Few thoughts :
1). It is SL culture that people rarely talk bad about a man after a his death. However this was changed at Ranjan wijerathne, Premadasa and Wijeweera's death where some are fired crackers. (Modern SL Tamil suicide culture is different that they like to see more blood and flesh and cheers over death bodies...!)
2). Whenever LTTE threatned by one person or party, they try to demolish that strength. That is why they killed Lalith to destroy Premadasa. It was well timed and excuted to kill Premadasa politically. Then when everybody blame Premadasa, LTTE killed him. At that time, even hardcore UNPers had little sympthay for Premadasa. RESULT : SL LOST TWO OF THE GREAT MEN WHO COULD POSE DIRECT THREAT TO LTTE.
So this may be just a part of the big picture yet to come.Down-side for LTTE is, they had to use a suicider this time. Which is trademark LTTE.
3). Only option is they can use Mr. Browns and Lasantha's to spread that ;this was not a suicide but a timed-bomb. Hope people are evolved now. If they and UNP try to do that who will fool who..?
4). It seems Anuradhapura and subrubs have good safe houses for LTTE (AAB, this one..). Though not ethical, immediate working solution is to sent "White Van" and make 50 eelamist bodies in Anuradhapura and suburbs. This solution may prevent people in Wanni to come to Vauniya. Or this may be what LTTE wants too. But it will work.
This is what LTTE can do now. Can't beat Army...so send suciders and kill unprotected civilians. Diaspora want more Sinhala/Muslim bodies (either Army or civil)..more flesh. they throw money to see flesh...

Just after reading Divaina today very suspicious idea came to my mind such as to this function which Gen Perera was killed why non of the leading members of UNP didn't participate. When openning a UNP center anywhere in country usually Ranil or Tissa or any other leading member come for opening.But for this important task non of them participated. All those who partcipated are not high profile UNP eras.
Tissa say he is busy. Ranil say he is too busy also. UNP Anuradhapura MP P.Harrison say he came to Colombo. Apart from UNP mp of Vauvniya none of others except few provincial council members participated. How this could happen ?. Why none of high profile UNP leaders didn't participated?. It's seem like some of them well aware about this plot. Investigators and genaral public should think about this point. Some people like John Amaratunga and Jayalath Jayawardena are good friends of enemy of our mother land. How LTTE came to know about this openning?. Before to plan something like this they take lot of time, According to relevant sources this opening was planned few days ago. Only leading UNP members are aware about this and didn't gave much publicity.

You may want to check this link to see how the nation treats Col. Karuna. For your future reference, we don't have the practice of turning our back on those who stand for a united Sri Lanka. We all are equal in Sri Lanka and we will do our very best to help the deserving citizens, regardless of their past. Who Killed Janaka Perera?
One might say Vezapillai or ZTTE whoever the suicide cadre killed him. Well some others say MR/GR/SF/TMVP or Berty killed him. Or GSL killed him using TMVP militants. But as witnesses it was a sucide cadre blew himself so it should be LTTE. But my claim is different, using different approach.
UNP knew the only reason MR winning elections is the success of war. Thus UNP/RW started critizising war whenever possible, whenever SLA/SLAF get high damages. But any critisism towards MR's war effort from UNP/RW was badly rejected by people.
Now at this time RW thought about JP. RW knew JP was loyal UNPer and hence will not say NO to him, the leader of UNP. Also, he thought it is much more effective to critisise MR/GR/SF and thier war effort by a real war hero like JP, rather than Karialla or his other failed boot lickers.
Then he contacted JP who was in Malayasia and build up the relationship. GSL got to know this and immediately remove him from his post, as UNP expected. First UNP used him via LasanthaW's leader newspapers. I think JP was over confident about himself and RW found it quickly and gave him CM candidacy for NCPC which was the worst province for UNP.
In such case, RW/UNP cleary knew MR would try to take him to his side, possible security problems when he goes to public, LTTE threats, possible security reductions, mud slingings and all pitty political things will happen. So all of those things happened as expected.
If RW or any UNP MP really loved JP's life they should advise him to stay away from politics at least temporely. But rather RW/UNP were happy to see conflicts between a former war hero and present war heros. There is no garantee of any one's security until VP is there. Knowing all this it is RW/UNP who used JP against the MR government as tool against MR's war effort. Now even after he was killed we can see UNP/RW try to get maximum benifit even from his dead body.
RW/UNP used JP knowing very clearly the risk he faced to his life due to UNP/RW's tactic. Nomatter who is the sucide bomber, for me, Janaka Perera's killer is Ranil Wikramasinghe and UNP.

Ninja..it's a weak argument here. What can CEO do when his company's stock goes down? He desperately needs a fresh investment from the credible source, if he succeeds, the general public will think that his franchise is just doing fine. UNP thought that JP with his track record can turn things around and win the confidence of public. There are no conspiracy theories or lack of moral values in this case, it's just plain politics.
There is a silver lining here. As macabre as it sounds, this suicide bombing may have paved a clear path for future R2P ops in Vanni.
How can now Goppalswami et al now shout "Sri Lanka army killing civilians" with a straight face? Each vindictive act by LTTE had far worse repercussions on them.

Global recession is on the doorsteps, and countries will find hard time finding the additional cash for their extracurricular activities. Country like SL who mainly depends on the foreign money for its huge military budget may find some difficulties to get the flow going since its donor countries are getting into recession. If LTTE can sustain the war into another 18 months, they will dictate the terms later on.

Unfortunately everything is relative. The global recession will hit everyone including LTTE. The LTTE will be hit especially since their assets are most probably invested in overseas funds in Swiss and US accounts specially. I hate to think what their assets are worth at current market prices. Without A9 to tax people, loss of income from plantations they used to have in Mallawi etc and potential 'tax payers' fleeing Wanni is going to put them in a very difficult posisition.
The govt on the other hand obtain funds from Iran, China etc that have been least impacted. The funds have already allocated for the next budget nevertheless.
Even then, there will be a recovery the third quarter next year. By that time LTTE its very unlikely to be in any position to dictate terms.

If that is th case, why not make 56 defensive unit offensive? LTTE is concentrating on Kili, why not make a new offensive front around east of Omanthai?

No progress? Spare us the LTTE disinformation. Mallavi was taken one month ago. Since then the army has advanced from Mallavi to borders of Mankulam and Kilinochi. Fighting the best troops the LTTE have. Quite a considerable distance and progress. True, not much progress straight north for the 58. But they have now in recent days taken and advanced north of LTTE's big earth bund obstacle. Now there is relatively open terrain and progress will probably pick up there also.

Yes Panhinda, I’m not advocating that we go to war with India. Far from it :) However, what I’m saying is that India or Tamil Nadu don’t have the moral high ground. Further, why do they make noises only when Tamil civilians are killed? I have not heard India condemning yesterdays bomb blast. We need to get them to be even handed and not have double standards. I certainly understand that we need to do it diplomatically.

Probably because because GoSL always thought it could count on people like Jayalitha (fiercely anti-LTTE) and the Indian central government (also fiercely anti-LTTE) to bat for them.
This looks to be changing, for various reasons. Even Jayalitha has come out in recent days to voice her solidarity with the Tamil people. It is strange; it suggests that the grassroots pressure in Tamil Nadu for an intervention must be very strong. There must be lots of votes to win/lose for the parties concerned.
I'm starting to seriously wonder if the recent lull in the battlefield has anything to do with the developing intrigue in India.
Very unlikely that the grass roots pressure in Tamil Nadu would have reached the front lines in the Vanni. However, we need to take extra precautions to avoid civilians casualties which is probably why the progress has slowed. The ltte shot itself in the foot by killing 27 civilians outside the Vanni.
Dont blame India. Indian government has helped SLDF in many ways to tackle LTTE. No proper use of resources caused this end. Vavuniya attacked sparked everything. SF should have been tought to hide some sensitive resources. Indian soldiers should have not allowed beyond anurarathapura. Now this became as irritating issue.
Ranil never do this wrong. He is educated man and cunning fox. MR and SF are village sandiyans who could mislead majority of the population in the way they like but not in the way intel wants.

The reason it didn't make noise with yesterdays bomb blast is because Sinhalese or Moslems being harmed does not have a bearing on their security. Whether we like it or not, this is how the game is played. We have always been smart and that is how we survived in this region this long. We need to THINK and act without being confrontational but also win the game. Have you heard the saying "lose the argument, win the sale"? This should give you some indication what im thinking. There are a number of possible scenarios. I have thought about this and we always come on top. So fear not, there is always hope.

What I see is central gov of India has to make TN politicians little happy. But they do not want to go any further than that, unless their pushed in to situations where they have no choice.
If a day comes when India will ask us to stop the war we should be ready for it.
Yes we can ask for Pakistan and china help... But that would only make things worse for us in the long run, bottom fact is we need India as our friend at least on the outside.
The way i see we should take killi as soon as possible is the best choice. Since we have the ability to do that it must be done as fast as possible. After killi is under our control even TN politicians would feel that ltte has no political strength left. Cornered to small area of land we can deal with them properly later.
but if killi remains under ltte control and if India ask us to stop the war then we would be in major disadvantage.

Yes there is overall battle progress report on defence lk but what really does it say. if we are informed its thanks to DN and DW. But I guess even they have to make sure important data is not given to the enemy.
As long as the SLDF is moving forward I don’t mind been in the dark till the day we hear Killi has fallen...

Do u think less people will die if we let the ltte do as it pleases? I certainly don’t think so. Why didn’t the Tamils pressurize the ltte to negotiate a genuine settlement during the ceasefire? They couldn’t have got a better opportunity. The ltte gave the govt no option by killing so many of its agents. Even at this critical juncture the tigers are not thinking about the people they claim to solely represent!

Did he know history? SLA captured and stayed there till 1998. but he mislead us. and betrayed his own nation and own soldiers who die daily for their cause irrespective it is right or wrong but only for their leaders.
LTTE had the best ever chance for political solution under ranil but they didnt go for it and they never will.
There is no other choice but total annihilation of LTTE. Then only we can look forward for political solution.

But after the election he threw away the agreement made between LTTE political office and MR advice body and did the same thing what LTTE had did.

The ltte did not start breaking the CFA after MR came. They started before that which resulted in the Sinhala people believing that negotiating with the ltte is impossible. They also prevented the Tamils from voting everywhere (including some parts f Colombo) at the last presidential election. The ltte believed MR would be Sinhala extremist which would suit their extremist agenda. So they planned to recommence hostilities. Don’t forget their attempt to capture Jaffna during the ceasefire.
The heroes day speech was for the benefir of the international community. How can u negotiate with people who are not genuine?

It was MR & co made the agreement with LTTE to boycot the election. LTTE already prepared to boycot the election based on their own philosophy, but MR gave millions to boycot which chanalled through various projects.

Don't worry, guys... From what I hear in the USA (highly reliable source), the Indian govt issued the 'big' public statement just to appease the people and especially politicians in Tamil Nadu. The Indian govt is said to be behind the SL govt 100%. Karunanidhi and Co. will scream at the top of their lungs to get more votes next year. It is just political propaganda it seems, and apparently they (karunanidhi etc) don't give two hoots about SL Tamils!

the supposed indian dressing down of our man in delhi over the current military campagne is for domestic consumption. in other words, a mere show to pacify the southern indians.
but behind the scenes, i am sure the indian and sri lankan governments have a mutual understanding that it was still business as usual despite the controversial summoning of the sri lankan high commissioner.

Please do not justify denial of security by government.Defence Secretary submitted to courts that Gen.Perera has NO THREATS from LTTE--which is an utter lie(to deny him of security).
Deprived of govt security, Gen.Perera arranged for his own security with ex-officers, However this too was sabotaged by Govt by arresting the personnel involved saying they are plotting to kill the president.
This crime will haunt the consiencce of those responsible for ever...

Action sought against pro-LTTE outfits

PUDUCHERRY: Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy on Thursday demanded action against the organisations that supported the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Replying to queries on reports relating to certain political parties and organisations extending support to the LTTE “under the guise of opposing genocide of Tamils in the island,” he told reporters here that the State governments including Tamil Nadu, should take action against those individuals and organisations for backing the banned outfit.
He also flayed the general secretary of the MDMK , Vaiko, for “openly expressing views in favour of the LTTE.”
He also referred to the steps taken by the Centre through diplomatic channels to stop the killing of Tamils by the armed forces. , besides stressing the need to ensure safety and security of the Tamil population in the island.
