After holding the LTTE's 1st FDL for the last 3 days the SLA today officially declared it had taken control of the 1st Muhamalai and Kilali LTTE FDL. The SLA increased skirmished into the LTTE FDL for the last three to five days gaging and gradually working away at the LTTE's resistance until finally holding onto the newly captured 800m to 1km area by today morning.
Casualties to both sides are high with the SLA suffering around 300 casualties, including those killed and the walking wounded. Casualties to the LTTE could be less. The narrow corridor of terrain makes it difficult for either side to advance, but the objective of this latest venture into LTTE areas seems to be to force the Tigers concentrated defenses away from the 58 Division, which is now 6km west of Paranthan.

All that Susantha says on that page is that Dharmapala supported industrialization in Sri Lanka- he was not some itinerant mystic, but he had some idea that economic progress was key to Sinhala upliftment. That is not the same as being anti-colonial.
Further down on the page (and on 246), Susantha talks about the role of Buddhist schools playing a role in developing nationalist leaders. To a certain extent he is correct, but again I have to point out that these leaders were not so nationalistic to conduct a full "Quit Lanka" movement that would require dedication and effort.
In general I liked Susantha's book because he trashes anthropologists who tend to write what's going through their own heads rather than the real world. However, he had a tendency to gloss over things in his book. For example, he was vague about the "left-wing" trade union leaders who had been educated at Buddhist schools. I think he was referring to A.E. Goonesinghe's efforts in the 1920s, but not the LSSP leaders which replaced his movement in the 1930s and were far more anti-colonial and "nationalist."

Humiliating LTTE
Much propaganda mileage could be derived in the south from the spectacle of raising the flag in Kilinochchi on Maaveerar day.
t was also another way of humiliating the LTTE and playing to the Sinhala chauvinist gallery.
With these objectives in mind the armed forces have been tasked with the goal of seizing Kilinochchi by November 27th.
Plans are afoot to hoist the lion flag in Kilinochchi at the same time that LTTE leader Prabakharan lights the sacrificial flame on Great heroes day.
Already posters are being prepared to announce the capture of Kilinochchi on November 27th.
Two Operations
In order to achieve this objective by Nov 27th the armed forces have launched two major operations on Sunday November 23rd.
In one operation soldiers of 58 division attempted to proceed along the axis of Paranthan – Poonagary road and move South – east towards Kilinochchi.
The road is bi-sected at a place called Nalloor (not to be confused with Nallur in Jaffna) by the Kudamurutti river that falls into the Kilaly lagoon.
Areas to the west of Kudamurutti are called Poonagary Nalloor and those to the east are called Paranthan Nalloor.
The road also forks in this area with one branch going south –eastwards to Karadipokku junction close to Kilinochchi town and the main road going east reaching Paranthan at the 161st milepost on the A – 9.
Paranthan lies four miles to the north of Kilinochchi.
Task Force One.
The LTTE offered stiff resistance to the 58 division attempting to reach Karadipokku junction in the Uruthirapuram – Kunchuparanthan area.

I am a Sinhalese and yet to find a Tamil who has outperformed me online. I went through the Sri Lankan university system where the top notch Gold Medal graduates consistently had been Sinhalese and I can name 5 of the easily.
Telling people Tamil outperform Sinhalese (When cheating is not allowed and everyone is given the same access) is a bunch of crap.
The only area Tamils have outperformed Sinhalese is in the area of Terrorism. Sinhalese Terrorists are not well known around the world while Tamils Terrorists have been well recognized with the international ban.
All the human beings on this planet are equally smarter. Studies have shown that Sinhalese have performed equally if not better in the international arena. If you go through the publications of American Journals of Medicine, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, then you will see that your silly opinion is based on information from your grand father.
