"Relax. End of argument.Done."

You mean blog more?

As relaxing = blogging for me.

After all, Sun Tzu's disciple is not made of same stuff as the Great General Sun-Tzu.

General Sun-Tzu would never have picked up a needless argument with someone who was not really attacking the great general himself.

Hope we part as friends.

rover,

I feel your English-language skills may not be up to the mark.Hence you are seeing offence where there is none, picking arguments where there is none, wasting blog-space on non-military chatter, taking bait from others and the like.

We are neither friends nor enemies.Let this be the last post.Bye.

Rover,
"And what is all this advise about relaxing mate"

He is trying to infer that you are disturbed. A way of changing your mode to defensive. Just don't worry. Keep up your work.

Sun Tzu,

"I feel your English-language skills may not be up to the mark.Hence you are seeing offence where there is none, picking arguments where there is none, wasting blog-space on non-military chatter, taking bait from others and the like."

Wow! Now this is called Ad Hominem in propaganda technique (I taught this to Upul in the morning) - attacking the opponent without attacking the opponents arguments.

Pray may I ask, was it you who talked to me first or I to you? It was you. So I should have the last say.

You were calling me a GOSL supporter! If you said I was a SLDF supporter, I would have been ok with it. It is because I know the language really well that I was disappointed (especially when it was coming from you).

Sun-Tzu (this is the great general, not the disciple) also said you need to know your enemy really well before setting about subduing him.

Rover said...

And hence, my final conclusion is you are not good enough to be called Sun-Tzu's disciple. Sun-Tzu would fart in his grave.

Finally, Sun-Tzu would have said he would be like to friends with someone when/if it was offered to him. Remember his most venerated statement? The best victory is the one that is made without fighting a war (not verbatim). This meant, try to make friends with your enemy, as was is always costly.

Rover said...

Thanks Hemantha, Now I am off. Lets see if Sun-Tzu would be unmanly enough to back-stab me, when I am not here to defend. Bye.

Rover said...

Damn, Halfway down the stairs, I remember that I should have said Sun-Tzu's Disciple instead of Sun Tsu in my last post. Sorry.

Peter said...

My penny's worth

Rover said: "as I tried to refer to Peter, who by his comments seems to be like an LTTE supporter"

In the above mentioned instance you have assumed that I am an LTTE supporter. Likewise, Disciple made the assumption that you were a supporter of the GoSL, based on your comments.

I know who I support, and you know who you support. It is not for others to dictate our alliances.

Please don't get so emotionally charged. Just remember that "comment is free".

radio australia report

Tamil Tiger rebels using light aircraft bombed two military targets in northeastern Sri Lanka early Sunday

Military sources say at least one soldier was wounded when the rebels hit two targets in the Weli Oya region....

The damage caused is insignificant, but the attack is symbolic and shows that the rebels have coordinates of military installations

Sources say the rebel aircraft managed to withdraw unchallenged despite new anti-aircraft defences set up by the military in the island's northern and eastern regions.

The target of the LTTE attack was an arms depot and artillery launch pad used by GOSL terrorist to perform unprovoked attacks on Tamil territory. Both targets were said to have been completely neutralized.

I don’t understand why LTTE is trying to separate Tamils from Sri Lankans it only caused to end valuable 70,000 lives. As we all know where ever we go or stay Tamils and Singhalese live peacefully unless this LTTE is trying to gain undue sympathy showing a wrong picture to the world. This is what we all should admit and try to correct.. If you are a Tamil think how easily you can come to south and even if you are from north.. I understand the times when the war is intense there will be checking just to make sure u too are not going to die in a suicide attack. But just think as a whole we live with Tamils in Sri Lanka.. They have their own identity.. As Sinhalese aren’t we respect them.. Aren’t they our friends.. I have Tamil friends in Sri Lanka living next to us.. Are we fighting.. We all live together.. Just let the world know this war is wrong.. Sri Lanka is just one country for all of us.. We lived peacefully unless the times some power maniac come and brainwashed everyone to hate each other. This is the truth and this is what world should know.. Sri Lankan government is a legitimate government to all the races living in Sri Lanka.. We all vote for that government. It is representing the whole nation. We as Sri Lankan are not suppressed or under any grip of power. We all are free. Tamils Muslim Sinhalese no matter what. So as real Sri Lankan try to give the real situation to the world to understand.
This LTTE is not a legitimate organization.. so it should be beaten and freedom should prevail to the innocent Tamils who live under LTTE iron arm.
