The real Tamil Eelam as experienced by Tamils in LTTE areas

Pro-LTTE websites are running the LTTE's desperate propaganda campaign to the maximum. The most recent and blatant of lies was the so-called killing of 120 SLA and driving them back to a place some Tiger sites identified as 'Malayalapuram'. We received many emails and comments asking us about this so-called fight that took place west of Kilinochchi. These reports are completely false.

SLA lost 23 soldiers in the fight to capture a bund at Thirumurikandi. 12 bodies fell into the hands of the Tigers. 56 soldiers were injured. This was the most recent 'victory' the LTTE had scored in recent times. Despite this, they lost the bund and Thirumurikandi to the 57.

But the LTTE propaganda went into high gear. But the facts cannot be concealed for too long with lies. If 120 soldiers were killed the LTTE should have captured 30-40 bodies given the nature of the bund and terrain like in Muhamalai 2007-08. But they had pictures of only 10-12 soldiers.

LTTE even claimed reinforcements were brought from the East when in fact SLA platoons are being re-deployed to the East from other areas. In fact an entire Squadron of Commandos were sent to Trincomalee recently to counter LTTE insurgents and guerrillas.

A team of crack Commandos from this squadron recently attacked an LTTE hideout in the Kanjikudiaaru Jungle killing 5 LTTE cadres and injuring another 7. This hideout was 600m away from the STF camp in Kanjikudiaaru. The STF leadership had nothing to say about the incident as their incompetence was exposed yet again.

Meanwhile large numbers of civilians hiding inside jungles between LTTE areas and SLA forward operating areas has slowed the pace of the ongoing operations. 33 civilians, mostly youth, were discovered and returned to government areas today from northwest of Oddusudan.

The LTTE does not have enough manpower to search these jungles. The SLA too is encountering them in their operations. This has slowed their pace down and in mahy cases, limited the use of heavy firepower.

The youth who were discovered today were malnourished and had very bad bruises on their skin and also body odors from living inside the jungle for weeks. There, inside the Muthiyankaddu jungle for example, 500-600 civilians, mostly Tamil youth, are in hiding from the LTTE.

These civilians have escaped their homes and have fled from LTTE round-up operations to push them into IDP camps. These camps are now the LTTE's sole means of abducting and forcible recruiting men, women and children into its fighting units as SLA attacks claim the lives of 20-30 cadres a day from the organization.

As youths escape these settlements and camps, the Tigers have now started recruiting men and women in their forties. This is the state of Tamil Eelam today.

Themaraadchi residents flee shelling

Residents of Mirusuvil and Usan areas in Thenmaraadchi fled from their houses when shells fired by Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) targeting the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) bases in the said areas fell and exploded, Tuesday around 5:00 a.m, according to civil sources in the area. The shelling began following the Tuesday clashes between the SLA and the LTTE.

The shells fell and exploded in Mirusuvil, Usan and near St. Nicholas church in Usan causing the few families in the area to flee.

Most of the residents had already left their homes since clashes between SLA and LTTE intensified in recent times, the sources said.

The actual number of families or persons who fled Tuesday from shelling is not available to them, the officials said.

Artillery duel in Northern Front, SLA closes road to transport casualties in Jaffna

Clashes between Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) which began with an SLA offensive advance through Ki’aali Tuesday around 1:20 a.m continued through the day with artillery duels and gunfire exchanges, sources in Jaffna said. Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) helicopters were seen engaged in transporting casualties and injured soldiers while Kandy road and Palaali road were blocked several times during the day enabling ambulances to carry the dead and injured to Palaali SLA hospital. The SLA has suffered considerable loss of lives and injuries to many, sources close to SLA said.

Both sides kept up artillery barrage. The SLA directed Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) on LTTE territory. SLAF fighter jets too were engaged in bombing LTTE held areas while gunfire exchanges were heard from the area, Thenmaraadchi residents said.

The SLA attempt to penetrate and advance into LTTE held positions had not been successful, sources close to SLA said.

SLAF helicopters kept flying above Vallaive’li in Vadamaraadchi as well as along the coast of Jaffna lagoon and over other areas in Jaffna peninsula raising fear and anxiety among its residents.

STF commandos assault 4 sisters in Batticaloa

Special Task Force (STF) commandos assaulted four sisters heavily with batons and sticks Tuesday around 9:00 a.m when they launched a cordon and search around Village No. 40 in Batticaloa district, according to the residents of the village. The STF commandos had warned the sisters that their entire family will be killed if anyone attacked the STF.

The sisters injured in the assault are A. Kayalvili, 24, A. Rani, 26, A. Tharsini, 18 and A. Packiyavathi, 16, a student.

The STF commandos had forced all the residents of Village No. 40 to gather in a public place and subjected them to rigorous interrogation during which the above sisters were assaulted.

Families in Ka’luthaava’lai and Eruvil had been killed earlier while Vairamuthu Rajani, a 30-year-old woman, was assaulted, resulting in a broken arm, in November during a similar cordon and search.

Stepping up pressure on the Centre, the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu today said External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee should be sent immediately to Colombo as 'promised' by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to make all efforts to arrange for a ceasefire between the Sri Lankan Army and the LTTE.

A resolution adopted at the high-level committee meeting of the party, headed by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi here, said that Mukherjee should immediately visit Sri Lanka "to hold necessary talks and make all efforts" to convince Colombo for a ceasefire.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Karunanidhi said Union Shipping Minister and senior DMK leader T R Baalu would meet Mukherjee in Delhi to convey the view.

An all-party meeting under the leadership of Karunanidhi had met the Prime Minister on December 4 and discussed the Sri Lankan Tamils issue, where the latter had reportedly promised to depute Mukherjee to Sri Lanka.

LTTE have tried to attack the 58th Division defenses, by sea via Kilali Lagoon. They were beaten back. (Rupavahini confirmed this)

Looks like the LTTE was expecting an attack in the Kilali FDL. So they had there strength there. Unfortunately for them there had beed offensives targeting Paranthan and Kili in the mean time.

Looks like, After they repulsed the 53 Division offensive in Kilali they tried to land by sea to attack the 58th Division. Here, they were beaten.

Such a waste of human life!

I'm not a fan of MR GOSL (for that matter any SL politician as they have blundered the country senselessly)
However, as MR has taken the decision as President to eliminate this problem - He should get on with it and do it as quickly as possible without prolonging this war/conflict (call it what you want)
I'm sure you will all agree SL resources both human and monetary can be better utilised to develop the country and live in peace.

Tigers recover 8 SLA bodies, seize 18 weapons in Ki'laali fighting

Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) said Tuesday that they seized two Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launchers, one AK-LMG, fourteen T-56 assault rifles and a shoulder-fired rocket after repulsing an SLA-initiated offensive push that lasted for 9 hours from 1:20 a.m. Tuesday. The Tigers have earlier claimed that at least 40 SLA soldiers were killed and more than 120 sustained injuries. Information from Jaffna also indicates heavy casualties on SLA-side.

The SLA has admitted that 25 soldiers were killed, 10 soldiers were missing and around 160 soldiers sustained injuries in the fighting on Tuesday explaining that they made a 'tactical withdrawal' in Ki'laali.

Sources in Jaffna said that the main access roads, the Palaali road and the A9 Kandy Road were blocked several times by the SLA to transport military casualties.

If their had been gains in the Kilali front, it would have been highlighted by now and Only thing which is left for the LTTE is to talk about their gains in the Kilali front.

Defence.lk reports that there had been reinforcements towards Paranthan from EPS.

Air assaults at LTTE reinforcements: Boat confirmed destroyed- Kilaly

An LTTE attack craft was confirmed destroyed and many other boats damaged after air force MI-24 helicopter gunships made close-in-air combat assaults at an LTTE boat movement in the Kilaly lagoon, Tuesday (Dec 16) at around 6.10 p.m.

Identifying an LTTE boat movement with reinforcements towards Paranthan from the non-liberated Elephant Pass area, the MI-24 helicopters continued engaging the boats forcing terrorists to abandon the mission, Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said speaking to defence.lk.

The air assaults were launched in support of the advancing TF- 1 troops, he further said.

"Both sides are accused of routinely understating their own casualties while overstating those of the enemy.

Independent reporters are banned from going to the war zone, so confirmation of conflicting figures is impossible"

Both have been proved to be "stretching it" obviously to suit their agendas.

Army.lk - A FLOTILLA of LTTE boats taking reinforcements to the KILALY front where the Tiger terrorists suffered heavy losses were targeted by MI 24 fighter helicopters of the Sri Lank Air Force this evening (16) around 6.15 p.m. while they were sailing across the KILALY lagoon.

After the capture of Pooneryn on November 15, crossing Akkarayankulam bund on October 31, and capture of Mankulam on November 17, it is a month. Evidently since then, momentum of advance has been stalled due to adverse weather on a few days, and stiff LTTE resistance that had been progressively increasing. This would contradict repeated Sri Lankan assertion that the LTTE was on the run. If this is not so, what is holding up the troops?

Unknown said...

Ok source is good for tactical withdrawal.

This seems a possibility for an offensive and a very rare one whilse the LTTE has been tactically withdrawing for close to two years now. In fact now it should be called strategical withdrawal for LTTE.

Back to the point. It looks like SLA advanced, got a beating and then retreated to prvent more casualties. They have not lost their FDLs. They will advance again sooner or later. So this is not a LTTE style "strategical withdrawal".

SLA suffers third debacle in Ki'linochchi, 100 killed, 250 wounded - Puleedevan
[TamilNet, Tuesday, 16 December 2008, 16:51 GMT]
The Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) on Tuesday repulsed a major push by the Sri Lanka Army, killing at least 100 SLA soldiers and causing injuries to more than 250, said S. Puleedevan, the director of LTTE's Peace Secretariat, quoting Tiger commanders who were in charge of the Tiger defensive fronts in Ki'linochchi districts. "According to the emerging details, a multi-front push towards Ki'linochchi from Malayaa'lapuram, Kugnchupparanthan, Mu'rika'ndi and Pulikku'lam, was repulsed by the LTTE defensive formations that have seized weapons and recovered at least 10 corpses of the Sri Lanka Army," Mr. Puleedevan told TamilNet citing the military officials of the LTTE.

"This is the third debacle of the SLA in Ki'linochchi district within the past few weeks," Puleedvan added.

Heavy fighting raged from 5:00 a.m. till the evening when the move was thwarted.

Two AK-LMGs, one PK-LMG and six T-56 assault rifles were among the weapons seized by the Tigers so far in the clearing mission which was going on, he said.

The Tigers were making arrangements to hand over the 18 dead bodies, 10 from Ki'linochchi and 8 from Ki'laali, through the ICRC, Puleedevan said.

Infinity said...

The LTTE desperately today needed to move reinforcements by sea. They lost 5 km of their earth bund so their best defence is lost. Their very best fighters are getting killed very rapidly.

If the weather allows and the army makes a similar strong attack tomorrow from the captured earth bund will their fighters collapse like at Mallavi, Vidattalativu, Mankulam, and so many other places previously?

Regardless, the army is only getting stronger with new Task Forces arriving, the LTTE is sacrificing their elites, and the weather will be improving. Looks like this nightmare will over in a few months.

Jay,

I value your right of expression, especially in the lines of political situ in SL. But I'm bit confused about following.

However, as MR has taken the decision as President to eliminate this problem - He should get on with it and do it as quickly as possible without prolonging this war/conflict (call it what you want)

Mate, do you mean that MR should force our brave hearts right into tiger den and by whatever means get the bloody tigers eliminated? And you don't care how many will die?

In 2006 SLDF started from Mavil Aru. Successive piss[aka norwegian peace] crazed govts of CBK and RW had given hefty lot of areas as pussycat controlled by then. SLDF shrank that into ~20% and brought pussycats into total disarray, all in mere 2 years. Isn't this fast enough?

We are here worried about going too fast as it would make more casualties in SLDF. We all are bothered about death. Even pussycat deaths. But this is war. By stating a mantra that both parties spread love on each other won't change it. If one party gives up, other party will kill them and declare victorious. In these grounds we would like to see maximum death in pussycat side. It is sad for some as they are forced. I think they should rise against the genocide and suppression by pussycats and diaspora. Considering the mayhem their fore fathers and diaspora betrayers created, their best option is to rise against it one day.

Again you're entitled to state your opinion, but equally I have my right to get it further clarified.

Your cause for a separate state is weak, when that island is small for division of any type, besides most of you guys have abandoned your homeland for better pastures abroad claiming bogus refugee status.
Most of the Tamils now live in the majority areas in the South though your guys are unwilling to conduct a proper population census and to conceal the facts you claim that the people have moved from the West of Vanni to East and this lie will be exposed when the whole areas of the terrorist enclave is liberated.
This war is about ousting a bunch of terrorists who have not only exploiting it own Diaspora to make money but trying to establish a smugglers paradise, an unaccountable dictatorship in the island in disguise of a Tamil home land, thus hijacking a previously set up a Tamil racist dreamland concocted by your Vella tribe that enjoyed every privilege given generously by the Sinhala majority.
Besides the humble people now support the war effort to once and for all rid of this menace.
You guys are very powerful abroad financially yet as time passes this will diminish due to world disassociating themselves with terrorists and fund raisers and when the attention is rightfully focused on those politicians by appealing to it’s electorate then the help your lobby gets will be diminished, but to do that we must get our own house right in Sri Lanka to get the respect and attention of the IC.

Its obvious, the LTTP are now holding their last major cities,

Giranika (Kili), Mooladuva (Mulaithivu), Alimankada (EP), Puranthenna (Paranthan) and Oththanthudava (Oddusudan), once these are captured, the final stage of the battle would be to smoke them out of the jungle.

But as usual the LTTP will always stage a comeback (as claimed from Mahaweli Oya) Just WAIT AND SEE(TM)!
