A secret plan to extract Prabhakaran and Poddu Ammaan from the battlezone has/is in operation. A team of influential Tamil expatriates had arrived in Chennai to coordinate this mission, which is being organized by the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) of India.
The plan was/is to extract Prabhakaran and Poddu Ammaan and bring them to safety and to coordinate disruptive attacks in Sri Lanka from abroad. It is DefenceWire's understanding that the plan was hatched under pressure from Tamil Nadu and to hold Sri Lanka to ransom over the long-run. An unspecified sum of money has been put together as the budget for this operation and two Ukrainian mercenary pilots have also been recruited, sources told DefenceWire.
The second part of the plot is to get the remaining top-ranking LTTE leaders to surrender to the ICRC, which, according to international norms, prevents any interference from the Army. This was to ensure the lives of these second and third-rung leaders will be safe and they would receive amnesty since no specific charges can be leveled against them by the AG's Department. After receiving amnesty, the men and women cannot be touched and they would be free to coordinate their plans in Sri Lanka.
There is now fresh doubt as to whether Prabhakaran and Poddu have already been extracted. The Navy said last week it had fired at a plane that had come and landed at Puthukudiirippu and left. The Air Force refused this claim. The SLAF has recently been having some problem detecting and intercepting small low-flying aircrafts.
There is also some doubt as to whether an escape was made via the sea. 10 Tigers were extracted on the 18th of this month by an LTTE Sea Tiger Boat from Pulmoddai, indicating some gaps in the Navy's own defenses.

First things first LTTE does not have a huge support base,as it tries to project through its media.Whatever amount of sympathy and support it had were evaporated along with the 22 lives lost on 21-05-1991.Period.
Whatever happens now in TN,is the ploy of a handful of politicians who do it for THE obvious reasons.Especially people like Thol.Thirumalavan,who has suddenly become too affluent itself explains the reality.None of the parties could kindle\captur the imagination of the people of Tamilnadu with their so called agitations against THE genocide.Thats exactly the reason why the Fast onto death got over in 4 days.

I’m lost about requiring this so called ‘political solution’ to Tamils. From my thinking:
1. everybody (Tamil, Sinhalese, Muslims etc) in Sri Lanka should have equal rights; nothing more nothing less.
2. That means equal opportunity to get an education, employment, government services and more importantly the freedom to live anywhere in the country.
The first question is then to see what’s NOT available to Tamils that is currently available to ONLY Sinhalese. What are those? What are they really? What are we depriving tamils of ? Let’s list them. LTTE supporters, what do you have on the list?
It is essential that we draw a line in the sand and start moving forward. What LTTE is about is building up an empire and not giving that up. They are not really for the betterment of Tamils. Now they do not want to go back to democratic ways of doing things as to do so, they have to be prepared to give up the many ‘privileges’ they have (such as breaking banks when they do not have money, collect millions of diaspora money and not be accountable for rit etc). They do not want to give the luxurious lifestyle that they currently enjoy.
Where else can they kill their opponents and not face the country’s law and order? Only in Eelam.

I am convinced that the best place for an EELAM is NORWAY.
1. Norwegians love the LTTE
2. LTTE already has paid off officials in the Norwegian Govt; Remember Tamilgate? They can build on that base.
3. Norway has a very small population, so if the SL Diaspora Tamils all move there, they can easily outnumber and displace the Norwegians, and create a Tamil-only Eelam.
4. Norway has a very small Army; so it can be very easily destabilized and occupied.
5. Norwegians are already completely brainwashed on the need for "peaceful negotiations" towards a "peaceful solution" even while their country is being occupied and they are being displaced from their hearths and homes. Having been taught the lesson LTTE in Sri Lanka, they won't give the Norwegians enough time to mount a counterattack in time.
6. We Sri Lankans can return the favor the Norwegians did us, by assisting the LTTE in the Eelamization process. We are now very experienced and knowledgeable in the required INGO activities and can even provide the necessary earthmoving equipment, should talks run into difficulties and earthbund building needs arise!
To my mind, beyond a shadow of doubt, NORWAY is the best place for this Eelam.

Next thing is Tamil's would never support LTTE again. PIRBHA PONNA & POTTU PONNA is not on their twenties to wage a long term war again. They are too old now and in their last years before reach hell.
Things will be completely different once development projects have reach north and east. Southern people have a to do politically to keep tamil people in the right track. Also SL Gov should mastered another plan to highlight new, very new, attractive leadership from N & E. Even people in south go to wise vote when selecting their rulers.

A lot of civilians have died in the North. Their race is immaterial. What matters is that they are human beings. Even brainwashed LTTE boys and girls are also humans.
Therefore I humbly ask you not to celebrate military victories. What is there to celebrate? Death, destruction, fear, displacement? Nothing to celebrate.
Tamil people are very badly affected by this war and they carry a deep scar with them. Lighting crackers, street celebrations and other forms of cheap celebrations add to their hurt.
Lets celebrate when peace comes back to our beloved motherland. That can happen only when a dignified power sharing deal is brokered between the Sinhala speaking people and Tamil speaking people.
This problem has entered its 51 year this year and all should support the solution that was torn by Hon Bandaranike under pressure from extremist elements.
Everyone will join in celebrations when that happens.
I lost my relatives, property, profession and the country in the ill fated July, so I don't think there is any Tamil out there who has better entitlement to talk about the rights of Tamils in Sri Lanka. The agony of fear for life, lost of loved ones, being robbed all positions and mostly becoming a helpless pray were all part of the total experience I was going through. Vultures were only few, where as my life was saved by many good hearted Sinhalese out there. If the propositions were opposite, I would not be here to write this as a matter of fact. I have many dozens of Sinhala friends, whom are better than some of my own kind, and I am not selfish or shortsighted to judge all by few maniacs.
At the same time, Sinhalese should not treat every Tamil as an enemy or more specifically LTTE. Even for those who worshiped LTTE should be given a fair chance to realize the bad choice and to correct themselves.
What LTTE have done to Sinhalese over the last 3 decades out numbers all the crime few of them have done in July or in the history. In a way, I regret LTTE being Tamil organization, which has done mass murders and international crime in the name of Tamils.

Colombo's war crimes turn to rape of the fleeing - Jaffna MP

Civilians who have been caught by the Sri Lanka Army recently in Vadamaraadchi East in Jaffna and from Murasumoaddai in Ki'linochchi district, who are confined to the 'detention camps' run by the Sri Lankan military, have complained to their relatives that the Sri Lankan soldiers have taken several women into their custody and were sexually abusing them, said Jaffna district parliamentarian S. Gajendran on Wednesday. Those who continue to justify and abet the on going war against Tamils and those who directly or indirectly advocate surrender of Tamil civilians to their adversaries are a party to war crimes, he further said.

Stating that the relatives of victims in Sri Lankan custody in Jaffna, Vavuniyaa and Mannaar have come with shocking stories of sexual violence meted out to their relatives and family members, the parliamentarian said there is a volume of allegations and a long history of sexual abuse by the Sri Lankan military, which consists of 99% ethnic Sinhalese.
Due to the long culture of impunity enjoyed by the Sinhala dominated military, the families being held under a continuous threat to their lives and honour in the Sri Lankan custody are unable to come out and complain the most inhumane crime of war that is taking place silently, charged the Jaffna district parliamentarian of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).
It is an inherent culture in the Sinhala army to use the weapon of rape that is very sensitive to Tamil mind, in the long history of the ethnic war to subjugate Tamils.
It is not only rape, but the open exhibition of Sinhala chauvinism’s insatiable desire to see Tamils naked, whether man, woman, dead or alive that needs attention of the civilized world, the MP commented.
A leading Muslim industrialist of a South Asian country, after seeing evidence of vulgarity committed by Sri Lankan soldiers remarked that had that happened in an Arab country, the repercussions would have been terrible.
Sinhala sociologists who pester their ‘Tamil friends’ in knowing the nuances of the Tamil culture behind the ‘suicide war’ would do better in undertaking research on this Sinhala mentality, for it is much easier for them to get access to ‘original sources’ and the world would be benefited in understanding the nuances behind the nature of the ethnic majoritarianism in the island, the MP said further.
It is not without knowing the results of what they were doing, India and some world powers abetted Colombo’s war. Their lip-service calls to Colombo government to observe human rights were never honoured or responded positively.
But they continued with military, monetary and moral support and now they expect the Tamil civilians to abandon their fighters and surrender to their predators.

From the retired and relaxing US President Bush to Indian bureaucrat Shiv Shankar Menon, who found ‘cordial understanding’ with the Colombo government, there is a long list that bears responsibility to the war crimes in the island.
It is the atrocities on human dignity that were committed during the time of the IPKF that made many a Tamil heart to boil at the very mention of the name India, and the Congress Establishment is incapable of learning anything even today.
Humanity is yet to invent an international legal mechanism to indict real war criminals.
The Sri Lankan armed forces have been accused for decades for using systematic rape and murder of Tamil women. It is an openly acknowledged fact, from UN missions to rights watchdogs such as the Amnesty International, that impunity continues to reign as rape is used as a weapon of war in Sri Lanka.
Only a few of the victims were allowed re-join their families, and the victims cannot speak out the truth due to the cultural taboo and the military harassment at the hands of the enemy nation to whom they have become subjugated.
Two of the cases that have received judicial and media focus in Sri Lankan were that of Krishanthy (1996) and Koneswary (1997).
After the Sri Lankan armed forces captured the Jaffna Peninsula from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in early 1996 over 600 young people disappeared. One of the rape victims, Krishanthy Kumarasamy was murderd after being stopped at an SLA sentry point at Kaitadi, Jaffna district, on 7 September 1996. Her mother, a 16 year old brother and their neighbour went missing on the same day after they made inquiries at the sentry point. Their bodies were later found in shallow graves in Kaithady.
Soon after the "Riviresa Operation", Jaffna was under the command of Brig. Sri Lal Weerasuriya, under whom two others Brigadiers, Janaka Perera and Karunatilake, were handling security in prescribed areas. The Chemmani area was under the command of the then Brigadier Janaka Perera (Maj. Gen. Janaka Perera who was assassinated last year), who was one of the responsible as he was Operational Commander for the Jaffna peninsula and Joint Chief of Operations in 1996. Those with command authority over atrocities against Tamil civilians were decorated and promoted and the SL military was continue to be viewed an agent of repression rather than as a protector of the citizens of the island.
Mrs. Murugesapillai Koneswary, a thirty five year old mother of three who was gang raped and murdered in front of her family allegedly by a group of Policemen from the Central Camp Police station on 21 August 1997. Koneswary was killed, according to her family, when the Policemen exploded a grenade on her lower abdomen to destroy evidence of the rape. None of the perpetrators of the woman's rape and murder have been brought to book so far.
In 2007, 108 Sri Lankan soldiers who were serving in the U.N. peacekeeping force in Haiti were repatriated after they were found convicted in sexual exploitation and sexual abuse of minors in Haiti. The United Nations had asked Colombo to prosecute the soldiers ‘to the fullest extent of the law’.
In 2001, the year before a ceasefire ended the fighting, Amnesty International said it “has noted a marked rise in allegations of rape by [Sri Lankan] police, army and navy personnel.”
“Reports of rape in custody concern children as young as 14,” Amnesty also said.
Amnesty said “to [our] knowledge, not a single member of the Sri Lankan security forces has been brought to trial in connection to incidents of rape in custody although one successful prosecution has been brought in a case where the victim of rape was also murdered.”
Also in 2001, Amnesty wrote to then Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga, “urging her to take action to stop rape by security forces and bring perpetrators to justice” in response to reports of rape by the Sri Lankan forces in Mannaar, Batticaloa, Negombo and Jaffna.
“To date, no response has been received to the appeal,” Amnesty later said in a special report titled “Sri Lanka: Rape in Custody” which was published in January 2002, just as the Norwegian brokered Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) came into being.
In a statement to the UN in 1998, the World Organisation against Torture observed: “Sri Lankan soldiers have raped both women and young girls on a massive scale, and often with impunity, since reporting often leads to reprisals against the victims and their families.”
“The consistent policy of rape and violence against Tamil women that we have documented for many years is a fundamental military tactic of the Sri Lankan forces,” International Educational Development, an NGO, also told the UN that year.
Human rights NGOs have frequently protested the impunity Sri Lankan soldiers enjoy regarding rapes and other abuses.
Whoever advocated that Tamils are safe if they surrendered with SLA, look what happened to those women.
These animals raped and killed the surrendered Tamil women.
Tamils never surrender with these animals. Death is good as surrendering with these animals.

Poor statesmanship. You should never never keep people speculating on something this long. If you look at the way Obama has been managing the news about his new appointments, he always leak them out to the public before the announcement. That behavior had been consistent.

Everything on earth goes through ups and downs. Since, the world is going through the down turn and we Sri Lanka at the rock bottom, there will be an up turn soon. So if we do things right in the coming up turn, I strongly believe that Sri Lanka will really flourish.
We really need to capitalize on our location and be the hub of the region. It's really possible.

I’ve been watching with interest the debate in this forum of whether BBC is pro-LTTE or otherwise – the responses to which eventually seemed to conclude that BBC in fact IS - and I beg to differ.
Note there are two elements to BBC that matters to us in reporting Sri Lankan conflict: “BBC News” and “BBC Sinhala Service”.
Whether “BBC Sinhala service”, which edits “Sandeshaya” is pro-LTTE or not is anyone’s guess. Its editors are Sri Lankans – I have no idea whether they are Sinhalese or Tamil – it is irrelevant. Just read through BBC Sinhala articles and news items published in the BBC News website http://www.bbc.co.uk/sinhala/ – most of them contain cringeworthy spelling and grammar mistakes, and the third-class, unjournalistic way they are written would put the most of Sri Lankans to shame. I have no idea why BBC would have those jokers on its payroll.
Now take a look at other news items published by BBC News – as opposed to the Sinhala Service – written by its international correspondents. All I can say is that they present a balanced perspective of the conflict at any point – which is exactly one would expect from a reputed news agency. They would never report one-sided stories in BBC News. Whether their reporting favours us is another matter – can’t help it - we can only expect them to report both sides to the story, and guess what, we sometimes do not like when both sides of the coin are reported, especially if it puts us in a bad light. We surely cannot expect them to publish one-sided stories like Tamilnet or defence.lk. If we cannot make ourselves listen – or read – a neutral viewpoint then it is something wrong with us – not them.

If you're in BBC, best thing is to try and understand situation in SL, and use your head on credibility of news.

The trial of three Canadians accused of travelling to New York in 2006 to buy anti-aircraft missiles and assault rifles for the Tamil Tigers guerrillas ended on Tuesday following two more guilty pleas.
Sahilal Sabaratnam, 29, and Thiruthanikan Thanigasalam, 41, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to support a foreign terrorist group and conspiracy to buy missiles.
Their co-accused, Sathajhan Sarachandran, 29, had already pleaded guilty on Monday.
They each face a minimum sentence of 25 years with a maximum of life imprisonment after admitting they were part of a Canadian-based arms procurement cell of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels, also known as the LTTE.
"With these convictions we have sent a clear message that the LTTE and its supporters cannot use the United States as a source of supply for deadly weapons and technology, and that all terrorists who attempt to do so will be met with the full resources of law enforcement," U.S. Attorney Benton Campbell said.
The case was the product of an undercover investigation, called Project O-Needle, conducted jointly by the FBI and the RCMP. The investigation began when the suspects made contact with a man they thought was a U.S. arms dealer but who was actually a confidential police informant.
The FBI launched an undercover sting operation that caught the defendants on tape negotiating to purchase 10 Russian SA-18 missiles and 500 AK-47 assault rifles for US$900,000.
The cell was working under the direction of Pottu Aman, the intelligence and procurement chief of the Tamil Tigers and right-hand man to guerrilla boss Velupillai Prabhakaran, the U.S. Attorney's office said in a statement.
U.S. officials said each of the men had distinct roles in the procurement group. Sabaratnam, a former Carleton University commerce student, was considered the "financial guy."
He was involved in talks over payment for the weapons, stressing the money would have to be deposited into an active account. "If there is no activity in the account and you throw in a million dollars, that is going to raise a red flag," he said in a monitored conversation. "They will freeze the accounts on both sides."
Prior to his arrest, Sabaratnam served as the communications director of the Canadian Tamil Congress in 2005, but the group's current spokesman, David Poopilapillai, said the organization had since been revamped. "We don't condone any unlawful activity," he said.
Thanigasalam, considered a technical expert, studied applied science at the University of Toronto. The FBI said he discussed buying missiles that could shoot down Kfir fighter jets and said he wanted to buy American or Russian assault rifles because the Chinese AK-47s currently used by the Tigers were "garbage."
Sarachandran, who played a logistical role, is a former University of Windsor computer science student and had served as national president of the Canadian Tamil Students Association.
Three other Canadians arrested in Ontario around the same time on similar charges are undergoing extradition proceedings to determine whether they should be sent to New York to stand trial.
The Tamil Tigers are separatist rebels fighting for independence for Sri Lanka's ethnic Tamil minority.
Providing material support to the Tigers is a violation of Canadian and U.S. anti-terrorism laws.
Once a potent force in South Asia, the rebels have suffered major setbacks in recent weeks and now appear on the verge of defeat. Government troops chased them from their last stronghold on the weekend, but there are concerns for the roughly 250,000 civilians trapped in the war zone.
The International Committee of the Red Cross called on both sides yesterday to allow civilians to flee the combat zone and safeguard humanitarian aid workers from shelling and looting.
"People are being caught in the crossfire, hospitals and ambulances have been hit by shelling and several aid workers have been injured while evacuating the wounded," said Jacques de Maio, ICRC head of operations for South Asia.
About 20 demonstrators briefly occupied the Sri Lankan consulate in Toronto yesterday until they were evicted by police.
Consul General Bandula Jayasekara said the demonstrators pushed their way into the consulate at about 10:15 a.m. and were photographing and videotaping his staff.
Ajanthan Kanapathipillai, a Sri Lankan-born car factory employee, said he took part in the protest to draw attention to the hundreds of civilians dying in the war.
"Why are innocent Tamils being killed?" he asked. "If this isn't a genocide, what else is it?"
