We have received credible information on the arrest of two individuals, one a middle aged man traveling on a non-Sri Lankan passport at an undisclosed location in Bangkok in a joint stint launched by Thai and Sri Lankan authorities. The travel documents and said identity confirms with an alias of LTTE operative Shanmugam Kumaran Tharmalingham.
The man was carrying travel documents both under his own birth name and under other aliases at the time of arrest. A group of Sri Lankan officials is expected to fly the said two individuals to Sri Lanka shortly. Please await further information as it is made available.

I have seen on few articles, India taking credit. The interesting thing is, if they are so good, how come that they are unable to solve their biggest problem, the Kashmir issue for such a long time.

Everyone has the technical capability, India, America Russia or Pakistan. But they lack a Sarath Fonseka and Gotabaya. I didn't mean to take down other individuals but these two characters have been truly outsanding in the whole process.
Most those countries are passing various stages of the SL war against terror before the duo. Like corruption, administrations providing cover, need for military R&D, lack of backbone, lack of willingness, mismanagement, old tactics of warfare. List is endless.
I do not outplay India's claim of their support to SL recently. I'm sure they gave behind screen support for us. Much higher than MI17. But they have been outplayed by nations like Pak, China etc. India is our jealous bro so everything from them comes with a rotten spirit, also they had to play a drama for TN which they did well. However I don't feel anti-Indian. For every line they say, we should read in between.

Patichcha Samuppada is not sequential and it explains the conventional reality while the Thatha, THE REALITY, is the NIRVANA. Thus Buddha is called THTHAGATHA, the one who got the THATHA.

What puzzles me most is his perfect conviction of an Aryan/Dravidien divide of Jambudvipa. It was a Brit colonial ploy to grab the power in India – Brits presented themselves as the real Aryans while the dominant classes in India were presented as half-breeds. The unmixed lower classes were promised redemption from the half breeds which was readily accepted by the so called Dravidians of Tamil Nadu etc who became the faithful servitors of the Raj.

I got a laugh out of the book story you posted there.
The Indians have a long history of getting involved in other people's conflicts, extending even to the Congo where they, under the UN flag played proxy to the USSR-Cuba interests. None of their contemporary combat ventures have resulted in success, excpet for the elimination of the Khalistiani movement in late 70's/early 80's.
Getting their soldiers to Sri Lanka was an unparalleled disaster for them. And even since then, other than for chasing after expensive toys that have not accomplished anything so far, they are way behind in combat readiness. That was proven comprehensively by the group of teenage ningas who tore Mumbai apart for 3 days and finally were vanquished only due to extended sleep depreviation.
Sri Lanka won the war for only one reason; we brought a level of commitment which the whole world under-estimated.
Of course success has many fathers, and India will try to show our success as theirs'. The truth is that our boys are years ahead in tactical prowess, compared to India.

After nine months of political grandstanding and a high-profile trial of the lone, surviving gunman from last year's terrorist assault on this city, India's security gaps remain so wide that counterterrorism experts and high-ranking police officials fear the country is still vulnerable to a similar attack.
India's police and armed forces have yet to receive the promised boost in manpower and modernized equipment needed to stave off another strike, security experts say. Of particular concern are the persistent lapses in monitoring India's coast, which should have been the first line of defense when the attackers sailed here from the Pakistani port city of Karachi and then killed more than 170 people.
With extremist violence growing in Afghanistan and Pakistan, India's ability to prevent attacks through intelligence gathering and defensive measures has become more urgent than ever, say security experts and diplomats. The Obama administration sees India as an ally in containing the spread of Islamist militancy in South Asia, and the issue is one of the central sources of tension in India's relations with its neighbor, Pakistan.
The November attack exposed India's inability to protect its financial capital from 10 young, well-trained gunmen who brought the city to a standstill for three days by taking hundreds of hostages in two luxury hotels and a Jewish center. The outrage many Indians felt then has since shifted from the government's security failures to the surviving gunman, Ajmal Amir Kasab. Kasab is on trial, and the 21-year-old could be sentenced to death by hanging.

"The real issue is whether the attack could happen again. And yes, of course it could," said Ajai Sahni, executive director of the Institute for Conflict Management. "There's been no substantial changes in security since the attacks, just more speeches. The gaps are huge. Our national bird is the peacock. But it should be the ostrich, because we are burying our heads in the sand."
One of the biggest gaps is technological, security experts say. The gunmen who came ashore were equipped with assault rifles, Global Positioning System navigators, BlackBerry phones loaded with switchable SIM cards, Google Earth maps and VoIP applications to pinpoint their targets and talk to their Pakistani handlers under the radar of conventional surveillance. By contrast, the first police officers they encountered were armed with World War II-era bolt-action rifles. According to a confidential police report, most police officers had fewer than five rounds of ammunition and few of them had access to working cellphones.
Still, some terrorism experts say the real key to stopping similar attacks is ramping up security along the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean coast. Unlike its heavily guarded land borders, India's coastal waters are sparsely monitored, with fewer than 100 boats and 45 aircraft for about 4,700 miles of shoreline.
"Do the math. It's frightening," said Uday Bhaskar, director of the National Maritime Foundation, a New Delhi-based think tank. "With terrorists using technology, the whole ballgame has changed on sea and land. India is way behind."
The expense of acquiring better technology is only part of the problem, he said. Finding enough tech-savvy police officers and intelligence agents is a big hurdle in India, especially now that most potential recruits -- including those with degrees in engineering or information technology -- are snapped up by the country's lucrative outsourcing industry.

Since the Mumbai attacks, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has vowed to overhaul the country's intelligence and police forces and upgrade their weapons and training. On Monday, he told the country's chief ministers at an internal security meeting in New Delhi, the capital, that cross-border terrorism was still a "pervasive threat." He said he had received "credible information" about militant groups in neighboring Pakistan planning more attacks on Indian soil.
"We need to be prepared for encountering more sophisticated technologies and enhanced capabilities. We also need to guard our sea frontier as vigilantly as our land border," Singh said.
India's defense spending is expected to surge by 25 percent this year, to $29 billion, with some of that earmarked for weapons upgrades. India is creating a federal investigations unit similar to the FBI as well as four regional hubs for the country's top commando unit, the National Security Guard. The New Delhi-based NSG was criticized for its slow response to the Mumbai attacks: It took the commandos at least eight hours to find a flight to Mumbai, and two hours in heavy traffic to get from Mumbai's airport to the besieged hotels. It is working closely with a 10-member team from the FBI, which is investigating the attacks. Six Americans were killed during the siege.
At the security meeting, Home Minister P. Chidambaram told the governors of India's 28 states that they have grown lax on security since the November attacks and should begin filling the 150,000 vacancies in police departments nationwide. "There are inadequate training facilities for intelligence gathering and intelligence analysis," Chidambaram said, according to a transcript of the meeting.
His office did not respond to repeated requests by fax and telephone for an interview.
Vikram Sood, a retired chief of India's intelligence service, said in an interview that street-level intelligence across India has grown so weak that most police have little knowledge of goings on in the country's increasingly transient and teeming urban centers. The police did not even know that a Jewish center was in the Nariman House, one of the sites taken over by the gunmen, Sood said.
"The beat constable system has completely eroded in India," said Sood, who is now vice president of the Center for International Relations at the Observer Research Foundation, an independent think tank. "India is one of the most under-policed countries in the world. We really need on-the-ground intelligence."

He also said more interagency cooperation is needed.
"Mumbai was a defining moment when for 60 hours we were watching this unfold and nobody seemed to know who was in charge," he said. If there was information that a similar attack was imminent, "there still won't be enough boats or manpower to stop it."
The lack of quality policing is only getting worse as India's economy and public transportation systems grow, said Meenakshi Ganguly, a researcher at Human Rights Watch, which released a recent report detailing India's police deficiencies. India has roughly one police officer for every 1,000 people, less than half the U.S. average. Many are underpaid, overworked and under-trained, according to Ganguly and other watchdog groups that monitor India's police.
"The truth is everyone was caught unaware," said B.N. Raut, a director and the second in command of Mumbai's 56,000-strong paid civilian auxiliary forces. "At least now we are talking about these things. Maybe in memory of those who died we should be doing more than just talking."
Inside the city's main train station, which was attacked by Kasab and an accomplice, security remains lax. Most visitors pass through metal detectors amid a crush of bodies, and backpacks and purses are rarely checked.
"It's pretty useless. We have new security guards at the entrance, but you see them doing crosswords," said Manoj Khan, a manager at a coffee shop that was attacked.
He said he was unable to eat for days after the attacks. "And then," he said, "everything returned to normal."

The allegation by Sri Lankan Minister for Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services, Abdul Risath Bathiyutheen, that LTTE funded Rajnikanth's films has once again turned the deco lights on funding of films. The minister reportedly told Asian Tribune, "The money was not directly sent. Millions of US dollars were given to a London-based Tamilian. He was asked to produce Tamil films in Chennai with top stars like Rajnikanth," (in Kuselar and during the initial days of shooting of Robot, which later changed hands and was also renamed Enthiran,) he claimed and said "the aging super star received the blood money." The minister did not say how much money was paid to Rajni. But merely said he was paid "lavishly."
Viewed in the context of present LTTE head Selvarasa Pathmanathan remaining in Sri Lankan custody, the allegation gains much significance. Has Pathmanathan blurted out anything about Tamil film funding before his Sri Lankan interrogators is the doubt many have. The "London-based Tamilian" is seen as a reference to London Karunas as the producer was called, who was with Ayngaran International, but parted ways with the production company a couple of years ago. While Kuselan' was produced by K Balachander, Aswani Dutt and G P Vijayakumar in Tamil and Telugu. Robot' was bought by Sun Films after Ayngaran wanted to move out of its production. The movie was renamed as Enthiran.' Rajnikanth is currently shooting for the film.
Source of funding for movies has been a concern for police for long, primarily because much of it's black money and the sources remain opaque. But, unlike Bollywood, where the D-Company not only funds movies, but also dictates terms as to who should be the hero and heroine, which movies they should act in and at what salary they should agree for doing the shoot, in Tamil Nadu, no such underworld or terrorist link has been established so far. The slain LTTE leader V Prabhakaran, has, however, inspired vary many movie-makers and heroes in Tamil Nadu; so much so that close to a dozen Tamil movies have been made depicting his arms struggle and lethal striking capability.
A senior police official, on condition of anonymity, said, "Though we have been hearing stories of LTTE funding some organisations, individuals, film producers and directors in Tamil Nadu for long, we have not come across even a single case with corroborative evidence to prove this allegation. Also, if at all any producer has received funds from the LTTE, such funding has not led to any security risk in our state. Further, we have also not come across instances of money being routed from the film industry into terrorist network."
However, the LTTE, through its frontal organizations, has made huge inroads in controlling distribution of many Tamil films and their DVD rights in some overseas markets. "The overseas Tamil diaspora is a too huge a market for any film producer to ignore. As per our information, the frontal organisations of the LTTE have also been actively involved during the shooting of several movies abroad," said the official.
The only clue common man has about the financing channels in the film industry is from the reel life. Kamal Haasan's Mahanadhi,' released in 1994, was about a rich villager who got duped by unscrupulous elements in the fringes of Kollywood. In real life, actor Ajith was reportedly held captive by a Madurai-based financier, and although his office confirmed that there were some issues that needed sorting out, Ajith himself never came on record about the issue; nor did he seek police mediation and that was over two years ago.

At that time, film historian Film News' Anandhan had said that during earlier days, producers were traditionally rich farmers and merchants who pumped all their earnings into film industry. "People like me came into the industry pledging all the family wealth," said K R G, president, South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce (SIFCC). "It may be opaque, but it is all above board if one looks at the accounts. Non-traditional funding is hardly 2 % in the industry," he added.
However, given the fact that films did not enjoy industry' status till recently, the image of a corporate entity is a new role Kollywood is yet to adapt to. Producers avail of non-traditional finances, since bank loans are not accessible for all. In the early nineties, GV Films was one of the few corporate entities, and although many others, such as Adlabs forayed into film making, their presence is minimal in Tamil films. Kollywood averages 110 films a year, and a major chunk is produced not by corporate entities, but by individual producers.
"Despite the challenges, the industry flourished in the past because actors such as Jai Shankar, Muthuraman and Sivaji' Ganesan bailed out producers (in case of flops) by giving their dates and even money for shooting one more film with the same producer," said K R G. COLOMBO: Following the successful military operations against the dreaded Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in May, Sri Lanka has offered training in counter-insurgency military operations
to several countries including India, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya, said.
BBC quoted Gen Jayasuriya saying that Sri Lanka had offered, through diplomatic channels, training to India, the United States, Bangladesh and the Philippines.
“Pakistan has already asked if it could send its military cadets to train in counter- insurgency operations. We’ll give a favourable response,” he said.
But the Pakistanis would not be trained in the newly captured areas in north Sri Lanka but in the south east of the country, he added. Sri Lanka’s south east has a strong Muslim presence.
Express learns that small groups of eight soldiers had played a decisive role in the operations against the LTTE.
These groups had replicated the techniques and tactics of the insurgents to beat them in their own game.
In an innovative step, the Sri Lankan Army began to train officers and other ranks together, so that there could be better rapport and communication between the leaders and the led in the battlefield.
He said that the Sri Lankan military envisaged specialist courses lasting up to six weeks, directed towards small groups.

India played a critical, albeit covert, role in the success of Sri Lanka's war against the Tamil Tigers, with the Indian Navy providing vital intelligence in locating and destroying at least a dozen LTTE rogue vessels laden with arms, says the first such detailed account of the operation.
India's covert support to Sri Lanka in the war against the LTTE assumed many forms, ranging from back-channel talks and a tacit endorsement of Colombo's destroy-LTTE mission to supply of military hardware and sharing of real-time intelligence, says Nitin A. Gokhale in his book "Sri Lanka - From War to Peace" (Har-Anand Publications).
New Delhi helped Colombo in myriad ways despite its public hands-off posture and denial of offensive weapons to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eeelam (LTTE) due to domestic political compulsions, contends Gokhale.
The ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government in New Delhi was dependent upon the DMK party from Tamil Nadu, perceived to be sympathetic to the LTTE, for its survival in parliament.
"Publicly, India maintained that it would not give Sri Lanka any offensive weapons. Yet, in early 2006 India quietly gifted five Mi-17 helicopters to the Sri Lankan Air Force," Gokhale writes. "The only Indian condition was: these helicopters would fly under Sri Lankan Air Force colours. New Delhi clearly did not want to annoy UPA's Tamil Nadu allies like the DMK unnecessarily," he says.
The author singles out the Indian Navy for special praise. The Indian Coast Guard gifted a Sukanya Class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) to the Sri Lankan Navy in 2002, which played a major role in several daring missions launched by the Sri Lankan Air Force to rescue the Army's Deep Penetration Units when they were surrounded by LTTE's counter-infiltration units.
The OPVs also helped when injured soldiers had to be airlifted from deep inside LTTE-held territory.
The author quotes Sri Lanka's Navy Chief Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda to underline the Indian Navy's contribution in locating and destroying at least 10 'floating warehouses' owned and used by the LTTE for storing arms, ammunition and even armoured personnel carriers.
According to Indian and Sri Lankan Navy sources quoted by the author in his book, well-coordinated operations by the two navies between 2006 and 2009 actually broke the backbone of the LTTE's Sea Tigers.

Tamil film industry rubbishes Lankan claim

The Tamil film industry has sharply criticised Sri Lankan Minister for Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Abdul Rishad Bathiudeen’s statement claiming Rajinikanth’s movies received funding indirectly from the LTTE.
Rishad had mentioned, in an interview to Asian Tribune, that a lot of money of the LTTE had benefited Rajinikanth, PMK leader Vaiko and S Ramadoss. He claimed that money from the LTTE was being diverted to a London-based Tamilian to make films with the superstar.
Condemning the remark, Rama Narayanan, president, Tamil Nadu Producers’ Council, said: “There’s no need for LTTE to fund a Rajinikanth film indirectly through anyone. And Rajinikanth is in no necessity to take up a project financed this way. There are a lot of producers here waiting to do a film with him and he will not resort to a project like this. Whoever has claimed it should have done so for cheap publicity, because they know anything about Rajinikanth makes it to the headlines,” he says.
Another producer, on conditions of anonymity, said there was no basis to the claims made, calling them “random, uncalled for” remarks.
Director-producer Ameer, known as a sympathiser of the Eelam Tigers, said these remarks were made only to defame the LTTE, which the people empathised with. “His statement has come without proof. It is only a political statement made with the intention of portraying the Tigers in bad light. This is akin to Harshad Mehta who once infamously said he had bribed former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao for financial favours. By stating this, they have tried to divert our attention,” said the director.
Actor Rajinikanth, who has not worked for a film produced by a London producer so far, chose not to respond to the statement. The actor is currently in Chennai shooting for his flick, Endhiran. His public relations officer said the actor, who was informed of this, did not wish to make any comment.
The closest the superstar came to working with a Sri Lankan producer was for his current film. Endhiran was originally supposed to be produced by Ayngaran International, owned by a Sri Lankan Tamil from London, C Karunamurthy. A leading film distribution network, apart from being a high-budget production house, Ayngaran, however, later backed out of the project. Ayngaran had earlier widely distributed Rajini’s previous blockbuster Sivaji The Boss, in the international market, apart from holding the international rights to his earlier films Chandramukhi and Padayappa.
I hope to God that China will not underestimate India and try to destabilize India as advocated in the Article below. China is susceptible to this kind of breakup also, having many restive ethnic minorities within its borders. Any such action will only unleash a holocaust in which THERE WILL BE NO VICTORS.

A huge country, ultimately scattering into fragments; India is going to be the USSR of tomorrow. One of the official think-tanks of China has advised the Chinese hi-ups to settle old scores with India by breaking up the world’s ‘Biggest Democracy’ into 26 parts. Beijing should encourage Bangladesh to invite ethnic Indian Bengalis to abandon Indian nationality and work towards a united Bengali state. It has also been advised to use India’s hostile neighbors as well as the restive elements among the Assamese, Kashmiris and Tamils. These elements should be encouraged to fight hard for independent statehood.
Recently in the second week of August, an article was published in China, with the title ‘’If China takes a little action, the so-called Great Indian Federation can be broken up’.
This article also propagated the same thought as presented by the official think-tanks of China. The said article was originally in Chinese language and was later reproduced in several other strategic and military web sites of the country and by all means, targets the domestic audience. According to the media reports most of the websites which published this article belong to China. One of these sites is ‘www.chinaiiss.org ‘which is the new edition of the China International Institute for Strategic Studies; a website which is purely considered to be the mouth-piece of the government of China.
The writer of the article, Zhan Lue has suggested to the Chinese authorities that to split India, China can bring into its fold countries like Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan, support ULFA in attaining its goal for Assam’s independence, back aspirations of Indian nationalities like the Tamils and Nagas, encourage Bangladesh to give a push to the independence of West Bengal and lastly recover the 90,000 sq km territory in southern Tibet. The article says; If India today relies on any thing for unity, it is the Hindu religion. The partition of the country was based on religion. Today nation states are the main current in the world. India could only be termed now as a ‘Hindu religious state. Hinduism is a decadent religion as it allows caste exploitation and is unhelpful to the country’s modernization. The Indian government is in a dilemma with regard to eradication of the caste system as it realizes that the process to do away with castes may shake the foundation of the consciousness of the Indian nation. Zhan Lue is of the view that there exist so many ‘local centres’ in several provinces of India and in the presence of such local characteristics, the ’so-called’ Indian nation cannot be considered as one having existed in history.
In the light of the above cited article and the recommendations of the official think tanks, the Chinese government might be thinking of joining hands with different nationalities in India like the Assamese, Tamils, and Kashmiris and support them in establishing independent nation-States of their own, out of India. In particular, the United Liberation Front of Asom in Assam ULFA can be helped by China so that Assam, a territory neighboring China, realizes its national independence.

The two countries share a long border, sectioned into three stretches by Nepal and Bhutan which follows the Himalayan Mountains between Burma and Bangladesh. A number of disputed regions lie along this border. The conflict between the countries reached its climax in 1953 when India encroached northward and pushed its borderline to the McMahon Line and occupied 90,000 square kms of Chinese territories. At western sector, in 1959, India voiced its claim to the Aksai Chin areas, counted 33,000 s.kms, of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China. In April 1960, Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai went to New Delhi to hold talks with Indian Prime Minister Nehru; no agreements were reached due to India’s insistence on its unreasonable stand. The ensuing meetings between the officials of the two countries also produced no results. As a result of it The Sino-Indian War started in June, 1962. This war is also known as the Sino-Indian Border Conflict. China had two major claims on what India deems its own territory. One claim, in the western sector, is on Aksai Chin in the northeastern section of Ladakh District in Jammu and Kashmir. The other claim is in the eastern sector over a region included in the British-designated North-East Frontier Agency, the disputed part of which India renamed Arunachal Pradesh. These two major claims were the actual factors behind the war. In the fight over these areas, the well-trained and well-armed troops of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army overpowered the ill-equipped Indian troops, who had not been properly acclimatized to fighting at high altitudes.
In the last May, the Indo-China relations reached a point of no-return when India blamed that China is interfering in Nepal’s internal affairs and causing political upheaval there. The Times of India reported on May 9:2009, “While India was inviting popular opprobrium in Nepal trying to prevent Maoist Prime Minister Prachanda from sacking the army chief, China at the same time sent messages to Prachanda pledging support for doing just the opposite.” Condemning the report Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said, “The report is sheer unfounded rumor. The Chinese government always adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. China, as a friendly neighbor of Nepal, sincerely hoped all parties in Nepal would work together for peace, political stability and economic development.”
The recently published article in China and the recommendations of the official think-tank of China have given birth to strange frightful feelings not only among the Indian public and politicians but also among the Indian Armed Forces. Commenting on the reports that China has been advised to break-up India, the Navy chief of India, Admiral Sureesh Mehta has said, “India does not have the power to match China’s resources in terms of military. China is likely to be more assertive on its claims”. Less than a month ago, Headlines Today had highlighted a disturbing prophesy by a noted Indian analyst Bharat Verma that China would mount a blistering attack on India before 2012.The point to be pondered over is the credibility of the said article and the authenticity of the suggestion given to the Chinese government. This article and the advice; both must not be taken lightly. Ignoring them will prove to be costly for India. If China succeeds in awakening the consciousness of nationalities in India, the world’s Biggest Democracy is sure to meet an end like that of USSR.

Ananda, I have noticed this idea hanging around for some time. I personally believe it is a made up by some external party.
All what it shows is that a powerful entity backs the proposed idea, surely outside of China and India. Someone finds it very interesting if India breaks or if China and India engage in war. And that is a concern, although both ideas will not work, someone may give a $$ driven effort and many will suffer. Even a tiny prick in India or China will costs millions of lives.
India is bound rather stronger than before. India is truly a cesspit of world considering their treatment to other ppl [castism, classism, racism, foreign policy, RAW etc] but they have only been better over past few years. India is becoming the third largest economy and its predicted line would not be so distanced from the down going US economy growth line. These facts not only inspire everyone to remain intact, but also add a certain Rs Rs value to remain in tact.
Finally on predicted Chinese attack in India. This crap originated from the mythical prediction of end of world in 2012. Some ppl think that it WILL SURELY happen. And they are somewhat backed by the marketing campaigns of popular movie 2012. Since many THINK that 2012-doomsday WILL happen they are reasoning it with 101 methods. And Indo-China war is a hot one. Rest I leave it for J K Rowling and co.
I strongly believe that neo-liberal neo-socialist foreign officials in most Western countries today [Clinton, Krouchner, Solheim, Miliband, Bob O'Blake they all have some socialist or extreme liberal background] are behind this childish campaign of wishful thinking. I know India is internally weak because of its many communal divisions. But, these divisions are evident to all because of India's open democratic system which washes its dirty linen in public, wjereas China's problems are carefully hidden from view in the proverbial Middle Kingdom.
Among China's weaknesses now beginning to emerge, are its restive minority communities located in the vast thinly-populated expanses of Western China. These peoples have not shared the economic growth of Eastern China and its Han ethnic group, with whom they do not identify because of ethnic and religious differences. Some are Mongols, many are Turkmen, others Tibetan, and still others identify themselves as Moslems, and non-Chinese speakers.
As China becomes more free-market oriented and driven by trade with the rest of the world, Chinese society is going to open up, government control is going to weaken, and regional differences and divisions are going to grow. While India's problems of poverty, illiteracy, caste and class are well known, China also has very poor and backward, albeit more literate, communities. Also, China's environmental problems are monumental .. an order of magnitude worse than India's.
Both China and India are desperately trying to preserve the peace, and are racing to grow their economies. Any military conflict between them is going to destroy the chance they have to join the first world that is their goal. China, with its more disciplined work force is ahead in that race, on the face of it, but its social problems have not been aired or addressed, and are simmering under the surface waiting to blow up. The Chinese leaders know this, and are moving very carefully to loosen the reins keeping pace with economic growth so that people will see the progress and more willing to remain patient and contain their rising expectations
As I see it, India poses no threat to China, but China does pose a threat to India. The latter situation is exacerbated by India's own follies in its dealings with its neighbors.
Yet, China should not underestimate the intrinsic strength of the democratic system of India .. India has faced and solved many problems that China has yet to face in its gradual move towards the ultimate goal of a vibrant free-market system.
China that had issued the 553-rd last warning to the capitalist-roaders of the United States 30 years ago, now proclaims "to be rich is glorious" with equal enthusiasm! Surely, the Chinese leaders who made that about-face on capitalism, are too smart to give up the glorious vision of rolling in limitless wealth by getting into an internecine war with India?

"Demala" is the word used in sinhala to describe the word "thamizh" used in tamil. "Damila" is the word used in pali to describe the word "thamizh" used in tamil. "Tamil" is the word used in english to describe the word "thamizh" used in tamil. If it is correct to use "ilangkei" in tamil to say "lanka" there cannot be any thing wrong in using sinhala versions in sinhala text. This is same as using "amerikawa" for america, "ingreesi" for english and you can find a lot of such usage in both in sinhala and tamil and in other languages too. As I know its only CBK and Mongal prohibited the usage of the word "demala" in sinhala texts.

40k has been resettled already in vavuniya district.

Piribaran arrest unravels Tiger operandi
Two major arrests made in early this month by the Terrorist Investigation Division have unraveled the LTTE’s modest operandi.
The two arrests, one of a senior police official, Superintendent of Police Lakshman Coory and the other of the former personal chef named Siddeek of the current Chief of Defence Staff Sarath Fonseka have now compelled the security agencies on an overhaul on its strategy in the VIP security. Concerns are further compounded with the renewed fears that at least some of the top echelons of security services have been infiltrated.
The arrest and subsequent revelations of SP Lakshman Cooray is discussed in other pages of this paper.
A veteran Tiger operative identified in his nom de gurrae, Piribaran arrested last month divulged the shocking details of treason, which saw the arrest of two men, both having access to sensitive details.
Piribaran, a handler of LTTE suicide bombers had operated directly under the feared Inteligence Wing Leader , Shivashankar Shanmugalingam alias Pottu Amman.
The circumstances of Piribaran’s arrest are not clear. However, what is clear is his arrest had led to a series of arrests and unraveled some of the great mysteries which confronted the investigators. The story is telling.
Siddeek, a native of Jaffna, who relocated to Akurana after the LTTE forced Muslims out of Jaffna has been a soldier of Sri Lanka National Guard since 1995. He had been posted in Jaffna during the early 2000 where General Sarath Fonseka (then Major General) was the Security Forces Commander, Jaffna.
Siddeek, who had earlier served as the personal chef of Major General Sarath Munasinge and was reputed for his culinary skills was hired by General Fonseka’s staff as his personal chef. But, what they did not know was that Siddeek was already a Tiger operative.
An Intelligence operative of the LTTE had befriended Siddeek during the short sourjoun of peace process, when he frequented a mosque in Kankasanthurai for Friday Muslim prayers.
During the course of period, Gen Fonseka was appointed Volunteer Force Commander and later the Commander of Army. Siddeek moved from Jaffna to Colombo to serve as the personal chef of the commander of army. Siddeek cooked for the commander of army, yet, he had a different mission.
October 2005, while he was riding a motor bike in Seeduwa, he was injured in an accident and was admitted to the Army Hospital.
Piribaran who had, by then, approached Siddeek visited him in military hospital. During his first visit, he obtained a visitors pass from Siddeek, which was sent to Pottu Amman who embossed two passes in the same format and sent them to Piribaran.
Piribaran visited the Military Hospital on the pretext of seeing Siddeek on four occasions during the next two months with the aid of the forged visitors pass. On his visit to the Military Hospital, he monitored the entourage of Gen Fonseka and, allegedly decided it was the best place to target the Army Chief.
During his final visit, Piribaran was accompanied by the would be suicide bomber Manula Devi Kanakapathipillai alias Durga.

Manjula Devi born in 1983 is a native of Anuradhapura and later moved to Kilinichchi.
Schooled in Sinhalese medium, she could speak fluent Sinhalese.
A Black Tiger trained for a VIP mission, she fetched a ride to Colombo with a Shanmugalingam Suriya Kumara, a Lorry driver who frequented Kilinochchi transporting dry fish from Wanni to Colombo.
Sooriya Kumara, a native of Chunnakulam, Jaffna is married to a Sinhalese woman, Asha Dilrukshi. Both lived in a house in Rambukkana. They had a four year old child. Running between Jaffna and Colombo, Suriya Kumara had been charged by the LTTE’s police over a traffic violation . He was compelled to attend the hearing of an “LTTE court”. Visiting Kilinochchi frequently for court hearing, he was approached by an intelligence cadre of the LTTE, assigned to the entry-exit point in Puliyankulam, who offered to help him out of his trouble in return of his service to the LTTE’s intelligence wing. Suriya Kumar, reportedly, accepted the offer and was introduced to an LTTE intelligence wing leader identified in his nom de gurrae as Vinothan.
Later, Vinothan offered to sell him dry fish at a cheaper than market price, thereby cultivating a relationship. While travelling frequently to Wanni, Suriya Kumara made an extra income through his new business deal.
Some months later, Vinothan asked a favour. He requested Suriya Kumar to house a woman identified as his sister, who he said is going to Colombo to go abroad. It was Manjula Devi.
Suriya Kumara brought the would be suicide bomber to Colombo and provided accommodation at his house in Rambukkana. On her request, he bribed the local Grama Sevaka to forge a National Identity Card.
Manjula Devi visited Colombo on the pretext of applying for visa and kept in touch with her handler, Piribaran.
Meanwhile, the LTTE financed Suriya Kumara to rent a house in Weliweriya. Suriya Kumara family moved to the new house along with Manjula Devi.
On April 24, two days before the attack, Manjula Devi met Piribaran in Colombo and both visited the Army Hospital using the forged visitors pass. They rehearsed the attack and Manjula Devi returned to Weliweriya on 25th.

On her last night, she didn’t eat, claiming a headache. On the morning of the fateful day, she skipped the breakfast, drank a cup of milk and left for Colombo.
Ayesha, Suriya Kumar’s wife clueless of the conspiracy, however noticed Manjula Devi, usually a cheerful woman was different on that day. Manjula Devi used to cajole four year old child of Ayesha and Suruya Kumar every time before she leaves the house to go to Colombo. On her last journey to Colombo, Manjula Devi took a bus from Weliweriya to Gampaha, from where she boarded a train bound to Colombo. In Colombo, she took a bus to Wellawatta where she met Piribaran, who helped her don the suicide jacket.
He accompanied her to the Army Headquarters in a hired three-wheeler. She entered the Army Headquarters using the forged visitors pass, while Piribaran headed to the Galle Face Green and waited there awaiting the outcome.
The foursome, Piribaran, Manjula devi, Siddeek and Suriya Kumar used a mobile connection which restricted access to only four of them.
Siddeek was tasked to call Manjula Devi on this line to tip off her of the arrival of Commander’s entourage. He called her exactly at 1.31 pm, when the vehicles were parked. At 1.36, Manjula Devi received another call informing her of the departure of the vehicles.
Bystanders saw, a woman clad in a yellow Shalwar dress under a frangipani tree. With the phone glued to her ear, she swirled to the path of the moving vehicles. In a matter of seconds, she blew her up killing her self and several others. Gen Fonseka survived the attack, but was seriously injured.
Soon after the blast, Piribaran informed Pottu Amman of the news and threw away the mobile phone and the SIM card, thereby erasing any foot prints of the attack. Suriya Kumar threw away the SIM card, but he continued to use the mobile phone.
CID traced back to the mobile phone and arrested Suriya Kumara, who divulged his role of the attack, but did not have much to say about the other collaborators. Piribaran went underground and continued with his macabre career, yet away from the public radar. He continued to work with Siddeek and had found new associates, including a prized one SP Lakshman Cooray.
It took four years for the mysteries of the April 26 bombing to unravel. It was an fortuitous arrest of Piribaran by the sleuths of the Terrorist Investigation Division, that exposed the LTTE’s sleeper cell.
Siddeek and Lakshman Cooray were arrested on the information provided by Piribaran.
Siddeek is alleged to have committed suicide in his prison cell, while Lakshman Cooray is spilling beans on his role in number of successful and abortive terror attacks on VIPs.

- Immediately govt has teh problem of the remaining separatist to encounter. TNA tops teh list.
- The best action order will be: CLeanup, SEttlement, COlonization, DEvolution, and INtegration
- Notably DE happening after CO is teh best.
- CO is not something I supported two months ago. But seeing the direction where the Wanni public are being pushed, now I strongly support CO.

STATUS of IDP and R2P
The ‘divide and rule policy’ of the British colonial administration in Sri Lanka covertly took advantage of the country’s ethnic profile to appoint better educated Tamils in key government positions to act as a buffer against possible sedition by the Sinhalese majority. With the declaration of independence emerged extremist Sinhalese Buddhist nationalism as a response to such discriminatory policy which served as an effective political platform for power hungry Sinhalese politicians. Ever since, the Tamil community has been gradually victimized, marginalized, repressed and regularly subjected to extreme violence by sinhala extremists through pogroms, sometimes state sanctioned, which conveniently served to divert attention from economic mismanagement. Tamil youth who were generally identified as mild mannered and submissive slowly evolved into the ferocious Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) demanding self rule and independence. Thus commenced twenty five years of armed conflict resulting in massive destruction to the economy and its social fabric. The conflict was interspersed with attempts at dialogue between the protagonists with both accusing each of other of insincerity and deception in achieving a consensus.
No doubt, the armed forces defeat of the LTTE was achieved mainly on account of applying man power and firepower far in excess of required capacity such as six to seven times the combat force of the enemy together with lethal quantities of high tech weapons, ammunition as well as cutting edge spy technology which in addition, was far beyond the country’s affordability. Months of repeated heavy aerial bombardment of enemy territory resulted in extreme destruction to the ecology and heavy human casualties. Alleged violation of international conventions on warfare through aerial bombing, heavy fire power, particularly in safe zones demarcated for civilians, and non recognition of voluntary surrender by enemy during the last stages of combat has resulted in alleged war crimes that the state is unable to defend in a transparent and accountable manner due to implicating evidence via pre and post war recorded satellite imagery currently available. Hence the state has taken cover under a confrontational stance of defending itself as a sovereign and independent state with no necessity for accountability to the international community.
It is now acknowledged by the United Nations that the global community has‘Right to Protect’ the well being of vulnerable and marginalized populations victimized by autocratic regimes. However, the concept is condemned by the GOSL and other autocratic regimes as a violation of national sovereignty. Consequently, the GOSL has been compelled to align itself with authoritarian regimes which are unacceptable to the democratic world due to their unfavourable human rights records and undemocratic governance. Due to the mutual support of many such regimes in international forums such as the UN, the GOSL has temporarily survived international judicial processes being filed against them for alleged war crimes. The regime’s continued confrontational stance against the democratic west has earned their disfavour by way of delayed development and rehabilitation assistance and threat of cancellation of preferential trade terms as penalty for not abiding by internationally accepted standards of democratic governance. The GOSL has not attempted at positive engagement with democratic pre- conflict allies essential for the nation’s economic survival. The probable reason being that they fear being subject to international demands for war crimes investigations and a rapid political solution to the Tamil minority concerns as well as resettlement of IDP’s which they feel may not be politically expedient.

Due to the GOSL’s difficulty in obtaining commercial borrowings internationally, they have rescinded on their stance not to seek assistance from multilateral lending organizations resulting in the obtaining of an IMF facility of USD 2.5 Billion disbursed in tranches subject to strict conditionality which the regime has not publicized as it will compromise their populist claim of refusing to be subject to intimidation by the superpowers. There is serious doubt whether the regime can comply with the imposed conditionality in obtaining the entire loan due to political expediency taking precedence over national priorities.
The major concern at present is the adverse treatment meted out to IDP’s who are all Tamils and therefore suspect of being aligned with the LTTE. The IDP camps are virtual open air prisons controlled by the armed forces as inmates are held against their will and not permitted contact with outsiders. The camps are overcrowded by about twice their capacity with temporary shelters made of plastic material which is flimsy and unsuited for tropical weather and long term use. Temporary sewage systems constructed with UN support are breaking down resulting in extreme pollution, contamination and threat of epidemics for which the government has found in the UN a convenient scapegoat.
The GOSL has not yet made public the names of the approximately 280,000 IDP’s. Donors, both international and local, are providing humanitarian assistance with little or now say in camp management or contact with inmates. It is common knowledge that many IDP’s have escaped by bribing the security forces indicative of insidious corruption. The public have no right to information on the status and management of camps. A serious shortage of supplies, food, services and facilities for inmates exist but is deliberately downplayed by the government as a face saving tactic. Consequently, donations are requested by the authorities only via informal channels of communication. There is no formal public notification of deaths or health status of inmates. Allegedly; several LTTE suspects who are taken out of camps for interrogation often cannot be traced thereafter by their families. Access to camps by donors, aid workers, family and friends is highly monitored and media is strictly out of bounds. All the above factors are indicative of covert operations.
Under the circumstances, it is imperative that the United Nations exercises its ‘Right to Protect’ such a vulnerable population already suffering from extreme physical and emotional trauma. It would be to the detriment of the credibility and effectiveness of the UN and the democratic world if they continue to turn a blind eye to the true situation of the IDP’s in Sri Lanka.

I have been watching the Multipolar dance for some time. I am not really worried about some egoistic naked dances Rana and his avatars continue. But I found the following issue very important to note.
Peter first started praising SF in an abnormal manner. Peter is a known terrorist or a group who may be using a common ID. Immediately after that Fonseka2010 [ID = 18437290059825726588] started a bogus campaign which looked serious especially in the possibility that some donkey politician may use it for popularity. Lanka News Web published this as a news. Note that Fonseka2010 had held previous IDs such as ArmyLK/Buddha/nangige hu**tha/Lion Flu/පරන්ගි. I am quite certain that this is a terrorist and he has some direct link with Peter & co.

The Court today gave the CID clearance to further detain a suspect who had allegedly assisted two female aides of former LTTE ‘police’ chief Nadesan to escape from an IDP camp in Vavuniya and flee to India undetected. You're very right about teh driving force of Separatism, and that we need to bring diaspora to stop voluntarily in order to eliminate that threat.
But I don't think that colonization will still stop it. It may rule out the possibility of TE, but these f**kers didn't really fund the movement purely for TE. They did it more on revenge and colonization may even increase funding.
I'm forever thankful to diaspora that they never come to completely peaceful framework. It is primarily as anger and vengeance are the key driving force than the hope and inspiration for a separate land.
